Uchenaija:Your user name Vs your e mail address. He be like say you be 'complete' Nigerian; or is there an ulterior motive |
Quotable quotes " It is good to have a boyfriend who is rich It is good to have a boyfriend who is handsome It is good to have a boyfriend who is good in bed It is good to have a boyfriend who is educated and well behaved The best thing however is that they don't know each other" |
@TMWoods. Actually while it is a fact that virtually all Nigerian politicians are there to loot the treasury, he was one of the relatively better ones. When the political actors if the second republic were probed he was the only one "who left government poorer than when he went in" He was also not the typical professional politician as he had a thriving architectural firm and was well educated. We actually need many more of such. RIP. |
Zionista:FYI Alabukun is produced by Nigerian University trained pharmacists |
. . . his dad was a catholic Rev father? . . . Catholic rev father!! |
greggng:Excuse me, the statement I made is not wrong. If you do not know it is better not to volunteer an opinion. |
Abudu2000:I perfectly understood the question. The initial one was about driving with an EU licence in Nigeria. A follow up question, which I answered was whether or not one could use a Nigerian licence to drive in the EU. Maybe it is you that needs to understand the trend of the discussion. |
To the person who asked, yes as a visitor you are allowed to use your Nigerian licence to drive in the UK for a limited period ( I think year) in the UK. Ditto for the US. The issue is that Uk drives on the left and US on the right ( same as nigeria) so must visitors are more comfortable driving in the US as visitors. By the way you don't need the " International divers licence" |
There was once a story of a man who accused someone of 'stealing' his JT at Oshodi. The accused was ordered to return the JT otherwise . . . The accused subsequently did some 'abracadabra' and told the victim to check as he had retrieved his JT from its journey to India. The victim checked and started crying that was was returned was a child's JT and not his. The accused tried again and the victim this time said what was returned was a white man's own as it was not circumcised. After the third attempt the victim smiled saying 'what he returned now is significantly bigger than mine but I will just manage it like that' |
helpee:Well said. This man is a SAN and has been in the fight fir constitutional democracy over the years. His fight against corruption, his view that many legislators are corrupt or/and his love for PMB has rubbished his previous commendable judicial advocacy. You may not like the pyre sent set of legislators but you should respect the constitution. |
Ahmeduana:English should also be taught or rather taught well and understood. |
Plumber is also pronounced "plumer" the b is silent. I recall this joke Mr A: Mr B please meet my colleague Mr C. Mr B: It is pronounced "colleag" as the "ue" is silent. I can't believe what I'm reading here. What type of brain do we have in Nigeria? Even if the girl went to do runs, does that justify her death? Even a street prostitute is entitled to fundamental right to life as a human being. The world in a global village in this Internet age and we need to start adhering to global best practices. Her death should be investigated and if anyone is culpable they should be punished accordingly without prejudice to what took her to the Alhaji's house. |
Did anyone else notice the 5 names on the "First ladies of Koji state". There was an unconfirmed rumour during a past military regime that the original First Lady (wife of the president) would have selected one of them as the "authentic" one fir the governor!!! |
He made the letter public then apologised via a private phone call? |
Contrary to statements made that President Jonathan brazed the trail by conceeding defeat to PMB, our neighbours in Ghana have politicians who have consistently been doing same as the loss of a sitting president to an opposition party candidate has become second nature: - Former President Rawlings after well over a decade as military and civilian president could not instal his anointed candidate as his successor. The opposition candidate won. - In the next presidential election, Rawling's successor himself lost to another opposition candidate ( John Koffor) who defeated the incumbent president by a margin if only about 20k votes. - Sitting President John Koffor's anointed candidate (the present President-elect) lost narrowly to an opposition candidate ( Atta Mills) - Today's sitting President (John Mahatta) assumed office upon Atta Mills death. When he contested against the President elect 4 years ago the case went all the way to the Supreme Court and the president won by a narrow 5-4 margin. - Now a sitting president has been defeated by an opposition candidate. Ghana appears to be setting the once in Africa's polical development. |
There are some salient points from this narration that just does not add up IMO: - A 'christian' who had no qualms considering abortion. - Regina's acceptance that she was pregnant with a male child following 'revelation' by her pastor without a medical confirmation - Regina's husband changing his mind about the proposed abortion upon confirmation that it was a male in the womb. If it was female he probably would have continued with the proposed abortion. As a country the influence of culture and religion on our way of life leaves much to be desired. |
