To all that sent me a PM or SOPs to read: I have been super occupied over the past few weeks and I apologize for the slow response. I will start to respond within the next couple days to one week. Happy New Year everyone. |

I agree with tensazangetsu, remove UK from your list. Intergration and naturalization may also be tough in Asian countries, but it depends on you. North America and Europe seem to be the top options for this purpose. For North America, it is quicker and shorter to naturalize in Canada than USA. But then with a graduate degree in the sciences or engineering, getting permanent residency in the US becomes less difficult tho it still takes longer and is still not as straightforward as in Canada. Integration in these two countries is a piece of cake if you are open-minded. I live in the USA. I am not as intimately knowledgeable about Europe naturalization, but you would have to be willing to ultimately learn the language of the country you go to. Both Germany and The Netherlands are the top countries that come to mind. They both have English language MSc programs, and both are known to be generally friendly to immigrants. I recently researched these two countries for a family member looking to pursue an MSc. stillmaticOG: |
Defer the admission and wait for the updated letter. Don't make yourself appear as a desperate applicant. Untap143: |
Correlation does not imply causation. What do we say about an atheist who got her visa? Would you also ask the same question of "how did her atheism help her get the visa?" Anyways, you might wanna go ask your question in the "Religion" section, in order to not derail the thread. kwenu: |
Most of the world, except USA & Canada (and maybe another few countries). Google is your friend. kayswag726: |
Medical school in Canada is mostly similar to the USA. It is a second degree... i.e. get a BSc in a related area and then apply to medical school thereafter. Try some Google searches to learn more. kayswag726: |
Nice one. You are very correct about all you've written. Nigeria needs more information-driven critical thinkers like you! I am really impressed by your knowledge of all these even though you are still an undergraduate. tensazangetsu: |
Ok fair enough. I would surmise that you are in (or went to) a top-100 school in Asia? tensazangetsu: |
I strongly agree with the bolded. You are very correct that one of the greatest benefits of a top school is the contacts you make. The OP has his work cut out for him if he wants to go to a top-100 school with funding or a scholarship. It is indeed very possible, but would be less difficult if the OP didn't need funding. I would still recommend that the OP cast his net wide, but I see your point very clearly. tensazangetsu: |
While ranking is a good measure of research quality and institutional reputation and pedigree, it is often overrated. Most academic rankings are based on PhD research quality (and related funding & publications), NOT quality of teaching or education in general. There are amazing institutions all over the world that are not in the top-100 yet offer an amazing education that opens lots of doors. I speak from the experience of having attended two foreign universities within a wide range of the spectrum (one of which is top-100, while the other isn't.). OP: if you can get into a top-100 school, please do so by all means. But please by all means cast your net wide enough, don't limit yourself to top-100 schools. There are many excellent schools not in the top-100. tensazangetsu: |
Germany. Tuition is free. They offer lots of MSc programs in English. Yearly living expenses are approximately 8040 Euros or thereabouts. This thread is a gem: https://www.nairaland.com/2098236/general-german-visa-enquiries-part Also, use www.daad.de/en to search for schools that offer your course. Make sure to use filters to limit the search to English language programs with tuition less than 500 Euros. Canada (assuming you have a 2:1 CGPA and above, you can obtain research funding). See this post by a Nairalander: https://www.nairaland.com/2824928/how-secure-scholarship-admission-canadian#41366171 Critically read these posts on the Canada student visa thread: https://www.nairaland.com/2557850/travelling-canada-part-9/224#41342550 https://www.nairaland.com/2367106/travelling-canada-part-8/28#34729512 |
@sholay2011 Thanks bro. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to you as well. Did you find a solution to your Mastercard cash withdrawal issues? @emirate0, you are welcome. |
https://www.nairaland.com/2557850/travelling-canada-part-9 The appropriate thread is hyperlinked above. With a very well packaged application, the answer to your questions is a strong yes @ admission & funding. Just make sure you apply to at least four schools with excellent SOPs and excellent recommendation letters. If these docs are not excellent, your chances go down considerably. Also view the post here: https://www.nairaland.com/2557850/travelling-canada-part-9/224#41342550 And this one too: https://www.nairaland.com/2367106/travelling-canada-part-8/28#34729512 Read and follow this particular hyperlink like your life depends on it, in which case you will likely secure funding. emirate0: |
Lol. I agree with you except for the village part. Well, mathematically speaking though, nothing is 100% probable unless it has already happened (or unless it depends on an immutable physical law). Not to spoil the spirit of the thread, but someone came on this thread a few hundred pages ago about his sister's TRV denial after she received an approval mail (don't think she was a student applicant tho). But this is exceedingly rare. I also read somewhere else online of someone whose passport came back with a refusal letter after having submitted it after passport request. But you are right. It is approximately 100% (tho the purist in me sees it as around 99.9% lol) chance that a visa will be issued after pp request. obiscolly: |
99.9% or thereabouts, cos nothing is 100% probability until it actually happens. just001: |
