slye: seriously, I've not come across a Christian that can defend his/her belief. They seem to run away
Christianity is meant for a Christian to come and prove or defend something to you?You must really be joking.

A Christian who understands Christianity has nothing to prove to you.Christ came and accomplished what He came to do.Jesus said,'it is finished'.

'For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to them that perish......(1 Cor. 1:18)'.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians, come in for a dialogue by thorpido(m): 7:22pm On Nov 27, 2013
Does a man have a religion with his father? When we say Christianity is not a religion,it is because we have a relationship and a fellowship with God-the Father.

For those criticising, can you tell me any religion that says God is their Father?

unoguli: First I want to thank all of you for your answers.
Yes,my child is only 11 weeks.. But since I have made the experience that you get used to speaking a language to a specific person I want him to start it now, before it feels strange to him..
I am a Swiss and so I speak my motgerlanguage, which is German to my son..we live in Switzerland,so the current environment is speaking German as well..
Most Igbo friends my husband has here dont teach their children Igbo..why is that?
I gave my husband a lot of arguments why he should speak Igbo to him but maybe one of you has the one to convince him?
I told him it is best to teach ones child ones own mother language. I told him about the importance of our son to know Igbo language well since our son will b the one to represent him in the village once we may no longer be alive. I told him that through language you also teach a lot about the peoples culture..We are planning to move to Nigeria in future and our son would feel like a stranger in his own father land not knowing Igbo..
The more arguments you can give me the bigger tge chance the convincing one is among... :-)
Keep encouraging him to.I'm surprised he's not enthusiastic about his son learning igbo.
You seem a good woman.keep it up.

There's something your wife's trying to point your attention to and you should try to figure it out.
Try to talk with her when the mood is right.

Does your wife work?If she's a stay- at- home mum,she might be getting tired of that and transferring that frustration.
Family › Re: A Pregnant Woman Going Insane Because Of Her Hubby, Needs Your Advice Urgently. by thorpido(m): 7:09am On Nov 24, 2013
Your husband is displaying immaturity. To put the blame on you for his challenges just spoils everything.
Isn't he supposed to man up and face his challenges?I blame both of your for the pregnancy however. You guys didn't plan your lives well. Both of you doing your masters and you still decided to bring in a pregnancy.Timing wasn't right!

You need to have a talk with your husband and probably get someone who he can listen to, talk to him.He needs to calm down and understand this is a phase and it will pass.Does he have a spiritual life?Does he have hope in a Higher power?Do you also?

Believe the phase will pass.Look forward to having your baby and also making it with your M.sc.Believe it will be good at the end and you look forward to getting a job that will put good money in your pocket.

If you had a child in September, that means your child is just about two months. There's nothing wrong with speaking his language to the child now but the child still has a long time to learn so there's no need to rush.

Are you not Igbo too?Where do u stay(asking to know if your environment has many igbo speaking people)?

No need to rush,I believe he'll start to learn as he grows.

Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
deols: well, I may not have known at the very beginning that you were the same guy that gave the analysis on genetics.

But what made me post my initial comment demanding proof is that baby_123 as shown by her later comment was already using your idea to buttress her point that it could be genetically passed down from a mother to her daughters. so if a woman has daughters, going by that, irrespective of the male chromosomes being viable and swimming well, her daughters would have female children.

You should have corrected her then, making it clear that the researches are inconclusive or emphasising that there are many factors...

and I asked you for proof but instead of giving the proof as demanded, you went ahead to talk about being a scientist.

Scientists work with facts. That would have done the job, Sir. and you are a physiotherapist, not an obs and gynae..You should have left this discourse to the experts.

we are all good though...

I am still checking on your sources. The harvard one goes directly to their homepage- you may want to repost it.
I didn't pick the part about baby_123 saying it was hereditary,I gues my eyes skipped it.
You don't have to be an obys and gynae to know about body fluid PH and it's effects on cells and organisms,it's basic medical science. This is taught in 100l zoology in UI where I schoolled.Having a PH of less than 7.0 is acidic while more than 7.0 is alkaline. Some organisms are more comfortable in either of the two environments.
Moreover I didn't say it was my research but studies done by other people.

I'm sorry I couldn't get d article on the Havard website again.I just stumbled on it and tried to check it again but can't get it.It was an article in one of their newsletters about factors affecting fertility.
Please just check the others.
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
deols: Something like this could go wrong with people trying to change the acidic nature of their body using all kinds of things.

