Suicide Bomber Dressed as Student Kills 48 in Nigeria's Yobe State School
Survivors told the Associated Press that the explosives detonated Monday morning during the weekly assembly at the Government Technical Science College in Potiskum, capital of the Yobe state. They also said that the bomber was disguised in a school uniform and carried the explosives in a rucksack commonly used by students. Hospital workers say dozens are being treated and amputations are likely, while a morgue worker told the AP that at least 48 people had died. Soldiers rushed to the grisly scene, but were chased away by people throwing stones, angry at the military's inability to halt a 5-year-old Islamic insurgency that has killed thousands and driven hundreds of thousands from their homes.
Questions I have for you are 1. "If he steps down and resigns, would that bring automatic peace to that part of the country"? 2. If the answer to question 1 is "YES" Wouldn't you think it has been the plan of whoever has been trying to unseat him all this time? 3. If he steps down and the violence still rages on, will you now understand that it may not have been political all this while and may have just been pure extremist islam as we have seen it in other parts of the world?
SicilyNaija: most Nigerians are selfish and stup1d. will goodluck die if he steps down ? is he the only man in this country ? fu.c.k all of you stupid dpd supporters
and I'm very sure you have been counting the number of meetings 'this leader' has been having and what those meetings have been about haven't you? ISIS is tearing up Iraq and Syria, do those people blame the leaders there for the problem, or they blame the fundamentalist ideas that created the problem. do you think the president or leadership of the country both civilian and military just sit somewhere and fold their hands doing absloutely nothing while all this happens. this is a war, a war that has no military solution, like all other wars against terrorism on other places in the world, there is no known solution to ending terrorist campaigns, if for anything we should even be glad they have managed to contain it within the north east, it's so sad that we loose citizens to them, but also, they must have a lot of support from the locals, as we have seen from some of their videos, locals are seen cheering them. No terrorist organisation can thrive for this long and with this level of effectiveness without home support from the locals there.
cramjones: It is with heart felt sympathy that I heard about the bomb blast today in Potiskum that killed 48 innocent students trying to get educated. May their souls rest in peace and may God grant the family comfort and bring the perpetrators to justice. Amen
Meanwhile, it is unfortunate that we have a wicked and insensitive leadership, concerned only to come back to power come 2015. This leader has more meetings on 2015 than on security. This leader does not give a damn. This leader is Corrupt. Incompetent. Deceptive. Divisive. Dishonest. Lazy. Negligent. Unpatriotic. Insensitive. Wicked. Clueless. Confused. And Dangerous.
The blood that has soaked our land will not do so in vain, the day of reckoning for this wickedness and negligence by the presidency will surely come!
Obalende: Why is that students @ University of London, University of Rio de Jenario, University of Oslo and University of Maryland dont form violent cults?
It has puzzled me. In UK no cults.
Why is only in nigeria/ africa that students instead of pioneering research start forming cults?
when it's not terrorists bombing a section of the country it's young boys tired of life killing themselves in another section....apparently the real problem with some Nigerians has to be next level ignorance... because as it is I can equate very accurately the reasoning power of a cultist to the reasoning power of an extremist Islamic terrorist...both grossly ignorant, both willing to kill and die for nothing that can make sense to any right thinking person
you can try to stay away from girls for a start, if you can't then make sure you only follow girls who have no interest in your pocket, also you will have to carry as much food as you can from your house when going to school, the good side to not having money as a student is that it takes away lots of fantasies from your mind, leaving you to just having your books as both your necessity and hobby, and learn to pray to God to be the one to take care of you...because I can imagine what 10k is, it probably is close to what some big cars use to fill their gas tanks up...you are gonna have it rough but there is light at the end of the tunnel...but this your tunnel go long sha
golor: Pls nairalander's help me with a good suggestion on how to manage 10k a month.im a student of uniuyo, even with my provision,i still find it difficult to manage 10k allowance monthly.lyk dis semester i came wit an ideal of not cooking soup cause i think soup consume a lot of cash. i do eat soup outside why i cook rice, indomie and beans in my house.i stop cooking soup cos 1. lol my mum's 2005 passat got it hot as per car action with me, and was good until sometime in 2007 where the car started having proper sickle cell problems + some useless here and there bashings, my guys came up with this theory and concluded that all the girls that went down in that car must be blamed...and i think all my friends at the time also did it in that car...smfh i felt sorry for my aunt who we sold the car to afterwards
and why, in your opinion sir is it best that he doesn't contest?
skyeboy98: The best thing for gej to do is for him not to contest but ruben apati won't tell him de 2rut, ma advice for jona b say make he go look for house to buy for gabon where he go fit hide after 2015 gbam.
