Blind, dogmatic, uninformed & uninsightful pessimism. elephantswimmin: elephantswimmin: |
You have posted the same message 11 times in the last 12 hours. That's a bit ridiculous. Anyways, here's the thread to answer your question: https://www.nairaland.com/2103860/canada-visit-tourist-visa-discussion Bass450: |
I don't know the answer. You might want to consider going to WAEC to have them issue a corrected one. I wouldn't submit it to CIC with that age discrepancy. If you can't get a corrected one from WAEC, then maybe you might wanna consider leaving it out and just submit another document from your secondary school (e.g. your school leaving certificate). You are welcome. I made a slight edit to the post. Do declare the food items and any cash you bring with you; if you don't you may be fined or worse. BidemiZoe: |

What is it about your SOP that would you like me to respond to? Please ask your question publicly. Unfortunately I can't respond to most PM requests anymore because I receive too many. Cheers. bayocanny: |

Nope. That's bad advice. Because your friend got his TRV doesn't mean it makes sense. Telling a VO that you want to gain experience in Canada after you finish school is outside the scope of a student visa. Point blank. Don't put the cart before the horse. dessy8: |
You are applying for a student visa, yet you are already talking about working there after your studies. This implies to the VO that you might not come back after your studies should you not be able to Canada any longer. Churkie: |
When i try to respond, the email bounces back. donsunnyjjayy: |
donsunnyjjayy:Just saying you'll return to Nigeria after the course is absolutely not sufficient. Anybody can say that, you need to be absolutely and unambiguously convincing. The burden of proof is on you to state what you would do in Nigeria in the aftermath of your program. Do you have goals or ambition on what you could do in Nigeria with your Canada training? What are the economic opportunities that you would gain with this Canada training? You need to apply for the visa with the assumption & mindset that you won't be getting PGWP or PR (which is actually a real possibility fyi). It's ok for plans in the future to change, everybody (including the VO, they are not stupid_) knows that. I previously explained this here. You also need to closely link your past educational trajectory and work experience with both your Canada training and your future ambitions. You need to be as specific as possible. PS: I received your PM and read the SOP. Make the changes I recommended above and send another version. Take your time and don't be in a hurry. |
Ok, good to know you read the thread closely. Responded to your PM request. PS: what is it about stating ways in which your skills would help Naija are you trying to wrap your head around? Pls respond on here so others can benefit. I will respond to your subsequent PMs only on issues that can't be addressed on here. Thx. donsunnyjjayy: |
Renew your passport before you leave Naija, and take both passports with you to the POE in which case the POE officer will give you a four-year study permit. If you don't renew your passport before you leave Naija however, then you'll put yourself in a bit of a pickle because the POE officer can only give you a study permit that lasts as long as your passport. This means that shortly after landing in Canada, you would have to rush to Ottawa to renew your Naija passport after which you would need to apply to CIC for a study permit extension; all this would make your life stressed out. This would cost you lots of extra money and time, depending on where in Canada your school is located. So my advice is to just jejely renew the passport asap before you leave Naija. bencheda: |
Congrats @BreadandBeans, did you have an undergraduate degree before this? Or will this be your first undergraduate degree? Just curious. Could you also list your profile so that other people would benefit? E.g. year & course of past qualification, what you've been doing since then, age, documents submitted, etc... |
I'm really busy these days and sorry I'm unable to scrutinize your SOP. Please read my old posts where I have provided advice on what an SOP should contain. I would help you but I just receive too many PM requests and SOP assistance requests that i am not physically able to help due to time constraints. Cheers & good luck. donsunnyjjayy: |
Please ask the question on the thread and I will try to respond if you mention me. afor01: |
vickyehi: Churkie:You are asking me to answer your question yet @vickyehi already told you to read my old posts for the answer. I'm sorry but you need to be willing to read the thread even if to a limited extent. Anyways, read from page 380 to page 383 of Part 8. |
moufpeas:Yes it will affect your chances. You will need to convince the VO why you are going for a business diploma when you already have a masters. The likelihood of getting the visa is quite low, unless you have an extraordinarily good reason why you are pursuing a program that is less than a bachelors. |
geobayo:Forget it. You would have to send your application to a CIC office outside Canada (likely the office in Los Angeles), and the application will NOT be less tedious than it would be if you did it in Lagos. The CIC office in L.A. receives many applications from temporary visitors in Canada trying to convert their visiting visa to student, and VOs as you might suspect are generally not positively disposed to it. You will need to have an extraordinarily compelling reason in order to convert your visiting visa to a student visa (especially since you are visiting from a country with lots of people who violate their visa conditions). FYI: The VO will compare the "purpose of visit" details from your visiting visa application to the details of your new student visa application; as a result, it is highly likely that the original "purpose of visit" of your initial visiting visa application will be seen as deceitful. I know of someone who tried what you are suggesting. The Los Angeles CIC office denied her three straight times. Her gcms notes showed that the VO looked at the details of her visiting visa application (made at the Lagos/Accra office) and concluded that she was deliberately deceitful given that a few months after she got into Canada she decided to try to switch to student status. The intent of her visiting visa application was to "visit" NOT to study. Also, keep in mind that once you are denied for trying to switch your visit visa to a student visa, your chances of getting the student visa again reduces drastically as you will now be suspected of being an applicant who does not respect the terms of his/her visit visa. My advice for you is that you should just visit Canada, then come back to Naija to do it. Getting a student visa would be easier once you've shown that you visited Canada before and came back on your own free will. cc: Dfavouredone hayqinsbFX |