And even your source says the pH of the se.men matters as well. I can bet it that, majority of people who tried this did not get the desired result.

Some may have gotten what they wanted, but this may not have been responsible.

Imagine the fable that albinos's conception is in the afternoon is why they are the way they are. Would a medical scientist propagate that as well or that yam eating will give you twins.
Your post shows what the bigger problem is:not following well enough.
If you check my first post,I did not even mention PH.The PH issue came up because of a question baby_123 asked.I only said cervical mucus PH could be a contributing factor(amongst other factors) and you are making it look like I said it was the determinant factor .Like you said people could read and take a different action. It will only be because they didn't follow well or understand as you are showing.

Have you seen the book 'How to choose the sex of your baby' by Dr Shettles?Try and get a copy and read it.He published an article titled 'Factors influencing sex ratios' in the International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in 1970.

Also check out this article by Dr Malpani of Malpani Infertility Clinic in India.
www.drmalpani.com/book/chapter16.html

There are some articles also here:
www.health.harvard.edu which has publications by the Harvard medical school,US.

www.sart.org which has an article by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine that addresses factors affecting conception and cervical mucus PH was mentioned.

Also check www.natural-health-for-fertility.com

If at the end of these all you are still not satisfied, then i rest my case.

I repeat again that I never said cervical mucus PH was the determinant in having female offsprings. There are other factors and it could be one of them.
I am a physiotherapist since you asked.
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
^You have it wrong with your notion that i'm trying twin argument the so called Nigerian way.I wrote that because she said it was a beer parlour gist and i wanted her to know i'm a qualified medical professional.

I have read this in medical journals but they are in hard copies so i didn't include any link here. However thank God for the internet and with a little research one can lay hands on a couple.

I never said the things i wrote were my researches but they are based on what i read of other people's researches.I am not Hippocrates.
If you say they are theories, you are right but they are theories based on repeated researches done by people at different times using different samples.Medicine is ever evolving so things stated today can be changed tomorrow. That's a fact.
If you understand medical research, not everything is stated as a fact but based on researches done at different times, there may be a recurrence of something or people having similar results, and as such it is put together as a finding. There are still some things in medicine that don't have explanations!

Anyone can just do a search on Google about the effects of cervical mucus PH on gender of a baby. You can come back here to give your opinion about it and your facts on why you agree or disagree.

Life is simple!
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
deols: Mr. medical scientist. Why not mention your exact branch of medical science. Where did you study? and were you taught about medical studies and how to present them?

If you can not give a link or mention a page from a medical journal proving your opinion, then don't you open your mouth anywhere to talk anything medical again!

even with your 20 yrs plus experience, you appear less than half baked. It takes less than all of your 20 yrs for an educated person to know that you don't go about spreading ignorance.

so again, provide a proof or keep QUIET.
I've seen someone mention here that you are a proud and arrogant person. It shows from your post here too.We are looking at a topic and discussing it and you are free to bring an opinion or a counter-opinion but what you resort to do here is to start throwing insults.I won't go down that way with you.

I will send you links later, you can check this out in the meanwhile.
www.ehow.com/how_5671916_change-acidity-gender-selection.html
www.scialert.net/abstract/doi=tmr.2011.161.168

You can just do a search on the internet too on effects of cervical mucus PH on gender of baby.

Not everyone here throws insults. It's not just a teenager's forum.

deols: It is not enough and very very somehow to use the experiences of a few people as proof while discussing something scientific.

The reason people elsewhere have done better than us is that they look for proofs and carry out researches and studies and not just make assertions to prove points. Scientists make use of samples of a population that can be representative of the whole population and not the example of a small no of people.

And if anyone talks of an acidic vagina fluid preventing the conception of male children, they should please prove it.

**
These would make us appear educated and not having the 'beer parlour' gists.
You are probably not in the medical sciences and you probably read my post and misunderstood it.

Picking a woman's PH from all i wrote shows u misunderstood my post.

From when I got into the medical school in 1994 till today is about 20yrs.I don't know about the 'beer parlour' gists you are talking about.I know and have read about researches done even though I have not had to do any on my own along this line.
Researches as you say is what I speak about and not beer parlour gists.

Do you know for instance that the types of food you eat can give a particular sex an advantage over the other?

Please understand that researches are always ongoing and that new ones may come up to nullify the others. Also some theories are not set in stone but are held until another comes to dispel those.
I have not said whatever I wrote is FULL PROOF.Conception in medical science is about chances.

