very nice post. and, I live football enough to know the Spanish dominance was/is one never seen before. I agree with majority of what you said above really.

perhaps, you would appreciation my post you quoted if you followed what triggered such. if you go back at that my message, you'd know I'm not saying the English teams are back. I'm saying with the indices in place - present coaches, Money, and ambition shown, they are coming, in two three years they will all compete. I believe L,pool, City and Spurs play great football at the moment and they competed and would develop further.

the Spanish did things correctly that's why they are here. its not their birthright, they worked for it - Some EPL teams are working for it.

Regards
I saw your first post as I actually read the thread from the first page till this one. The reason I quoted you was actually in my last post: 'My advise to you is to ignore these type of arguments as you're not going to win by any kind of parameter, most times when people start this kind of argument, I just point to the Uefa coefficient index'. I know some English teams are coming up, in fact, you mentioned the exact teams, but just three teams is not going to effect the king of change needed unless there's an improvement in about 8 teams that will regularly play in Europe and not UCL.

Fair enough! Maybe we can say from 2005 to 2013, EPL won 3, same as laliga. but we could look at the number of teams form LA liga and EPL in the latter stages in those years. Madrid was getting knocked out at the round of 16 every year during those years.

I'm not trying to argue, because we'll both never win. but don't reply my lengthy post with 3 sentences comparing who has won more trophy. perhaps you agree with all what I said above except for the EPL past dominance.
You seem insistent on carrying on this argument, so I'll just give the facts about it and put the whole thing to rest.
English teams did dominate, but it was only for three consecutive seasons and not as long as people here claim (claims based on hearsay I might add as I'm sure most of them never watched the UCL).
The golden era for English football in the UCL was from 2004/2005 to 2008/2009, a period of 5 seasons punctuated by a Spanish dominant season in 2005/2006 during which they won both Uefa competitions defeating English teams in both finals. In total they dominated for 4 out of those five seasons, you're free to conduct your research as Wikipedia usually keeps a record of each UCL season.
One other thing you should know is that there was never a season in which both R. Madrid and Barcelona were knocked out by English teams (it might happen this season, who knows), Barca was knocked out on three occasions (Chelsea 2005, Liverpool 2007, Man U 2008) and won it for the other two seasons (2006, 2009), while Madrid was knocked out once (Arsenal 2006).
For the dominant seasons(2005, 2007, 2008, 2009), English teams had 2, 3, 3, 3 teams in the semi finals respectively which is why some of these newbie fans who heard tales of those glory days seem to think it was longer than it was. The first one (2005) wasn't really a dominant season as both semi final teams (Liv, Che) got there against the odds and qualified through tightly contested matches in which they were predicted to go out (you can also check this out), I added it for the fact that 2 of out four semifinal teams were English. This takes me back to earlier point above about English teams dominating for 3 seasons; they produced 4 quarter final teams in 2 out of those 3 seasons and 3 teams in the semifinal each season. The sad part about that dominance though is that they only won it once, so it's easy for those who never watched the UCL actively back then to dispute the dominance nowadays. I used to argue a lot back then, and the basis of my argument is this 'how can you claim that the EPL is the best when their teams can only win one UCL despite having 3 teams in the semi finals for 3 consecutive years?'
To put that in perspective, the first time a league did that (in the UCL, I can't say if it was done in the old format, but I doubt it) was 1999/2000 by La liga and they played an all Spanish final. This was followed by Serie A in 2003, also an all Italian final; can you see the true dominance here? We even saw an all Spanish final in 2014 and 2016 with just 2 teams in the semi final.
In the Uefa Cup/ Europa League, the same scenario occurred in 2006/2007 and 2011/2012 also an all Spanish final, so I'm sure you're now beginning to get the point.
My advise to you is to ignore these type of arguments as you're not going to win by any kind of parameter, most times when people start this kind of argument, I just point to the Uefa coefficient index (you really need to study this in order to grasp the magnitude of the Spanish dominance, it's one that has never been seen before). The Uefa website shows the index record for the past 5 years, but I'd recommend you look for the ones earlier than that if you're interested in that kind of thing.
I hope you appreciate my 'long essay' anyways.

HealthWhy Do BIC Pens Have A Hole In Their Caps? by Topiipii(op): 5:01pm On Sep 20, 2017
Ever wondered why there is a little hole on the top of a pen cap?

https://www.sciencealert.com/images/BICPen2_web.jpg

Some of you might think that this little hole allows the passage of air helping in regulating the ink pressure.

Others might claim that this little hole helps us while putting the cap on the pen by not letting the air bubble to be trapped inside creating a repelling force.

Both the above claims are partially correct.

But there is another big reason behind this hole being put on the pen cap.

Have you ever done this?

https://cdn1.wimp.com/images/sthumbs/2016/01/601650355f6fca41ca439c83cf04a80a_chewed-pen-caps-LOLworm1.jpg

I am sure everybody has done this at some point of their age.

The main function of the little hole in the pen cap is to prevent deaths by suffocation in case someone swallows the pen cap by mistake.

This little hole helps prevent more than 100s of deaths every year around the globe.

Nice write up

On the issue of Insurance ..... a friend has similar issues where the school was billing by default $1,500 per semester for Insurance . I saw a post here by Femi321 with this comment ; What the Hell? $1300? wow, you have money to throw around. Anyway you can use http://www.InternationalStudentInsurance.com but you will have to check the requirements for health insurance in your school first to be sure it meets any of the plans.

