Xlyad: For those with the view that all schools are corrupt with respect to admission processes, OAU is one of the most transparent schools. Being from Cross River I had double admission for Mechanical Engineering(Pre Degree and UME) in 2005 without knowing anyone. In fact my UME score was about 5 marks below general cutoff as Cross River State was an ELDS.If any mistake,it could be human error. In fact, I didn't know where to being to tackle those lot; I got admitted on the merit list without stepping foot on campus, I didn't know anyone there either. My dad had to call some of the extended family members in order to force me to go to OAU then just to check the merit list in person as I did not even bother myself. I ended up going there three days to resumption to check the list. OAU has an very high number of non-yorubas and they are mostly from SS and SE, I wonder where these liars are getting their facts from. |

Scholastica16: Thanks again. I appreciate the words of encouragement. LOL @ percentile. I don't think it plays as much role as people claim it does especially at Masters level (I mean the AWA). Isn't that what you are gunning for? Meanwhile, to say I was flummoxed that you did not make use of your 329 of 2013 is putting it mildly. Why did you not use it and if you tried what schools could have possibly overlooked you? I tried TAMU college station (a notoriously selective school, I didn't know at the time) and Northeastern. I applied very late (deadline day for Northeastern) as the application wasn't planned, some people paid for the tests then so I had no other choice than to apply. I was rejected by TAMU, but Northeastern told me I was being considered for another program, I didn't bother to reply them. |

Scholastica16: Thanks but you quoted my first one. The second was Q-164 V- 160. The AWA will be out in 10 days I think. Hope your second AWA was as you wanted it to be. Correction made, my AW score remained the same, so it's 42nd percentile for me. Just a 6 mark differential from the first one 6 marks is a lot, once again I wish you success in your applications. |

Scholastica16: I wish I had a better testimony to give but this one will make do for now afterall, it is the end-goal that we are all interested in and by end-goal I mean Admission and funding.
I saw VQVQV yesterday and in my estimation did V1 and V3 very well. My V2 was iffy to call a spade and spade. I prayed my V2 will be experimental but I now doubt that was the case. My Q on the otherhand was harder and more time consuming than I hoped it would have been. In fact, I did not have time at all to review any of my sections. I realised I made one mistake but that was in hindsight. The eventual score was Q-164 V-160. Just a 6 mark differential from the first one. Congrats! |

Crime › Re: Police Release Official Statement On Boy Burnt To Death For Stealing (Read) by Topiipii(m): 5:21pm On Nov 17, 2016 |
dovelike: My dear, if this is true, if that 7 year old boy was really beaten and killed because he stole garri, then those people will never know peace, at all. If I am to commit murder, it will be on people involved in jungle justice. If I come across any, and I am capable, I will kill everyone of them. I do not care if the victim stole a plane or even killed someone. That is why we have prisons!!!!!!!!!!! I hate hate hate hate this That boy/man is not 7 years old neither did he steal garri, I'd wager he's anything from 12 upwards. In cases like this where there is video evidence of a crime committed, it is always important to listen to the voices in the background or you listen to the audio if you don't have the mind to watch the video. You threatening to kill those criminals in the video puts you in the same category as them. Finally, almost everyone here seems to be taking sides with a view attempting to focus on the root cause of the mob action. To solve a problem, you have to know the root cause (I'd say causes in this instance) and then eliminate it. We will continue to have jungle justice in this country as long as the people do not have faith in the security forces especially the police which is actually the root cause of jungle justice today. Do you know that some set of people have been robbing passersby in the area (based on what I could gather from the video) where this person was lynched? I'm fairly certain that the police in their usual incompetent way will tell you that they don't know about it. Do you also know that it is common for the people to assume that the police know and work in connivance with such people which is actually true in many cases (An example is Oshodi under the bridge)? As an individual, can you take any matter to the police in Nigeria today with the aim that you will get justice? What about criminals caught in the past with evidence who were released by the police rather than convicted? In some cases some of these criminals go back to take revenge on their captors. How do you begin to trust the competence of a police force that did not know the location of a crime of this magnitude and in broad daylight too knowing fully well that the police will most likely be notified before the remains of the victim is evacuated? Going by all I have said, it will not take long for a set of mentally unbalanced individuals to convince a mob (worse even if some of them were victims of a crime in the past like in this video) to kill a suspect whether he is guilty or not because to them THERE IS NO AUTHORITY, NO LAW, NO JUSTICE. |

