Several outlets of popular Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in the United Kingdom were closed on Monday as a result of shortage of chicken.
The firm has over 900 outlets in the UK and over half of these stores were shut down as a result of delivery problems.
Until last Tuesday, KFC's chicken was delivered by South African-owned distribution group, Bidvest, which describes itself as “the leading supplier of logistical and supply chain solutions to the UK hospitality and restaurant sector.”
The new delivery company handling the job for KFC is now DHL.
“Due to operational issues, a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed.
“We are working with our partners, KFC and QSL, to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience,” DHL said in a statement.
But a spokesperson of KFC disclosed that it was unclear when the delivery problems would be rectified.
“Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible - but it's too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog,” the spokesperson said.
Almost 80 percent of KFC outlets are run on a franchise basis and the “franchisees will be seeking their own independent advice, but we're encouraging them to adopt this policy too,” the chain disclosed.
This policy is about a web page set up by KFC, where customers can find the nearest outlet still open for business.
According to the chain, in the restaurants it owns, staff on short-term contracts would be paid the average hours worked per day over the past 12 weeks, while those on salaries would be paid as normal.
Meanwhile, the management of KFC has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the shortage of chicken to its outlets.
“We've brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they've had a couple of teething problems - getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex.
“We won't compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu or shortened hours,” the firm posted on its Twitter page.
However, some customers have expressed their frustration over this, urging the company to quickly resolve the issue.

They forced him out of the driver’s seat and dragged him to the rear of the car. He was dispossessed of his phone, laptop and N45,000. The gang also stripped him naked and drove him to Ajah/Epe Road, where he was thrown out of the car.
Same day, the trio drove to Ikoyi area where they parked the stolen jeep beside another Prado jeep belonging to one Engr. Fidel Onwodi, who was with his wife buying suya.
They were ordered at gunpoint to sit at the rear as the gunmen drove off with them. However on the way, Onwudi’s wife jumped out of the moving car, while the robbers continued the journey to the Third Mainland Bridge, where they dropped off her husband.
They went away with Engr. Onwodi’s jeep, but abandoned the first one at Babatunde Cresent, Oniru area of Victoria Island, where it was recovered by operatives.

postbox: New global poll finds unemployment remains the main concern around the world…
The What Worries the World study finds most people across the participating 27 nations believe their country is on the wrong track — Brazil (83%), Mexico (82%), Italy (82%) and Hungary (76%) being the most anxious of nations. South Africa 27% (up 17 points) and Canada 57% (up 7 percentage points) have seen the biggest increases in optimism. In Britain, slightly more than average think the country is on the wrong track (65%) but this is a reduction of five points since December.
“What Worries the World” is a monthly online survey of adults aged under 65 in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Britain, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Peru, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United States.
It finds that most people across the 27 countries think that their country is on the wrong track (57% on average) But there are very wide-ranging differing scores across the world:
Once again, China and India remain as the countries most positive about their nation’s direction — 92% of Chinese people surveyed believe their country is going in the right direction as do 72% in India. South Korea (67%) is now the third most positive nation replacing Saudi Arabia (65%) who step out of the top three most optimistic nations — having occupied that position for the entirety of 2017.At the other end of the spectrum Brazilians, Mexicans and Italians are the most concerned about the direction taken by their country. Only 17% of Brazilians think their country is going in the right direction, followed by only 18% in both Mexico and Italy.Russia (42%) has seen the biggest falloff in positivity this month — with a reduction of 12 percentage points trailed by Saudi Arabia by a fall of eight percentage points. In Britain, there has been a five percent increase upturn amongst Britons (35%) who think the country is on the right track from the previous month.
The three major worries for global citizens are:
Unemployment (35%) with the highest levels of concern in South Korea (65%) and Italy (64%). Unemployment concern in Russia (55%) has seen the biggest increase with a rise of 24 points from the previous month (31%). Once again, Germans are least worried about the issue for the sixth consecutive month — with only 11% of Germans citing unemployment as a worry this month, a 2% fall from the previous month (13%).Financial / political corruption (34%) has become the second joint main global concern with South Africans once again most concerned (68%) followed by Malaysia — a new entry for What Worries the World — on (64%). Germany and Sweden (10%) are the countries least concerned.Poverty / social inequality (34%), joins as the second most common worry with the highest level of concern in Russia (58%) and Hungary (56%). The US (17%) once again has the lowest level of concern as it did for the whole of 2017.