So I sent the link to a friend , he was able to get a quote for $300 for insurance , using the school requirement for insurance such as ensuring the quote covered Repatriation insurance coverage of XX amount and Evacuation insurance coverage of at least XX. He took that quote to the school and they accepted it . The $300 insurance then replaced the default nonsense of $1,500

it appears most schools chosen provders such as insurance or shipping are out to exploit international student , same comment I have for eshipglobal.com who charging Nigerian students to ship i20 at over $100 with DHL but when you go to DHL direct it is less than half . That exploitation but let me not digress

Vanderbilt is a top school oh, I know you are fully aware. I sha trust any decisions you make.

This was my 3rd attempt at PTDF. I guess 3 times is the charm.
I am not sure about that part, I am even yet to mail the prof as I got the mail late at night and I was about to leave for home then.

Vanderbilt is a super top school, they're way better than Colorado State at robotics and control systems in fact, but almost impossible to attend (>65k/year) without funding unless Davido gives me a share of his 30 billion.

I wish you success with PTDF, when are the results due?

So happy to hear from you bro. Happy your visa is in the bag as well.

I know they are having serious reservations about funding us head-on and stellar GRE or TOEFL scores don't seem to be enough till they get first hand experience.

Well, I have no doubt that when they see what you are made of in the first semester, the rest of your time there will be on a full-ride. That is, if you don't even get the scholarship on arriving there.

Congrats bro and all the best at Vanderbilt (?), I have a hunch that they provided your I-20.

Thanks again for the well-wishes. I am a hopeless Optimist, so yea, I am still expectant.

As for the highlighted portion, exactly what I have been observing. We don overcome already.

Why did you not try your hands on PTDF?
I chose Colorado State instead, did not request an I-20 from Vanderbilt since the fees would be too high without any form of assistantship. I got a mail from the Vanderbilt grad coord after my post that I have been assigned an advisor, but I am not too sure about him since his research areas are mostly different from mine. I considered him when I was applying but settled for two others profs one is now at Oregon State and no longer accepts grad students at Vanderbilt as a result even if she still teaches classes for the mean time, while the other seems to be retired or inactive now.

I did PTDF twice, the second one I did was really galling, I just decided to put my focus elsewhere.

So I just thought to update the house on my applications thus far. I tried with much difficulty to stay off Nairaland for a bit and after the first 21 days it got easy.

Thank you to those who kept asking about my progress and wishing me well. I scoured through this and the Visa thread(s) to see the mentions and I was teary-eyed afterwards.

Congratulations to DrHopeful (Now DrInView), Time2Smile, TowBayNah, Mfarad, Ndawe, Amofum...uhm...Seeker88, Ridsan....Ad infinitum. I know I am missing out a lot of important names but I am constrained by think-typing or type-thinking as the case may be.

I am surprised we are yet to hear from ChemEngr01, Topiipii and ReDazey...PonPon and a host of others. I had a lot of pages to cover so maybe I must have missed out on their updates. Has Nastydamus been issued his visa as well? I am rambling because I don't want to forget any thing or one.

Anyways, I don't yet have a story to encourage anyone with but it does not mean it still won't come. #TeamFall2017 is not a myth. I would use a separate post to explain my journey thus far and also my expectations going forward. I would try to answer as many queries as time can afford and will make it a habit (again) to visit the thread more often than I have in the last few months.
Glad to see you back!
I have disturbed all grad coordinators and even mailed some profs without reply. The grad cords at Vanderbilt and Wyoming told me they have no funding available, but I am still hoping that at least one of my TA applications at Colorado State and Tntech is successful.
I went to the embassy yesterday, visa was approved after a short interview.

I am still hoping for the best for you though.

P.S. I noticed that there are about ten students accepted for MS at Vanderbilt this fall from a mail recently sent by the grad coord, everyone there is either Indian or Chinese. I spoke to a former classmate who is a PhD student there and he said they take more Chinese and few Blacks/Indians because the ratio of profs follow the admission pattern, in fact they just had their second black prof.

I wanted to post this yesterday, but was busy reading this part from page 1 to the current one. I usually check my topics after work so there wasn't enough time to read through the entire thread yesterday.

My sincere thanks to the all those who posted their transcripts as well as the members who gave out tips on how answer questions. I prepared for this interview by reading the part 10 visa transcripts uploaded in the last part by justwise.

Visa approved yesterday morning, 7am appointment.

I left my workplace at 6.30am, because I had to drop my bag. I got to the embassy at 6.55am, promptly joined the 6.30/7am queue and went through the verification process. It finally got to my turn around 8.05am, I was interviewed by a young lady in window 2 and the whole process lasted for about 2 minutes.

V.O: Please pass me your passport and I-20

Me: Drops my passport with the I-20 and SEVIS fee confirmation paper inside the tray/bowl before realizing I was not asked for the SEVIS
confirmation, but decided to keep quiet.

V.O: Why do you want a Masters degree?

Me: (Paused for a bit) I want a masters degree because I am interested in carrying out research in control systems, my research areas
include robotics, UAVs, autonomous systems and machine learning.

V.O: So you're interested in machine learning?

Me: Yes

V.O: Where did you obtain your undergraduate degree?

Me: Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife

V.O: Why did you choose Colorado State University?

Me: I chose Colorado State because of two Professors, Professors Edwin Chong and Tony Maciejewski. Prof. Edwin Chong does research in
autonomous systems, network control stammers a bit here while trying to recall some of his research projects) and target tracking and
acquisition so I quickly move on to the next prof. Prof. Tony's research areas are in robotic control and robotic vision.

V.O: (She was typing while I spoke) picks white paper and passed it to me with my I-20 and SEVIS confirmation. Your visa will be ready in 3
working days.

Me: Thank you (and walks out).

Note: Those hustlers at the embassy are very convincing, it takes a lot not to fall for their tricks. My advice to anyone going for his/her interview is to ignore those people completely as has been advised several times here. If by chance you have to ask for directions, ask any policeman or security personnel you see around the area because those hustlers seem ready to capitalize on any opportunity they see.