The summary of all I've said is the sex of a child is determined by what sex chromosome fertilises the egg.The X will make it a girl while the Y will make it a boy. Some factors however favour one over the other.
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
You all seem to be misunderstanding my post.
I never said the PH of a woman's womanliness is the sole reason for having female children.
It can contribute.
What determines the sex of a baby is the chromosome that fertilises the egg-X or Y.Some factors determine which one is MORE likely to do so.That is all I have tried to explain.

Don't know why PH is all you picked from my post?
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m): 7:16am On Nov 17, 2013
nachie20: So many people claim to know it all cos they're medical scientists when those of us in the profession do not even yet agree on several medical issues.
yes, some factors deterine a child's sex but basically, the greater role lies with the man.
You are saying the same thing we've been saying while at the same time trying to oppose.
I said the basic thing about conception is which gamete fertilises the egg.if it's the X gamete,it will be a female while it will be a male with Y.However, some factors will aid which one gets a better chance.

As someone in the medical profession as you said, you'll agree that some theories are not set in stone but keep evolving. Not everyone agrees on every medical issue. There are always different schools of thoughts.

There's nothing you agree with that is in anyway different from what I have said.I guess the problem was with the comprehension of what I wrote.

Only 18? Sad
Young lady,u're going to have this baby.I'll need to prepare your mind.
Having a baby at your age will not be easy so brace up.You'll deal with a lot.

Your boyfriend is obviously a young guy like you, immature. He may run away like you said he will so you might have to bear this burden alone. You'll face the wrath of your parents but it won't kill you. This pregnancy will also disrupt your education.
You'll have to let your parents know and eventually they won't have a choice but to support you.

To every young girl reading this, pregnancy is real!No matter how sweet a guy talks to you,it's your body at the end of the day.Learn protection and insist on it if you can't practise abstinence.A lot of young girls will keep blaming the guy but you have to take responsibility for your own body.

To mothers who have daughters, please don't assume your daughter is too young and she can't be having s.ex,she can,A lot of young girls are having s.ex now.The world is not like it was at your time. Please teach your children sex education and also protect and be there for them.Make yourself accessible.Let them be able to talk to you about anything concerning them.
you wish.
madam,i'm a medical scientist so I'm nt 'wishing'.
There are a lot of factors that determine what sex a child will be.The basic thing is which gamete,X or Y fertilises the egg.Only one gamete can fertilize an egg.
A lot of factors come in which include the timing of ovulation and the conditions of the reproductive system at the time of ovulation.A woman's fluid has a PH which changes within the course of a cycle. The X and Y chromosomes do not have the same resistance. The X chromosome can endure more and live longer. If a couple meet days before ovulation takes place, there is a chance that more X chromosomes will be available, increasing the chances of a female.
When we say the PH is acidic,it doesn't mean acidic like a car battery or laboratory acidic.Do you know that even the PH of saliva can be acidic? An acidic v.aginal environment will not kill all the cells,it just makes the Y chromosomes more vulnerable.
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m): 9:15am On Nov 16, 2013
onegig: ok. Wetin i no go hear for here. So the fluids will be searching for one that contains the x chromosomes to kill abi?
Get education.
The male gametes and the female gametes do not have the same nature. The Y(male) gamete is faster but weaker and dies easily. The X(female) is slower but can endure more and live longer than the Y.Depending on the condition of the v.aginal environment, the male sperm may not survive long which makes it easier to have more female gametes to fertilize the egg.
There's something called the PH of a woman's fluid.
Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m): 6:29pm On Nov 15, 2013
I know men are responsible for the sex, but OP's question makes me wonder sometimes. I know a family, all girls and have given birth to all girls too. I mean all the girls have had all girls too. Their mothers family too all girls. This our human body sometimes e get as e be sha. grin. I may sound ignorant, but is it a coincidence? Trust me, these women are all finding boy children with binoculars grin
On very rare occasions,it's been found that some carry only one type of gamete.
Some women also have v.aginal fluids that are too acidic and kill the male gametes easily when introduced. This is one of the reasons a woman could keep having girls.

Family › Re: 6 In Their Family, No Male. Will I Be Able To Have Male Children With Her? by thorpido(m):
The sex of a baby is determined by the chromosome that fertilizes the egg at the time of conception and the timing of intercourse/ovulation.
There are some factors that favour a male gamete and others that favour the female gamete and the timing of ovulation.
It's only in very rare cases that you will find a man who has only one type of gamete.
