PapaBrowne: I like the Cross River guy. He is a visioneer and wise beyond measure. He went all out to get Buhari to commission, not because of the road itself but because if the seaport must fly, the Feds must first approve.
And more importantly, I like the picture. In this picture is a PDP Governor and an APC President.
Against all odds, they have shelved partisanship and upheld development.
Many APC fellas would hate this picture or would start dreaming that Ayade would decamp to APC. MANY PDP fellas would also wonder why one of their best materials is associating brazenly with Buhari.
Well truth is, true development minded fellas understanding that getting all the collaboration you need would serve your best interests.
Once again, big kudos to the Ben Ayade, the CRS Governor. A truly digital road. I'm impressed. Cross River always produces woulderful governors. Remember Donald Duke?? good observations at the bold |

well all the same good luck to the contractor! I think with it being a PPP, it will be finished. Even if the Govt isn't serious, the private investors wouldn't sit idly by watching their investments go to waste. It's a good and laudable project. I wish them well |

Ghandi12: Some clarifications:
Is this State sponsored or Federal government sponsored? Or is it a joint-venture? Its a PPP i think with FG backed guarantees.... Hear Ayade In his remarks, Ayade said apart from the road project, the state would also be constructing a deep sea port in Bakassi.
According to him, the two projects will be executed through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) . |

Politics › Army Probes Soldiers’ Roles In Ekiti, Osun Gov Polls by theV0ice(op): 8:56pm On Oct 20, 2015 |
The Nigerian Army has set up a high-powered board of inquiry to probe alleged malpractices by its personnel in the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States in 2014.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in an electronic mail on Monday that the panel was also mandated to probe allegations of misconduct against Army personnel in some states during the 2015 General elections. He said that the board was also given the mandate to review the roles played by the formations and units of the Army in the last elections and other operations in the country.
Usman added that the Army authorities decided to set up the panel as part of the efforts to prevent instances of unprofessional conduct by its personnel in the future. He said, “The Nigerian Army has set up a high-powered board of inquiry to investigate among other things alleged malpractices and involvement of its personnel in Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections in 2014. “The BOI is to investigate the alleged unprofessional and unethical conduct of some Nigerian Army personnel in Ekiti and Osun States’ Gubernatorial Elections 2014, as well as in any other State in Nigeria where other allegations of misconduct were made during the 2015 general elections. “As part of its terms of reference, the BOI is to also review the involvement of the Nigerian Army formations/units and its personnel in elections and other duties in aid to civil authority. “The essence of the Board is to prevent future unprofessional conduct by officers and men in the performance of their constitutional roles while strengthening Nigerian Army’s support to democratic values and structures in Nigeria.” Meanwhile, the Army has called on the international community to prevail of the members of the Boko Haram Sect to renounce their membership of the sect and desist from acts of terrorism. Usman, who made the call in another statement, warned the terrorists to surrender in order to avoid serious military action. He warned that the Army was aware of all their hideouts and had closed in on them. The Acting Army Spokesman also urged the insurgents to release the Chibok girls and other captives in their custody unconditionally. http://www.punchng.com/news/army-probes-alleged-malpractices-in-ekiti-osun-gov-polls/ |

Buhari's deputies are always very involved in the day to day running of govt. 1st was Idiagbon, now Osinbajo. God bless and keep both of them (I mean GMB/PYO o) As for the Discos, they should bekiafu |
Politics › Osinbajo Intervenes In Power Firms’ Crisis by theV0ice(op): 5:16am On Oct 20, 2015 |
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently intervening in the seeming crisis rocking the power sector in order to prevent the declaration of force majeure by electricity distribution companies that are seriously agitating for an increase in tariff.
Chief executive officers of power distribution companies as well as the executive director of the Association of National Electricity Distributors confirmed to our correspondent that some of the Discos had declared force majeure because they had been incurring losses since they took over the power firms.
The losses, according to them, are mainly because the current electricity tariff approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is not cost-reflective, a development that has impacted negatively on their operations.
A force majeure is a common clause in contracts that essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract.
In July, the Federal Government took over the Yola Electricity Distribution Company following the declaration of force majeure by the core investor in the firm, Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Company.
The Executive Director, ANED, Mr. Sunday Oduntan, told our correspondent that Osinbajo was intervening in the issue, stressing that the Discos had threatened to declare force majeure if the power regulator failed to consider a cost-reflective tariff for them.
He said, “The vice president is helping us on this issue. He is intervening and trying to get things done properly, and I believe this government is serious to ensure that there is power supply. The only thing is that all other stakeholders, particularly NERC, should get their acts together and know what they are doing, because presently, it is like the commission does not know what it is doing.
“All we want is a cost-reflective tariff. Our people should realise that we need a cost-reflective tariff or else this industry will die. It is not primarily about tariff increase, but all we are saying is that the tariff should be cost-reflective or else this industry will collapse.”
Last week, The PUNCH had exclusively reported that the power firms had sought an increase in tariff by an average of 49.4 per cent, as they intensified their demand for a cost-reflective tariff structure. NERC, however, stated that it would review their demands thoroughly before approving any of the requests for tariff increase. ADVERTISEMENT
The Chief Executive Officer, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Neil Croucher, told our correspondent that although the threat by some Discos to declare force majeure was a bump on the path of the privatised power sector, the current intervention by the vice president was actually calming frayed nerves.
He said, “With Yola, it was a special case and a bit different to what other Discos are experiencing. I believe it is quite some of the bumps on the road that we experience in the business. However, you are actually right, there were a number of Discos that did give notices of force majeure events, but I believe that the manner in which the government has been addressing that issue has been totally appropriate.
“The vice president himself has given wonderful guidelines and I’m very confident that this one bump on the road will be smoothened out and the process can’t fail. The Discos felt that we had deviated from what was originally intended and presented in the information memorandum that was given to bidders and we have deviated from the transaction agreements.
“And we felt that we needed to realign the process, but I believe the government’s reaction has been totally appropriate and I’m confident that if we are not back on course yet, we will be back on course soon.” http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/osinbajo-intervenes-in-power-firms-crisis/ |

