I thought Igbos did not care about June 12, saying it was a Yoruba affair that had no recognition in the SouthEast, and so should not be regarded as a national affair? Now their brain has started to wake up to understand why it is Democracy day and not Abiola day, as it involved many players, and the consequences of the annulment affected the then partially existing democratic structures all over the country that includes the SouthEast. As for the umpire, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, he played a steadfastly forthright role in the June 12 affair, and surely deserve his recognition and accolades for paying his dues. Having already been invited to the ceremony, I would hope a listening government will not be too irresponsible to seize the initiative, now that it has been drummed into their ears. The ideal scenario that should play out on that day is to begin the ceremony by having Prof Humphrey Nwosu conclude his assignment by reading out the results of the election, declare the Abiola/Kingibe ticket as winner of the election and president/vice-president elect, then the award of national honours begin. |
That has been the culture among the SW states since 1999. 25yrs, the Silver milestone. |
This is what the welfarist state of Ekiti deserve. An extension of the stomach infrastructure of Fayose. He should not forget to plan for their Christmas small chicken in typical Fayose style. |
He's right. Truly there was Naeto C before Davido, but I'm sure Davido is referring to immense success in his chosen career. Naeto C made waves, but did not even dominate in an industry that had DBanj, PSquare and Tuface still holding it down. Davido is dominating Africa, irrespective of his frog voice. |
oyb:Apparently he became too used to such lifestyle of speaking anyhow. I have read through his Facebook post. Such opinions should not be found on the wall of a news editorial chair. |
OP beat me to this expose. Truly a man who heads the editorial chair of vanguard, should not be using his Facebook page that has no anonymity, to post the kind of personal opinions that might hurt his position with a supposedly unbiased news media. They are his opinions which are no different from that of many on Nairaland, but it is a surprise that people with such opinion would be unmasked only to reveal that many anarchy craving and bigoted posts like the ones I have posted below, would come from someone with so much experience as a journalist. Even when corrected on some posts, he refused to remove the misinformation. He is one of many, despite his profession that deals with facts, that believes Fayemi is seeking to return to Ekiti as governor so as to establish cattle colonies, like many anarchy craving Igbos parrot on this forum on behalf of PDP. He also berated Okorocha's stooge son in law for wearing a turban, calling it subservience to the North as his precondition to rule IMO state. Such deliberate bigotry to dissuade potential voters is unbecoming of an editorial board chairman. He believes Buhari is 83yrs and not 75yrs. I'm sure he also believes that Buhari has been raping his wife when she was 13yrs and married her then as a paedophile, as against the fact that he married her as an 18yr old adult. His bigotry suppressed and conquered the journalist in him, and without having anonymity, proved that he is the great moro.n of Nigeria without any sophistication.

Omololu007:Buhari might have said worse in private conversation also, but we will never know. If the president of the country said that about any tribe, that would be a great political disaster. The man in question is not a politician neither is he seeking for votes. He freely expressed his emotions as an already known anti Buhari, anti North, anti Yoruba. You cannot expect him to be happy with what he felt would cajole the Yorubas to vote in Buhari for a 2nd term. He expressed his bigotry privately as a private individual, without the anonymity that Nairaland affords us all. I would be posting an expose on him later today, if I get the chance. But I'm hardly moved by his comments knowing how passionate he is about the failures of Buhari, and the aspirations for Biafra. |
CilicMarin:I am of the opinion that he is entitled to his private conversation, as many on this forum are entitled to same to which they do so without restraint. The only problem is he was too stupid not to realise he did not have anonymity. One then wonders who truly is the moro.n? |
This is guerrilla warfare. |
Jonathan already achieved that control by giving Ojukwu a national burial, hence the Igbos stuck with him despite his national failures and failure to deliver the 2nd NigerBridge as he had promised the SouthEast. Ojukwu died a Nigerian and was buried a Nigerian in the national colours, while Biafran flag was nowhere to be found being on unconditional surrender. |
The request for more states is purely sentimental and does not right any wrong as it doesn't exist. There is no land mass or population to merit such demand. If it is by population, Lagos and Kano should be 5 states. If it is by land mass, Borno, Niger, Oyo, Kogi, Benue, Taraba, Kaduna and many more equal or exceedingly surpass the whole of the SouthEast that already looks like a thumbnail. The only objective consideration is to totally cut out the Anioma section of Delta state and have it as the smallest state and new member state of the SouthEast. Same should be done to Southern Kaduna and included as part of MiddleBelt, just as Taraba has no business being part of the NorthEast and should belong with the MiddleBelt. All the Yoruba sections of Kwara including Ilorin, and the Yoruba sections of Kogi should also be cut out to form a new state that is part of SouthWest. The map of Nigeria does not lie, as it is scaled equally to the reality of the landmass ratio.

