Abuja - The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) said on Thursday in Abuja that there was no going back on its plan to hire a foreign technical director for the national teams. Mr Emaka Inyama, a board member and Chairman of NFA Media and Publicity Committee, said there had not been any rebuttal to the arrangement since Musa Amadu, the General Secretary of the NFA, disclosed the plan in 2012. Inyama, who was fielding questions from journalists at news conference, said that the idea was to have a template for football development in the country. “There has not been any rebuttal since the general secretary said so; so, we are going ahead with the plan. “What we have always said is that there is a need for us to develop a structure and a template for football development in this country. “That is the beauty of a technical director. He doesn’t coach the teams but he will be able to say this is the mode of scouting, equipment and so on. “Every federation in the world has it; even at club level, they do it (employ technical director) and I don’t think there is anything wrong with it,’’ Inyama said. The NFA board member, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian National League (NNL), said there was no need for the hues and cries by Nigerians on the matter, as it would not interfere with the job of any coach. On Keshi’s resignation saga, Inyama explained that his job as the Super Eagles’ Head Coach was intact. “The programme we gave to you was submitted by Keshi, if we have plans to do away with him, we will not ask him to submit his programme for 2014 and the World Cup. “If Keshi was to go, will you pay him ahead to motivate him without holding back? “If there are issues, can’t they be resolved. Should they be a national issue after we won the trophy? According to him, the NFA should be commended for the feat achieved by the Super Eagles’ rather than being criticised. Inyama, however, advised Nigerians to criticise the board constructively, adding that the Eagles’ excelled in South Africa because of the enabling environment provided by the NFA for it to succeed. Keshi has expressed concern over the plan by the NFA to hire a foreign technical director for the national team. There are also fears that the foreigner can usurp the job of the coach. President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday charged the Super Eagles to not only ensure that Nigeria qualifies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil but to play in the final of the competition. The President made the charge at the formal presentation of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations trophy to members of the Federal Executive Council by the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, President Jonathan also announced a donation of N5Million naira to the supporters club for their dogged support of the national team. Speaking on his dream for the 2014 World Cup, President Jonathan said since the Super Eagles had come this far, they must ensure that they not only qualify for the competition but play in the final. ”I want to thank the Minister of Sports and the of course, the NFF which has always been associated with a lot of stories for this feat. If you had lost, you would have been humiliated. ”I know that it is challenging to manage a team. We will continue to praise and encourage the boys and charge them to ensure they qualify for the World Cup and get to the final,” the President said repeatedly. Announcing a N5m donation for the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, the number one citizen said, “We also commend the supporters’ club. This really escaped me yesterday (on Tuesday) when we were announcing gifts for the players. ”Government will give the club N5m to encourage them. It is not easy supporting a team, be singing and dancing even when it seems the team is not winning. We need to encourage them” the president said. While presenting the cup to the federal Executive Council, the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the victory of the Super Eagles was a vindication that God answers prayers. ”We can conveniently say that God has answered our prayers after 19 years of waiting. With the winning, the mood of the country has changed. God rewarded the President’s passion and commitment because before now, past administrations tried without success. God ordained it that this will happen during your (Jonathan’s) time,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/2014-world-cup-jonathan-sets-target-for-eagles/ |

Won't believe there were conscriptions into the nigerian army during the civil war cos i think the soldiers were sufficient enough to force the region back to the the geographical circuit of Nigeria. Things are needed to be done to this cos they risked their life to make the country stand and that was their major assignment unlike the football players that still have a personal assignments with their clubs. |

valentine day is just very special to me cos when i was in my early teenage(13/14), i had this very pretty gurl that we always did follow ourselves like the fan blades in the end of the term's school report card. We did go home together in her mum's car anytime after the end of the term or mid term holiday as a border. Her mum worked in our school so very easy for her to convey us home. We were very found of each other that we did everything in common without allowing any of our classmates to interfere, though restricted by the different hostels we stayed. I discovered that i started developing the affection, love! u said? I dont know o cos i was still immature to understand what it was then. Later my elder brothers noticing our intimacy started propagating the effontery to ask her out in me. But the liver wasn't there. My brothers had been talking about feb 14 as a valentine day, a day to show ur loved ones that you love them. Fortunately, we had a mid term holiday during that valentine and it was even on saturday. Like it had always been, i went to her house to play with her on that val day. As we were talking, we heard the radio talking about the valentine, we changed the topic of our discussion to the valentine. Later i asked her who was her valentine and she paused for a while and mentioned my name. I asked again to ascertain what i heard and she repeated it. Was very glad is an understatement. I told her that i'm coming, I rushed down home. Fortunately, i met my naughty bros and told them. They asked me for my response and i said nothing. One of them laced me a dirty slap and said don't be slack, 'every opportunity lost can never be regained'. Immediately he sent me back to tell her she is also my val. It was like heaven would fall down on me when i went back to see her. Alas i said 'U too are my val' stammering and about to run away. She called me back and asked if i was serious. In my mind, i was thinking brother Peter(my brother that sent me back) had put me to my doom today. But the gurl just said she loves me. I stood still like a lake. And since then, we became gf and bf. Everytime i remember val, i always recall that nostalgic scene, slap, the brothers and 'every opportunity lost can never be regained'. |
Ode Omu and Osogbo are two different geographical locations in osun state. Ode Omu is a settlement belonging to Gbogan. Armed(equipped with weapons) robbers and arm(hand) robbers nowadays sha! What is the economy of Ode Omu that armed robbers will cart away about #11million? Let's be sincere, the manager shouldn't be trusted in this matter though the armed robbers robbed the bank but can't be that huge amount of money in Ode Omu. |

