Ok, thank you. quote author=giselle237 post=115107443]@tiffanydavies. You or the applicant is already a Canadian PR holder which is a plus plus. Avoid too much shalaye and apply as tourist/standard visitor visa since you dnt have so many documents to back up an official visit. You won’t be getting less than 6 months. So u can apply for 7 day visit and submit all the necessary documents . When you are in town, you attend your personal conference for 2 days thts all .
|

Hello, This is a follow-up to yesterday's question; after choosing the business category, one of the optional documents the UK gov requested is a letter from the employer/business sponsoring the trip. The problem is that the trip is self-sponsored and coincides with time off work (vacation). The intent is to attend the conference for two days to boost the attendee's portfolio for research publications and go sightseeing for the remaining 7-day-stay. The above are personal plans, and the employer has no input. The company's culture does not include leave of absence letters. Anyone is free to travel with full salaries for up to one month in a calender year as long as they meet yearly quotas. Wouldn't the above travel plan be more suited to a tourist visa than any other type of visa? If yes, isn't it better to choose the 'other option in the photo below and explain the situation? Is the 'other' option applicable to tourist visas? The 'other' option only requires three documents: a passport, proof of funds and documentation showing legal residency in the country of residence. We assume that the other documents one can include in this category include a conference invitation, UK travel itinerary and travel plans to other countries for the vacation's duration. Also, what would be anyone's best recommendation for a hotel reservation? The conference venue is close to the airport. Is it better to lodge in an airport hotel for the conference duration and move to a hotel in the touristy area afterwards? Please help! TiffanyDavies:

Hello everyone. Please, can someone point us in the right direction to apply for a UK standard visa to attend an academic conference? Someone has probably answered it in the thread, but we have spent hours reviewing the thread to no avail. The application is for a Canadian PR, and we don't know which of the options to choose in the below photo.

I would encourage you to apply with a 3.59; it is not low. However, some things like the university you attended (for example a public university like OAU, UNIBEN or UNILAG), your work experience and how it aligns with your research interests or reasons for wanting to study are given extreme weight by some admission comittees. Celebrities / Re: Kiki Mordi's Accuser, Oge Obidiebube Reportedly Commits Suicide by TiffanyDavies(f): 3:39am On Dec 14, 2020 |
This story reminds me of my experience in junior high. My senior (one class higher) and I were selected to represent my school in an inter-school debate competition. The old was the chief speaker, and my role was to support her as a second speaker. When we got there, she chickened out. I was very nervous but had to represent our school, which eventually emerged in third place, in her stead. Later on, they called the chief speaker to receive the prize; a kitchen trolley and some other items. Since our school had sent her name earlier as principal speaker, she was the one who received the gifts. There was nothing for me!! I learned a vital lesson from the incident. Never take the back burner or let anyone use your sweat without acknowledgement. Remember the old Nigerian Ambi Pur Advert? Two friends were standing; one flagged a car; the car stopped, and the other girl quickly rushed to the front passenger seat. I feel very sorry for Oge, but it seems to me that Kiki believed in her idea better than she did, and that's why she took the risk of using her real identity. If the documentary had flopped, she would have been the one tagged a loser. She also put her life at risk too, but that does not justify passing off one's work as hers. I hope that Oge can learn from this and work on even better stories. The harm has already been done. |
Music/Radio / Tips For Starting A DJ Journey by TiffanyDavies(f): 5:39am On Dec 13, 2020 |
This COVID - 19 business has gotten the better of me. I have been working from home since April, and I want to work on a new hobby. I have always been interested in Disc Jockeying; years ago, a DJ friend let me try my hand playing with his toys, but the memory is blurry now. Please, I want tips for a beginner DJ. What startup gadgets should I be looking to buy? Has anyone ever tried the Hercules Dj starter kit? I will appreciate any helpful guide. |