Good that the forthright umpire was invited to witness the delayed conclusion of his efforts. Prof Humphrey Nwosu. I would be waiting to see if Woke Soyinka shows up. He would be in a dilemma of conscience to show up in support of the decision which he obviously would approve of being one of many activists who mobilised against the annulment, or not show up to reinforce his opinion that the Buhari regime has not lived up to expectation and not wanting to be associated with the regime. |
Salary owing Fayose suddenly wants to empower the citizens. |
Wiseandtrue:You were too emotional to even realise sarcasm. |
I have long noticed that we have no HSE culture in Nigeria. In fact HSE is a taboo in the country HSE compliance only exist with the multinational companies operating in Nigeria. Who born you well to ride in a vehicle without a 3point seat belt for every passenger, talkless of double decker lapping? It is for this reason why a vehicle somersault results to the death of almost all passengers involved. When you see a manhole that can cause serious injuries or death, left open for weeks without any caution signs or barrier, then you understand why human life has no value in Nigeria. |
ednut1:Yes it's there with the reporter in the periphery of the picture. Except Channels already existed in 1993 when there were no private TV stations in Nigeria at all. |
Since it has Channels TV, then it definitely was not 1993. That has to be 1998 after Abacha's death or after Abiola's death. Channels TV began airing in 1996. Modified: And indeed I have confirmed with the John Momoh interview of Abiola after the annulment in 1993. This confirms that Channels were active, even if not yet airing, and explains why their name plate is on a microphone at a 1993 protest. |
Who would ever believe that Obasanjo who ran his democratic regime as a neo-military civilian rule, would also one day lament about rights in a democracy? It is good if current national administrations fear the probe that tomorrow will bring. Buhari should entertain the same fears for the future where there are no sacred cows. |
Barzinime:My achievement is that I don't depend on the government to survive, while the government depends on my tax. The things for which I depend on the government is to provide a sane society where there is justice and where criminality is duly and promptly punished. To enjoy my basic rights in a supposed democracy. |
FSBoperator:Are you not tired of conspiracy theories and tales without sources? Are you unaware that loyalists of Abiola were meeting with the military hierarchy at his behest, to find a solution to the problem, before Abiola then returned to Nigeria and declared himself president 1 year after the election, when he it became clear to him that the military was not ready to hand over power anytime soon? |
The stale Clinton-Chagoury-Tinubu-CIA conspiracy that never makes any sense and never discloses any sources. |
ChiefAzubuike:Typical! You should have even claimed that Azikiwe is the only Nigerian on the list, and that others are all foreigners. The mentality of the 1960 - 1966 Igbo only meritocracy. It's engrained in the DNA. IGBO = I Go Before Others |
Maybe if he his also duly honoured for his forthrightness, some who sectionalize June 12 claiming it did not affect them as though democracy remained in their own region, will finally agree that it was of national significance regardless of what tribe the presumed winner was. |
I will never forget rolling on the sand for being in the hostel while seminar was ongoing. |

The way everyone is smiling in the pictures, one would think all was well in Nigeria. How do they go about selecting these youths? If I was there, I wouldn't have been able to put up with this charade. I would have walked up to the president and asked him serious questions about his fight against corruption. About corrupt members of his presidency who are seated at the table with him. I would have asked him about the continued lack of discipline in the police force. I would have asked him about the imaginary powers of the military to exert any authority outside of their barracks over Nigerians and institutions of a civil and democratic state that has not declared emergency martial laws. I would have asked him why his fight against corruption has not evolved an education policy that attacks this menace right from the primary school. And why the ministers and director generals in ministries and government agencies have refused to cascade this anti corruption policy to their staff and their operations. Apart from political corruption, we still see corruption everywhere in the civil service. I would have asked him if he has never received reports of how the Nigerian embassies around the world are the reason why the corruption index of those respective countries is higher than what is observable in their sane society. I would have asked him about the Fulani herdsmen sacred cows from Libya, and what value does the government place on the life of a Nigerian as compared to the life of supposed Libyans. How many deaths will it take to flush out this Libyans with no known residential address out of the Nigerian space. I would have asked him how long and how much will it take to repair national refineries that seem never to be working. I would also have asked him why Jonathan and his civil servant billionaire wife are not yet languishing in jail. I would have asked him how long it would take for a Nigerian democratic leader to actually champion the requirements for true democratic tenets within the political system, starting with the political parties themselves, such that every primary election at the local or state or federal level, would involve every single registered members of that party within that locality. That we are yet to practice inclusive and total democracy within the political parties, is the reason why godfatherism and political violence and factions continue to beguile our political system. I would have asked so many questions that project the reality that incorruptible Nigerians are not smiling, and if they are, it is because they finally got that foreign visa. |
