- Cardinal Sin of Manilla - Catholic Cardinal - Mr Groom and Miss Bride got married in the UK |
mobuch:You should appraise her comment based on its objectivity or otherwise and not link it to her marital status. Your comment would appear to show that you are living many centuries ago. Is it a sin not to be married or does marriage confer any special status on a lady? Pls wake up, we are in 2015. |
ayindejimmy:That problem is the challenge of implementation of the project, a common denominator in most projects in Nigeria. It does not diminish the unprecedented financial and other support GEJ gave Nollywood. |
There is no doubt that GEJ supported Nolly wood in an unprecedented manner. Funds were made available to develop the industry not only in the production of films but also in the creative ( script writing) and capacity development (training at home and abroad). It s inevitable that the benfica rise would support him. If people in other sectors have this type of support they will also support their benefactor. We should not grudge them. Their enlightened self interest is to see how the in-coming administration would further support their industry. |
kingolaola:All Jaybee3 wants you to do is to send a mail to Tehn requesting for funds to meet the balance of 'N150,000 to N200,000 required. |
efilefun:I beg to disagree. By the singular act of conceeding, GEJ is head and shoulders above OBJ. You may wish to note that the phone call is just the final point of his electoral reform. He allowed the independence of INEC - opposition parties won gubernatorial elections ( which dd not happen under OBJ, he did not invent unproven allegations to fire Jega etc. you should not downplay the infamous third term agenda of OBJ. It was the height of desperation and fell him down from the stateman he wanted to be. Do you think OBJ or even APC would have allowed the election and result? The OAU and ECOWAS did their bit but if GEJ wanted he would not have even allowed it to reach that stage. A journalist made the point that the faulty card reader at GEJ's polling booth could have been used by him to scuttle the process. I agree completely. Let us give credit to whom it is due. GEJ ia a statesman and way above 'I too know OBJ'. |
InvertedHammer:You seem to have misinterpreted my submission. My commendation was on the electoral reform and the concession of the presidency which was a first in Nigeria and the pinnacle of the reform. Recall that under his presidency ( as opposed to OBJ) opposition parties won elections at the gubernatorial level and there was little or no interference in INEC. Somebody else could have infiltrated INEC and indirectly engineered Jega's sack if he is perceived as not dancing to the tune of the FG? I am not inferring that he was a 'good man' as you said as we can appraise his tenure under different indices: - Electoral reform - excellent - Politics - below average as it s under his watch that PDP went from majority to minority party - Corruption - this is a difficult one. The perception is that the regime was corrupt. I am however not persuaded that it is more corrupt than others before it. Is Asiwaju less corrupt than GEJ? Probably not only that he is a better strategist or politician - economy - below average as the gains f the high oil price was nt probably harnessed. - infrastructure - average - roads, railways airports - education - average We should however acknowledge GEJ as a statesman because of his exploits in the electoral reform. He is head and shoulders above people like OBJ or IBB. |
Jonathan may have lost the election but he has emerged as one of Nigeria's prime statesmen. He did what Buhari did not do in the ast elections that he lost and OBJ through his dubious 3rd term agenda. GEJ's name will be written in gold in the annals of electoral reform in Nigeria. I hope GMB will do the same in the event that he loses in 2019. We need to commend GEJ. However the is not the first time an incumbent is conceding election in Africa. Our close neighbour Ghana did it sone years back when Koffor was defeated by less than 25,000 votes by the opposition. Ghana also showed a first when Rawlings anointed candidate was defeated by the opposition when he handed over after some 15 or so years. God bless Nigeria |
One of the greatest attributes of Goodluck Jonathan is his impressive performance in electoral reform and rule of law. We all remember how PDP won virtually all the elections during Obj's tenure Sonc 2011 the opposition parties have won many governorship elections. I am sure some APC regimes in Jonathan's position would not have allowed free and fair elections. The sweeping of LG Council elections in mst states by the incumbent state government s a pointer to the brass partisanship. We should not forget that he Lagos APC regime did all I odu to prevent the PDP winner in Eti OSA LG from assuming office. Jonathan has done Hsbc bit and it s left fr properity to apprase him. I don't think he is as poor as being portrayed. The presenti political structure s flawed nd the thrust should be to restructure same from the grassroots - make it less expensive, empower institutions and NOT individuals and reduce corruption. |
I'm not sure 'The Nation' newspaper would feature such a story as prominently as Punch did |