Newshelm: This man was arrested this evening by the officials of the Nigerian Army with the assistance of RRS Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in a Toyota Bus for impersonating a Commondore of the Nigerian Navy.
TourismMan: High rate of unemployment in Nigeria is no longer a topic for debate as the obvious truth is seen in most families in the country especially those without connections and 'long legs'. The country undoubtedly has been hijacked by the political elites and men/women of substances in high places. These are the people who believe they own the country, therefore, they channel every good thing in the country to themselves including the topic at hand: employment leaving others, the poor and average citizens gasping for breathe for survival in the same country. What a country!
While those in the families of the political elites may not experience one unemployed individual in their immediate and extended family, others in the poor and average families have stockpile of family members unemployed or in some cases underemployed (but that is a topic for another day).
For example in my family, I would use both immediate and extended family to draw my points. Over 85-90% of my family members are currently unemployed. Most of them are graduates in different fields while some are not. These are people under the age of 45. Some graduated from tertiary institutions many years ago with nothing to engage on till now. This however has left me to wonder what the future holds especially for me as I am in university at the moment. God forbid, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where older ones are. I repeat, God forbid!!!
Figuratively, I can count 24 vibrant young men under the age 45 unemployed in my immediate and extended family. I can also count at least 20 women under this same age range (married or single) unemployed. Mind you, most of these people are graduates.
I know people would say, entrepreneur is the solution to the situation, but most of these people can't even have access to N100k to start something. How do they start then with nothing as capital in their hands? Secondly, if the said entrepreneur is that reliable, how come the political elites not encouraging their children and loved ones to subscribe to it but would rather secure gainful employments for them in high places and then resort to advising the poor and average citizens to embrace entrepreneur?
This thread can serve as a poll/platform for Nigerians to pour out the unemployment situations in their respective families for the world to see what is going on in the country called Nigeria. Who knows, these political elites may pause to have a rethink after reading the unfortunate situations going across the country.
Lastly, as a question, how is the unemployment situation in your family? What is the way forward?
Let's tell the world and chart a new course. We can't continue like this. Not at all!!!

OBALORLA: Were we crazy to have decided to Shoot Lagos at night? It wasn't my fault actually. Please allow me explain.
9:30pm 29th September 2017 I thought I had finally deciphered a new way of escaping Dami's 'wahala' when he barged into the partially lit sitting room without knocking. The buttons of his pink shirt weren't properly connected but he cared less as he spoke loudly (in his usual style) over the phone to someone I don't think I know. He had just returned from Gerald Road, Ikoyi, where he Joseph (our mutual friend) had invited him to the launch of Impact Hub.
I became angrier when he moved close to where I was lying, kicked me and jokingly said "omo better yeh ma sun..." I knew the implication of such song (especially when it comes from him) so I had no choice than to honour his invitation since he needed to just talk.
After all his reporting (which centered on how fantastic the people on the Island enjoy life), he concluded by clarifying that 'lekki people are learning work where Ikoyi peeps are".
I hailed another taxify with my phone when we got declined by the previous driver who probably couldn't take the risk. Tolu sounded excited while I gave him a brief of our plan. He arrived few minutes earlier than the app had predicted, I smiled as I took that for a good omen. He dug straight into our drill as he suggested we start from Banana Island so that we'd ply the Lekki bridge and then head towards 'Eko' bridge on our way back. We all decided to go neutral by freeing our minds of all prior experiences we might have had on the Island so we can enjoy every scene as they appear.
Falomo under bridge where we took our first shoot. We passed the Lagos motor boat club where Tolu hinted us that one of the major criteria of being a member is to own a yatch (which I somewhat found hard believing).
At this Juncture, I'd like to appreciate the Nigerian Police even though many of their officers aren't doing it the way it should be done. The policemen who accosted us yesterday were calm and going by the way they spoke, i could easily tell they are learned. they stopped us after noticing our car's rear number plate was missing, did some searching and after carefully explaining what happened to the missing plate, they advised we drive carefully while we enjoy the night.
We saw girls too ...loads of them were on display. Marshal's mouth was slightly opened (probably in lust lol) while Dami decided to play a bit as he told Tolu to park beside the duo who were obviously waiting for a call.
We all had a lengthy laugh as Tolu twisted the ignition and zoomed towards banana Island.
Banana Island On getting to main gate of banana island, the stern-looking security officers asked if we lived here and we nodded in affirmation (a plot we've mastered many seconds before getting to the gate). They lowered their guard while Tolu added pressure to the gas. The team broke no sweat.