Quadri Haruna made history by defeating his German opponent 4 - 2 (12-10, 12-10, 11-5, 3-11, 7-11, 11-9) to qualify for the quarter finals of the men's table tennis tournament of the on-going Rio Olympics. Nigeria's best performance in the men's singles before now was Toriola's last 16 placement at Beijing 2008. Congrats. |
The report should have included the fact that another Nigerian - Quadri Aruna defeated his opponent to advance to the next round. |
The world is a global village and we can therefore follow the seamless transition of power in the UK. Although the parliamentary system of democracy is practised in the UK compared to the presidential system, there are some salient points to be noted: - the resignation of David Cameron. The former Pm was not compelled to resign but felt a moral obligation to. In fact a number of MPs from his party had written an open letter to him before the EU referendum not to resign whatever the outcome. One can say that virtually all PMs in the same position would have done the same thing. - the short time table of transition and even shorter actual transition. - the short period that it took one of the remaining contestants of the Conservative leadership position - Andrea to concede to Teresa May. - the short period it took David Cameron to pack out of 10 Downing Street ( UK's Aso Rock) - the almost immediate moving in of Teresa May. Although Cameron stayed there for over 6 years there was no need to 'refurbish' it with Billions of Naira ( hundreds of millions of pounds) - the modesty displayed by Cameron in the physical movements of his stuff. - the fact that the Cameron family had let there usual family house while at no 10 and could therefore not immediately move there. Would our Nigerian leaders not consider it demeaning to let out their usual residence. Taking of accommodation the former Deputy Prime Minister stayed in his personal flat throughout his 5 years in government. - the modest tone of Cameron's valedictory speech in which he emphasised the privilege to serve - the final departure of the Cameron family is a modest people carrier from No 10. The 24/7 global Information Age enabled us to see these activities on a per second basis. We expect our politicians to take a cue from best global practices and if they don't we need to demand same. The fact that Nigeria which is a relatively poor country has about 11 jets in the presidential fleet while some children are unable to have basic health care or free education does not wash. That a state government that is technically insolvent would draw over 250 million as unaudited security vote needs to be questioned. I rest my case. - |
There was a guy who boasted to his friend that he was very rich with a 4 bedroom house and separate rooms for his wife and himself. The friend said he was probably richer as he had a 5-bedroom house but shared the same bedroom with his wife. He wondered how his friend with separate bedroom gets round to doing the 'show'. The reply was that it was quite easy - he simply knocks his wife's bedroom 3 times and he wife comes to meet him. What then happens if it is the other way round he was asked - if it is the wife that wants the show. It is very easy was the reply - my wife comes to my room and asks the question 'Did you just knock my room 3 times?' |
What this means is that the op has not visited 'compare the market', 'go compare' and all other comparison site to get the bet energy deals. The op is probably still paying higher than should be paid. And fuel price fell below £1.00 per litre weeks ago so the difference in fuel costs should have been obvious. The question in the topic s very relevant though. |
This story get as e be. The policy of the British government is that if you have dual citizenship of Britain and another country and you are in that other contry then your british citizenship is technically silent. So if he was in Ghana he would be accorded all rights and priviledges of a British citizen but probably not in Naija. Except of course if the current court case has given an exception to the rule. |
A pathetic situation but our prayers and thoughts are with the victim's parents. We pray the chid is found alive. Two issues however came out to me from the story. One positive and the other negative. On the positive side I salute the courage of the mother to report her husband when the didn't react to the report of the neighbour being a suspect. Some wives, for whatever reasons would not have done so. The negative point is the father's statement that he had used his meagre savings to 'follow up' with the police on the investigation of the child's disappearance. It is terrible that someone in that predicament has to 'mobilise' the police. We have a long way to go in this country in many spheres of life. |
. . . DECLARED his assets . . |
Don't know if state funds will be used but Ajimobi declares his assets publicly when he became a governor in 2007 and the total was about N380 million. He retired from paid employment as the CEO of then National Oil before going into politics. The irony is that for a Nigerian politician, his apparent enviable financial position does not preclude him from 'stealing' the state dry. Again one is not in a position to confirm the case with Ajimobi and Oyo state funds. |