Electing Buhari as president, disaster for Africa –Ex US envoy MARCH 21, 2015 : ERIC DUMO 160 COMMENTS Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) | credits: igbofocus.co.uk A former spokesman for four United States Ambassadors to the United Nations, Richard Grenell, has said that if former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, emerges as the next president of Nigeria in next Saturday’s elections, it would be a disaster for the entire African continent. Grenell, who made the declaration in a piece titled: Nigeria on the brink, and which was published in the Washington Times, a US based publication, of Thursday, March 19, 2015, described Buhari as working tirelessly to enthrone Sharia law across the country, which he said would further pose a major challenge to the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the continent at large. He said, “Western foreign policy observers pre-occupied with the rise of ISIS in the Middle East should wake up to the reality unfolding in Nigeria. Opposition candidate General Buhari wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria. In fact, he wants it everywhere. “Is this an indication that Buhari supports violence because the end goal of the terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria and Africa is an Islamic state? It is a legitimate question that should be asked by leaders of the Obama administration. “Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance and support to ISIS. The Northern Nigerian based Islamic terrorist group wants Sharia law throughout the country and beyond. They are also actively terrorising Chad, Niger and Cameroon with their goal of an Islamic state. “Buhari has also spoken sympathetically about members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, has cautioned against a rush to judgement on its members and has personally been selected by the terrorist group to lead its negotiations with the Government of Nigeria. “Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa. It would also signal trouble for the West’s fight against ISIS and terrorism throughout the Middle East.” According to Grenell, incumbent president and Buhari’s main rival at next Saturday’s election, Goodluck Jonathan has made commendable inroads in strangling Boko Haram to submission in recent weeks and so deserves the support of the Barack Obama led United States administration and the rest of the world. “The Nigerian economy has been growing faster than South Africa’s. Imagine what Nigeria could do for Africa if it was also free of Boko Haram’s violence. The Obama Administration should be doing more to ensure Africa’s most populous country doesn’t slip away,” he said. Speaking further, Grenell said that with the election in Israel over, the West must quickly turn its attention to Nigeria where the outcome of next Saturday’s presidential elections could have a profound impact on the future of Africa. “Islamic radicals have Africa on their target list and young Nigerians are reported to be interested in ISIS’ messages. Nigeria is at a tipping point. The West, and specifically the Obama Administration, needs to wake up to the growing problem,” he said. In October 2014 during an interview with TheCable, an online news platform, Buhari had said that he was not a religious fundamentalist or extremist as his opponents had alleged and that all those trying to hang such malicious tag on him were merely attempting to demonise and tarnish his image. “Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians. In 2003, I chose Chuba Okadigbo as my running mate. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. In 2007, I picked Edwin Ume-Ezeoke. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. And in 2010, I chose even a pastor, Pastor Tunde Bakare. “Honestly, what do Nigerians want me to do? If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do? The era of short-changing people in the name of religion should stop,” he had said. Copyright PUNCH. Comment: it appears Punch is objective in its reporting after all. Not an APC Newspaper |
Could someone recommend a reputable agent with veritable track record who could assist in the disposal of an uncompleted house in Lagos. Thank you. |
[quote author=francizy post=31630558]I like the way we argue, pretty maturedly unlike some other kid mentioning my moniker. Now let me burst your bubble about the zero tolerance to corruption with this issues faced during GMB's rule and his time under OBJ as a petroleum minister: - Why was there funds misappropriation in the tune of $2.8billion during his time as Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources.? This case was investigated by the inept tribunal set up by Shehu Shagari during his regime and found him not guilty of which there was still lapses in the NNPC account. If he was not guilty as the verdict said, there shouldn't have been lapses in the NNPC account. - Buhari was very biased during his rule. Can you counter that? If you want to, then name at least one Hausa/Fulani Muslim jailed for corruption charges. Why did he jail only Sountherners? Why did he jail mainly Yorubas, Igbos and other Sountherners whether guilty or not? I will leave you with this to go through: Same man is backed up and sponsored by some of the most corrupt persons in Nigeria and we say he has zero tolerance to corruption? I would nt be voting in the election but just to clarify a few things: - Fela was travelling out of (and not to) Nigeria when he was arrested for currency trafficking - The fugitive that Buhari attempted to kidnap and bundle to Nigeria wa a Northerner (Umaru Dikko) My take is that both leading candidates have baggages. Nigerians should look at the one that has fewer and more tolerable baggages. One negative about Buhari is his statement (up to tomorrow) that Abacha was not corrupt. If he does not regard Abacha as corrupt, I don't know what he wants t fight. His initial statements on Boko Haram is also a negative. On the other hand Jonathan is perceived as an embodiment of corruption and his defenders do not have a convincing response. The question however is whether or nt Jonathan is more corrupt than his predecessors. A positive for Jnsthan is respect for he rule of law. I'm nt sure any other party would have won any state gubernatorial election as they did under Jonathan if under Obasanjo for instance. I believe it will be a close race. |
