Let me simplify for readers who don't understand the OP's question. Some employers pay a fixed amount of money on a regular basis (usually monthly) to health insurance companies (HMOs), for the benefit of their employees. These monthly payments (premium) allow the employee to access healthcare at designated hospitals as may be required. The OP is asking if the premium paid by the employer, for the employee's benefit, to the HMO can be used to reduce/recover PAYE taxes paid by the employee on his/her regular monthly salary. The answer to the above will depend on how the employee's remuneration contract was structured by the employer. If the premium payments are included as part of the employee's gross salary in the employment contract, then the benefit will not be taxed i.e it will be tax exempt and deducted from the gross salary before the remainder is taxed. Where the employer bears the cost of the payments without inclusion of the benefit in the employee's gross emoluments, then the employee cannot take advantage of the payments for the purpose of reducing his/her PAYE tax payable. Neither can the employee recover the tax benefit that would have been obtained if the premium payments were included as part of his gross salaries. Hope this helps! |
I'm currently ottermode and working towards athletic. Its not easy but i'll get there. |
spacetacular:You guys finally sent that half-baked IamaNigerian guy packing off this thread with his load of bunkum, and in polite logical fashion, I'm impressed. When next the medical doctor wannabe sights you, I'm sure he'll scurry off with tails between his legs. lol |
Templerun95:Your comment is terrible and makes you no better than a radical terrorist. Please modify it. From upscale Grenfell to rustic Portuguese forests, there's an infernal rage across Europe. Really sad to see people experience hell on earth. Death by fire is probably the worst way to die. I feel for the victims and may their souls rest in peace. |
thornapple:Yeah, way down below Wizkid in the pics. lol |
I would have expected to see Diamond Platnumz there. |
Bigsteveg:There are elements of truth in what she stated, but they are not rules per se. Rather, employees are encouraged not to take public transport but cabs. Staff are regularly assessed on their dressing; Quality suits and shirts are encouraged while low or average quality wears will attract negative feedback. Yes, employees are not allowed to take bikes commuting to or from work/clients during work period. And a manager's annual gross salary at kpmg is 15Million. |
They probably gave him money to buy gun he went to buy rope instead. lol. I think I believe Scantee's account of the incident better. Doesn't make sense for a thug to come all the way from Delta to come and kill someone with rope in Lagos. |
DisGuy:Thanks, Ive noted that. I actually did not remember the club but the image of the woman's voice ringing out in the stadium with Commooooon, to the fans remain evergreen in my mind. |
All Eighteen of them 1. Henry and Pires trying to do a "Messi and Suarez" penalty but botching it up 2. Rooney scoring the famous overhead kick against Man city 3. Beckham scoring THAT 55 yard lob form half way against Wimbledon in 1995 4. Suarez chewing down Ivanovic 5. Ramsey's Leg being broken by shawcross or is it Eduardo's leg, both na Arsenal sha. 6. Arsenal player (Keown) harassing Ruud Van Nistelrooy after he missed a last minute penalty for Man U in the unbeaten season 7. Tony Yeboah scoring that cracking volley in 1993/94 8. Klinsmann taking a dive on the turf 9. Alan Shearer's famous one-handed celebration after thumping in a sumptuous volley 10. Gerard FALLING DOWN against Chelsea to hand the title initiative over to Man City 11. Arsenal's Chamberlain being sent off by referee for a crime committed by another player 13. ERIC CANTONA dashing a FLYING SHADOW KICK to an unfortunate fan 14. Liverpool striker diving on the turf to celebrate with thumb in mouth 15. That WOMAN Norwich or Crystal palace supporter stirring up the fans and players in the stadium to get behind the team to avoid relegation 16. Kevin Keegan making a commentary saying Newcastle will beat Man u to the title with few games to go 17 Liverpool Goalkeeper catching the Baloon d'or instead of the actual ball 18 Referee not being able to continue the game and had to be replaced, (Sorry I missed this. It's actually Paulo di canio pushing over referee Paul Alcock in a game against Arsenal) That's it Guys. Hope I ticked all the boxes? Why Arsenal stories come full the history na? |
In loving memory of Cheik Tiote, who is survived by, amongst others, THAT scorching 30 yard screamer against eternal bottlers Arsenal. RIP Man |
SycophanticGoat:You can as well say the same for Ascensio/Casemiro being better than MSN combined. Truth is Ronaldo was more decisive in the latter stages of the CL while Messi was more influential in the la Liga and the earlier UCL stages. Messi scored 54 goals many of them magical, while CR7 scored 42, many of them regular. But I think CR7 benefitted more from Madrid's outstanding balance and wing play especially from Marcelo, Carvajal, Modric and Kroos. I can't think of any barca player delivering as much in similar positions. |