VOs understand that you might have the opportunity to legally stay in Canada after finishing school. But what they want to know is that you would move back to Nigeria if you can't legally stay in Canada anymore. Since your current application is in the non-immigrant category, the burden of proof is on you to prove that you have plans on what to do in Nigeria when you finish school. Don't build castles in the sky about PR, one step at a time. The VO needs to know that you have plans for what to do in Naija after your Canada education; your goals of PR are a non-starter at this point. shodexy: |

You are very welcome bro. It was my pleasure! Graviton2: |
Excellent! Very glad you overcame the "insufficient funds" issues in your previous app. Go to Canada and succeed, bruv. Graviton2: |
Likewise bro! You were the first person to answer my questions on this thread, and I will always appreciate that. Your suggestion at the time inspired us to come up with a way to solve the insufficient funds issue my sister had with her app. So, tell us about your TRV app na? I know u are working on it in the background... . How far with that? Pls mention or PM me if you need to brainstorm about your app, I owe you one. Also, pls don't get too jaded about the TRV process...e go beta.hayqinsbFX: |
Use matrix.itasoftware.com to search for flights, and it will show you a map of fares over a large range of dates. Once you identify your preferred flight(s), go to said flight's airline website (or office) to buy the ticket. Egypt Air will only sell you a one-way ticket if you go to their office and they see your student visa. Omonjoe: |
Actually, my primary disagreement with your advice is/was based on what I thought would be more effective, not dishonesty. Dishonesty came to mind because in your subsequent comments you doubled down on your advice which in the first place I considered ineffective & unnecessary. Also, I am not a moral absolutist; I mean this in the sense that while I'm always for honesty/morality/ethics, I also understand that there are times of extreme duress when absolutist moral rules need to be flouted while one still stays ethical or as close to that line as possible. For example, when the Nazis were killing Jews it was necessary for a good German to lie to the government in order to protect the Jewish neighbor hiding inside his/her home; this was the ethical decision to make. I also understand that life and death or survivalist situations create ethical dilemmas that don't have simple answers. Nigeria is a survivalist place (causing many ethical dilemmas) but we are too quick to take unnecessary (and mostly dishonest) shortcuts as the first line of action; I disagree with this approach. Your advice encourages the applicant to take a seemingly easy shortcut, which will end up leading to having to fabricate more cover-up lies. It encourages the path of least resistance, which in this case is also not the best path. This is my main issue with your advise, the ethics part of it is secondary though also important. PS: my position is not based on religion, as I already have complex views on that lol. hayqinsbFX: |
My sister's app had a course mismatch, my brother was a very complex applicant. Both their SOPs were excellent and we submitted convincing documents; TRVs granted. Agreed, the VO may not read one's SOP. But the probability that they would read it is higher if it is well writren, concise, and engaging. Based on your advice, both my siblings should have lied about their education and work experience on their applications in order to appear as simple applicants. I strongly disagree with this position for several reasons. Bros, with all due respect you have been very valuable on this thread, but I think you should be wary of providing advice that is misleading, may encourage dishonesty, and is self-defeating. No offense intended. hayqinsbFX: |
Congrats @omonjoe! So glad it worked out for you. I'm glad I was able to play a positive role in your app's success. @berexio1, glad to hear about yours too! |
Lol, but the thing is that if I were he I would include the HND but would write an extraordinary SOP. My bro was a very complex applicant but we told the full truth and put together an application we thought would be convincing to a rational VO. @tundd80, there are many applicants on this thread with their TRV even tho they had a course mismatch. If your intentions are genuine, then you should write a thoroughly convincing SOP. Most times, these short cuts are self-defeating in the long run. hayqinsbFX: |
Congrats bro! berexio1: |
hayqinsbFX:Attn:tundd80 Good advice by HayqinsbFX except the bolded. Just know that if you leave out the HND it will definitely come back and bite you if in the future if you do make it to Canada and attempt to apply for an immigration benefit that requires proof of such education (e.g. permanent residency). Sometimes the path of least resistance is the worst. |
Lolz yep @ "highly indebted". Thankfully our economy is going so well now, and the USD is now very strong. The USD to CAD rate makes me a bit happy lol. But then the idea that some of these political candidates (i.e. Trump, Ted Cruz,...) have a noticeable number of supporters is scary for the economy and our world. Thankfully, the chance of any of these near-sociopathic candidates winning is low. akanni: |
Been done with school for a bit. I live in the country just south of the Canadian border lol. I found this thread a few months ago while trying to help two siblings get their TRV... they both got it and will be starting school in Ontario this winter. Thx for asking. I see you are in Alberta. akanni: |
Thank you. akanni: |
You are welcome. I can't guarantee that I'll respond especially if your question has already been answered within the last 50-100 pages. You will need to read the thread closely particularly as a complex applicant. But even if I would answer your question when I see it, don't bank on my being online when you ask your question.
