Business / Can Someone's Inherit His Or Her Parent Debt? by Tohsynetita1: 9:09pm On Dec 13, 2023
During Corona virus, a man in my environment committed suicide because of a bank loan of 10 million. He does block making business and I think he failed due to some unforeseen circumstances.

After so many embarrassment by police to pay his debt and also after the sale if his own built house. The debt was still left to be paid completely.
It was when the country was in tension of Corona that I heard he poisoned himself and died.
So, my question is "Can children inherit Parents debt?"
I ask because the remaining debt is left for the children.

Good day nairalanders. Please come to my rescue. I will be brief as possible. Please ignore any grammatical or spelling error.
I lost my job (teaching job) two months to my wedding. About 10-15 of us lost our job in this same school, because of the economy of the country. I couldn't get any job after then, so I decided that I will postpone my wedding because of this but everyone except my younger brother kicked against it including my wife. I continued with the wedding plan believing that everything will fall in place soon. This is three months after my wedding, still no job. My wife has tried a lot, she has a shop and she has been very helpful all these while and I use to appreciate her for that. But of recent she started behaving somehow, which shows that she is tired of the situation and I am also tired of the situation. My wife told me that she can no longer continue like this. I was surprised because this is the same woman that was so angry when I told her about my plan to postpone the wedding. To be honest with you people, she has tried, I must commend her.
On my own side, I have searched for job to no avail, both teaching and non teaching. I reside in Abuja, I and one of my friends have trekked on many occasions submitting my own CV. Yet no call for interview. I am a mathematics teacher, before my marriage, I can't submit my CV in three to four schools without getting any invite for interview from two or all of them. But it is the opposite now.
I tried to get capital to even start a poultry farm because I am also good at that, but I couldn't get any. My wife is already "threatening the marriage" asking me to bring money which she knows that I don't have. She told me that she regrets this marriage and just saying all sort of things. She knows that I am not lazy. Even to get labourer work on site is not easy. I will stop here.

I am sorry for bothering you with this long write up. You can say anything you want to say but I will appreciate it if you can help out with a job. I want to have my home back. Thank you.

Note: I studied engineering. I worked as a site engineer for like two years before going into teaching.

it's so disheartening, what I can do for you is to teach you some farming and export for free, if I mean farming, I don't mean your regular planting of maize, cassava etc. But any of the following:
sunflower farming, castor farming, mushroom farming, jathropha farming, BSF Bio soldier flies. it's very economical to start. You need few funds.

Okay then, if you didn't make any false allegations towards anybody, then there is NO way a mod can ban you on the travel thread. He even usually warns people before banning them. I have been a member of NL since 2005 with an older account so I know this to be a fact. So in a few days, you'll be free to post on the travel section again.

Second, can I also have the link to the guy who sells the pumping machine you talked about here on this thread?

Last but not least, how are you going with the mushroom export? Do you source from producers in Nigeria and export abroad?

Was banned for "Derailing post"

I have Nigeria buyers but I don't mind if I get abroad likewise.

one thing people fail to undestand is the fact that herders dont like grazing thick forests because pf the choice of crops available there. On a plain grassland they know navigation is very easy and their animals are exposed to a wide variety of grass and crops. They hardly invade plantations like that
Try to fence your farm now, you can use some billards, bamboo, concrete, etc.