Barely a day after President Goodluck Jonathan doled out gifts and awards to the Super Eagles for the superlative performance that fetched the country the African Cup of Nations at the just concluded tournament in South Africa, the President Wenesday morning dispensed with another N5 million for the members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club. The cash reward was announced before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) inside the Council Chambers of the presidential Villa. The president also formally presented the trophy to the August body. The camaraderie of Tuesday night’s reception for the victorious Super Eagles was rekindled as the trophy passed from hand to hand inside the chamber, thereby availing many of the ministers the opportunity to physically touch the coveted trophy and even take pictures with it. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/afcon-jonathan-gingers-supporters-club-with-n5m/139393/ |
Seven hundred and twenty nine monarchs in Abia State, yesterday, stormed Abia State Government House, Umuahia, appealing to the Governor, Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji to save them from the evil grip of members of Abia State House of Assembly, who were poised to fleece them of N72.9 million, as fee for verification of their autonomous communities. Led by their Chairman, Eze John Onuoha Akaliro, the traditional rulers who besieged Government House in their full regalia decried that the lawmakers sent them forms for their autonomous communities and asked them to return same with the sum of N100,000, an exercise which they paid just N40,000 to do two years ago. He said further that the state had 729 autonomous communities and that if the sum of N100,000 was multiplied with the number of autonomous communities in the state, it would amount to N72.9 million, which was too much an amount to fleece traditional rulers of. He said it was for that reason that they had come to appeal to the state governor, Chief Theodore Orji to save them from the evil grip of the state House of Assembly. According to him, the state legislators had asked them to pick up forms, which they want to use to verify the authenticity of the various autonomous communities and such forms should be returned with the sum of N100,000 each traditional ruler and community. He decried the imposition, describing it as illegal and sought Governor Orji’s intervention on the matter . The royal fathers looked the governor in the face and said: “You are the only person we can come to for protection and we want you to save us, Sir from the hands of the state lawmakers, as it is unrealistic for verification of our communities to be done with such large sum of money. :The same verification exercise was carried out two years ago and we returned the same form with the sum of N40,000 and we are wondering why the legislators should be milking us dry,” the monarchs lamented. Eze Akaliro told Governor Orji that February 19, 2013 had been fixed by the lawmakers as deadline for the return of the forms with the levies, stressing that they were finding it difficult to source for the sum of N00,000 with which to return the forms. They appealed to the governor to prevail on the lawmakers to restore the five percent monthly stipends accruable to them, which the legislators had earlier slashed to two percent. In his response, Orji denied knowledge of the said levy, explaining that all three arms of government were independent of one another, even as they worked towards achieving one goal for the good of the state and its people. He, however, said he would investigate the allegation to determine the real motive of the lawmakers and pleaded with the royal fathers to maintain their cool until he met with the leadership of the House. “I don’t think they will start hatching plans that will jeopardize your interest because they are all from your autonomous communities and they are your subjects despite being House of Assembly members.” When contacted, Deputy Speaker and House Committee Chairman on Information, Alwell Asiforo Okere, denied the allegation, saying no autonomous community was asked to pay any levy but to fill the forms and return them” “I think this issue has been resolved. They should fill and return the forms to the appropriate office at the assembly complex and they are not expected to return the forms with any amount of money”, Okere said. highest biddder takes the bride. ACN don outsmart the PDP in MTN like the PDP outsmartted the ACN in INEC. Sorry PDP, try again! |
actually thought David mark was talking about african politics and diplomacy when i saw the topic. But got to realise he was just talking about other african countries' preference for burkina faso to Nigeria for the coveted trophy. It is a normal thing base on the fact that burkina faso was an underdog in the tournament and had never reached the final before. Also not really involved in any diplomatic row with almost all african countries. |

*Keshi gets N10m, conferred with CON *Assistant coaches, players get N5m each , conferred with OON, MON By Ben Agande, Abuja. President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday night conferred on members of the victorious Super Eagles national Honours for their feat in winning the African Cup of Nations, nineteen years after Nigeria attained that feat. Announcing the national honors, President Jonathan conferred Coach Stephen Keshi with the honour of Commander of the order of Niger (CON) while the assistant coaches and captain of the team, Joseph Yobo were conferred with Officer of the Order of Niger (OON). Other members of the team were conferred with Members of the Order of Niger, (MON). The President who announced cash donations from other Nigerians including $1million from Mike Adenuga (Jnr) to the players and $200,000 to Stephen Keshi while Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote donated five million naira to each of the players. Other cash donations announced by President Jonathan include $500,000 each from Emeka Ofor, Jim Ovia and Tony Elumelu. President Jonathan told members of the team that their victory in South Africa has, “put a spring in our steps, golden smiles on our lips and has indicated that Nigeria is a land of opportunities. “Not many people believe you could win. Inspite of the skepticism, there was no despair. “Your victory is a good indication that there is victory for us as we work hard to transform Nigeria. We will continue to give sports its pride of place. The major lesson of your victory is that no matter the number of people who doubt you, never doubt yourself”. For coach Stephen Keshi the president told him ” you have my full support” adding that the “qualification of the team for the 2014 world cup in Brasil is your next agenda and you must not fail”. The president emphasised that the feat achieved by the team was an indication that “we must not let our differences define us” noting that whether it was “moses or Musa, Chistopher of Mustapha” that scored, it did not matter to Nigerians. See more photos here In his speech, the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi said the victory of the Super eagles “is another moment of national rebirth. It is a breath of fresh air. As we celebrate, we are not unmindful of the responsibilities this bestow on us. We waited for nineteen years. We cannot wait for that long again. “We have won it and I congratulate the president. Winning this trophy is not destination. The sporting arena is complex. We should put all the years of rancour and acrimony behind us and stop creating problems where non exist. The victory has shown that with determination and unity of purpose, we can achieve” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/afcon-super-eagles-player-get-cash-national-awards/ |
