North-east lobbyists seek chairmanship post

There are indications that today’s meeting of the National Executive Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be very full of agitations and counter agitations following the move by a section of the membership of the party from the North-east to ensure that the position of the national chairman is returned to them.

The move to retake the chairmanship post is said to have met a stiff resistance from majority of the members of the National Working Committee who would prefer the status-quo to be maintained.

THISDAY gathered on Wednesday that intense lobbying was going on between both sides of the divide who were seeking out other members of the NEC to convince them to support their position.

A highly reliable party source told THISDAY that some persons from the North-east have brought in a sum of N200 million and have been distributing huge sums of money as bribe to key NEC members since Wednesday night to ensure that they voted for a candidate of their choice from the geo-political zone.

However, another source said that the NEC is divided between those who wants the Acting national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and those who would rather have a replacement chosen from among the members from the North-east to complete the tenure of the former chairman, Adamu Mua’zu who resigned shortly after PDP was defeated in the last presidential election.
Those who are supporting Secondus wants him to continue in office until the expiration of the current NWC in March next year after which a new National Chairman would be elected.

They posit that bringing in a new National Chairman to serve only for five months is not in the best interest of the party.

A prominent member from the North-east is said to be in charge of the distribution of the largesse.

According one of the supporters of Secondus, the use of bribe to project the North-east candidate is against the new spirit in the party, which is in dire need of cleaning up its image in the eyes of the public.

He had argued that any new chairman who emerged through bribery would not have the support of the generality of party members and may jeopardise the fortunes o the party in coming elections.

BREAKING NEWS: SENATE Commitee On Ethics Concludes Reports On Amaechi,Calls Livinstone Wechie an Attention Seeker

The SENATE Committee on ETHICS and Privilges Commsion this evening concluded report on the Former Governor of Rivers State Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,according to the reports which has not been made official,Chibuike RotimiAmaechi has not been convicted by any court of competent jurisdiction.

Mr.Livinstone Wechie who is believed to be sponsored by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State could not substantiate his corruption allegations against the person of Former Governor of Rivers State Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The Chairman and members of THE Commitee took Mr.Livinstone Wechie down today during their meeting with him,the committee also went further to reveal to Mr.Wechie that a firm listed in his allegations has sued him for defamation.

Oneof the committee members asked Wechie if he believes in the 1999 Constitution,which he replied YES,he was reminded that under the constitution Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has not been declared as Corrupt.
With this development,the SENATE will SCREEN Amaechi tomorow

I have to concur with that, Diezani was arrogant, which is why she had no friend even among her colleagues who all felt she was an albatross on their necks. Not dropping her ultimately culminated in the perception of condoning corruption that resulted in GEJ's defeat. She was the only one who could raise her voice at FEC meetings( she had frequent disagreements with NOI) and she became too powerful. I really still don't understand why GEJ kept her...his loyalty to her was his Achilles Heel.