I am not trying to discourage you, I am only pushing you to do a detailed assessment of what you want if it is your dream to own a rubber farm. When your goals are SMART, they become achievable. That means you can see it, feel it and achieve it. 7years is a long period of waiting hence you have to be thorough with your calculations and analysis.... between 2018-2022, I have invested about 27million in Agriculture I did not buy land because I was gifted lots of family land. There was never a year the business made more than 2million after deducting all expenses ( including paying myself and the workers). I had to gift the business to my parents and focus on more important things.
Where's the land? if I can get few portion to borrow, I will be grateful. You invested 27million and you don't make more than 2 million yearly. All this are the signs of poor maintenance, not doing right crops, poor soil, Do you know that ordinary castor seeds of a kg sell about 6k for planting, and 5kg will do an hectares. At harvest, an hectares can give a tonne or more or less but around 800kg to 1100kg , a tonne is around 2 million naira, this is something that will harvest 4 times in a year. 4 times in a year gives it around 8 million naira. Just for a hectare. For castor seeds the 2nd harvest will be like times 3 of the first harvest, the 3rd will be like times 2 of the 2nd harvest depending on your management. With castor seeds, if you have a hectare, you can became a millionaire in a year. just one hectares . The rest goes on, sunflower, coconut, plantain, cashew, cocoa, plantain, palm. Those crops have less probability of having issue and maintenance isn't everyday. Cocoa remains the highest export Nigeria has every year. And you dey talk say you dey get 2 million after investment of 27 million. There was something I saw on agriculture group here last week, the post was about 1000 tonne of cocoa needed. Imagine the type of land that will produce such. So, it's either your management is very poor, or land is very costly or you plant less return crops.

I think you should clearly define your approach, the snail and mushroom you want to do in your house, is it for commercial purposes or just want to plant, rear and eat?
Anyhow, 1000 piece of snail can fill a space of around 5000 litres. Do you believe that 1000 was sold 2million naira some days ago.

Half baked business idea here

Other factors must be considered. Farming in Nigeria is becoming one of the most risky jobs cos of Fulanis herdsmen who doubled as kidnapping Bandits.
Na laziness, inexposure, dey do you, there are so many things you can even do in your house which doesn't require you going into any bush. But, whenever someone give idea, na for you people to rubbish am.

Wait till you have 5 million. All these analysis na because you never see 5m.

When 5m enter your hand, that's when you'll start feeling as if everybody wants to kidnap you, then you'd start considering how the government can move into your plot with caterpillars in 6 months time or how killer herdsmen or bandits would turn your plantation into their camp..
Just wait till you have the 5m.
We aren't the same now, don't use your way of life to judge others. Am planning a Farming by April next year, and have gotten all I need already. just waiting till that time. Don't think the way you behave is how others do.

Nah who get money dey japa

Besides if I have 5million now, i will just buy land upto 2 to 3 hectares plant rubber tree in 7years i will.be making 1.5m monthly from the produce for minimum 25years and max 35years if well managed. Better than going abroad to uncertainty
rubber is even too long on maturity, you can do watermelon that mature in 2 months, an acre should give you almost a million naira. There are so many crops you can do in few months. You can do castor seeds, sunflower seeds, green pepper, veggies, cucumber, ugwu, mushroom, snails. A kg of castor seeds currently is around 2k, An hectares should give like a tonne after 3 months, a tonne is around 2 million naira, after the first harvest, 2nd harvest multiply by 3 of the first harvest depending on management and GAP.

Lolz, farming in naija is for old retired men doing it as a hobby.
In my early 30s, I did farming and it burnt my hands, almost turned me to an old man. My paddy that left his manageral level in a multinational to go into large scale farming, I did not know how to warn him let it not look as if na bad belle. Today, that guy despite investing billions, if you see him? He has aged 20 years! When ever he comes to town, he must spend few days in hospital, white hair all over and skinny. If not for his firearm, bros would have been dead. Twice all his Togo workers fled, yes Togo because Nigerians are scared of working there due to heardsmen attack so my paddy has to bring in novice togolease. When they too saw the danger, they japa! My guy sleeps in the bush at night, not the farm house, why, so he will not be ambushed! He changes spot every night.
Cost of diesel nko, to run farm equipment or transportation, which farmer can afford 1 liter at 1200,1300? What are you planting?
Go and read about that young great Yoruba guy, rotimi that had one of the biggest rice farms in naija, somewhere up north. He was the toast of the media few years ago.
It was sweet at thee beginning;

7 years later, eye don clear. Imagine the debt this guy must be in.

My bloda, plant in your backyard, farm for leisure, have some chicken in your garden or pen, grown some goats, pigs etc.
But to say you take loan, invest your capital, savings, pension etc into farming hoping to cashout or make a living? My brother, you are on your own, as edo man will say "na die you de" lol.

He can do less stressful farming now, no be all farming is stressful. Na him go for stressful one.
