Hello everyone

Thanks to all who contribute o this thread. The information here is massive.
Congrats to those who have gotten their visas.
Favor and grace to those in the process of going for their interviews.
and renewed hope to those who have been denied, but plan to try again.

Pleasseeeeee I need all your help here.
I am filling my DS-160 form and i need to know how to go about the following:

1. The part of address where you will be staying in the US.
2. Who is paying for your trip?

1. For address, I picked one of the school housing units to fill the form, (while I may eventually get off campus housing) please what do you guys think?

2. With regards to the person paying for the trip, I have the option of co-sponsorship of my brother and our family friend, self, as well as $11k assistanship from the school. Now my brother has about N6m and our family friend has about N3m and I have about same amount too.
On my i20 it says self, family and friends and the school assistanship as source of funding.
Now should I fill my brother as person paying for the trip being the person with the higher amount of cash here. However, what happens to the others involved in the sponsoring? Please how do i explain this. (I no sabi dagbo and I no even fit think am even f some persons say na the way... I no do)

Kindly help ooo, I have paused my DS-160 and awaiting answers from the experts and gurus in the house.

@LagosismyHome
@sharwama
@Time2win
@Mayorsmart005
@Brown2Green
Please kindly assist me.
All others too abeg all your inputs will be appreciated.

Meanwhile my proposed transcript is on the way for y'all contributions as well.
Thank you very much.
Any one you choose is not a big deal. I will suggest choosing self since you have assistanship and some funds.

Well, someone went today at Abuja Embassy with full funding in Phd and was refused. From the transcript I can't see anything wrong. So it's not always rosy for PhD if you meet the wrong/angry V.O.

Just to chip in about cost. My boy applied and was given admission to Rochester uni and another one.

I sat down and considered the cost for the four years and honestly, was not very sure. . . Lol cheesy
Hes not my biological son so i honestly dunno IF i will be able and willing to cough out over $10 grand per year for him. We finally picked the second uni (Stonybrook)

Long story short: Getting in is easy, staying put is the "bullseye"

GA is not a loan.
It is a current assets.
Also having multiple bank statements shows more funding options.
Which limits the burden on a single individual.

#mythought.
This is not true. Lack of finance resulted in multiple statement of accounts

Straight denial if a V.O knows you have the bolded and you are going for an associate degree.

GOD IS FAITHFULL!!!
I'm a silent reader here. In fact Just started following this thread 4 days ago. My interview was yesterday morning.

Below is my transcript: **it's long o.
She asks for my passport and I give her both passport and i20.
VO: so ur going to jhu. Did you get a scholarship or??
Me: no. My parents and aunt are funding.
She then asks for the financial documents and i gave her.
She asks for what my parents do while going through them. Starting with my dad's.
VO: he didn't have much in the account initially.
Then she scans it through to the end and says ok.
VO: How much do you have?
This threw me off balance as I wasn't expecting this kind of question since I'm not sponsoring myself.
Me: emm, I have a car that costs about... **she interrupts
VO: no how much do you have in the bank
Me: about 600k
Wasn't sure whether to mention a very high amount or lower. Didn't know which would favor me.
VO: when was the last time you went to the US
Me: last year
VO: what did you go there for
Me: went to check out some of the schools i wanted to apply to like Emory and uc Berkeley.
This is actually true. Including for vacation though. Didn't mention that.
VO: so were you accepted by those schools
Me: yes
VO: really
Me: yes
Wanted to bring out the acceptance letters then she said never mind.
VO: which other schools were you accepted into
Me: besides the above, Tulane
VO: tulane? Wow. **she nods
VO: so why jhu
Me: because besides the fact that it's currently the best school of Public Health in the world, it's program is shorter, then I'm at liberty to customize my degree the way I want it, especially for those of us whose interests don't fit precisely into their concentrations
VO: So what are those interests
Me: i love infectious diseases and... ** she interrupts smiling very heartily
VO: u love infectious diseases
Me: **smiling back over heartily. Yes and reproductive health
VO: so what will you do when you return
Me: I just explained something on health in Nigeria... Can't remember exactly.
Then about my documents, I couldn't hear her well, but what I could pick was
VO: I'm giving this to our fraudulent bla bla team. If anything fraudulent is found in the accounts you'd be barred from entering the US for life. Are you giving me the permission to go ahead?
Me: no problem. It's fine
VO: assuming there's no fraud in them, here
She gives me 2 white papers.
A smaller one with congratulations on your student visa bla bla bla
A bigger one with how to retrieve my passport.

See ehn it was just God. Someone was denied for Stanford University. Another for Boston. One for glaring health reasons. All denied.
Couldn't pay attention to more than these coz I was busy working on my nerves before my turn. I was shivering, my heart was racing and my teeth were cluttering.

I'm extremely grateful to God and to you nairalanders. God answered my prayers and You guys were very helpful. Thanks.
Congratulations!

That Stanford person that was denied, was he/she funded by the school. Cos this ivy league tuition fees are very expensive if you are not funded.

Figures are in numbers, with a sign like +2.346.673.00 , +500.00 , +1.567.889.00

Let’s leave the figures and talk about the words, cause with the words you will understand what the figures means and what it’s stands for.
Take it like that. You can also go with a translated copy together with the original copy

My follow F1 , should I go to embassy with a statement of account that is written in French?