The fact is that one cannot conclude that it is not love. I know of a couple (both white) who got married 4 years ago when the groom was 19 and the bride 48. Two years ago they celebrated a joint birthday party - man 21 and woman 50. My discussion with the woman revealed that she was initially reluctant to accept the guy's proposal as she had 3 children (the youngest was 21 then) but the guy persisted and was ready to trade not having children of his own for the woman's love. However a black man appeared to be wired differently and would probably not do the same. Btw the couple is a regular one who financed their wedding with credit card debt that they are yet to finish paying. |
As an aside, is there a market for sale of uncompleted buildings in Nigeria. There is a significantly completed 4-apartment building in Aja area of Lagos. Does anyone know who might be interested in its purchase? |
brag3:Brag3. I beg your pardon. I did not condone it. I only stated that it was unprofessional but is what is applicable in Nigeria. Of course it is wrong. My position is that in the nigerian environment it is not unexpected. I understand your frustration but just maybe if the temptation did not come from your sibling, it might have been a different story; that however a a big maybe. |
One word on now-rested brag3 case: those who were castigating brabus for colluding with brag3's sister, in NIGERIA how many professionals will: - risk the profit on a N19 million project and refuse to play ball with a family member - how many bankers will risk losing a public sector deposit for refusing to settle the Officer in charge - how many suppliers will risk losing a business for refusing the Purchasing Manager's request to inflate the LPO - how many people will risk bring delayed by refusing to settle the policeman on road block. What Brabus did was unprofessional but it is obvious that a large majority of Nigeriand would do the same in similar situations. |
BOC was first used to describe PMB by an unapologetic GEJ supporter and one is naturally inclined to regard it as a manifestation of "bad belle" syndrome of some political supporters. Recall that One Change refers to the relatively common robbery inside usually danfo buses in Lagos. The idea is that Nigeria may be for a One chance ride with PMB in the saddle. Whether there is any truth in the assertion is for prosperity to decide as we wait with belated breath. However let us go through the initial actions. Firstly is the fact that the PMB presidency has not hit the ground running. The fact that there are no support staff appointment in place as at today is not helpful. The SFG, COS and other presidency staff do not require Senate clearance. The impression we got was that the government was going to hit the ground running and the excuse of balancing of political appointments (Senate president, Speaker etc) does not appear to be a tenable one. The trip to our neighbours (where 2 days was spent rather than 1 day) is suprising following the criticism that greeted a similar move by GEJ. The role of the opposition party in the Senate Presidency election reminds one of that of Tambulu in 2011. It was rightl averred that GEJ started the loss of the presidency from that day. The then opposition deriled him only to be the victim this time. The reaction of APC as a party to the development is simply laughable as they described the same action as victory for democracy in 2011. The role of Special Adviser/SS Assistant to the President on Media is a delicate one. I believe that our political office holders regard it as condescending to speak frequently to the press/Nigerians hence their long list of officials to do the job. My response of the justified criticism of Reuben Abati ( P hD) is that virtually any other Nigerian would behave similarly in that position. Adesina's goof on PMB's statement on his age and governance would imply that he may be threading the path of Abati. PMB statement on the need to study what is to be done on power situation appears to show that he needs to raise the gear of governance. He is one of the few people who sought and fought hard for the position and the impression should not be that of 'minimum gogrrnment' as a columnist one described a regime - visiting places, receiving foreign and local visitors etc. The upcoming political appointments will indicate how much " change" we would witness. Some commentators have attributed the action of EFCC in the trial of CBN/ Commercial bank fraudsters to PMB but this has nothing to do with him. Some critics have also erroneously attributed the temporary withdrawal is some charges of Slyvia as party politics. The reinstatement of other charges by EFCC similarly shows that PMB is not involved. Have we entered One Chance? Only time will tell. |
RIP. such a young person . Please we should stop referring to a deceased beauty when expressing condolence. The impression being created is that her beauty makes the death more painful. The death of a young person brings more sorrow than an elderly person but that of a 'beautiful' person is not more painful than that of an 'ugly' person. |
