Family › Re: Woman Gives Birth To Triplets After Losing 2 Children To Kidnappers (photo) by Tolubory(m): 10:32am On Mar 05, 2019 |
FlirtyGist: GistMore.com
More than two years after losing two children to suspected kidnappers, joy has returned to the family of Fatai and Suliat Azeez, who have welcomed a set of triplets at their home on Aiyepe Avenue in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State.
A crowd of residents and well-wishers thronged the house, on Monday, to catch a glimpse of the babies.
The newborns, two girls and a boy, were given birth to on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
In November 2016, Suliat, who had a hairdressing workshop in the Okokomaiko area, had taken a new apprentice, who gave her name as Grace.
Grace, whose real name is Gladys Austin, had been asked to resume after promising to bring a guarantor the following day.
However, she was said to have tricked Suliat’s two children, Kafayat (six) and Farouk (four), and allegedly disappeared with them that same day.
Efforts by the family to locate the children had proved abortive.
However, in March 2017, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for selling another child, identified as Oluwasemilore, to a ring of syndicates in Anambra, Abia and Enugu states.
Grace had been identified by Suliat and her neighbours during an identification parade by the police as the apprentice, who allegedly stole her children.
The suspect, however, denied abducting Suliat’s children, insisting that she did not know their whereabouts.
Frustrated, Suliat was said to have locked herself in the house and took a local insecticide, Sniper.
Despite being rescued, she attempted suicide a second time.
She was, however, resuscitated and taken to her village near Ibadan, Oyo State, for medical attention.
The woman, again, attempted suicide in her village but was rescued.
Suliat told PUNCH Metro that she spent seven months in the village to recover from the shock of the missing kids before returning to Lagos.
The 35-year-old, who spoke to our correspondent while tending to one of the newborn babies, said her family went through hell during the period.
She said she burst into tears of joy when she was told that she had been delivered of the triplets.
Suliat stated, “When the two children were kidnapped, we went to the SARS in Ikeja many times without any result. We also reported at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan. We did everything we were asked to do. The police later asked us to return that they had found the suspect; we also identified her. They kept pushing us back and forth. They collected N50,000 from my husband. Later, they said the case file was missing. We spent a lot of money.
“I thought it was all over for me. I thought that I had no reason to live again since the children, who should be my future, were no more.
“That was why I took Sniper. But because God said it was not over for me and my time to die had not come, I did not die.
“When I returned from the village in January, I was advised to go back to my shop to reduce my worry. But by the time I returned, the landlord started making trouble with me. He gave me quit notice and even beat me up.
“We were recovering from that when we got information that our landlord had sold the house we were staying and we had just renewed our rent. It appeared that we would be homeless until my husband got this small place we are now managing.
“As you can see, everywhere is empty. We have sold all our property, including land, during this period. But God decided to surprise me.”
Suliat said she did not know that she would be delivered of triplets until she got to the labour room.
She added, “After I was delivered of the first child, we expected the placenta to come out. But I was told that it was another baby. And while we expected another placenta, they told me that it was another baby again. When the nurses announced that I had had three children, tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. My husband also started crying.
“I still have the hope that God will complete my joy by returning my lost children. I solicit the prayers of Nigerians that wherever my children may be, they will be found.”
Suliat’s sister, Bilikisu Omokeji, who spoke amidst sobs, described God as ‘Alapadupe’ (the one who gives room for praise even in tragedy).
“When I got the news of her delivery around 6.30am, I laughed and cried at the same time. How wonderful is this God! Over two years ago, people joined us in walking the streets as we cried around in search of our lost children. And now this year, he has turned our sorrow to joy. God took the two children and I know, Insha Allah, they will return home,” Bilikisu stated.
The children’s father, Fatai, said the family was in need of funds.
He appealed to Nigerians to support him and his wife.
“While I hope to be reunited with my missing children someday, I have accepted my fate. I believe nothing happens to any man without God’s knowledge. And He has vindicated me with these bundles of joy, which I never expected,” he added.

damiloladuke: A man identified as Joshua Usulor who overstayed in a hotel in Lagos and killed a female lawyer to offset his bills, has been arrested by the Lagos State police command.