Fortissimo:Thanks. Yes, it was me. Fortissimo:Ok. Send me a PM if you'd like. |
For undergraduates, the trend we have observed on this thread is that VOs prefer to see an account balance of at least N9m-N10m. But there are exceptions: @AverageNed in Part 9 got his TRV for undergraduate studies even though his father's account balance was about N3.25m or so, but his approval is unusual given that the statement balance was even less than his program's annual expenses. broxymall: |
Yea it is OK to have a sponsor even if you are above 30 years old. I know of such people with successful applicantions who yet had a sponsor. But, you need to write a really good SOP showing how passionate you are about your course of study, and what you have been doing in Naija since your previous educational study. I don't really have any advice on your remaining questions except that you should think like a VO, especially given that your precious app was denied on insufficient funds. Also, much has been written about insufficient funds on this thread and it would behoove you to read them. You can easily use Google to search for "insufficient funds" posts on this thread. charles316: |
Sometimes I just get so sad when I see Nigerians abusing each other over nothing, especially when one of the parties claims to be superior to the other. @Mizbaby, while I thought you started off correcting some initial misinformation by @eruditor, you singlehandedly let the argument degenerate into a rain of abuses and chest-thumping and then added misinformation of your own. @Bandeco mentioned that you have a NL history of brazenly abusing others on other threads and from reading your history this is so true. You might not be a bad person offline but you need to cool off on the pride. We all need to have humble hearts, which makes it easy to help and correct each other without the "I beta pass you" attitude. As an agnostic atheist it just blows me away how the same people on this thread who invoke God's help to get their TRV are some of the same people encouraging using fake documents or projecting extraordinary pride towards others. Oh well. |
Come on guys/gals, let's be civilized. Also, so much misinformation spewed on the MSc vs PGD debate. An MSc has more global weight than a PGD, but this doesn't mean that it is appropriate for every individual candidate. Candidates with aspirations in certain areas/industries may find that a PGD is more practical and valuable, while other candidates that want long-term flexibility in their field(s) of interest would find that an MSc is a better option for various reasons. Anyhow, no need to get tense and testy with each other over a supposedly rational debate. |
I don't think I can give you a satisfactory answer here because only you know why you want to declare your assets. Whatever the reason is, explain it in your SOP or in a short letter or in a financial spreadsheet listing your finances and assets. ikem01: |
@WenduIce Get your school to send you a softcopy. Print it and send to CIC (many people have done this, including my sister). Also, they *should* send the LOA in its typical format. Do not wait for your school to courier you an original. Get them to send you a softcopy and print then send to CIC. |
It isn't necessarily difficult. Applicants going for a PGD just need to justify to the VO why they made their course choice and why not a masters. Several applicants have on the first try obtained a TRV with a PGD admission. Having said that, the VO probably views a masters more favorably than a PGD, but even masters applicants get denied. My advice is to get a masters admission if you can, but if not then PGD is ok as long as you can credibly justify it to the VO. humbleosazee: |
Tell the VO why you want to study human resources management, and link it to your previous trajectory. This should not be too difficult to do, as you sure do have a reason why you studied accounting, and you ought to describe what you learned as a marketer, and as well explain why you now want to work in human resources. The VOs know that people switch fields, but they will only be persuaded if you write something that makes sense. odeloladf: |
There was a reason why you took the construction job. You probably learned a lot from it, and there were some good things you learned/gained from it (even if it wasn't the perfect job). Also, I suppose there's a good reason why you are going for human resources management. Explain it all to the VO. You don't need to leave out your work history. Actually, you shouldn't. You should use it to convince the VO. notasowie: |
I didn't write anything that implies that sponsor assets could be used to show proof of funds for school fees or living expenses. I wrote with nuance in my last comment but you may have read it differently. I stated that assets show the robustness of the sponsor, outside of other liquid funds. The liquid funds of course are exclusively what will be used to fund the applicant's education, and these liquid funds should be at least one year's total annual costs or more. The scenario where I feel the sponsor's assets may act as one of many ties (not an exclusive home tie as you seem to think I am saying) is when the sponsor is a parent and other criteria are met. One example criteria: if the sponsor is the parent and owns a business, and the applicant/child is going to study an area that would significantly add a needed skill to the parent's business, then of course the business asset acts as a home tie (obviously other ties need be demonstrated as well). Another example criteria: if the sponsor is a parent and has a lot of assets (even if not business-related), it can be subtly used to show the VO that the applicant does not come from a desperate family/economic situation that he/she is running away from. Of course, these assets are not in themselves sufficient home ties by any means, but they can play a role if the applicant is able to use them to influence the VO (in addition to other home ties). My summary is that every applicant is different and there are no hard and fast binary rules. Two of my siblings got TRVs last year and neither included study leaves or any assets on their application because they were able to show in other ways that they have very strong professional ties to Nigeria. But this doesn't mean that every applicant is the same. Other applicants may need to use a broader combination of financial, professional, & family ties to Nigeria in order to convince the VO. Parental assets can play a role here (when used strategically), particularly for younger applicants. Cheers. justwise: |
Depends on the school, but for most science/engineering courses with funding, yes. Typically, thesis funding pays for all tuition and then you get a stipend every month. But this is not the scenario in all cases. In some cases, it would subsidize tuition or pay for only 100% tuition. adeyemidare: |