tony9k:With another person on the same page with me in respect of DJ being the owner of the funds, the relevant question is whether or not anybody (including Tehn, donors and Nairaland) has any authority to determine the utilisation of the balance. The money should ideally go to DJ's estate (represented by the Mum) |
The money should be given to the next of kin - in this case the mum. We should not be concerned with what she does with it. Techically the money is DJ's. Tehn were simply custodians. It also does not belong to the donors as donating the funds had made them lose the authority over it. The money could have been donated directly to DJ ( which was what happened initially). Would we attempt to have control over the balance in that scenario? Let the money be given to the owner DJ in this case represented by us estate (his mum) |

How old is this story as Theresa May has been the Home Secretary since May 2010. |
I know someone who is presently dating the mother of his son's wife. In fact they met at the wedding of his son and daughter in law. They are not Nigerians though and don't live in Naija. |
alutacontinua: Dey thereThis is for Buky Buky and others: In this day and age if your daughter brings home a prospective husband who is 10 years older than her you will tell her she can't marry the person? And you think she would dump him because of your opinion? I think not. Do people still choose spouses for their children? |
Some people are of the opinion that the Customs Officers at the Int'l airport are 'not well paid and the money I give them would probably mean a lot to them so I can understand'. I hope such people are premier league footballers or other high earning sports people or entertainers. This is because a traveller who earns well but still pays mortgage abroad should not compare himself to the average customs officer who has about 4 cash-down houses in choice areas of Nigeria and makes a tidy sum tax-free everyday at the airport. They are far more comfortable than 90% of the people they extort money from. |
A guy who told his friend that he does not share the same bedroom with his wife was asked how they do the show. He laughed and said it was very easy. He knocks on his wife's bedroom 3 times and goes to his room. Shortly after the wife joins him as she can decode the message. The friend then asked what happens if it is the wife that wants the show. He said it was also very easy the wife comes to his door and asks the question "did you just knock my door 3 times? " |
Advice from one girl to the other: - it is good for a girl to have a boyfriend who is rich - it is good for a girl to have a boyfriend who is handsome - it is goog for a girl to have a boyfriend who is good in bed - it is good for a girl to have a boyfriend who is homely - the best thing is for them not yo know each other Quotable quotes |
Condemning her slave role appears to be inappropriate in my opinion. If you act as a prostitute in a movie does that make you a who.re. Acting is make belief to interpret the script correctly and make it real. One can condemn the proliferation of 'slave movies' bout the fact is that black people were slaves in 1908 the period captured by the film and the role would be given to a black person who is regarded as a very good one. She s a professional and she appears to be doing it well |
dhammyg: A 20YR OLD AND A 17YR OLD HAVE NO DIFFERENCES BTW THEM. SO A 20 YR OLD HAS NO RIGHT TO COME AND PREACH ABOUT MATURITY TO ME.I EVEN HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE 20 AND ABOVE.SO MAYBE IF U WERE 30YRS I WILL TAKE U SERIOUSI am very impressed by your consistent stand on your earlier position that there is more to life than marriage. This is especially commendable as you are a young lady in Nigeria. The society has so much influenced us that we believe that a woman who is not married is not complete. This cannot be further from the truth. Marriage is desirable but it is not the end of the world. As you correctly stated this mindset prevents women in abusive marriages from leaving. We should not even mention the religious angle where the phrase ' God hates divorce' is quoted. I wish success in your academic and professional pursuit and meeting a man of your dreams that would prove to be deserving of you |