On January 26, the command received a report that one Feyitayo Obot, female, aged 34, was gruesomely murdered in her hotel room at Opebi, Ikeja by the man, who immediately absconded from the scene.
According to Lagos State police spokesman, Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), the victim’s body, which had multiple stab wounds on the abdominal region and a throat slit open with a sharp object, was recovered for autopsy.
“Although the suspect absconded after committing the crime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, charged the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti Yaba, DCP Yetunde Longe, to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the culprit is arrested and prosecuted.
“Painstaking investigation however led to the arrest of the suspect, Joshua Usulor, on February 28, at his hideout in Victoria Island, Lagos. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime. He said he had never met the deceased until the day he attacked her and that he was motivated to rob her to enable him offset his hotel bill having spent two days above the one-day he paid for.
“To execute his plans undetected, he claimed he sneaked into the deceased room to steal her money and her phones. The deceased struggled with him but was overpowered. He then stabbed her with a sharp knife on the stomach and used the same knife to slit her throat. Satisfied that the woman was dead, he made away with her phones and a cash sum of N26,000.
“Investigation revealed that the deceased was a lawyer who came to Lagos for a business meeting and lodged in a hotel at Opebi. The autopsy result revealed that the following factors led to the death of the victim: Exsanguination, which implies excessive loss of blood; Disruption of the left jugular vein and sharp force trauma.
“The suspect will be charged to court for murder. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice”, he said.

Health › Re: List Of Foods That Quicken The Ageing Process(photos) by Tolubory(m): 2:41pm On Feb 24, 2019 |
megist80: There some foods that are known to expedite Ageing and poor health conditions which you could easily avoid. Here’s what you can keep off of your diet if you want to be youthful and fit for as long as possible.
1. Sugar Back away from chocolates, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and that sugary food stuff that you can’t live without. Almost all nutrition experts swear by the fact that sugar causes aging. Sugar gets attached to the proteins in your bloodstream and forms advanced glycation end products (AGEs).
With the accumulation of AGEs, the surrounding proteins also get damaged in a chain-like manner. So the protein fibers that keep your skin tight and elastic also get affected, which in turn results in wrinkles and sagging skin. If the need for a smaller waistline hasn’t kept you away from sugar till date, maybe the love for healthy skin will.
2. Caffeine Bad news for all coffee lovers! Yes, perhaps for a lot of people, the morning doesn’t start without their daily dose of caffeine. But turns out, for that little zing, you shouldn’t be drinking coffee in excess. As coffee is diuretic, it dehydrates the body and raises the stress hormone cortisol (hormone linked with accelerated skin aging). Also, it dries out skin. All the coffee worshipers should cut down, if not completely give up on their daily dose of coffee.
3. Alcohol An occasional glass of beer or vodka shot won’t affect your skin really! But binge alcohol consumption is definitely going to ravage your youthful skin. Not just that, alcohol will cause premature aging of brain, loss of collagen, puffiness, premature wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Alcohol consumption basically dehydrates your body, leaving behind a chain of free radicals, which cause vasodilatation condition responsible for skin disorders like rosacea. It is primarily the amount of alcohol you consume that is going to determine the health of your skin.
4. Chips & Salty Food Not just sugar, you should also cut down on the salt intake as it is equally bad for your health. You might not add salt to your food, but you still can’t be sure about not consuming salt as most of the canned foods already come with preserved salt. Excess of salt causes the skin to dehydrate completely, thereby drying out the skin and making it appear puffy. It is best to check the labels when buying canned food, to make sure you aren’t getting too much salt in your diet.
5. Burgers & Fries While junk food won’t age you overnight, continuous indulgence in such diet can surely speed up aging. Though some fat is required per day i.e. about 75 grams, but excess can result in clogged blood vessels.
Burgers and fries can cause sticky artery walls and this stops the oxygenated blood from reaching all the important body organs. No oxygen means damaged skin cells, and they won’t repair on their own. Also, junk food can cause bodily inflammation and release of free radicals.
6. Soda All those addicted to sugar rush of soda and other sugary beverages are not just putting their health at risk (condition like type 2 diabetes), but also causing their skin to dry out and become flaky. Again, soda contains excessive sugar content that can result in glaciation (as discussed in point 1).
