the best thing i am doing his year is educating myself on what really went down in the 60's.
The Igbos did not get up one day and start the war, you need to understand how they were killed by soilders, baying mobs, i read one woman had to escape east with the head of her baby,, they were thrown over the river benue, woe betide you if they saw you wearing western garb you were dead, soilders were killed in their brigadeds, it was for their safety that is was decided that all the esterners should return home, because of how they killed them it got so bad that after killing the top igbo officers, they installed Hassan Katsina as the CoS, when they was a Yoruba Brigadier ahead of him, infact Murtala Muhammed our fake hero, was the loudest baying for blood and seeking for seccession from Nigeria.Igbos never wanted a war, but the had to fight because they were being killed in droves.Ojukwu even refused to meet any of the SMC outside the east, that was how bad it got.
Yes!

Educate yourself even beyond the 1960's.

Everything that happened during the Biafra war was what Azikiwe had projected in the early 1950's should any region attempt to secede from the federation, having rejected a constitutionally allowed secession.

The irony was it wasn't the North who were at the receiving end of those projections when the cookie crumbled.

You have never had to fight a war to liberate your self from oppression, that why you can say things like this.

A people wanted to be free and fought hard for their freedom even against impossible odds. To me, that is a most honourable thing to do. To turn around and become a Northern slave in other to avoid war like Awolowo and the rest did is a cowards way out of a fight and Im glad Ojukwu did not bow to it. Im an Igbo man, if someone is going to bring me to my knees, it will be after they beat me in a fight rather than me kneeling out of fear and cowardice.
Then embrace that noble ideal to the end, rather than cry about it later when you know you embraced the consequences when there was another way out that was inevitable - a surrender without further loss.

And if it was inevitable once an economic blockade had been achieved by Nigeria, must over a million lives be lost by Biafra to reach that conclusion?

King of rat poison angry angry angry may you never no peace even in that grave yard

Rest in pieces son of devil angry angry angry
His face and name still adorns Nigerian national landmarks.

He was a real Nigerian, without any apology to foreigners and Biafrans.

If only Azikiwe had listened to superior logic of Awolowo and agreed to a secession clause in the constitution, the war Azikiwe declared as being the only way out of the Nigerian union, would not have became the sad fate of his own people.

Azikiwe even suggested what the East might do to prevent the North from seceding. He even suggested an economic blockade and famine. All of these suggestion were eventually to happen to Azikiwe's Eastern region.

In 1953 when Northern Nigerians were beginning to consider secession from the Nigerian colony that would soon be a nation, Nnamdi Azikiwe gave a speech before the caucus of his political party, the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) in Yaba, Nigeria on May 12, 1953. That speech, while not disallowing secession, suggested that there would be grave consequences if the Northern region became an independent nation. Ironically, fourteen years later, Azikiwe led his Eastern Region out of Nigeria and created Biafra, a move that prompted a bloody three year civil war. Azikiwe's 1953 speech appears below.

...It may lead to economic nationalism in the Eastern Region, which can pursue a policy of blockade of the North, by refusing it access to the sea, over and under the River Niger, except upon payment of tolls. It may lead to economic warfare between the North on the one hand, and the Eastern or Western regions on the other, should they decide to fix protective tariffs which will make the use of the ports of the Last and West uneconomic for the North.
The North may be rich in mineral resources and certain cash crops, but that is no guarantee that it would be capable of growing sufficient food crops to enable it to feed its teeming millions, unlike the East and the West. Secession may create hardship for Easterners and Westerners who are domiciled in the North, since the price of food crops to be imported into the North from the South is bound to be very high and to cause an increase in the cost of living. Lastly, it will endanger the relations with their neighbours of millions of Northerners who are domiciled in the East and West and Easterners and Westerners who reside in the North.
You may ask me whether there would be a prospect of civil war, if the North decided to secede? My answer would be that it is a hypothetical question which only time can answer. In any case, the plausible cause of a civil war might be a dispute as to the right of passage on the River Niger, or the right of flight over the territory of the Eastern or Western Region; but such disputes can be settled diplomatically, instead of by force.
Nevertheless, if civil war should become inevitable at this stage of our progress as a nation, then security considerations must be borne in mind by those who are charged with the responsibility of government of the North and the South. Military forces and installations are fairly distributed in all the three regions; if that is not the case, any of the regions can obtain military aid from certain interested Powers. It means that we cannot preclude the possibility of alliance with certain countries.
You may ask me to agree that if the British left Nigeria to its fate, the Northerners would continue their uninterrupted march to the sea, as was prophesied six years ago? My reply is that such an empty threat is devoid of historical substance and that so far as I know, the Eastern Region has never been subjugated by any indigenous African invader. At the price of being accused of overconfidence, I will risk a prophecy and say that, other things being equal, the Easterners will defend themselves gallantly, if and when they are invaded.