Romance / Would You Ditch A Wedding Band For This? by TiffanyDavies(f): 8:18am On Apr 09, 2018 |
Times are indeed changing!!! Just like finger tattoos have been a replacement for wedding bands, it appears that the latest trend is finger piercings.Reasons cited for this including fear of loosing wedding rings, theft and of course doing something out of the norm. As each day passes, brides and grooms are opting for finger piercings rather than the conventional wedding bands. Studs-ranging from simple to diamond studs, or sometimes two (one on each side) are usually worn on the ring finger. The procedure which is painful, involves piercing the wedding ring finger and fixing a stud within the hole pierced. Dermatologists warn that this does not come without hazards. If the skin is pierced too deeply, it would eventually grow over the stud, and if it is not pierced deep enough, it just might move. It is also reported that the wound created during the procedure may take as long as a year to heal. Oh well, let us hope that the pain from all of this makes marriages last longer!!!! Check out a video of the procedure below blob:https://www.thesun.co.uk/a3b56845-aa4e-4d4f-88e8-e6256e16cb56 source:https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/5764047/bizarre-new-trend-people-ditching-their-wedding-rings-finger-piercings-excruciating/

Religion / Re: Toronto Based Ice Cream Shop Mocks God And Christians. by TiffanyDavies(f): 1:46pm On Apr 02, 2018 |
Muafrika2: Jesse01:First, you must understand the management of the ice cream chain do not identify with christianity. If that is the case, then why did they decide to use the name of Jesus as their business name? Second, why make allusions to bible verses, symbols and attempt to write them in reverse or make them comical? The cross is attributed to Christianity. So are angels. Three, the use of scary images of children is questionable. Four, This isn't a fight for Christians alone. If brands like this allowed freedom to do as they please with people's religious beliefs, then a war is imminent. Tomorrow, it could very well be the Muslim faith being mocked. |
Religion / Toronto Based Ice Cream Shop Mocks God And Christians. by TiffanyDavies(f): 6:25pm On Mar 28, 2018 |
The online community is still in a frenzy over Toronto based ice cream shop named 'Sweet Jesus'. Christians in the US, who regard the name as ' 'balsphemous' and regard it as 'hate speech', call for a boycott of the shop, and have begun an online petition calling for a name change and a public apology from the management. Other groups who are not christians, but think that the advert makes a mockery of the christian faith, are also in support of the petition. The shop currently boasts of about 20 Toronto locations and is fast expanding into the US to the dismay of Christians. The brand whose logo whose logo contains an inverted 's' and a 'lightning bolt', makes use of words and phrases such as 'last supper', 'bless', 'cross to bear' and 'God' from the bible in its menu. It also uses loud graphic advert strategies such as a bleeding vampire, and a ship's boy with a rosary resembling that used by catholics. Owners of the brand--Andrew Richmond and Amin Todai have responded stating that it is quite unfortunate that persons are displeased with the name of their brand, but that it would not be changed. According to them, "Sweet Jesus is an honest reflection of our experiences and that of our customers and how they react when they try our product. In our experience, the majority of people understand that we're not trying to make a statement about religion." As few days ago, those who seem to think that the advert shop is harmless were leading in an opinion poll. However, more persons are beginning to sign the petition calling for a name change. Those interested in signing the petition calling for a name change are enjoined to do so at: https://www.change.org/p/change-org-change-the-name-of-sweet-jesus-ice-cream-remove-offensive-antichrist-imagery-immediately; http://citizengo.org/en-ca/sc/158645-toronto-based-ice-cream-parlours-serve-blasphemy credit:http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2018/03/26/christian-community-slams-sweet-jesus-ice-cream-shop-over-blasphemous-name-imagery.htm https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/sweet-jesus-ice-cream-chain-blasphemous-christian-petition-toronto-canada-a8277186.html http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/sweet-jesus-ice-cream-1.4592984 https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/petition-labels-sweet-jesus-ice-cream-shop-an-attack-on-god-1.3860278