drhopeful: So I rewrote the GRE today and I believe I was in the same centre as @seeker88. Anyway, I casually reported my scores and I was utterly stunned at what I saw. For like 3 mins I was just staring at the frigging screen.... 157V, 164Q. I just could not believe it. Apparently the final Q section was the experimental section cos it was too easy to earn me my score. For the benefit of newcomers, I scored 150V, 162Q in my first test 2 months ago.
I shall report on the outcome of AW when it's out. For now, I am UTTERLY RELIEVED!!!!!! I will sleep at 9pm today for the first time in months! Good luck to those yet to write. Time for me to start prep for TOEFL.
@seeker88, come and share your good news jare! Congrats drhopeful, your scores are truly great. I am more than happy for you right now . |

hirschfelder: Good day people,
I have followed this thread for quite a while now, gained a lot from it and owe a lot to everyone who has contributed here. I recently sat for the GRE and my scores were quite good. It wouldn't have been possible if I didn't get guidance and directions from y'all. I got Q166 V166, analytical scores not out yet, praying for something good (I'm not much of a writer). I would like to give a brief summary of my studying pattern or experience, I feel I owe it to those yet to take their exams; some may find it useful. I studied for roughly 2.5 months with intensive studying in the last two weeks to the exam. I started with Kaplan, then Manhattan books and finished with the ETS official guides. Each week, I took full-length tests to gauge my level of preparedness (If you have good internet connection, this would be really helpful to develop your own pacing methods). I used the Magoosh vocabulary app and their e-book to learn new words, they were really helpful over a month or so. That's just about all I did.
Thanks once again for all the help guys. Congrats hirschfelder, your scores are amazing; wish you success in your application. |

A place like the north where schools are not as abundant will naturally have a lot of students given their population. My school is Ikeja Grammar School in case you're in doubt. timoteus: 2. 2 + 2 +2 = 6 3. 3 - 3 + 3! = 6 ( 3 factorial = 6 ) 4. 4! - (4^2) - ( sqrt4) = 6 (24 - 16 - 2 ) 5. (5 C 5) + 5 = 6 ( 5 combination 5 = 1 ) 6. 6 - 6 + 6 = 6 7. 7 - (7C7) = 6 ( 7 combination 7 = 1 ) For 3/ means cube root 2/ means square root 8. (3/ (eight)) + (3/(eight )) + (3/(eight )) = 6 ( cube root of 8 is 2, 2+2+2) 9. 9 - 3/( (9) * 2/ (9)) = 6 (square root of 9= 3, 3 * 9 ( the second 9) =27. Cube root of 27 = 3. Subtract from 9 to give 6. Solved the rest Buh let others try Great! Some of them could have been done in a simpler way though, 3 3 3 for example. Your 4 4 4 is wrong you introduced a number in addition to the symbol in 4^2. |
Education › Can You Attempt This Maths Brain Teaser? by Topiipii(op): 11:29am On Oct 12, 2016 |
0 0 0 = 6
1 1 1 = 6
2 2 2 = 6
3 3 3 = 6
4 4 4 = 6
5 5 5 = 6
6 6 6 = 6
7 7 7 = 6
8 8 8 = 6
9 9 9 = 6
The goal is to make all of the above equations true by adding mathematical symbols.
The rules are:
You can use as many mathematical symbols as you want for each equation You are not allowed to use letters such as “cos”. You are not allowed to add digits of any kind (like raising a value) The result has to be exactly 6 ( not 6.0000000000000001 or 5.999999999999999 ) Square root is allowed You are not allowed to change “=” to “/=” (not equal to) or manipulate the result in any way Ceil and floor functions are not allowed (for those familiar with programming)
I want to point out that all of these have multiple solutions and there are no tricks involved, just math! |
