dguyindcorner: Elders in the house I salute. I want to ask if international students are allowed to study and work in Finland? If yes, what's the probability of getting work over there?
Thanks! Excerpt from University of Turku MailThinking of working in Turku part-time? It is possible, but please note that with little knowledge of the Finnish language the options are limited. Many of our students work in jobs not related to their studies, often in the hospitality or cleaning industries. The departments may have a few internships and research assistance positions, but these often go to second year students. So be prepared that finding a job may take a while and the first positions you find may not be in the field you are studying. |

Okeyogwo: Please friends I am about to request that my school change my sponsor which will also lead to processsing a new form I...20 for me.
The new sponsor being my aunt has about 13M+ in his account statement which is a personal account, while the school is requesting a minimum of 11M for international students.
My question is this, will my school offer me form i...20 with an account statement of 13M.
Secondly, on the other hand, a company has promised to offer me sponsorship and there account statement reads over 26M. My question then is which of this sponsor's financial documents do you advice me to go with considering the embassy interview that will also come up later after issuance of I..20. Thank you all as I expect responses from you all. They will send your i20 with that balance you have on your statement of account. Secondly a personal account is always better than a company account |

They need 116k nok payment for visa. considering my admission for the same petroleum geocience in texas is 30k usd a year then 20k for upkeep which is 50k and 20m in naira per year and for 2 years 40m. Best case scenario 30 to 35m cos I dont have funding/scholarship
If I study and do things right I hope to secure a job within that 1 year. As I am reading online Stavanger is the oil and gas exploration capital of europe and I hope things fall into place.
Are you currently in UIS? What's the deadline to pay the 116k Nok ? |

Scholastica16: LOL. Because that is the question the poster asked. If you like your guy's post it is within your right to but it does not make it the right answer. I am not twisting any logic. My explanation only makes your guy's own, pleonastic. I get it. That is your understanding and doesn't make it right or what the poster meant. Only the poster can tell what he actually meant. For me, i love the reply from bracelum, it augment what you said while you are saying bracelum got the question wrong. I won't agree with you on that. |

Scholastica16: Do you know that the capital of Somalia is Mogadishu? I have also made a correct statement as well but guess what: it does not answer your own post above. That is the difference between posting correct but extraneous information and answering the question put at you.
If the poster asked: will my low test scores affect my chances of getting an internship or a job? The answer will be yes, for some jobs. (I said it here before it started posting). But was that the question? No. The question was about low GRE scores and this person is wondering if it will be a stigma on him going forward.
My question to you is, how can something be a stigma to me if I can do without it? Let me ask a comparative question to show clarity. Will a low undergrad GPA affect my chances of getting into Harvard? The difference between the 2 questions is, whether Harvard accepts you or not, you are bound to include your undergrad GPA but for the former, you can make that application without even including the low GRE at all.
The implication is, the low GPA will definitely be a factor in their decision-making because they must of necessity see it, but the low GRE on the other hand does not because you can take it out of your application and replace it with something else.
So here is a slight re-enactment of the logic; Will my low GPA affect my chances of getting into grad school? Yes, it will because most schools have minimum requirements which they adhere strictly to and you must include it in your application....
Will my low GRE affect my chances of getting into grad school? No, because you can (apply to schools who do not require it, retake it, or submit another test score that is acceptable to them) so they would not even get to see it.
Synopsis, Can low test scores affect...yes they can for certain jobs that require it. Can low GRE affect, no it won't because you can submit something else. Test scores are compared to GPA here being fixtures for some jobs. GRE is not a fixture here because it can be replaced.
Jeez You are using logic and twisting the whole thing. Just like GRE twist simple mathematics and make it look like something else. This is exactly what you are doing now. Your answer is coming as if the poster is asking if low GRE score will be a stigma for getting a job after school. We all know GRE can be retaken and the poster is asking if low score affects once chances so as to know if he can retake it now that he has the chance. I love the explanation bracelum gave and it answers the guy's question well. Some consulting firm still request for it while some don't. |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Time2win(m): 10:17am On Mar 31, 2019 |
Scholastica16: I skimmed through and realized you are still asking yourself your own questions and answering your own questions. A recycle stream of hopelessness.
This is why people fail exams. Here is the poster's question:
The poster did not ask for test scores where your windy drivel would have sufficed. He did not ask for GMAT where you would have told him to try to retake it even after getting an admit. He asked for GRE.
I told him that his low GRE score will not affect his chances. Why? Because he has a viable alternative. He only needed the GRE to get an admit. Now that he has it, if he was applying for a role where his test scores were required he can simply take the GMAT to bolster his chances. The weak GRE how will it now limit him? Is he bound to include his GRE if he has a GMAT?
Now compare that to one's undergrad GPA. Even if you had 4.0 in MSc, 4.0 PhD, 4.0 MBA etc you will still be bound to tender your undergrad GPA. If that GPA was weak (2.5/4.0) for instance, then one could argue that it could affect their chances of getting a job that wanted an undergrad GPA of say > 3.5 simply because you do not have an alternative for it.
That is why when CuteRedd mentioned GMAT, I immediately pointed at the disparity between GMAT and GRE as the question was about GRE.
You are trying too hard to appear learned but you are coming off as contrived, attention-seeking and for the most part insipid. Don't you think you should first understand what the argument is about, then employ logical reasoning before trying to pass off information you gobbled up like the lemming that you are? Though your points are valid. Bracelum is still very right in all he said. The poster asked if low GRE affects ones chances in getting a job after graduation for those in business school. What Bracelum said is the right answer to it. He gave a comprehensive explanation on how low GRE can affect your chances of getting a job in some firm and the firms that doesn't need it. You both should just disagree to agree, we are one family. |