Nairaland / General / Re: Hi Nairalanders, A Fellow Needs A Help On How To Overcome Stage Fright by TiffanyDavies(f): 10:24pm On Mar 06, 2018 |
I used to have stage fright. I would shy away from asking questions of answering questions in class. In group assignments, I would join the research and writing team instead if those who wanted to present. This went in till I entered a competition that required public presentations. The thought of the prize money took all the stage fright out of my system and I learned how to face huge crowds. Here are some useful tips I used which nay be helpful to you too. 1. Arrive well before the auditorium or meeting room becomes full. Take a position and imagine you facing people occupying all the chairs in sight. 2. When speaking, look for a friendly face. Some people have naturally relaxed, friendly faces. These may encourage you. 3. If you aren't sure about a friendly face, go with a 'reasonable' friend (reasonable because some friends are the power house of laughing gas. They will begin making faces at you even before you begin.) Your friend should be seated before the event starts. Make eye contact with that friend. 4. Look above the heads of the people seated in that room. This helps a lot when you feel the people in the room are more qualified than you are. 5. Ask your audience questions. This will help build your confidence because you would be giving the impression that you know what you are doing. 6. Enter competitions that require you to address an audience. The prizes to be won could be a motivating factor. Good luck!!! |

Romance / Re: 10 Reasons Why African Guys Double-Date by TiffanyDavies(f): 5:47pm On Feb 26, 2018 |
Drnice:First, I am not a 'sire'. I am female. Next, I would not even make a comment on yours if I have never lectured on feminism before. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Feminism does not connote "What a Man Can Do, A Woman Can Do It Better'. Feminism as we know it today arose as a time where persons who identified with the female sex were relegated to the background. For instance, statutes of male soldiers in the first world war depicted them in full military apparel with their trousers clearly visible. Women on the other hand had only their faces visible. Their female apparel were blurry. Also, women were being underpaid for same tasks performed by men. Women writers as at that time had to adopt male pen names, in order for their works to gain recognition and appreciation by critics and fans alike. All of these led to the feminist movement. In order words, feminism is equal to equal recognition for equal performance. In order words, it means 'don't deny me this and give it John just because he is a male when we both are doing the same thing.' Feminism has never argued that men are women are the same. Of course that isn't possible considering our different characteristics. What feminism is against is the roles ascribed by our society to men and women. Why is it that some job vacancies specify that they want only a male or only a female for a job that can clearly be performed by both sexes? Why is it that when a female politician rises to speak sometimes, her male counterparts attack her with words like 'shut up woman!' why is it that we hear stuff like "how can a woman be given that position?' Now, feminism isn't concerned with what you do in your home. It is purely a social and political movement. There are women who aren't educated or don't know about the feminist movement but have personality clashes with their husbands. Note also that nowadays, feminism has been extended to include both queers and transgender individuals by countries which recognize them, so it is wrong to limit the movement to male and female. 2 Likes |
Family / Re: Am I Married To Him? by TiffanyDavies(f): 12:19am On Feb 07, 2018 |
This question has three simple answers. You are deemed married traditionally as long as your bride price is paid. In the eyes of the law, you are deemed married as long as you have a valid marriage certificate / license. In the eyes of God you are deemed married after getting blessings from a pastor. In view of the above, which can you say you have successfully done? If you haven't done any, you aren't married. 1 Like |
In a family law case, if the other party does not enter appearance or pleadings, the judge grants whatever the petitioner seeks in his/her claim based on the default in pleadings of the defence. So even if she had asked for 10 million per month there, it would have been granted. The only way to have gone about it is to appeal that decision cos it is deemed Atiku's son received sufficient notice( her petition and other necessary documents were served on him--the court ensures that) before the court came to a decision. There is no hard and fast rule to this. Even if it was a divorce case, the divorce and every other claim would be granted in the absence of a response by the other party. |
