Zet72: python (eke or eke atammili) is reverenced in my area ihiala although it's had to be seen around like b4 since Christian(believers) don't care ,they kill & harm the harmless creature it's had to be sported or seen moving around like when I was growing up.
oooh I remember how this serpent will craw into our house then, when I complain my dad will say "go & sleep the eke will leave anytime it feel like " but there's no way we(I & my brothers) can sleep while it's hiding somewhere in the room so what we does is , get some kerosene & pour the poor thing,it will run like powerbike & will never near our house again. NT without my dads knowledge

I have more to say especially about what kerosene does to the creature, but no time.
But how big can they be in your village, because for a python to be considered 'big' it must be at least 10 feet long with at least a diametre of about 15 inches! How do you feel when you see one, have you ever thought of touching one at all, trust me those creatures are wonderful when tamed!
in my village in orlu, it is forbidden to kill pythons too.though i havent asked my parents why.i remember in 1997 when i and my mum travelled for the burial of my grandad,i and my cousins saw a baby python.we just passed and when we later returned to that same spot it was gone !
My position has always been, places where animals are shown love they tend to be docile and friendlier unlike places where they are being killed, they tend to be shy and hostile, this is more established unlike the spirtual undertones of animals as objects of totemism!

Desola: stop being a mo.ron (though I know its too late)

Israel and Palestinia are in the middle east but does that make them the same people? Do they share the same culture, tradition and religion? Do they even share similar features?

Southern Nigeria is only but a geographical expression! We are not similar in all ramifications.

Imagine asking me to pledge allegiance to ibos and backward ijaws in the name of southern forking Nigeria when I have more in common with my kiths and kins in Kwara. So I should rather discard my Northern Yoruba brothers in the name of some stupid southern alliance? Ma amadioha shoot that stupi.d brain wen you take tink dat kain nonsense write gi'me!

Thank God your 'temperature has risen again to your usual madness level' where u dey sef on top of 'something' or 'something' on top of you wink You must be delusional and incoherent as usual to embrace your usual 'servitude spirits' to the Abokis! but you know those okrika pipus are animals now, my Yoruba broda. grin

p.s: you said 'southerner'. which region or ethnic stock is that? The last time i checked, there were Yorubas, Awusas and the animals. I never heard of the southerners. Please point me in their direction. biko nu.
south west, south east and south-south are all 'southerners' in my tomakint's dictionary, I don't know what 'Desola's dictionary' is saying, now you know their 'direction'!

Desola: What da frigging heck are you on about, okrika?

Who's talking about sending you packing when there is still much to be milked off you? Yes, yes, there is no doubt that i'd rather see okrikas on skewers than the beaf or goat meat but why do away with a working formula for now?

It is a given that you animals are a menace in Yorubaland but you are also useful animals so after weighing the probabilities, we decided that you are necessary animals for now for as long as we need you. When we are satisfied with the rewaRds, we would sif the chaff from the wheat. The undesirables would be sent back as we have started to do and those of you animals with little to give would be allowed to stay but made to pay through your noses. Every nation needs hard working migrants but you do know that if it were left to me, i'd rather we go to the market and pick and choose you lot instead of turkey or ram for xmas.

Im just saying.

The Radiation effects from our cell phones when placed close to combustible liquid like petrol could be very devastating and many souls have gone to the great beyond because of this. Nairalanders, please let's play safe as the year is gradually going to a close! Also remember that your cell phones can do a lot of damage to your brain on the long run if you are fond of placing it too tightly to your ears when receiving or making calls, why not use your ear-piece at will. Stay safe and a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance!

KenGali: Interesting. Men the shear number of shrines in Anambra state makes me shiver o!
I do not think the Idemiri people worship the python, rather its the Ide bi na Miri that they worship, either the river or the being that is believed to own the river, the python is just a signature manifestation of the deity.
What am curious about is why most streams in Anambra are deities, infact streams and rivers are so venerated that they seem to have a personality of their own. As a kid I fear fear going down to the stream alone, or passing any of those Giant Akpu Trees.
May be I will carry out a rich documentary on these 'mysteries' in Idemili one of these days! Really, I am fascinated by them!