To remove Akintola and restore Awolowo to power?
Did Awolowo tell anyone he was interested in remaining the Western premier he had voluntarily relinquished to seek a federal seat for federal power?

You do not blame Ojukwu for the hunger, I also do not blame Awolowo for successfully implementing a blockade.

Only a fool would continue to fight a war when you have already been economically castrated.
Only a fool will continue to fight a war while still depending on relief supplies that must pass through the country you are fighting against.
Only a fool will expect mercy in a war.

Only a reasonable minded Philip Effiong whose own Ibibio town had already been liberated from Biafra by the federal forces, saw the need to surrender to prevent the suicidal Igbos from becoming an extinct specie displayed only in European museums.

In a 1996 interview, Effiong reflected on those events:

I have no regrets whatsoever of my involvement in Biafra or the role I played. The war deprived me of my property, dignity, my name. Yet, I saved so many souls on both sides and by this, I mean Biafra and Nigeria. . . .
I felt that I played a role which has kept this country united till today. . . .
At the end of it all when I saw they (Biafran soldiers) could no longer continue and Ojukwu had fled, I did what was ideal after wide consultation . . .

ikevictor:
You are such a good writer...and an apparent honest one.

But just because you sound like a politician or content editor from the political space. I choose not to believe you... angry
The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has concluded that Mrs. Stella Oduah, the Minister, is a serial liar.

In a report on its investigation obtained by SaharaReporters, the committee dismissed every single claim the Minister made during her testimony to the committee earlier in the week concerning the purchase of two bulletproof cars for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

It stressed there was no appropriation for the purchase of the two armoured cars, and stressed that the NCAA proposal for the purchase of the two MBW armoured cars was rejected.

“There was no provision for armoured vehicle in Nigerian law for a minister in any event, any procurement for an armoured vehicle must be provided for in the appropriation act and backed by relevant approval,” the report said.

The committee also noted that the Minister and the Director-General of the NCAA claimed that both vehicles were purchased under a lease agreement with First Bank plc.

“The assertion is not true because First Bank plc clearly stated that they were procured under auto loan, this is clearly shown by the loan agreement between NCAA and First Bank.”

Furthermore, it said, “The document submitted shows that BMW chassis No. DW68044 and DW68032 while on ground committee inspect BMW vehicle chassis No. DW68044 and W68011 , the identity of W68011 is still unknown to the committee because the vehicle chassis number did not tally with the documents submitted.”

Turning to other testimonies, the committed recalled that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, clearly stated in her presentation that her Ministry did not approve any waiver for the two vehicles.

“Coscharis Motors Limited claimed that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted it import duty VAT, ETLS, CISS, and port charges waiver to import two number bullet proof BMW armored cars, this claim is false. The Hon. Minister of Finance in the testimony before the committee stated that the Federal Ministry of Finance only granted waivers to Lagos State Government through Coscharis Motors Limited in 2012 for the importation of 300 units vehicles for use during the 2012 Eko Games and that the waiver did not include the importation of two BMW armored cars.”

Similarly, both Mrs. Oduah and the DG of NCAA claimed in their presentation that the procurement of the operations vehicles complied with the relevant laws of public procurement, fiscal responsibility and due process. This claim was countered by the Bureau of Public Procurement assertion that it was not part of the transaction between NCAA, First Bank and Coscharis Motors Limited to procure the operational vehicles. Furthermore, no evidence at complying with due process was shown however.”

