With the scathing barbs from some Niger Delta leaders, agitators and groups targeted at President Goodluck Jonathan in the recent past, a powerful group from the region will meet tomorrow in Lagos to firm up a regional position for the president. At the meeting, many key political office holders, leaders of Niger Delta agitation groups, traditional leaders, elders and presidential insiders would feature. The planned meeting is a like a stop-gap measure by the Jonathan group to plug further leakage at his home front and also a sign that his camp is not taking for granted the drums of war the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) is beating over jailed leaders. The parley is expected to serve as fence-mending platform to ensure the seeming cracks in the support the president enjoyed are not sustained. In the past four months, Jonathan has been at the butt of horrendous attacks and flaks by former militant leader, Asari Dokubo who once was a staunch pillar of support for his president kinsman. He has in the course championed so many media attacks where he lacerated the government of President Jonathan and threatening to work against his ambition if he plans to run in 2015. While efforts were still underway to rein in Dokubo and his terrible attacks on his man in power, the South Africa court decision last week that found Gideon Okah guilty of terrorism compounded the case. The development where Okah was found guilty of terrorism in the attacks of October 1, 2010 that killed many Nigerians in Abuja flared nerves among his loyalists who have been threatening to resume hostilities in the Niger Delta region in retaliation. As if that was not enough, few days after Okah’s conviction, his collaborator, Edmund Ebiware who had been standing trial over the same bombing got life sentence in an Abuja court. The two incidents that have raised serious concerns on the future of peace in the region and the continued support for Jonathan gave birth to the meeting where the divergent sides would be rallied under one umbrella to re-invent unity and sustain the peace in the region and also secure home backing for Jonathan. The meeting would have key persons in the Jonathan camp and those fighting and attacking him in attendance to reconcile before the 2015 songs starts to ring. The meeting will be a good forum “to attempt a reconciliation of all feuding political blocs in the region as well as ex-militant leaders “Persons expected to attend include Chief E.K Clark, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas, Godsday Orubebe, Diezani Alison- Madueke, Oronto Douglas, Kingsley Kuku. Key leaders of former agitators including Tompolo, Dokubo-Asari, Boyloaf, Bibopiri Ajube (Shoot-at-Sight), Farah Dagogo, Ateke Tom and many others will be there,” our source said. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/cover/jonathan-ijaw-leaders-meet-over-mend-threats/ |
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State yesterday gave an assurance to Nigerians that ailing Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, who has been hospitalised in London since September 2012, would return to the country in the next two weeks. This is coming at a time Akpabio has promised to make public any activity of the Governors Forum, which negates the principles setting it up, even as he insisted that the forum would continue to work in harmony with the Federal Government. Akpabio visited Chime in a London hospital, in the company of Governors Gabriel Suswam and Chibuike Amaechi of Benue and Rivers states respectively. Speaking with airport correspondents on arrival from London, U nited Kingdom at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, Akpabio, who visited Chime in London hospital recently, declared that the ailing governor was now hale and hearty and capable of ruling the state upon his arrival. Akpabio admonished Nigerians to always trust their representatives and warned against playing politics with people’s health. His words: “I was part of the delegation that visited the governor in London and I brought a message of goodwill to His Excellency, the governor of Enugu State and like I said, we must learn to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. We should not play politics out of people’s health. “For me, I’m very grateful to God that Governor Chime has recovered fully and he would be assuming duties within the next 10 days . It’s not something that any Nigerian should be sad about; rather, we should be happy and we should pray that he’s returning to the country within 10 days from today and he would be in the Government House in Enugu on his seat as the governor of the state. I can confirm that because I had interactions with him and he’s in good health and he’s recovering. Once the doctors give him the go ahead, he will be in the office. You can quote me.” Speaking on the allegation that the Governors’ Forum was gradually becoming a cartel and working against the Federal Government and the Nigerian people, Akpabio, denied such claims, vowing that he would not be a party to any association or forum that would attempt to bring down President Goodluck Jonathan and his team, even as he described such allegation as baseless. He insisted that the Governors’ Forum should actually be a major collaborator with the Federal Government, maintaining that they are part and parcel of government, which should work together to uplift the living conditions of Nigerians. He said: “I will not be a party to anything that will attempt to pull down the government of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and that I’m assuring you. The allegation they are making is news to my ears. I’ve not been around the country for a while and I don’t know what is going on. Definitely, when I get in, I will observe things and if I should find out that the Governors’ Forum is what they are saying, you will hear me., I will shout out. “For now, I want to reassure Nigerians that the Governors’ Forum means well for the country; majority of us are behind Mr. President and we are determined to work together collectively so that we have one monopolistic democracy in Nigeria, the government that can deliver the dividends for the good of Nigeria. I think that is all that matters. There is no room for any acrimony. I will not be a party to any divisive tendency that will tend to turn the forum into a kind of a trade union. I will not support that.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/cover/chime-back-to-work-in-2-weeks-akpabio/ |

takin a look on the dilapidated structures of the primary and secondary schools in osun state, to be sincere, incacerated in the classes is suicidal and homicidal to the teachers and pupils. Reconstruction of the schools are a commendable and applauding projects which is worthy of emulation by the other administrators Most of these schools are structurally weak due to their age and the structures built by Oyinlola are just nonsence to say the least. But the issue i wouldn't subscribe to is merging of these schools. Imagine a pupil schooling very close to his home now having to trek a long distance to get to school all because of merging. |
I pity some landlocked regions agitating for the split of the nation without considering the effects it will have on their overpopulation and small landmass. Do they think we are still in the regional era(1960-1967) where we only have Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. The minor tribes have now realised they also have a father whose name they can bear and no more daft to bear any tribes surname. Perhaps, they think expansion will be the solution. No small country will allow infringement on their right not even UN will allow it. |
Imagine those bastards requesting for the cash to take care of their wounded mates, compensate the family of the deceased members. What about the lives they have wasted? what about the properties they've destroyed? Who is to compensate the families of those people and renovate the properties? Moreover who did they dialogue with, who will they disburse the amnesty to? And they claim they don't recognise the people behind Boko Haram. Who is deceiving who? |
nice paying them back in their own coin. |