KevinDein:There's no new status quo anywhere. Below is the 2017 ranking of African universities based on webometrics. http://www.google.com.ng/url?q=http://www.webometrics.info/en/Ranking_africa&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwjb2rSHiKTUAhXK7BQKHa1iBlwQFggLMAA&usg=AFQjCNH4RPZFYWEyLpYx_1dFz7p9rEg1aA UI is ranked 16th, Covenant 24th, OAU 30th, Unilag 52nd and UNN 56th all in Africa. Does that look like Lagos ibadan journalism to you? U need to rise above tribalistic way of reasoning and recognize facts even if it doesn't suit your primordial sentiments. And recently, UI was the only Nigerian University ranked in the world's top 1000 universities at 601. Regional opinions/sentiments do not hold sway here mister. |
EternalTruth:Sorry, I do not engage people who seem incapable of objective arguments. I cannot operate from that pedestal. Disprove my comments with facts and not resort to toutish behaviour. |
KevinDein:This is not a matter of choosing a position. All the schools I mentioned are the most reputed universities in Nigeria based on available statistics over the years. The only one I missed was FUTO. In any group, u have to have the best, and I've mentioned them. This does not demean other lower ranked universities. I do not understand why u feel offended. If a foreigner tells me that University of Cairo is much better than all our unis, I will not be offended cos I know it's a fact. |
melejo:Sorry, I do not engage in tribalism. That the highest number of top rated universities is in the southwest is a fact and not a matter of opinion or sentiments. Same way, the northern part of the country is recognized as the most educationally disadvantaged region by statistics. If I tell you that the highest number of indigenous manufacturing industries is in Anambra/Abia, that is a fact which a SW person should not take offence to. From available statistics in research, Web presence, innovations, international competitions, quality of graduates as evidenced in the corporate and academic sphere, Unical and Uniport do not match any of the unis I mentioned. I only missed out on FUTO cos I could not remember it's name but I agree it's on the same pedestal with FUTA. So you see, objectivity should be based on factual representations and not on some quota system which you seem to believe in. |
KevinDein:Of course most candidates would like to go to "hyped up" institutions. But how many of them would actually apply there as the reality, which they know, is that they may likely not make the cut. So they go for the more realistic options which translates into higher number of applicants for the lesser hyped unis. That's why they come tops in this area. Trust me, if the union body has a way of measuring candidates' intentions regarding what they truly desire, the OAUs, Unilag and UI will take the cake. |
It is important to note that this ranking is not a true reflection of the overall standards for each university. There are factors that will influence how highly sought-after a university is. The most important ones include: - Ease of completing academic calendar - many candidates would want to graduate without any form of delay at an affordable cost. This explains the preference for Unilorin as this is now its main selling point. - Geographical distribution of standard universities - There are more reputable universities in the southwest (UI, OAU, Unilag, Covenant, FUTA, Unilorin, UNAAB) than in the North (ABU) or the Southeast/Southsouth (UNN, UniBen, maybe UniZik). So this means that prospective candidates are more evenly distributed among the SW universities due to tougher competition. -Tough entry standards - Universities that are perceived to be difficult to gain admission into will generally have lesser number of applicants than other "come as you are" universities. This explains why Havard does not have the highest number of American applicants in the US. This takes nothing away from its premium status. In short, OAU, UI, Unilag,UNN and more recently CU are still the universities to beat in Nigeria. At the very top, OAU and UI are the real deal. |
BlakKluKluxKlan:You do not understand my point. How many times do u see owners of tabloids coming out to trade issues with the populace, it's not good for professionalism and credibility. It makes people take sides which is bad for unbiased journalism which Sahara reporters was reputed for. U don't see John Momoh engage in personal issues as it is difficult to separate his persona from that of Channels TV as the owner. If Sowore feels there are sordid disclosures to be made about Dino, it should be on the platform of Sahara reporters and not his personal views. And yes, you cannot deny that SR has lost some points on the credibility scale in recent times. The Ikoyi billions wrongly attributed to Esther Nnagbue, the Dino melaye graduation saga comes to mind. Though, they are still the best investigative journalists in Nigeria, but they've got to watch it cos doubts may creep in gradually. This has nothing to do with Dino being a Hero. |
Sowore should shut it. While he may be right about Dino Melaye's pseudo-intellectualism and plagiarisms, he is beginning to sound personal with his beef with Dino, and he has started to lose credibility with his once-reputed Sahara reporters. Of course, Dino has nothing to lose, he's already mud. You cannot mudsling mud. It's Sowore that's risking his professionalism and credibility. |
