Gentle lady ni mi mio kin shey fighter, ... |
A very nice read. Availing the opposing arguments with both having recourse to the law. |
Let us ask those who claim there should be southern unity, yet every democratic government that was led by the North, always had them as a willing partner. Except for the Yar'Adua regime that had an Ijaw man Tafawa Balewa / Azikiwe Shagari / Ekwueme Had the NRC won , it would have been the same scenario. Bashir Tofa / Sylvester Ugoh For the first time ever, a Yoruba Southerner is the vice to a Northern president, but the Igbos have not let the rest of the South have any peace, as though someone robbed them of their inheritance. They have been everywhere lecturing any Southerner that cares to listing to their tales of misery, espousing imaginary concept of Southern unity, and claiming the Yorubas betrayed it by not giving the same Jonathan that they had already voted for in 2011, a chance to return and continue his wastages and cluelessness. They claim Buhari won in 2015 because the Yorubas wanted to be vice-president and so betrayed the South, but they cannot explain why the same Buhari who had Tunde Bakare, a Yoruba Christian pastor also in 2011 as running mate, and Nuhu Ribadu that had a Muslim Yoruba banker Fola Adeola, all lost to the same Jonathan in Yoruba land of SW (minus Osun state)and parts of Kwara and Kogi. Is it that the Yorubas did not know the benefits of vice presidency in 2011? Or the rest of the South don't just want to accept that a failed and utterly clueless and irresponsible president known infamously as the ineffectual buffoon, did not deserve beyond the sack that every failed employee gets? Hypocritically, these are the same Southerners who in 1993 voted in 3 out of 4 Igbo states to have a Northerner as president ahead of a Southerner who was contesting, because the Igbo man would have had the opportunity to take his rightful position as vice-president as it has always been democratically till then. They will claim the NRC only won in the SouthEast in 1993 by slim margins, but they conveniently ignore that APC also won in the SouthWest in 2015 by slim margins also, and as 1 Igbo state of Anambra voted by slim margin for Abiola a fellow Southerner in 1993, so did 1 Yoruba state of Ekiti voted for Jonathan a fellow Southerner in 2015. Rivers state where Jonathan was from then as there was no Bayelsa yet, did not also know of Southern unity yet, and gave Tofa the highest number of votes and percentage in the entire South, against Abiola their fellow Southerner. For the Igbos who love to lament and shed crocodile tears of deceit, Southern unity did not matter then. Betrayal did not matter then. Their consistent democratic "slavery to the North", as they love to term others, was a matter of merit then. |
The way everyone is smiling in the pictures, one would think all was well in Nigeria. How do they go about selecting these youths? If I was there, I wouldn't have been able to put up with this charade. I would have walked up to the president and asked him serious questions about his fight against corruption. About corrupt members of his presidency who are seated at the table with him. I would have asked him about the continued lack of discipline in the police force. I would have asked him about the imaginary powers of the military to exert any authority outside of their barracks over Nigerians and institutions of a civil and democratic state that has not declared emergency martial laws. I would have asked him why his fight against corruption has not evolved an education policy that attacks this menace right from the primary school. And why the ministers and director generals in ministries and government agencies have refused to cascade this anti corruption policy to their staff and their operations. Apart from political corruption, we still see corruption everywhere in the civil service. I would have asked him if he has never received reports of how the Nigerian embassies around the world are the reason why the corruption index of those respective countries is higher than what is observable in their sane society. I would have asked him about the Fulani herdsmen sacred cows from Libya, and what value does the government place on the life of a Nigerian as compared to the life of supposed Libyans. How many deaths will it take to flush out this Libyans with no known residential address out of the Nigerian space. I would have asked him how long and how much will it take to repair national refineries that seem never to be working. I would also have asked him why Jonathan and his civil servant billionaire wife are not yet languishing in jail. I would have asked him how long it would take for a Nigerian democratic leader to actually champion the requirements for true democratic tenets within the political system, starting with the political parties themselves, such that every primary election at the local or state or federal level, would involve every single registered members of that party within that locality. That we are yet to practice inclusive and total democracy within the political parties, is the reason why godfatherism and political violence and factions continue to beguile our political system. I would have asked so many questions that project the reality that incorruptible Nigerians are not smiling, and if they are, it is because they finally got that foreign visa. |