Okorocha, Ngige, Amaechi, Tambuwal, and Kwankwaso were all PDP members when the destruction of the country was firmly in PDP hands, now they aren't there anymore because the order in the PDP has changed and then u are interested in them suddenly? or u have always been a fan of theirs the whole time they were PDP members?
Sweetlemon: Hey! I'm not APC per say. I'm for change, something different. If APC can present that, why not give them the chance?
FYI, there are only a few APC guys I care about : Fashola, Okorocha, Oshiomole, Aregbesola, Ngigie, Amaechi, Tambuwal, kwankwaso, and maybe Buhari. I couldn't possibly care any less about the rest.
Not everyone against GEJ is for APC. Get that into your heads.
Ngwakwe: GEJ and PEJ is a family name and don't have anything to do with Nigerian Government.
If you have issues with President Jonathan and his Administration then address him as such. Patience Jonathan's problems are her husband's headache as she wasn't elected or is she seeking re-election.
What baffles me most is that the same people shouting Jonathan failed policies and PDP's sixteen years of bad governance are beginning to praise Obasanjo and have gone further to start repackaging him as a great revolutionary and a patriot.
The same people have gone to seek a failed PDP Administrator's approval and consent to support their attempt to grab power.
If you are not conversant with Nigerian Politics and just depended on social and electronic media for the past six months, you may think Goodluck is PDP and PDP is Jonathan since 1998.
What can I say more than to behold an unprecedented double standard in Nigeria politics.
I will always plead with and remind all open minded and independent Nigerians to avoid all those people trying to repackage a Coup plotter, Sharia Advocate, Human Right abuser, a despot and an embodiment of zero experience in Democratic governance as a substitute and a messiah.
Goodluck Jonathan has his fault but not a failure rather he encourages Democracy, build institution and civil liberties, he doesn't favour one region at the expense of another in any shape or form. He believes in one Nigeria and the right of all to share from the national cake which Buhari in his life and next reincarnation won't adopt.
Nigerians deserve better than Goodluck Jonathan's presidency but won't be intimidated to settle for less.
yea we could do that...but even that would take a very long time...believe that..a very long time, but my point here is...it's not like Mr President likes the place called Burkina Faso so much or it's people so much that he went there...there was a reason, a good reason, not 'clueless' as (a lot of people who can't even preside over a relationship effectively, but, theoritically are better presidents than GEJ ) like to call it
Ibnsultan: For BH we can adopt Algeria style, turkish pkk. Degrade n deplete there capability Recapture all territories. Chase them into the mountains Open contact with them
let me guess, you only wear native attires, you don't wear anything that has western culture, no T-shirts, no sneakers, no suits...only native dresses??
Litmus: Nigga is really the word to describe this. Nigger, Coon, slave-boy....
Who advises Johnathan even? It's like we're being conquered by the stupidity and slavishness of Africa, First Cameroon then He's rushing off to do the bidding of French West Africa colonial master France, now he's abandoning his native attire for Western ones like the rest of the idiots all over Africa.
Please, someone, show me just one of the prim-ministers/Presidents of Great Britain, Europe or North America wearing African attire.
