Who understands how the corporate bond market works in Nigeria? Is it open to only institutional investors? Is there a secondary market for these bonds? If so how liquid is the market? Any upcoming bond issuance or prospectus of a recently issued corporate bond?

I will appreciate some information folks. Thanks.

In my personal development journey, I learned these lessons from a great mentor about The Seasons of Life. Hopefully it might inspire someone out here. Excuse the lengthy post

Life and business are like the changing seasons. That’s one of the best ways to illustrate life: it’s like the seasons that change. The second phrase is that You cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. Now with those two key phrases in mind, let’s turn to what I consider to be the four major lessons in life to learn. To also bring this home: Consider the ‘Winter Season’ as Bear Season and the ‘Spring Season’ as Bull Season.

1. The first lesson is this: learn how to handle the winters. They come regularly, right after autumn. Some are long, some are short, some are difficult, some are easy, but they always come right after autumn. That is never going to change.
There are all kinds of winters–the “winter” when you can’t figure it out, the “winter” when everything seems to go haywire. One writer called it “the winter of discontent.” There are economic winters, social winters, personal winters when your heart is smashed into a thousand pieces. Wintertime brings disappointment, and disappointment is common to all of us. So learn how to handle the winters.
You must learn how to handle the nights; they come right after days. You must learn how to handle difficulty; it always comes after opportunity. You must learn to handle recessions; they come right after expansions. You must learn how to handle bears; they come right after the bulls. That isn’t going to change.
The big question is, what do you do about winters? You can’t get rid of January simply by tearing it off the calendar. But here is what you can do: you can get stronger; you can get wiser; and you can get better. Let winter find you planning for the arrival of spring, not contemplating the errors of commission and omission of last year. Let winter find you with a joyful countenance and a happy heart... with a good word for all those around you; with confidence in the future, not apprehension; with appreciation of the past, not regret; and finally, with gratitude for your achievements, adversities, and uncertainties of life. The physically inactive season of winter is a time for adding to our storehouse of knowledge through continued education, which in truth does not mean learning things that we do not know, but in learning to behave as we do not now behave. Someone once said — “Don’t pray for things to be easier, rather, pray for more obstacles and more challenges, for it is out of these that man’s character and will to succeed are formed.” Nearly every success story that I am aware of began when the person first lay flat on his mental and financial back. In this condition, people usually become sufficiently disgusted to reach deep down inside and pull out talents, abilities, desire, and determination—the basic essentials required of anyone wishing for things to get better. It is in the face of adversity that things begin to change, and the “things” always change as a result of the personal change that takes place.

2. Here is the second major lesson in life: learn how to take advantage of the spring. Spring is opportunity. And spring always follows winter. Spring in stock market investment represents the 'Bull' season
What a great place for spring–right after winter. If you were going to put it somewhere, that would be the place to put it. God is a genius.
Days follow nights. Opportunity follows difficulty. Expansion follows recession. Bulls follow Bears. And this all happens with regularity. You can count on it.
However, the mere arrival of spring is no sign that things are going to look good in the fall. You must do something with the spring. In fact, everyone has to get good at one of two things: planting in the spring or begging in the fall. So take advantage of the day, take advantage of the opportunity, and read every book you can get your hands on to learn how to take advantage of the spring.
Get busy quickly on your springs, your opportunities. There are just a handful of springs that have been handed to each of us. Life is brief, even at its longest. Whatever you are going to do with your life, get at it. Don’t just let the seasons pass by...to be continued

Again...another myth about corelation between ramadan and stock price. I will believe when you show me the facts. A simple graph showing NSE Index Movt. in last five ramadan will convince me.

Chances are that those who didnt take opportunity of it the last time prices were at that level, still wont when next it happens. But as for happening, you can be sure that within the next 5 years, almost all the quoted companies will at one stage or the other fall reasonably below their current price levels due to inter or external factors or a combination of both.

It was not necessarily a scam. Everything to point to current performance is in past accounts. Its just people looking at tell tale signs and refusing to see it. Go back and look at that Bank's financials for the past 3 years (including quarterly statements). Non Performing Loans ratio is rising, loan impairment charges in past two years average N56 billion, earning per share has been dropping for consecutive quarters etc. Anybody who sees this will know something is wrong and can only rely on the general bull to drive this share price up.