I don’t want to translate it to English tho, cause I don’t want the VO to see it as Fraud.

Or should I go ahead to translate it to English?
What will the VO think if she/he finds out the bank statement is from a French country?

Remember the bank statement is coming from a French Country, and also the bank refused to translate it to English.

Thanks!
Is the figures in French too?

You are a business owner. So don't say CEO.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Time2win(m):
AgreatMan:
I don't know where u got that from, certainly not from my comments except u mixed my words.

A CEO and an Entrepreneur r two different things. An entrepreneur starts a business n absorb d gain or loss. If the business is successful (not necessarily profitable), they need more workers n major shareholders will appoint someone in the board of directors. A CEO's job is to oversea d entire business like d finance department, products development, HR, logistics n supply chain, legal etc n report to the board.

Now if u are calling yourself a CEO, it means you r overseeing a pretty big business and yes, u will be making quite some money. Uber is neck-deep in debt but it didn't affects their CEO's $45M paycheck in 2018.

Saying u r a CEO n saying u can't pay your own fees are two things that don't work together. Now, saying that in front of a VO who is probably cashing-out a lot more than is a terrible idea.

Yes, it is your business. Yes, u started it with your sweat n took all d risk. But u r a business owner or an an entrepreneur, not a CEO yet.
Clearly shows you don't know what a CEO is. Also you can't differentiate a big company and a small company, a business and a company. I won't say this again, it's not all CEOs that are rich enough to cough out 7m to 15m naira for USA tuition fees.

Brown2Green:
This is very valid from my point of view.
When the VO asks who's funding, they expect within their subconsciousness to hear 'myself' or 'myself and bla bla '.
Another assumption. Only few fund themselves for US education cos it's very expensive.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Time2win(m): 6:02pm On May 18, 2019
AgreatMan:
You can call yourself a CEO to a road side vendor, no probs. But if u call yourself a CEO to a VO who earns around 10M naira per year n u can't pay your own school fees, u will look a lot out of your mind.

How can I be making 10 or 20 times of your income and u r telling me that u r a CEO?

If u also say u CEO, where is d board of directors u reporting to?

I am a business owner. I own a startup. I own an agro business. These are decent n honest answers. U can't just use a word loosely especially to the wrong person.
Where did he mention he earns 10m naira yearly. You are just assuming. Two to three people can form a company, you don't know what the company is into. They may be rendering a service and maybe don't earn up to 4m naira yearly. Don't just assume that it's all CEOs that earn big. That statement doesnt hold water at all

Is this the only school u applied to? A school with less than 5k enrollment just doesn't cut it. Stop setting yourself up. Most of these private schools r an easy way to get screened out.

U also didn't write GMAT or TOEFL.

Also, u said u are a CEO but your uncle who is another CEO will pay your fees. What kind of a CEO can't pay his own school fees?

I am just been blunt here, no hard feelings.
The bolded doesn't hold water. So it's all CEOs that are rich? Common!

Admission comes first before the scholarship offer. Literally, all their admitted students receives some form of scholarship. Those you saw without scholarship will receive their scholarship offer after sometime of accepting the admission offer. I think the school uses the scholarship stuff to attract students.

My Interview on Monday for F1 visa in Lagos - Master program

Me. Good Morning

VO: Good Morning, pass me you I-20 and passport

VO: Why do you want to study Master in IT?

ME. Because IT rules the world and in line with my Bachelor Degree in Germany

VO. Why did you choose the University?

Me. The university is the leader in SAP graduate studies and prides itself as the North American leader in SAP certification. Graduates from this University are more SAP certified than the 3 highest Universities in US combined together.

Vo. I can see you have a valid b1/b2 visiting visa to the US, issued in January 2018 and you did not travel. Why?

Me. Then I was writing my bachelor thesis in Germany and wanted to visit for a conference in Texas as part of my research for the thesis but my thesis supervisor fixed a date that clashed with the date of the conference so there was no need to travel to US again.

Vo. I can see you are married

Me. Yes with 2 kids

Vo. Are you traveling with your family?

Me. No, am traveling alone

Vo. Who is sponsoring you

Me. Am sponsoring myself, I have a registered business doing well which is into logistics and road transportation and ticketing which I have employees working for me and also I am a share holder in a company in Nigeria which is into oil and gas where I receive income (profit shared) yearly as share holder of that company.

VO. Can I see your bank statement?

Me. Yes that’s my bank statement

Vo. Took time to check pages of the bank statement and I pointed out to him to check page 35 and see I receive money too as share holder of a company.

VO: what is your plan after studies?

ME. I plan to return back home to take up a job in SAP which I will be concentrating on in my studies. SAP skilled worker are lacking seriously in Nigeria as this is a new trending and disruptive IT technology in vogue and in high demand by almost all companies and getting those certified in this specialization are highly sought after here in my country.

VO: Your visa has been approved. He passed me the white paper indicating where to pick up my visa in 3 working days.

It was God
I was asked too many questions or questions like why US, how many Universities did you apply to, did you write any standardized test e.t.c because I actually wrote IELTS and applied to 3 schools but I wasn't asked.
Lots of home ties lol. You killed it