emmasege:Inauguration day is the day of inauguration, so it must occur when the tenure expires and another begins, so that is May 29th. In the USA, it is Jan 20th or so, and it is not even a public holiday to the best of my knowledge. Democracy day exists because of our historical struggle to get it. |
The supreme court has given a valid order, GTB has no choice but to comply. Then when the case is finally entertained, whoever wins would go home with the money that would have accrued more interest. As for the other criminal case against Innoson by the EFCC, hopefully that will arrive at a just conclusion too without any sentiments. |
Another expose from the stable of Anas Aremeyaw Anas. |
obonujoker:Ogbeni, stay at home and declare every day public holiday for the over 200 tribes in Nigeria. You must think governance is a circus show. |
kingzizzy:You honestly think any Nigerian cares what the Igbo care to regard as heroic or not? If you chose to abandon it to the Yorubas to fight for democracy for the rest of Nigeria, are you not ashamed of yourself? Did the military not come in due to the crises that resulted from that annulment? Did democracy remain in Igboland after the military had halted it in every other part of Nigeria? Did democracy not return based on the consistent struggles to actualize the June 12 national mandate? So why are you rejoicing that you as a people do not regard June 12? You should be shedding tears of shame. Did the government consult you now before doing what is right? So why then are you disturbing yourself when you are already not reckoned with? |
obonujoker:You are obviously a clown who has no business with serious governance. While you're at it, also declare Ijaw day and Kanuri day, Urhobo day, Bini day, Igala day, Berom day and Ibibio day Indeed you are a joker. |
kingzizzy:That you don't regard it and it does not resonate with you, shows that you do not even deserve the democracy that allows you to be wailers. On any June 12 public holiday, go and force private corporations and government offices to open in the SouthEast. Did the termination of democracy in 1993 not affect the democratic governors in the SouthEast? Did it not affect SouthEast state legislators and federal legislators who were already in office before the annulled presidential elections? Did Ezeife in Anambra and Nwodo in Enugu remain in office as democratic governor after Abacha took over, because June 12 annulment only affected Yorubas? That you so easily abandoned the struggle that was national and made it a Yoruba problem, and embraced military dictatorship, is why every other tribe took the back seat to allow only Yorubas contest the 1999 presidential election. Does Sallah public holiday resonate in the SouthEast that is Christian? Do you force yourself to work even when your employer says you should stay at home for Sallah? |
These are the reactions that we should be expecting. Good thinking by the Senate. |
Good! These are the kind of objective reactions that were expected. |
Was that ever in dispute? Ekweremadu must have been ignorant to even entertain such confusion. May 29th is Inauguration day only without the previously integrated democracy day. June 12th is Democracy day. |
yeyerolling:Are you implying that Nigeria did not deserve a democracy in 1993, but they deserved Abacha. You mean that Nigeria deserved for all the democratic institutions that were already existing including the democratic governors like Michael Otedola in Lagos, John Oyegun in Edo, Felix Ibru in Delta, Segun Osoba in Ogun, Late Isiaka Adeleke in Osun, Clement Ebri in Cross River, Ada George in Rivers, Chukwuemeka Ezeife in Anambra, Ogbonnaya Onu in Abia, Okwesilieze Nwodo in Enugu, Kabiru Gaya in Kano, Yahaya Abdulkarim in Sokoto, Moses Adasu in Benue, etc, to all be sacked from office and have the military take over with Abacha in 1993? Whatever Abiola was, he had the mandate. A mandate freely given but taken by the powerful few. Now that it has been recognized, why is your soul troubled? |
I want to see the shameless Obasanjo's reaction. |
ApostleT:Obviously you did not read the news, such that despite the extra effort put in to address ignorant fears that a Democracy Day automatically becomes Inauguration Day, you still had to ask the same question already answered in the last paragraph. |
The day will eventually come, then all the sourceless sources can finally rest their liver. |
Ok |
I remember all the political jingles of that election. Some years back, The Nation newspaper gave out some VCD/DVD that contained all that transpired in the June 12 election and subsequent annulment and crisis that engulfed the nation. The demand for democracy during the military regime of Abacha and Abdulsalami, was always in reference to June 12. That is how important June 12 is. |
That's very typical. |