This in turn causes inflammation in the body and many chronic diseases like diabetes and dementia. Even diet pop is bad for your skin. Artificial sweeteners must be avoided as they contain chemicals and artificial colors; they can make your skin appear thinner.
7. Spicy Food Spicy food and peppers are extremely good for metabolism, but they can also aggravate acne-prone skin, particularly during menopause. As the blood vessels in your body are most active during that phase, spicy food dilutes them and that is why your skin appears less youthful at that time. However, you should not worry that much about indulging in spicy curry once in a while as only over- indulgence is going to result in permanent redness and puffy skin.
8. White Breads And Pastas Simple carbs such as pastas and white breads are known to have hypoglycemic index which is associated with premature aging. These compounds inflame the skin and raise insulin production. These carbs break down speedily and result in premature aging of skin.
They put you at the risk of type 2 diabetes, acne, and even skin inflammation. Alternatively, brown breads and brown rice do not break down easily, and that is why one can skin the aging process.

Travel › Re: How To Survive The Bus Life In Lagos, Nigeria by Tolubory(m): 11:30pm On Feb 18, 2019 |
[quote author=titiloyeblog post=75832734]The period of living in Lagos without a car might be one of the defining periods in your life. I mean it. I am totally not kidding. You would know this especially if you don’t have the money to spend on Uber or Taxify daily. Who would do that when you are going to be stuck in traffic for up to 3 hours to and fro? Okay, some people would; but not me. I’m just a corps member, not Dangote’s daughter, so I stick to danfo, BRT buses, or Okada (motorbikes).
Don’t ask me how the name danfo came to be. I have no idea myself. I just know that danfos are the yellow commercial mini-buses with two black lines on them and arguably the most popular means of transportation in Lagos City.
As I was saying, the bus life in Lagos would teach you persistence, perseverance, tolerance, humility and above all, give you the hustling spirit. So believe me when I say it is an experience that would mold your life forever. If you are new to Lagos, get out your pen and paper and start jotting. This course is DANFO 101.
1. HUSTLE
The first and most important rule of danfo is hustling. You must learn to hustle, especially if you are plying a route with limited buses at rush hour. You would have to keep home training in your pocket and push whoever you can to get a seat on the bus. However, in doing this you must hold your bag as tightly as you can. Some pickpockets have found this struggle to be the perfect opportunity to perform some disappearing magic on your valuable belongings.
Don’t be like the guy who struggled to get in the bus and when he finally put his hand in his pocket to pay, his wallet was gone. So it is safe to say that you have fully mastered the art of danfo hustling only when you are able to protect your belongings and still get a good spot on the bus. This brings me to the next point.
2. GOOD SEAT WINDOW SEAT
The inside of a danfo is a whole new world entirely. It is usually made up of three or four rows of wooden chairs with metal frames and each row is supposed to contain four people no matter how tight it is. You don’t want to be the person sandwiched between the fat, sweaty man trying to press his phone and the woman with three kids that only paid for one spot. I’ve been that person; so trust me when I say you don’t want to be that person. You should aim for a window seat. This would also isolate you from the smell of different things and bodies in the bus.
The front seat would be most preferable but if you aim for that and don’t get it, your chances of getting into the main bus are very slim. And let us not even talk about that seat between the front seat and the driver. Don’t ever sit there! Apart from it having no seat belt (like your life doesn’t matter), the driver would constantly hit your knees trying to use the gear and you would feel serious heat from the engine. So to clarify, aim for the front seat (the true front seat) or a window seat.
3. MOVE WITH CHANGE
To avoid commotion when using danfo, try your best to move with loose change. You would hear most conductors shouting already “ Wole pelu change e” (Enter with your change). Most of them hate the rigorous process of looking for change while some actually have change but like looking for trouble. So to save yourself from endless banter, move around with change for danfo purposes. When you don’t have change, try informing the conductor beforehand and he would most likely tell you to enter if it is not rush hour but if it is… See the next point!
4. SWITCH UP
Enter like that! Yes, I said it. Don’t be asking if there is change while others are hustling for a bus. My dear, if you don’t have change, enter with your 1000 NGN. Now what you need to do here is to switch up. You have to be able to go from 0 to 100 real quick. Being classy and posh would not work for you here.