The committee further recalled that Mrs. Oduah also testified that the lease financing arrangement would see NCAA pay N100m by the end of 2013 fiscal year while the balance of N16m will be paid in the following year. The amount, according to the Minister, fell below what is required for Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval.

“However, documents from NCAA indicate that on April 25th 2013, the Hon. Minister approved the sum of N564, 665,000,00m. There is no evidence to show that the Hon. Minister presented NCAA’s request to Federal Executive Council for its approval.”

The committed observed that neither the Minister of Aviation and NCAA submitted copies of necessary documents to validate the claim that the transactions followed due process whatsoever.

I trust Stella Oduah to always deny initially, then edit her lies over and over again till even the accusers began to have some compassion at her predicament. She is the Nigerian version of a bimbo with no brains, who managed to catch the attention of the right people with her since eroded beauty.

I remember she also denied the armoured BMW purchase scandal then through her media aide, Joe Obi.

But when the heat became much, she claimed it was to be used by her because she had stepped many toes while reforming the aviation industry and required more security.

Then when the heat became unbearable she decided to improve on her lie, claiming that the vehicle was bought to be included in the pool of cars of NCAA to be used to convey foreign dignitaries who visit.

But how do you explain the need of the aviation ministry to receive foreign dignitaries in the aviation sector with armoured cars, when they did not step on any toes, and as such do not require the level of security reserved for presidents?

How do you explain the need to have bullet proof cars in the pool of NCAA when NCAA already had enough cars, and were coerced to go apply for a loan to purchase the said BMW cars, when the ministry of aviation she headed could have covered such purchase in their own budget?

How do you explain the fact that the house of representatives committee on aviation who investigated the scandal, never located any of the BMW cars, as the one presented to them had a different chassis number from the one that was delivered by Coscharis? Why were they not found in the pool of cars used by NCAA as was claimed in the final version of events as released by her media aide, Joe Obi?

Why did Coscharis Motors falsify records to indicate that the cars were being purchased by Lagos State government for the national sports festival that was to be held in Lagos, thereby utilizing import waivers that were not merited by such a luxury item?

How do you explain the fact that all notable firms contacted by Sahara reporters for such an armoured BMW of same model, gave quotations that were less than half of the amount expended on the BMW purchase?

I also remember she lied about a Masters degree she never had and was outed by the institution when Sahara Reporters contacted the school. She quickly edited her academic profile on the Aviation Ministry website to erase the previous bogus claims a la Dino Melaye, the guy who visited Harvard, but claimed "graduated".

Many cowards in this thread. This happened because the west supported Nigeria, not because Nigeria was stronger than Biafra. But with new war laws, starving civilians is no longer accepted.... thats is partly why universities still remember Biafra war and conduct lectures about it. Using chemical weapons, starving civilians and using human shields are now war crimes and would not be tolerated. If war should happen again for the christian East to be free from the Muslim north, let it.
Case1: Was it Nigeria that was using human shields? If so do we then blame Biafran soldiers who killed the human shields to get to the Nigerian soldiers?

Case2: Was it Biafra that was using human shields? If so do we then blame the Biafrans who said they had the best army in black Africa, yet resorted to using human shields to defend themselves while they attack?

You are still making arrogant boasts despite seeing all the misery your previous suicidal boasts inflicted. Yet you could not prevent a successful blockade executed by Nigeria in the early days of the war, and had to live life at the mercy of Nigerian benevolence to allow food and relief items through a land corridor, but like an arrogant beggar who thinks he has a choice, you insisted on airlifts in a bid to ensure supply of "weaponized food".

I do not believe in peace, I only believe in justice. So if by law he his deemed worthy of an arrest, and as a result his terrorist group attempt to "bomb Nigeria down to the ground", then every single one of them should be neutralized. 2 million terrorists under oath to his command in Abuja is of no significance to the case of facts before the judge, so Kanu should stop being scared of returning to the prison he voluntarily campaigned to return to. Terrorism disguised as people power will not stop the Judge from revoking a bail that has been vehemently abused.
