justinlmj: facebook is down now..
Facebook’s main site was down worldwide on Friday afternoon, the second major outage in less than two months. Users began reporting outages shortly after 4pm UK time, but unlike June’s collapse, the failure was spotty at first, with some users reporting continuous access well past 5:15.
Many users of the site were instead confronted with an error page reporting that “the requested URL could not be retrieved”. Sites that use Facebook IDs as login tokens were also affected by the outage, leaving users unable to log in to services such as Skype for the duration of the downtime.
June’s outage was the longest for four years, with the site completely unaccessible for more than 31 minutes. Whether or not this outage counts as longer depends on what time one counts it as starting at. In nigeria if a website is down. It is blamed on the network |

Comparing the growth of a 3 month old baby to a 16 year old teenager. Growth and size is different. The nigerian economy is simply too big to grow that fast |

McStoic: Dear Nairalanders, how advisable is it converting your favourite, normal sized sim into a micro sim line? I just got a HTC One X (unlocked international version) which i intended using with my MTN line. Am now in a dilemma cos am afraid of cutting it to micro sim since i usually swap phones when network and low battery palaver arises. Should i go ahead and cut my MTN Sim or do it with another network and end up carrying multiple phones around? Also, which network is the best for an android user? Thanks in advance. You can cut your sim to a microsim and get a sim adapter when you want to use it in a phone of bigger sim slot. #thats all. Also if d sim slot of your phone is like the BlackBerry bolds and curves. U cn actually position the sim very well by matching the metal slots on top of each other. There is a 60%chance of success. For android devices the best network is glo. Nt best in speed but they r easy to scam. 1000N for 3gig (30 days). Change your apn to 'blackberry.net'. |

aryzgreat: Had similar experience in lagos (around oke-afa bridge, isolo)
Was strolling past and a haggard looking man holding 5 litres jerrycan approached me and started explaining while pointing towards d bridge, that he was rushing his old woman to the hospital on emergency and the vehicle just stopped before the bridge due to fuel. i asked where is d vehicle, he pointed towards the bridge and i did not see any vehicle, but due to the anxiety written all over his face, i was moved to give him 1k, he prostrated flat on the road thanking me. I left as he dashed across the road as if he was going to buy fuel.
3 days later, around that same axis, this tym dia was a serious hold up, i was strolling towards Jakande and i saw d man telling to a man d same story, i was very angry, i had to rush and tell him that d man is a scammer, immediately he saw me he started cursing in yoruba 'oloriburuku etc' i decided to spoil show for him that day and lie waiting for his next move, he crossed to d other side of the road and started scamming another passerby, as d man was about bringing money from his pocket, i quickly dashed towards them and shouted that he is a thief, the passerby was confused, i raised my voice and some touts and conductors gave him a hot chase. They caught him and dragged him back, they asked him to take them to the so called mother that he said is in d vehicle, he said it was all a ploy to evoke sympathy, he was beaten mercilessly that day, his shirt torn and d 5 litre container matched flat by the touts. It aint safe to do that. If he had a gun nko or oda scammers in dat area Ull get beat up |
NYSC › Re: My Experience With A Corper In Abuja by tomiobj(m): 11:53pm On Jul 29, 2014 |
ritux: I hope this is in the right section.
Just yesterday 28th July, I was driving towards Gwarinpa, there is this flyover bridge that turns directing you towards Gwarinpa/Kubwa express road if you are coming from Nnadi Azikiwe express way.
As I was driving round the bridge turning towards Kubwa, I saw this car parked by the side of the road with the bonnet open and there was this guy dressed with the complete NYSC uniform stranded. Out of pity, I pulled over and the guy ran to me. Without asking, he told me he just ran out of fuel and that he doesn't have any cash with him.
I decided to help and I asked him how we gonna do it. He said he has a keg in his car. So I told him to get it because I was actually heading towards the new NNPC mega station to get petrol for my car and my generator before getting home. Just as I came down from the bridge, he said there is a place close by he can get to buy from black market since it will be difficult for him to come back. So I stopped and gave him 700 naira. He thanked me and came down. As I was going, I looked through my mirror and I saw him trying to cross to the opposite side of the road.
Fast forward to today 29th July, I was driving through same route and saw same guy dressed with same NYSC uniform on same spot with his bonnet open again. Immediately he saw me, he turned his face. I pulled over and started reversing. He started waving to me to go. The next thing, he jumped into his car and speed off heading towards Kubwa. I chased him but could not get him him because I entered into the fast lane and he was on the service lane. After I passed him, he turned into some street and I could not come.
I think he just stands there extorting money from people. But I know one day, I will catch up with him again.
Abuja residents beware. This are the types that can pretend to be NYSC members by putting on the uniform and rob unsuspecting citizens on the highways. Bros, you try oo. Our economy is bad ooo. Because of 700N u chased a guy to a place u dint know. If u try that one in lagos. D nzt tn is that ur missing. And you could be sold to a soka. Godforbid. But on a more serious note don't chase someone in nigeria. It aint safe. Please don't try that again Another sensible perspective stagger: OP, There is hardly a day you do not see a car broken down at that particular flyover. As a rule I do not stop. I just drive past. People have been robbed in such manner. Shine ya eyes o! |

Ok. There is already a nairaland android application. But no offence to seun, the developer(s) or the mods. The app is useless. It is just like a bookmark and just opens nairaland.com. Having a nairaland application will make nairaland more popular. Eg. When you are just scrolling your app store you could come across nairaland in top free downloads. And also. It should have notification settings so the users can get alerts for mentions/likes/follows. Nairaland ccould be the bbm of nigeria. Please give your ideas or advantages. And maybe it will be a reality to have nairaland in your app store (ios, android, blackbeRry,windows phone) |

TYPES OF SLAPS
1. TAKE AWAY SLAP: When someone gives you a dirty slap and all you can do is hold your face and walk away.

Christianity Etc › Re: Lagos Pastor Boasts Of Ebola Cure! by tomiobj(m): 9:56pm On Jul 29, 2014 |
FlirtyKaren: I just found the post the Founder of Trinity House, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, made on his church's official Facebook page, claiming he has found a solution to the deadly Ebola disease, which has killed no fewer than 670 people and infected more than 1,000 in Africa.
Ighodalo says that God’s “anointing” and the “living words of Jesus,” were all that are needed to cure the deadly disease. He is drawing inspiration from the late Canadian–American Pentecostal pastor, John D. Lake, who, according to him, cured those infected by the virus. He says he can perform the same feat as Lake who reportedly laid hands on some Africans infected by the Ebola virus and healed them. Read their post after the cut.
However, Ighodalo’s claim attracted angry reactions from Nigerians who accused him of misleading members of the public on the dangers posed by the deadly virus. Which is capable of putting more Nigerians at risk of contracting the virus.

Like a post said. W.W.J.D? What will jesus do. Tell u go to the hospital? Your faith can heal you. And nigerians are so ignorant. The pastor never said you should talke a risk and get yourself infected. He never said any1 should ignore the precautions. So no need for the ranting |

It is regarded as one of the strongholds of Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the insurgents stormed the town at about 7:30pm on Monday evening and operated unhindered till 2.00am on Tuesday.
The attackers, according to the eyewitnesses went straight to the military base in the town and later entered the town, shooting sporadically and eventually killed eight people.
“They came here and launched an unsuccessful attack on the military base before embarking on selective killings within the town.
Eight people are presently being prepared for burial, one of the eyewitnesses named Modu told The Nation.
It was also gathered that the insurgents vented their anger on the bridge linking Buni Yadi and Damaturu where a section of it was blown off.
