You should build a trustworthy relationship from the beginning such that going through his or her phone is not considered a snoop.I wake up in the night seeing my wife browse with my phone.

Thorpido you're in your 30s right? People of that era have a different mindset and were brought up differently (my brothers are of that age group), not all of them but there was a different mindset. My dad encouraged his sons and daughters to do their best. Decades later, I befriended a younger woman and her junior brother. One day, this much younger guy was flaring up at his older sister and one of his complaints was "she doesn't even cook for me and leave food for me. Is that how she will behave in her hubby's house? ". Meanwhile, they were in school together at that time and came home together and he expected her to drive him home (which she did), then enter the kitchen and make him a meal, he didn't feel to help her. And look around NL, majority of the male commenters are young unmarried men who keep denigrating women and advocating violence to solve issues. Older men were not like this, my FIL (in his 70s) says things have gotten worse.

Women older than me (their 60s) achieved more than all these girls shouting here. But it looks like we are sliding back, not forward.
40's.
Nairaland has actually created an awareness in me about the mindset of the much younger ones in this generation. My younger ones are in their 30's so the place to get an idea of what is happening to younger people is here.I must say i'm appalled by some of the things I read here especially the romance section.

There was a gang rape thread one time and you need to see some of the things they wrote, blaming the girl.Things have really gone down south.A lot of young guys see girls as some 'take-away',no thanks to the media.
Fathers(and other men) are not doing enough raising good boys i must say.
Feminism should help women in this generation become better and demand more from guys(I'm personally just still skeptical about the feminism I see displayed).

It's gullible people like you that would sit still and smile as someone makes boast of his wealth(which you willingly donated to him) while you still manage and struggle to live and survive.

SMH.
You're obviously not an intelligent fellow.Did you read inbetween the lines to know he was talking about being rich in people?
You should have even asked me first if I belong to his church.

Talking about managing and struggling to survive,i do not live by that experience.I know it's hard for you and you are just managing but not everyone is your position. You don chop today?

You are having one of the problems that come with pregnancy. You have something called carpal tunnel syndrome.
I got bad news for you.It can't completely go away until you give birth.
What you can do is massage it with an analgesic cream which will relieve you of the pain. Also try to rest your hands.

Atheists are often confused.

sorry but I'm doing the same to my daughter as well (even making plans so she doesn't spend her formative years with Nigerians). I've met only 2 relatively sane Nigerian men (both were 2 of my brothers), even my hubby acted "sane" and is now acting like his fellow cave men (I don't know if it's his Naija environment and I have to keep stopping it). My child can't go through this, please carry una "superiority" to "bless" other people's daughters.

You must be submitted to some higher authority as a human being (men and women alike) instead the equation is not balanced and it is very dangerous to bring males up telling them they are demigods and can do no wrong (or are you enjoying the weekly updates of rape cases against babies, girl children and young women and elderly mamas huh ). Look at our society and tell me how that's working out for us. undecided
Well, you're free to raise your daughter anyhow you wish.
My parents didn't raise us that way in my family.I do not deal that way with the woman i married.

The rape cases has to do with men being physically stronger than women. If it were the other way, women would also rape men in the same magnitude. It has to do with a decadent society and not necessarily because men are taught to be superior.

My sister, hmmm, Nigerian men ehn! I just shake my head. My case is similar to yours, I have managed to drum out the sexism to an extent from my husband cos b4 we married he used to say and think the dumbest things. However his relatives? I shake my head. The day his uncle told me, pregnant women shd not wear trousers! Or "don't cross your legs in front of your husbands ppl! I just ignore him. When I told my husband, he was mad. See these ppl are so damn backward, just ignore them. I ALWAYS said my daughter will never marry a Nigerian man. I said it even b4 I had a daughter. I can't deal with their wahala for the poor girl. My husband has bn asking what is wrong with Nigerian men, I refer him to his relatives.
@first bolded, all Nigerian men talk and think this way?I'm sorry but you got yourself the wrong crew.
@second bolded, you can't choose for your daughter. All you need to do is raise her well so she knows to makethe right choices.Don't put wrongs things in your daughter's head. You can't use your husband's village to judge all Nigerian men.

It's your choice anyway.

Abroad

Y?
I guessed you were abroad.I don't blame your parents. They have every reason to think you might lose it if they don't try to keep you in check even though they are doing it the wrong way.You also on your part may have given them a wrong impression even innocently.
What you should do is focus on your education. If you can stay on campus while in school,it gives you more freedom. You won't be with your parents forever so don't rebel.
Once you are through with your education, you can make your own decisions.

thats why d country made it a must to create enof schools for d alarming population and u see a parent desperate for one school out of many huh
Unilag is just an option the father tried. He said he also planned to check out OSU.I wouldn't say he was desperate. The daughter didn't meet the cut-off mark and was just exploring options.

From the story she has been coming to unilag togeda wiv d man wen he gave body language did she ever tell her parents?
Wat do mean she is 18 like most girls are married at dat age d earlier u put it in ur mind that 18yrs old of this generation most of them think and act like a 23years old lady the bettrt for your 18 years old relatives or friends this girls at this age are more wild than you can imagine ok huh
How many 18yr olds are getting married at that age in Nigeria?Do you live in northern Nigeria?According to the story,it was her first time of going with him to Unilag(father's reported story). There was no indication that she had had much rapport with him.
I agree with you that girls of this generation are much exposed.I just don't want to agree this incident was consensual.

Am never saying d lecturer is not guilty bt girls comin out givin out semi truth semi lie story is annoying he myt av grabbed her and all bt wudnt av raped her
Am sayin all dis cos i kno of girls who delibrately give their body out to lecturers wiv out dem askin
Some agrees to it
I av seen and heard a lot in that school cos am a student so wen a girl just wake up sayin dis dey really need to go deep into d matter it was a mutual thing huh
Are you speaking of the applicant that was raped?
That girl is 18yrs old and she had just been introduced to the lecturer by her father.I doubt she would be interested in consensual sex with a man that old for that matter.I know some girls get spoilt very quickly but I doubt in this case.

I dont mind parents who discipline their kids but what i hate is when you are clearly an adult and your parents are still treating you like a child.

Like me for example am freaking 20+ and i cant talk to no guys especially or even talk to any one especially Nigerians/Jamaicans coz they are wild people said my dad.

I serioulsy think some parents are bloody over protective from the day i was born i cant make no fucking decisions for myself without getting my parents involve even now that am going to uni i try not to let them know what am doing coz they r so controlling.

I love my parents sha but its too much i cant breathe when am around them even to have a normal cconversation i dnt want.

Me when i have my own kids i wont make them be afraid of me like i am to my parents.

The worst thing is I am more afraid of my parents than God. Which in itself is scary to say out loud.

Nigerian parents need to cool down on the overprotectiveness especially to their daughters coz they r just driving their kids to rebel. They dont give us no privacy what so ever. I dont even want to talk to my parents one bit coz it just leads to arguement.

I have never reblled in my life but yet my parents think i have. They think once am out of the house am a differnt person when thats not true. For so many years have been trying to show them that thats not true but am just wasting my time.

cry cry cry

Seriously cant wait till when i finsih uni then i am moving out kiakia so sick and tired of them already.
Are you in Nigeria or abroad?