Although it was due to the fact that 2face ported to Glo, I think it's best for the show that he leave. Last season, he really could not express himself very well regarding the candidates and it was obvious he was only selected as a judge for his market appeal due to his "legend" celebrity status. His analysis on candidate's performance is usually limited to " U too much, One love mehn.., Brendaaaaa, Brendaaaa.. (laughs) U're there mehn, wonderful performance... etc And Patoranking is not as bad as he's being portrayed. Dude can actually analyze musical performances well. |
nattyjay:Lol, Fergie - "Inzaghi was born in an offside position" |
cashkid:lol, Are u a love-vendor? (at d emboldened) |
I see no issue here from a legal point of view. In the letter, the President referred to his notification of the Senate as being in compliance with Section 145 of the constitution. Now what does Section 145 say? Section 145 : ‘Whenever the President is proceeding on vacation or is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, he shall transmit a written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to that effect, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, the Vice President SHALL perform the functions of the President as Acting President'. Now let's be objective and critically analyze the above section: 1. 'Whenever the President is proceeding on vacation or is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office' - These are the qualifying conditions and both currently apply to Buhari 2 '-he shall transmit a written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives TO THAT EFFECT' - The object phrase "to that effect" is grammatically used as a summarized reference to "the effect of something that was mentioned before". What did Section 145 mention in the earlier part of the sentence? that the President is either going on vacation or he can't perform his presidential duties. In essence, the sentence can be interpreted as "he shall transmit a written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the effect that he is proceeding on vacation or is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office'. In other words, the content of the President's letter is only required, by law, to be a notification of the President's incapacitation or absence. Any other addition is incidental and cannot supersede the intent of Section 145. 3. '-and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, the Vice President SHALL perform the functions of the President as Acting President' - Meaning that unless the President writes that he is back from vacation or he is medically fit to function, the VP will assume Presidential role officially as the Acting President. Now the above is the most important part. It is this part of Section 145 that transfers the Acting President title/powers to the VP subject to the President's notification of the NA of his incapability. In effect, the President's letter does not transfer the title, it is the law that does. The letter is only a trigger for transfer to happen. Whether the letter mentions Coordinator, Acting President or even conductor DOES NOT MATTER. And by all means, Buhari's letter satisfied the minimum legal requirements. The Senator was just raising an inconsequential objection. |
PatriotTemidayo:Clearly, you and many others seem to be having difficulty comprehending the President's letter. I see no issue here from a legal point of view. In the letter, the President principally referred to his notification of the Senate as being in compliance with Section 145 of the constitution. Now what does Section 145 say? The object phrase "to that effect" is grammatically used as a summarized reference to "the effect of something that was mentioned before". What did Section 145 mention in the earlier part of the sentence? that the President is either going on vacation or he can't perform his presidential duties. Zane2point4:This is not about him being guilty or not. He is wearing gloves because there are maggots on the already-decomposing head. The Ghanaian authorities were kind enough to allow him that. |
MONITZ:I'm surprised nobody noticed. He is wearing gloves because there are maggots on the already-decomposing head. The Ghanaian authorities were kind enough to allow him that. |
Hopez456:I agree with you that the contractors are partly responsible as the diversions on to the one-way usually result in the head on collisions as seen in this case. What usually happens on the one-way is that the buses and smaller vehicles try to overtake the slower-moving tankers occupying both sides of the lanes. Sometimes there isn't enough space on the one-way to accommodate all of them vehicles overtaking, with no alternative to reverse once committed, the drivers then hope that the other oncoming vehicles somehow back-off, but then it's too late and the collisions occur. The drivers too should be more careful. So sad 36 lives wasted just like that! |
Oando is d best anyday. That Heyden station near Ogudu/alapere is also very good. |
jconsulting:Lol, babe you're wicked!, ur attention to bedroom details is deliciously graphic |
cutelover19:Having health insurance does not translate to automatic freedom from life-threatening diseases. Between, the report did not say he did not have access to healthcare, given that he died after surgery at UCH. So sad at his death. He was a great Actor that was passionate about his profession.