bracelum: Yes, each time I see your stewpid comments on this topic, I just get the urge to waste my time and give you a reply.
Again, you have changed the goalpost.
Your initial answer to the poster question was
As soon as you have been admitted into a University, your GRE score does not matter. It is just like asking what role UTME score plays in getting an internship or a job in Nigeria.
By making this statement, it clearly shows you have no idea of how recruitment works in business schools (Mr.Poster is a business student) and you have no idea that test scores are being requested for recruitment. But now, after realizing that consulting firms asks for test scores (GMAT and GRE), this is what you are now saying (via your last post)
If some firms ask for test scores you can take the GMAT for that very purpose... Now if your GRE score was toppest percentile and you feel there is no need to take the GMAT, you can provide them that score.
Now compare these two answers;
1. Your first answer suggests that GRE does not matter in recruiting. But now, your most recent answer is saying "Oh! you can write the GMAT in place of the GRE just for recruiting purposes or you can present a high GRE score if you already have it".
So, your most recent post is now acknowledging GRE as a factor for recruitment - a notion you earlier rejected.
Just see how stewpid you can sound when you try as much as possible to claim knowledge on things you don't know.
@Mr.OP and everyone else in his shoes: Since this is my last post on the topic, here is a summary of how the test score (GRE/GMAT) thing works;
1. If you're targeting elite consulting firms like MBB for traditional strategy consulting roles, your test score matters! GMAT or GRE (but GMAT is preferred). Test scores matter for investment banking recruitments too.
2. The higher you score on your test score (especially on quant), the higher your chances of landing those roles. For roles in US offices, you need to be in the very top percentile OR you need to have a very strong connect that will recommend you (but this works in minimal cases). For international offices, a low test score might be overlooked because not many B-schools students have the initial desire to work outside the US after graduation - therefore, the competition is low and since you are a foreign B-school student, you have more chances of landing an interview over the local candidates.
3. If you are recruiting for niche consulting roles such as HR consulting (Aon, Mercer), healthcare consulting (ZS Associates, Huron, McKinsey), data analytics consulting (McKinsey, Bain, Boston) , social impact consulting (Bridespan and those many Boston companies), tech consulting (Accenture, Deloitte) etc, they look more at your skills, work experience + passion and do not concern themselves with your test scores.
4. Tech firms and tech startups do not care about your test scores. For tech startups, your prior work experience is key.
5. For big 4 firms, they do not bother much by your work test sores. However, their consulting practice are not as elite as the top players in the game.
So, it depends on your career path, but if you are looking at consulting or investment banking, you should retake your GRE or take the GMAT (though I don't recommend this at this point cos it will be a new experience).
As for this Scholar dude (or whatever he is called), just learn to be talk ONLY on things you know. Gra gra no be knowledge - it only makes you dumber. When it comes to issues like this, me and you no be mate cos I sabi am pass you- go find your level! Nice write up. But seems like you have this scholastica16 in mind for long and have been looking for a way to pour out your vexation . There are better ways to correct someone though |