ShowYourCertificate: Bros we are in the present. Get used to the fact that GEJ is no longer your president hence not answerable to you. Hold the Duarian Dullard accountable for all your sufferings. He's your president.
I created this moniker during the election period thus you won't see any post where I blamed GEJ in the past. But I did. Though it's past tense now and no longer relevant as he's no longer accountable to me. Funny guy. Have you ever made reference OBJ's govt that terminated 8 years ago in your discussions since you opened this new moniker? what about with your well known previous moniker? of course you have (countless times), therefore it's very hypocritical for you to forget that GEJ left that seat less than 5 months ago and he had 5 years to do something on this road but being the dullard he was/is, he did nothing. I know you're still pained by the loss GEJ suffered but 4 years is too much to mourn and remain bitter PDP have moved on and are already shopping for their candidate......you should too |

Can you reference one single post where you blamed GEJ for his myopia with respect to non repair of this road? Or any other road of strategic value to the nation? Until you do that, you'll just have to agree that GEJ was a dullard for the 5 years of his presidency |

ShowYourCertificate: It is a big failure on Buhari's government if he fails to fix that road. That road has economic value to the nation. It's only a dullard that don't know this for a fact. I hope you'll agree that makes GEJ a bigger dullard for not doing it for the entire 5 years he sat on the seat? Was he that dumb to not know that the road has economic value to the nation? In fact, don't you think he is less of a human when you consider that road is in the region of the people he referred to as the pillar of his govt? |

TRUTHTOPOWER: British Ministers are career politicians. so it is in every parliamentary system. this never detracts from the ability to carry out reforms. Hillary Clinton, Obama, kerry, et al are all politicians and these never undermined their ability to carry out reforms. it is thus uncharitable to suggest that African politicians are incapable of carrying out reforms.
In the colonial era, Chief Awolowo as a politician surpassed the European technocracts sent to Nigeria in terms of ingenuity. In fact they despised Awo for referring to them as mediocre technocrats. Don't mind the unrealistic people. As if the moment you enter politics, you lose all the academic, business and working knowledge you acquired prior |

Buhari's selection process was complicated by the fact that he was constitutionally bound to select a minister from each of Nigeria's 36 states to reflect the character of a nation of 170 million people from 250 ethnic groups."Those expecting a list formed wholly of technocrats were being unrealistic," said Kayode Akindele, a political consultant and partner at private equity firm TIA capital. "He has a good mixture. You could have key portfolios with technocrats, which would help to drive reforms."A cabinet that contains names like Dr Enelamah, Prof Adewole, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Prof Daramola, Dr Kachikwu, Kemi Adeosun, Prof Anwuka, Dr Aminat Ibrahim, Udo Udoma etc can't be refered to as a mediocre cabinet or a cabinet formed to compensate power blocks. Do they mean Udoma Udo Udoma lost all the knowledge he possessed simply because he ran for election and won twice? Do they mean Fayemi lost all his because he joined APC? or Amina Mohammed lost it because she worked with PDP? With this thinking, The stellar Dr Ibe Kachikwu will lose the tag of a technocrat by 2019 obviously. These guys sure need a dose of reality. Even the politicians on the list like Fashola is a technocrat before being a politician and my man that they love to hate...Amaechi is no push over. Buhari had to make a balance and i was pleasantly surprised he had the guts to drop names like Oyinlola, Bode Mustapha and Yemi Cardoso who were Obj's candidates then Tinubu's candidates like Wale Edun, Dele Alake and Rotimi Akeredolu. Really those who were expecting a cabinet of 36 without politicians are very unrealistic. Even An American president won't try that otherwise Donald Rumsfeld and Colin Powell wouldn't have made it into George Bush Jr's cabinet. |

GEJ should have asked what role Edwin Clark played when he was kept as a plaything of Turai. The answer would have helped him know who his friends were. Clark only surfaced when it was time to chop and he arrogated to himself the tag "father of the president". To even imagine that this baba threatened fire and brimstone if GEJ failed at the polls. But I don't blame him....GEJ was there for the taking. Somebody that could make FFK his spokesman after all he regaled Nigerians with about GEJ deserves to be deceived I guess. GEJ was too naive and 'nice' for his own good. He's not a politician, even Alamieseigha described him as unambitious. He was an accident on our political scene. I wish him the best in his retirement. |