After bae challenge on the link bridge we headed into lekki, paid toll of #250
The babes at admiralty were madder than we've ever seen them... We spent up to 30 minutes roaming aimlessly there and wondering why everything including the roads, whores and even the police on this part of the Island seems better than what we are used to on the mainland. Everything we saw was motivation.
I said to no one as the street lights flashed on my face while I smiled.
On our way back, we took few pictures on the Eko bridge before plunging back into the uninspiring atmosphere of the mainland.
I strongly suggest you try this out with your team or wait till I'd be doing my next tour.
Here are few but strong tips on wandering Lagos at night
-Free your mind: this will enable you absorb at a maximal level. -Take a private car (uber or taxify will be better): This will enable you do all you like while at it. there were many times when we'd stop abruptly to take pictures or ease ourselves. It is also safer. -Don't go alone: going with a partner is good but it's better with partners. i.e 3 or more. -Hold cash instead of relying on ATM: this is in case you'd like to buy something or maybe settle the cab driver. in our own case, we had visited 4 different machines and still couldn't get money to balance the driver. We ended up doing a cash transfer. -Be responsible: this means, dress well, talk politely to the police if you encounter one, you can drink, but don't misplace your home training.

nwakibie3: For a while now, economists and finance types who follow the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have been sounding a low intensity alarm about the CBN’s direct funding of the Nigerian government.
Between December 2013 and April 2017 for instance, the CBN’s “claims on the federal government” went from 678 billion naira to 6.5 trillion naira ($1.8 billion to $17.3 billion)—an almost 10-fold rise. These “claims” are made up of overdrafts, treasury bills, converted bonds and other such lending. For the most part, the issue has remained an obscure one that receives hardly any attention from local media.
But then, a couple of weeks ago, the CBN finally published the personal statements of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) members from the July meeting [PDF] and suddenly the alarm bells started ringing. The personal statement of Dr. Doyin Salami, a well-regarded member of the MPC noted for his straight talking, said the CBN was providing a “piggy-bank” service to the federal government. Specifically, he said [page 38]:
Perhaps the most challenging of the present characteristics of the economy in Nigeria is the adoption of a quantitative easing stance by the management of the Central Bank. Monetary data shows a sharp rise in the extent of CBN financing of the government deficit.
He quoted statistics that showed much of the rise in the CBN’s financing of the federal government have come since last December with its purchases of government bonds being the worst culprit with a 20-fold rise in 2017 alone. In effect, the CBN has been printing money to fund the government’s spending. The reason for this is, of course, clear—Nigeria’s government has not been able to recover in any meaningful way from the collapse in oil prices that has now entered its fourth year.
Salami goes on to explain a second order effect of increased government lending. To keep a lid on inflation, the CBN has to balance out the increased government lending with a tightening of the amount of cash banks could lend. It does this by raising the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of banks—effectively taking money out of circulation. Thus, the private sector is “crowded out” for the sake of the government.
That is, the government itself is making it practically impossible for the private sector to pay it the taxes it desperately needs by starving it of the credit it needs to grow. Completing the vicious cycle, the government must then borrow more to fund its spending. A few days ago, it announced plans to raise another $5.5 billion in Eurobonds which will inevitably raise its debt servicing costs.
A bigger problem with all of this is that it could very well be illegal. The CBN Act of 2007 in section 38(2) says [pdf]:
The total amount of such advances outstanding shall not at any time exceed five per cent of the previous year’s actual revenue of the Federal Government.
One can thus do a quick check to see if the CBN’s lending has broken the law. In the prospectus to the government’s $300 million Diaspora Bond sold in June, it disclosed to the London Stock Exchange that its revenues for 2016 were 5.3 trillion naira [pdf, page 158]. In other words, the CBN could only have legally advanced the government 265 billion naira. The CBN’s figures clearly show it has blown through this limit multiples times over.
But this last week, the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele felt obliged to respond to the controversy, stating “categorically” that the central bank has not over-funded Nigeria’s government. “The government had, on its own, decided that all its funds in banks, both local and foreign currencies, should be moved into the TSA at the CBN,” he said.
Emefiele added: “If a customer of a bank has fixed deposits in an account and needs some spontaneous financing to meet his obligations, his commercial bank can allow him overdraw his account temporarily. That is what is happening.”