Ventura1:Yes! Because that is how the presidential system is even in America that designed it. So stop fretting on behalf of Osinbajo who knows the law and knows his limitations as determined by the law that empowers only the principal. He does not need your sorry. The aides of a president are more powerful than the vice. It is not an anomaly. |
Ventura1:I am telling you of his due recognition as victorious running mate in a presidential election, resulting in the GCON award for which you created this thread. Stop beating about the bush. He will be awarded his GCON. He will be given whatever assignments and appointments this government or any other requires of him. Osinbajo as vice-president will continue to execute only tasks that his principal, the President, requires of him. If you had any idea how the Presidential system of government works, you wouldn't have wasted your time with all this aimless conspiracy theory. Even if you were ignorant of the Presidential level, are you also stark ignorant of how it exist at the state level? Are you ignorant that the vice or deputy is only as useful and significant as the principal has need for him/her. A principal that has many aides and appointees that can be assigned the same tasks that can also be assigned to the vice/deputy. How many years of presidential democracy do you need to experience to understand the relationship between the principal and his vice/deputy? The vice's/deputy's only statutary role is to succeed the principal when required, as observed in how the newspaper reading vice-president Jonathan in a Yar'Adua government that was controlled by his kitchen cabinet and aides, was able to succeed him after his demise without any contest, while the same aides and kitchen cabinet that had no regard for him now had to submit their loyalty and reverence. Now continue to nurse your misery. |
Ventura1:So you mean that because there was a mix up as to who was the leader of the Nigerian delegation to a conference in 2016 that involved Kingibe as a presidential adviser on foreign affairs, that means a due and merited recognition of GCON made in 2018 then means he is being appointed as vice-president from the back door? Are you unaware that the role of the office of VP is not defined in the constitution, and the VP only executes tasks as assigned to him by his principal, the President? So if Osinbajo went anywhere at all, it was under a presidential directive to do so. Are you saying Kingibe should not be given his due recognition because there was a protocol mix up in 2016? What is the relevance of that 2016 event to the present recognition of Kingibe, that is making you so elated like you have discovered the national treasure? Whatever caused this your misery is very deep. It is the prerogative of the president to assign any role he deems fit to his vice-president. That is how the Nigerian constitution was written without any statutory responsibilities for the vice president or deputy governor. That is how it has been since 1999 at federal and state levels. It is also the prerogative of the president to assign roles to aides appointed by the presidency. All of your anarchy baiting is irrelevant to the working relationship the president has with his vice. |
I knew it will not take time before bitter anarchists do something about their troubled soul. If you know your are miserable, you truly know. |
Holak:The protest against OBJ was not political at all as Labour and civil activists made a fight for Nigerians for even salary increase strikes that even the state governors irrespective of party affiliation did not want to increase, and all the current political players were just state political officers then. Truly, the reason why there was no protest against it during the Buhari regime, was because the economy was in shambles already. It was so obvious to the blind that the government had no money. Secondly, is the political angle you opined, as the opposition PDP forgot they were now required to mobilize like others like ACN and ANPP did. Maybe PDP was waiting for the ruling party to do it for them. |
FFK's soul his mortified, but he has no choice but to proclaim that Jesus is Lord. |
NickD:Most students irrespective of tribe objected to the name change. But I am sure you saw my specific accusation made at the Biafrans like the poster I quoted. "What kind of rubbish name is Moshood" I am also sure you saw him implying that those who objected went to court. My aim is to prove to him that even separatist Biafrans like him, also rejected the name change. So he should now go and look for them to protest this declaration too. |