You have to ask for your change quickly. Most conductors would tell you to hold on and give you your change later but some may act stubborn. You would have to become loud and razz in the banter that would ensue. Make statements that assert your streetness and how you would stop at nothing to get your change. Hopefully, they won’t realize it is all mouth and beat you up lol.
5. BE ATTENTIVE
While in a danfo, be very attentive. You can make use of your earpiece if the journey is a long distance but be sure to remove it from time to time to be aware of your environment. Hold your phone tightly if you are using it. Yes, they can snatch it through the window. Be wise, pay attention.
6. REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT
Whatever it is that is danfo business, keep repeating it. These bus conductors seem to have a lot on their mind so the only way to reinforce your needs is to keep repeating it. If you are to collect 350 NGN change, for example, keep repeating “350 change oo” till you get your change. Once you are two stops away from your bus stop, start repeating the stop to the conductor. You have to familiarize yourself with the phrase “O wa!!!” If you decide to use other variations like “There is!” or “I’m alighting” or “Stop here”, just know that you will be carried past your destination and to the last bus stop.
I hope you’ve been a little enlightened by this crash course on surviving the danfo life in Lagos. If you cannot cope with danfo, then you are in luck. I would give you my BRT crash course very soon so expect BRT 101. Till then, hold tight to your belongings and remember that a danfo is no place to be posh.
Thank you for reading! For my Lagos people, We want to hear from you. How do you move about in Lagos? What is your danfo story? Haha! I can’t wait to read comments. Gist away!

[quote author=Onyemadonald post=75369904]The non alcoholic beverage market is set to witness a revolution as the leading beverage company, Coca-Cola, fully acquires Chi limited.
President Coca-Cola West Africa, Business Unit, Peter Njonjo, said that Coca-Cola had earlier in January 29th 2016 acquired 40 per cent of Chi Ltd but has now completed the acquisition by taking over the remaining 60 per cent of Chi company on January 30th 2019.
He revealed this while making the announcement at Eko Hotels, Lagos, at a press briefing attended by top officials of Coca-Cola and Chi companies and other stake holders. While describing the acquisition as a testament to the company’s commitment to being a total beverage company to meet the changing tastes and needs of consumers, he said the acquisition was spurred by a shift in the taste and needs of consumers. He also said that a majority of the customers of Coca-Cola were of the lower income cadre, adding that Chi, on its part, was relevant to the Nigerian market, especially in terms of low prices.
“We will support the Chi management team in building on the company’s remarkable heritage and achievements while using the scale of the Coca-Cola system to replicate their success in more markets across Africa.” The visibly elated Njonjo noted that the acquisition was an investment of great interest because of how the brand has been built and made relevant in the Nigerian economy emphasising that it will be further grown into a global million dollar brand over the next 10 years, adding that towards that end, “Coca-Cola recently launched Hollandia yoghurt drink in South Africa.”
Responding to a question on if any products in the two companies may be collapsed, Njonjo said that none of the products in any of the companies will give way, rather “all the products will coexist. Already Chi sells high quality products so we shall continue with that quality and affordable pricing.” Continuing, he explained that the company Chi will still be left to operate with their staff. “We shall not interfere with the day-to-day running of the company but we shall maintain and grow it. Its products would be distributed internationally.”
“Our objective is to grow both the Chi and Hollandia units to a global multi-billion dollar brand.” Lending credence to what Njonjo said, Coca-Cola’s Public Affairs & Communications Director West Africa Business Unit, Clem Ugorji, reaffirmed that “This acquisition is a testament to how we will achieve our objectives and it is also a celebration of entrepreneurship.”
Speaking further, he said “We will not collapse the Chi brand or any of its products. Doing that will only make the company lose the attractiveness that it had before the acquisition. Rather, we will continue to grow both brands and employees in order to grow our customer base and strengthen our market share.”
Chi Limited was founded in Lagos in 1980. It produces juice under the Chivita brand, Caprisonne and value-added dairy under the Hollandia brand. In a September 2018 interview, Njonjo had said that the company’s drive to diversify its product range would give it some flexibility.
No Wonder, Hollandia yougurt is expensive. |