The precarious situation of the educational sector in the country is succinctly depicted by the fact that: - the op had some grammatical errors in his post - when he was stylishly corrected other posters did not know that there were flaws - the op now came back with the defence that the had higher degrees in Economics and not English and the flaws were was acceptable - most of the posters were misplacing tenses in their responses The pathetic state of public schools is common knowledge and the report is not unexpected. The phenomenal growth of private schools in all states of the country is an indication of the loss of confidence in public schools and it cuts across the entire sector primary to tertiary. The solution is for govt (yes govt) to substantially invest in education - personnel, infrastructure and training for a turnaround. We should take a cue from the state of public schools in Britain from where we copied. There are private schools abroad but most public schools have a minimum acceptable level. |
Your brother in law is not 'asking you out' but he is sexually harassing you. You need to properly define his action so that you would know the appropriate reaction. You should warm him to desist and if he does not you should report him to your sister. You should also avoid being alone with him so that he des not rape you. The idea of not wanting to disturb his marital relationship does not come in as he has already started the process by harassing you. To the guys who may say that the lady should not wear sexy dresses etc that is immaterial as the brother in law should be abe to control himself. If he is in an office where ladies dress immodestly would he harass them. The post also highlights the precarious situation that our society places female the child in. Ordinarily the op shoud not think twice before reporting such a case of sexual harassment. We seem to have a long way to go. |
Reviewing the life and times of Nelson Mandela, I was wondering what the situation would have been if he was born in Nigeria It is possible that the struggle he led could have been turned to a tribal one It is possible that many politicians could have condemned his struggle. They could argue that the country might be better under the apartheid system and point to many independent African countries that were being mismanaged. Perhaps his greatest opposition could come from Christiandom. Many would argue that he did not believe in God or at best was not a practising christian. The Christian leaders could argue that God has placed those at the helm of affairs there and therefore God will remove them at his time. others could argue that he was not able to effectively manage his family ( as he divorced twice) and could therefore not be expected to manage the county. It is possible that the apartheid regime could have compromised him either by inducement or blackmail or both. There could have been sponsored trips all over the world confirming the acceptance of the 'generality' of the people to the status quo and presentation of statistics to authenticate same. However maybe the above is the 'old Nigeria'. The new Nigerians would not do any of these and would do the same if not more than the South Africans did. Perhaps . . . |
While it is a big challenge to prevent individuals from displaying racist tendencies the major issue is how the law or governments respond to such behaviour. In the two countries it is a crime to be racist and there have been numerous cases of prosecution. Can we say the same thing about the law in African countries on display of tribal tendencies or nepotism. It does not appear to be a criminal act. The tribal comments displayed on NL is unbelievable. Just a food for thought. |
A lot of people have confirmed that this is old school 419. Just wanted to add the fact that the guys play on people's greed. A similar thing happened to a friend of ours and before the scammers completed the transaction he hinted one if us and we told him he was in the middle if a scam but he disbelieved us. According to him we don't what his breakthrough. He took three days to get 'their' money through borrowing, begging cajoling etc and he was not clear from the hypnotism. The annoying thing was that he fell victim because he wanted to use the windfall for his marriage. - not even to establish himself in biz. As long as there are greedy people out three these ancient 419 runs will continue. |
marjo: To all the wannabe husbands, she is married. She was Sola David before marrying Borha and becoming Sola David-Borha.She is married to David Borha. She was Miss Sola Ogun(something). |
lumideezle: Wow I am totally Amazed at the amount of people supporting the cashier to rob their employer. I mean I understand say Naija hard o but u can actually make it without stealing. if u are doing thiswhat makes u different from the Armed robber on the streets that we are all so quick to Judge. And its theses same people would complain that things aren't working in Nigeria. A south African company comes to help us revamp our shopping and our Plp wanna run them out of biz how do u expect to draw the attention of other well meaning investors to the country ?You may wish to note that the majority of people have condemned the action of the cashier. Arcbabe appears to be the major proponent of 'stealing from your employer is okay'. The consolation is that most people are disgusted with her position; with some even insinuating that she must be be playing devil's advocate just for fun since they cannot believe that she is being serious. |

but I loved him like tomorrow no dey
. When I told my mum about him, she just went on and on about the age difference-in my mind, I was just laughing cos with the way I loved that guy, I knew she wouldn't have been able to stop me. The woman prays too much though, maybe na her prayers make the guy mess up like that