what most people undestand is far lesser than what they don't understand in what is happening within the NFF circuit. During the preparation of any list going for any tournament representing Nigeria, there use to be a problem of who to be included in the list and who not to be included. As we all know that merit is not the major criteria used in the selection. Have we ever bothered asking the question 'why is team selection always the bone of contention between the NFF and the coach'? What has the function of the NFF has to do with influencing the decision of the coach concerning the list he did base on his constitutional duty. These money that are said to be dished out to the super eagles like a father xmas dishing out gift to the children is not to jeer the players up but to increase the share/percentage of the deal between each NFF official and his own slot of the team list. |
yorke1: In the era of Freedom of Information(FOI),i don't expect someone asking such a silly question.dont mind the silliness of my question bros! Just provide a source to justify your claim of tony aninih's justification of the road project's scandal. |

so this man still feels he is innocent, cos a suspect is innocent until proven guilty by the court of law! I think the best thing for our judicial system is to transfer every case to the foreign court like James Onanefe Ibori in English court, Henry Okah's case in South African court. |
yorke1: I believe you. He is not a corrupt man. People most times just follow what they hear without carrying out their own investigation or get to know the person before they pass judgement. Not all the money meant for the construction and renovation of roads were disbursed to him under OBJ tenure. Get your fact right!!what is the source of your fact? |
they want to shop for another chopper as if they all have something in different from corruption and deciet. |
well! A corrupt politician is limited to a man by virtue of political interest and career. the ranking is still justified and make sense base on academic excelence. But what are those schools' position when the geographical horizon is widened beyond Nigeria to African and even World? Observation:why are the polytechnics and colleges of education not being ranked or are they not part of the nigerian tertiary education system? |
…Police Affairs Committee, others get two weeks to submit report ABUJA—The Senate Thursday said it was worried that over one month after human bodies were found floating on Ezzu river in Anambra State, no community or family had come up with claims of missing members. To this end, the upper legislative chamber has commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the strange development, saying the inability of the country to unearth the cause of the incidence could adversely affect its reputation. The Senate, after an intense deliberation on the issue yesterday during its plenary, gave a marching order to its Committees on Police Affairs and Security and Intelligence to immediately carry out a thorough investigation into it and report the finding within two weeks. The motion on the issue, entitled “Strange dead bodies found in Ezzu River of Anambra State,” was sponsored by Senator Andy Uba, PDP, Anambra South. It will be recalled that over 35 dead bodies, mostly male, were discovered floating in the river in the early hours of Saturday, January 19, 2013,by some villagers of Amansea in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Senate President, David Mark, who spoke after many senators took time to contribute to the ugly development, expressed surprise, saying “until this moment, no explanation has been proffered as to the possible origin of the dead bodies, while the autopsy ordered by the governments of Anambra and Enugu States has yielded no report.” The senators regretted that the river, which was bounded between Anambra and Enugu states, was the only source of water for domestic and other uses for the people of the five communities of Anambra State. They also lamented that it had led to the people experiencing not only discomfort but also hardship All the senators contributed and condemned the development, saying the absence of explanations over the dead bodies found had adverse consequences on the reputation of the country. “I think it is a very serious thing that no community in this country has reported that they can’t find one person; not one community has made a report. Even if police is inefficient, even if security agencies are inefficient, the communities themselves or the families themselves, nobody can come to say we can’t find our son. It is very disturbing. “I think the bigger problem is not what happened but, where did these dead bodies come from? I think the river that is flowing, the dead bodies wouldn’t have just emerged from nowhere; they would have come from a certain place before they got to where they were eventually found. So it is a bit strange. “Even if they were in boat that capsized, who are they? So it is strange and we need to be very concerned about it. “In addition to that, of course the villagers naturally will be concerned and they may not want to go to the river anymore, but unless we are able to say who these people are, I think there’d be big problem for us in this country. And it is not just about security agencies alone, I think every community in this country now is involved,” Mark said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/senate-probes-ezzu-river-bodies-2/ |
BENIN — Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, yesterday, said funds released to his Ministry were grossly inadequate for the development of the region, stressing the need for the Federal Government to use crude oil revenues to significantly fund the ministry’s projects and programmes to avoid fresh crisis in the region. Godsday Orubebe Godsday Orubebe Orubebe, in a lecture titled The Challenge of Regional Development in Nigeria: Case of the Niger Delta, at the 7th Distinguished Faculty of Social Sciences Public Lecture, of University of Benin, lamented that despite its huge resources endowment, the Niger Delta region illustrates a paradox of poverty in the midst of abundant resources. He said his Ministry was making steady progress in implementing a number of projects in the region, which include the East-West Road, as the Federal Government alone cannot fund developmental projects in the region. He said: “To avoid a return to the pre-amnesty oil production level that resulted in militancy and youths restiveness, it is imperative to use crude oil revenues to significantly fund the ministry’s projects and programmes. It is important to sustain the existing peace and security in the region.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/orubebe-laments-inadequate-funding-for-n-delta-projects/ |