yes it's a political situation, but there is a leadership tussle, there is a void, 2 people are laying claim to power, soon, there will be a struggle if nothing is done by outsiders, and if a struggle starts, a war would start, if a war starts, insurgents will go in, if insurgents go in, it will be a safe haven/training ground for terrorists who in turn will attack Nigeria, and there will be a need to deploy troops there by ECOMOG, now they know this chain reaction and are trying to be proactive. Nigeria is not able to finish off boko haram because it's an ideology, we all know we can't defeat an ideology with military action, just that because the goals of this ideology is unrealistic, it's just going to continue in bloodshed no matter who the president is or where he goes or what he does...this is the sad truth
Ibnsultan: Burkina faso is a political situation Mali had an on going problem wit tauregs n Aqim before the Coup Its not the first time Gej goes 4 foreign trips while Nigeria is burning As president ur country is ur No1 priority If Nigeria is able to degrade BH. It will reagain its position as the Boss
but then, you do realise it's important for Burkina Faso to become stable as soon as possible before it becomes another terrorist haven in the region which would have effects on Nigeria...remember the Mali situation...besides there will also be security of the region discussed
Ibnsultan: If he cares he wouldn't be travelling at a time his country needs him If u were affected any way my d happening in d North wouldn't be esy on him
I understand these things, but really, even if he doesn't leave Nigeria for a whole year, you think it's going to stop what's happening there? you want to be honest with yourself...think, all the countries that are having terrorism challenges within their territories, how has the presence or absense of their leaders curbed the menace down...we are in a war with terrorists, that's a war not winnable, no country has fought and defeated terrorism within its borders totally...and even if that's possible it will take years, if not for anything, we should be glad its being contained in one part of the country, it could have been worse...to be honest
Ibnsultan: You don't know how ugly tings are in BH areas You don't wat it means to loose love ones You are in ur comfort zone enjoying while millions are refugees in der own Country You don't know the pain of parents whose love ones are MIA You YOu You. Its sad
this trip must really pain you somewhere in your spine...2nd comment on this
Ibnsultan: How can the leader of a country that has lost control of 17 local govt to terrorist, with over 320000 citizens internally displaced, over 35000 as refugees in neighboring countries, & a security apparatus on the run travel outside the country with the aim of brokering peace in another country (burkina faso). Does it mean his country doesn't need peace or that the situation is not Serious enough? Bappah Abdul
Lumiworld2020: For God's sake, our territory are been ceded to BH, yet no words from our Presido, but he can go to another country to help put their house in order..
so becoming a part of politics is being on every political thread on Nairaland??
laykorn: Who told you bacanista has gone?? We are just saying a goodbye in case he goes. And,my mission here originally hadn't anything to do with politics, but along the line I couldn't bear the hullabaloo anymore. And if we don't become a part of it,we won't be able to change it.
you are jealousing us because we schooled in France...lol the first time I saw that post I got pissed off, then I went off to school in France and I can see the beef everywhere
Zakkyoz: Though nairaland is a public forum, we ought to learn how to utilise space with high sense of decency and decorum. There was a point when virtually all nairalanders were 'GARRI' ADVOCATE. Then attention was shifted again to picture demanding with the phrase 'ADONBILIVIT'. Now the trend is 'I schooled in France' even when an important topic is under discussion. I hereby humbly suggest that whoever use this should be banned till after 2015 general elections.
for all of you saying it serves him right, I have a question. What exactly is the offence he committed that this serves him right for, because what I understood from the reading was that he was trying to prevent what eventually happened to him from happening to some other people because they are gay, so it means he was trying to prevent violence.
so that means if those of you who say it serves him right were there, you would have joined the angry mob in doing this to him as well... savages
lol, is there anybody trying to get into the cement business and bring competition to Dangote? because this looks like the all too familiar move of crushing competition in your industry Rockefeller style
it's not a sin, it's a temptation, and no temptation is a sin, it's falling into the temptation that becomes a sin...get it...that's theoritically explaining it as i understand christianity, but on the other hand as a reasonable person, it's normal human nature, so if it comes don't be worried about the desire, be more worried about if it's really worth opening your legs at the time u get the urge. cheers
nomabeeee: I have been having this argument with someone. Is sexual desire a sin? I don't really have something tangible to say about it. I really want to know what people think about this. I really hope I will get to have an answer to my question. So I plead with everyone to give matured and biblical comments. God bless you as you do. *Waiting*
In my case, I think I outgrew it, because i had chronic bouts in my secondary school days, but now I've hardly had to use them, I just buy a new inhaler whenever winter is approaching and I use it to avert the symptoms, my trigger was usually coughing that can arise from intense laughter, I even smoke every now and then, mostly socially tho, and I've had no issue, so I just think either I outgrew it, or somehow I was miraculously healed from chronic attacks,
to be honest this is very disturbing...I understand the concept tho, fight a terrorist like a terrorist, but u have to be a very wicked fellow to execute someone by beheading
could easily mean the affected states usually never add anything to national GDP growth in the first place, that's obviously with complete economic stagnation or even retardation in those areas, the rest of the country is still accelerating, even if it's doing so really slowly