selemempe:Dude if you claim that you were part of any protest at all in Enugu, then you must have been a union member who found themselves alone without any support from the residents of the state. I insist that Enugu that I watched live on the news, was as normal as Monday workday, and I still insist that Sullivan Chime ensured that the Sit-At-Home strike was totally not adhered to in Enugu state. Or you think I just mentioned Enugu and Sullivan Chime specifically, even after you had claimed to have been involved in the strike in the same Enugu? When I tell you I saw something live, please believe me because I am like an Elephant that never forgets. I will never need to lie about an historic event just to win an online argument. https://news.ghanamma.com/2012/02/16/removal-of-oil-subsidy-in-nigeria-the-only-way-forward-gov-sullivan-i-chime-of-enugu-state/ In Enugu State for instance, the Governor Mr. Sullivan Chime rose to the challenge and took steps which left no one in doubt that he was in full control of affairs in the state. Apart from his passionate appeals to Nigerians to support Mr. President’s action, he advised that they should see the removal of oil subsidy as an action taken by the Federal Government in their best interest and the nation’s economy. Among the places Governor carried this campaign to include Nsude in Udi Local Government Council where he addressed catholic priests of Enugu Diocese at the Sacred Heart Seminary. He explained to the clergymen the whole truth of the matter as regards the deregulation policy.Who born school children well to go school in Lagos during a sit at home strike with street protests? Many more instances like this were commonplace all over the SouthEast and SouthEast (while Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, Jos were at a total standstill), who reduced the protest to a Yoruba and North protest, and for which till today, everybody except you have continued to label it a political protest by Yorubas and Northerners against the favourite Son of the SouthEast and SouthSouth. |
selemempe:I was expecting you to say the bolded, but you forgot that many like you claimed Yorubas championed the protest of 2012. So were the NLC and TUC presidents (Abdulwahid Omar and Peter Esele) Yoruba? Is it only Yorubas that live and work in Lagos or Ojota? Or have Igbos not tirelessly claimed the Yorubas opposed subsidy removal in 2012 and protested in Ojota? You see how you just disgraced yourself for nothing? I used your own argument to disgrace you so effortlessly. And I'm sure you were not blind to my mention of Yoruba civil rights activist and academia, and even politicians I never mentioned like the Afenifere organization, and other senior Yoruba Labour activists who were not the president of the central Labour Union but were presidents of specific unions. I hope you remember activists like Gani Fawehinmi, Beko Ransome-Kuti, Wole Soyinka etc who were always at the fore front of such protests during the OBJ years. While the likes of Ankio Briggs suddenly lost their activism when their Son was in power. We watched everything live, and we saw how the SouthSouth and SouthEast detached itself from the rest of Nigeria in a struggle that was national. Till today, even Igbos on this forum claim it was a Yoruba and Northern protest, so I don't know why you are trying to revise an history that was televised? |
selemempe:I reckon that Ebitu Ukiwe, Aikhomu and Akhigbe are Yorubas who were deputies to Northern military dictators? Observe carefully that I used the words North/SouthEast alliance to include all possibilities which included association and voting as reflected in the 2nd republic. When Azikiwe chose to form an alliance with the North and NPC to be a junior member and ceremonial president, when he could have formed an alliance with the West and AD to be the senior member of the alliance and become executive Prime Minister. Awolowo would have accepted the offer if he was in an alliance with the North like Azikiwe was, but Azikiwe had the opportunity to be prime Minister in an alliance with AD, as no single party, including the Northern NPC that had highest number of seats, had exclusive majority to form government alone. You say it is laughable that I accuse you of political arrangement with the North, yet you think the SouthWest is best described as such when we were in the opposition in 1960 and 1979 to a political arrangement of the North/SouthEast? Obasanjo's failure to do what is right and noble, has now presented Buhari the opportunity to take such glory. |
SarkinYarki:He has switched dates to a more significant date that has a lot of history around it, and that helped to precipitate the handover and inauguration day of May 29th. While MKO has been honoured with a due GCFR that former leaders are awarded. Buhari has done what the very first president of this current democracy refused to do. He didn't need to personalise it, as MKO being the presidential candidate that won, only symbolised the aspirations of the majority of Nigeria. That he insisted the democratic election must be concluded with the votes release, made him symbolise the aspirations of all Nigerians that participated to exercise their democratic franchise in that well regarded election. As such, June 12 being the democracy day, instead of a personalised Abiola Day, reinforces the reality that the consequences of that annulment affected all the democratic structures all over Nigeria, and the struggle to have a return to democracy was for the benefit of all of Nigeria and not just Abiola. Obasanjo is currently shedding tears of shame. |
