Hello everyone, Please I got admission to Georgia institute of technology, I am currently trying to start the processing for my I20 and the person I found to give me the bank statements I need is my Boss because of the personal relationship I have with him. In filling the form, I want to say he is my uncle. However, I am worried that a red flag would be that how come I and my uncle work in the same consulting firm.

What do you think I should do? Please help me

Thank you very much and I will wait for your response.
So you and your uncle or dad can't work in shell company or in the military or in any other company. So your uncle can't employ you? You are giving yourself headache, there is no redflag here.

Thanks for your prompt response. It's actually MSc admission, but on their Certification of fund form, it's stated that one can come with dependents, that's why I explore the opportunity. I have provided financial statement (I also have partial scholarship & applied for Research assistants of which the program coordinator recommended me for the post, although not yet approved) that covers the 3 members of the family for a year. I have applied for I-20 form which i was messaged that have been mailed to my address to arrive on Tuesday.
I understand your position on this and sincerely appreciate your advice.
Now that I have commenced the process for the family, is it possible for me to halt their own process and continue with mine? How easy it is to invite them after I have gone there? I heard my financial statement will be verified (if i am in US) there before they can issue them visa.
Even though our plan is not to leave Nigeria same day if issued the visa (s), I am a bit confused on what to do now.

Your sincere advice please.
Hmmmm... you are going for MSc, it's going to be a tough one. Why are you going with your whole family? Do you have the funds to cater for them all? What is your wife currently doing and why do you want her to go with you. What will she be doing over there since she can't work? You need to ask yourself all this questions. Forget about future funds coming from your school since the Assistantship Position hasn't been approved. Work on what you have now. You can get the i20 for your dependant and attend alone cos plans can change, so it's not a biggie. Also you can inform your school to cancel the dependant i20 and issue only your own. Since you are going for MSc, my suggestion is to go alone. If it's PhD, it would have been better. If you feel you can convince the V.O, you can go with them.

Forget about taking your family for now cuz they are your home tie. VO will hardly approve your Visa if you go with your family .

And you should have a good response as to how your wife will cater for the kids on your absence.

As earlier mentioned, your wife can join you on visiting after some months.
This visa thing is subjective lol. The V.Os at U.S reasons differently atimes unlike the way we see it. I know three peeps that went with their family last year, they were all approved lol. Though I advise people to go alone and bring their family later. But if you feel you can convince them with your family, go with them. They may approve you and deny them.

Hello Nairalanders, I am very excited to join this thread. I just got admitted by Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey-Camden, US for the 2019 fall session. I have started the process of getting my I-20 and schedule interview for visa.
My questions go thus, I intend to go with my family (wife & a daughter), is it advisable to go with my family or go alone while they join later?
What are the possible questions and answers they might ask my wife?

Thanks
Congrats on your admission, Rutgers university is a good one. It's advisable you go alone and let them join you later. If you have the resources for all your family members, you all can go together and that's if you are going for a PhD program. We have seen testimonies of those that went together and were approved.

They will ask what why she wants to join you and what she will be doing over there. More questions will follow, depending on her answers.

Hello everyone, Please I got admission to gatech, I am currently trying to start the processing for my I20 and the person I found to give me the bank statements I need is my Boss because of the personal relationship I have with him. In filling the financial certification form, how best do you advice that I establish a relationship with him. Should I choose him as a family friend or as my Uncle. What would you advice is best for when I would appear at the embassy.

Also, I am worried about the timing cos we are already in may. Do you think if I am able to process in a week, I can still get an interview date at the embassy this month. Thank you all.

I am really new to all this. Please assist

Thank you very much and I will wait for your response.
If he is not sponsoring you under the company name as your boss, then you can use him as your uncle. Family friend won't fly at the embassy from my own view. You should ask yourself this question, Why will a family friend sponsor me and what does he stand to gain? A V.O will likely be thinking that way when you tell him/her a family friend is sponsoring me.

As for dates, it fluctuates. If your class is for fall 2019, then there are lots of slots to pick. You don't need to worry about that. Just get your i20 first.

Has there ever been a case of that?
Yes. Some schools put names of sponsor on i20.

My school requested for SOA of at least three(3) months before sending my I-20 but it has to be the last three months(most current three months).
For the visa part, please why do you want to shoot yourself, with your own gun, with your own bullet shocked shocked shocked
I wonder how he is shooting himself shocked. He can actually use 3months statement of account and get his visa. He should make sure it's a current SOA

Hello all, please I have a statement of account (SOA) for a period of 3months (Jan-Mar), as against the 6months rule I have been hearing. Can I use it to apply for I20 and Visa(scheduled for June)?.
Thanks.
Yes you can use it for your i20. You can print a new SOA in June to make it 5months before going for your visa interview.

Good afternoon everyone,
I am going for Fall 2019, I want to process my I-20 and I need a good advise on which school is best to choose.

I have been admitted to these schools with no GA,
Columbia University ($68k tuition)
University of Baltimore ($42k tuition), and
Salisbury University ($30k tuition).
However I was denied twice in January using University of Baltimore.

Cc @LagosismyHome, @Bracelum, @GboyegaD, @fairheart, and every guru here.
Can you afford Columbia university fees? It's an ivy league university and can easily get you a visa if funds are sufficient

Hello everyone, I am new here and this is my very first post on nairaland. How do I go about getting funding for a PhD? I already got admitted into a school in Texas but without funding, I was given a 1000$ scholarship by the department which qualifies me for in-state tuition, I am yet to get a RA/TA job. I didn't even know it was possible to get full funding as an international student, until I started reading from you all. I had 307 in GRE and 117 in Toefl. Is there anything I can do or is it too late for 2019. Thank you
Which school in Texas? It late though to get TA/RA position but not impossible. You can mail your department to know if they have TA/RA positions you can apply for.