Effectively, according to the governor, CBN was lending against the federal government’s deposits in its Treasury Single Account (TSA) with the CBN which currently stand at 5.2 trillion naira. The TSA is a mechanism whereby all cash resources of government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) are consolidated in a single account with the CBN. The policy had been half-heartedly implemented for several years but president Buhari finally expanded it to cover the entire government in 2015.
While it will be hard to legally question the CBN Governor’s explanation, it is worth understanding how the TSA works in practice using a personal example.
I recently had to donate to a government owned school in Nigeria for the purchase of some equipment for the students. I asked the school head to send me the school’s bank account details and they replied with a bank account that was clearly the personal bank account of the school’s head. I thought this was a red flag but they then explained why it had to be done that way.
Given that I wanted to make a charitable donation and the school desperately needed the funds, the school head explained that paying it into the school’s official bank account would mean the money was swept by the TSA mechanism to the CBN. The school would then need to go through the considerable bureaucracy of getting the funds back with no guarantee of success. Thus, to avoid this “problem”, they asked that I trust them with the funds by paying it into a private bank account.
This story illustrates the problem with the CBN Governor’s explanation—not all the funds in the TSA belong to the federal government but the CBN has effectively lent against all of it. If I had sent the donation to the school’s official bank account, it would have been counted as part of the balance of funds in the TSA and perhaps the CBN would have increased its funding to the government by a corresponding amount. But the money was only there till the school would have gotten it back for the original purpose for which it was donated.
This is not a distinction that is trivial–many government departments receive foreign funding to carry out projects, for example. The money is swept up into the TSA once received and then drawn down as costs are incurred often several months later. The large TSA balance is thus often subject to sizeable timing differences.
The TSA’s very survival is also threatened by political wrangling every other day. One of the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) before calling off their recent strike was for Universities to be excluded from the TSA regime. It was also the main reason they went on a warning strike last year. ASUU are by no means the only ones who are sworn enemies of the TSA. So far, the government has admirably stood its ground and refused to trade away TSA compliance. But as elections approach and various groups begin to make louder demands from a desperate government, it is not inconceivable that the TSA will be the sacrificial lamb that buys the government favors from one of its numerous clients.
These illustrate just how precarious Nigeria’s finances have become. The CBN is lending the federal government huge sums of money based on a suspicious interpretation of its banking mandate all constructed on ephemeral deposits.
Unlike Quantitative Easing by Federal Reserve and Bank of England that came with built-in mechanisms for their eventual unwinding, there is no clear-cut mechanism by which the CBN can roll back the expansion of its balance sheet.
Nigeria’s economy is by no means out of the woods. The government has just not been able to come to terms with the adjustments it needs to make in the face of stubbornly low oil prices. It has tried to soldier on, perhaps hoping that oil prices will rebound soon.
With growth in government revenues that can match the scale of the gap the CBN is currently funding all but impossible, it is time to end this CBN financing of the federal government before it drags the whole economy down with it.

Ovokoo: If you have been to a local Nigerian football field, you will know that there are different kinds of characters that you will come across. Here are the 10 types of people you will meet at a Nigerian football field.
The Emperors These are the people who act like they're the sponsors of the football match and make it their duty to determine how the team will be shared and what the rules will be.
The Super Stars These are the people that are known to be very good football players and they don't look as desperate when it's time for people to be picked because they know they'll probably be picked first.
The Left Overs These ones are perpetually unlucky as no team picks them. It may be because everyone knows that they're bad footballers or they look like they're bad due to their physique. If there's going to be what Nigerians call SET, they'll decide to join a new set but may never even be chosen.
The Pretenders These ones actually came to the field hoping to play football but in order not to be embarrassed, they'll act like they're not interested but hoping that a miracle will happen in their favour.
The Goal Keepers Nobody likes been a goal keeper on a Nigerian football field as goal keeping is usually left for the left overs. These people make it a duty right from the start to tell everyone that cares to listen that they want to be goal keepers because they know they will not be chosen for any other position.
The Complainers The complainers act like they've played for Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid at one point in their career and make it their duty to frustrate their fellow team mates who make the slightest mistake.
The Scared ones This group start getting scared from the moment they get to the field, to the moment they're chosen by a team till the moment a ball is passed to them. They are also scared of the complainers who are out to make their lives a living hell.
The Rough Riders They're not there to play football but to send someone to the hospital. if you notice them, better avoid them or you'll never play football in your life again.
The Fighters These people fight for sports. They come to football fields when they have run out of fights in their neighborhoods. If you dare mark them wrong or the referee blows again them, the match is officially over because they will fight till everybody decides to go home.