No be scam my brother. Its about looking and not seeing.

Well and Good but there is no new insight there. This year alone it has closed at N3.05 on Feb 7 and N2.77 on April 4. Its the behaviour of the stock for now. It will still drop and go up again.

So why would you be in the market if market is flat for 18 months?

This is to disprove a common belief that is not backed by facts and not to make a recommendation. People have different reasons for timing their entry into the market. Many have patient capital and are not tuned into short term investment horizon or trader/chartist approach. who can predict what happens after 12 - 18 months? The truth is that nobody can.

Following the facts, for those who expect a bear market to pervade very soon because of 2019 election, there is no fact to back this up. I have read two reports from two leading brokerage houses trying to prove this but the facts as shown on their graphs do not support this. Right from 1998, there has been no bear market in a year preceding any general election in the country. At worse, the market has been flat. The only noticeable bearish trend was in 2014 and this coincided with the suspension of then CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido from office. The market bounced back in less than a month.

Since i am keenly interested in this topic, if you have research results to the contrary, please share to help us gain additional perspective.

Those in Eterna, how are you people enjoying the ride,, will it reach kiro 8 before the dividend qualification date, that's next week?

If you focus on Eterna dividend action alone you will miss further news/corporate action post qualification date. I cant remember who now, but somebody sold his Eterna a few weeks back at N6.10 and bought Diamond Bank. I had told him/her then that it was a perfect execution combo but done a little bit too early. Ride out whatever Eterna has to offer.

But of the truth, the result is poor.

Lol ...my brother no be lie. After all said and done it is a very poor result and i am sure the Execs in that place know that. No hiding place for them but if i understand the market a little, in less than a month everybody will have forgotten and moved on. No be today we begin see poor result. In some cases mentioned sef we no see any result and still active trading is going on and people are making money from up and down movement.

In summary #BusinessAsUsual.

Trust me...by this time next month, possibly before, Diamond Bank may be trading around opening price today for the following reasons

1. There will be those too stunned to believe this is happening and will either put in more buy orders or refuse to sell
2. There are those with infinite confidence in the bank and have become emotional about the investment
3. There are those that believe the bank is one of not more than 3 that are upfront about the true state of its loan book and as such the market has already priced that in...downside is limited
4. Many will be watching the action of the core investors and undecided if a shakeout is the overarching intention
5. Some will be too focused on upside to care. The market will decide everything. Afterall, this same share was trading around 80k less than 15 months ago and did rise to N3.47 a couple of months back.
6. Finally, the X factor

What are the effects of the current price of crude oil in the international market on petroleum marketing stocks?

Since Petrol price is regulated, annual subsidy budget is fixed in advance, and crude oil price is free to roam up and down, it will be a negative for petroleum marketing stocks.

They cant immediately transfer additional cost of importation, have to borrow more to import petroleum or buy from nnpc and incur higher interest expense for longer period especially when subsidy payment is delayed. Right now they are between a rock and a hard place and i am looking at Eterna and MRS who have year on year positive variance in profitability more closely.

They did....and its brewed here in Naija. During the conference call about 3 weeks ago, their MD said it took a while for New York to approve the local brew after several iterations using enhanced local raw materials.

Exactly. As at February 2018 they two times what is in their name in that financial report. Knowing Private equity companies, Union Global may soon sell off part of their stake to take profit. Atlas Mara who have not hidden intention to own and manage the bank may be interested in that stake.

I saw that and that's another form of share manipulation aka share price maintenance.

In 2016, free float was about 14.11% and same 2 foreign shareholders maintaining 85.89%.

Fast forward to 2017, free float reduced to 10.68% and portfolio of same 2 foreign shareholders advanced to 89.32%. They are buying up the shares and keeping up stability.

All the best to them shaaaa.

They want to corner the bank. One will soon offload to another and the cornering shall be complete.

Diamond Bank, just like Fidelity Bank, has a good prospect of becoming a good stock in the future. It might take time, but the management style and their products show they can pull through to become a sweet sweet stock. My view though.

True...I believe it will get worse before it gets better. No matter what 2017 result holds.
