iamdannyfc: Sammy07:'gb' is in line with your original post, but it's okay if you want to continue to argue or maintain that you're right. Words like 'alangba, 'alantakun', 'nnkan', 'ijamba' etc are obvious exceptions. |

iWise:It's definitely possible, my list was strictly based on ECE and its ranking, some of those schools rank outside the top 30 overall. iWise:We seem to be on the same page even though my comments were limited to Nigerian scores. You're right in your rebuttal, unfortunately GRE still doesn't release percentiles for the overall score. As for the inferior comments, I don't like it too when people make comments like that. It reminds of Nigerian recruiters who like to claim that our graduates are not employable. I wish our scores are higher though, it seems to get worse every time the report is released. |
sheke01:No worries. |
iWise:Entry scores are usually lower than 320, that should tell you a lot about the number of applicants scoring that high. I did an exhaustive search of this a while back for Electrical Engineering, less than 25 of the top 164 schools in my list requested for GRE scores >= 320 and they're all in the top 30 ranking. I know mean is not a reliable measure and so does every person who has taken an intro class in statistics. I wanted to comment earlier about skewed data, but it will only lead to more argument. If the minimum score is 130 and the average score is 144.9 and 145.8, what percentage of people can you assume scored above 320? P.S. Of course, it is trivial. Are we supposed to be exhibiting our statistical prowess here? |
sheke01:The plot was based on what ETS released for every country, so I don't know the reason for the snide remarks. If you think 320+ is not unusual, then give us your proof since ETS report is not good enough. |
sheke01:The admit person is right, 320+ is unusual. Our average scores are 144.9V and 145.8Q from the 2018 report. The 2014 and 2016 reports were just a little bit better. https://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/snapshot_test_taker_data_2014.pdf page 20 (24 of 72) https://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/snapshot_test_taker_data_2016.pdf page 20 (24 of 72) https://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/snapshot_test_taker_data_2018.pdf page 20 (24 of 73) I took the liberty of plotting the values from the 2018 report and checked to see what percentage of people scored in the range 155-165 for both Quant and Verbal. Verbal: Mean: 144.9, Standard Deviation: 7.4, P(x>155) = 0.08615, P(x>160) = 0.02065, P(x>165) = 0.0033 Quant: Mean: 145.8, Standard Deviation: 7.8, P(x>155) = 0.1191, P(x>160) = 0.03434, P(x>165) = 0.00692 Total number of test takers: 6,861 Less than 1% of test takers scored more than 165 for both sections and 8.6% and 11.9% scored above 155. How is 320+ not rare? For anyone interested, I plotted the curves at: https://homepage.divms.uiowa.edu/~mbognar/applets/normal.html

George H.W. Bush, who in one term as president reasserted the U.S. as the world's lone superpower, rallying an international coalition against Iraq's Saddam Hussein in the first Gulf War and presiding over the fall of the Berlin Wall and subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union, died on Friday. He was 94. The announcement of his passing was made in a statement by his son, former President George W. Bush. "Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I are saddened to announced that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died," his son said in a statement released Friday night. "George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41's life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens," the statement read. Grandson George P. Bush said on Twitter Friday night, "He was more than a great man; he was a good man. His courage was matched by his compassion; and his dedication to country was equaled only by his devotion to his family." One of the most experienced public servants in U.S. history, Bush served two terms as vice president under Ronald Reagan before becoming president in 1989, capping off a career that included stints as director of the CIA and U.S. ambassador to China and the U.N. in the 1970s. A longtime pillar of the moderate wing of the Republican Party — he was national chairman after the Watergate scandal left the GOP in disarray — Bush lent establishment credentials to Reagan's conservative insurgency, becoming his running mate in 1980 after losing the presidential nomination to him. But for all of the foreign policy successes of Bush's lone term in the White House, it was a basic domestic issue that effectively undercut his shot at a second: his decision to raise taxes to address a deficit that had exploded under Reagan. Conservatives cried heresy, and repercussions still ripple through the GOP today. Serving as president from 1989 to 1993, Bush and his wife, Barbara, who died in April, remained prominent public figures long afterward. They stood apart as a genial reminders of a political era that many Americans preferred to recall as more bipartisan and cooperative than perhaps it really was. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/president-george-h-w-bush-dead-94-n942536 |
Remen: Remen:No it can't, they're different countries. You'd have to contact WES about this, but be specific with your questions/request when you do. A friend of mine had the same issue, they simply used the old transcript and then completed the process from their end. P.S. I mentioned being specific because, they took my friend's inquiries to be a sort of authorization and then transferred his transcript to U.S WES. |

kandiikane:It's not because you're a foreigner, they're just naturally useless. I say 'useless' for lack of a better adjective. |
lovelylad:I did read the article; my response is directly in line with the article. It seems you quoted me while I was editing my comment, I had to post an incomplete one before it gets pushed to the second page. It would also seem that you were too busy looking for victims to see that my comment had changed even before you posted yours. Please go back and re-read the post you quoted. iamjavadem:The headline is a double entendre; according to the article, the policeman was trying to check her panties, just not the one she had on. If you like, tell them you have the most shameful thing in your bag, they won't care all they care about is wasting your time as long as they didn't get that bribe. In my case, the driver of the bus received a mighty slap when he tried to goad the policeman, he even went as far as cocking his gun when it seemed the driver will not back down. As I said earlier, those who travel along that route are quite familiar with this issue. P.S. At the emboldened, really? there's no way you'd mistake that uniform unless you want to claim you've never seen it before. |
DrRasheed:They do that, it's a delay tactic they resort to if they don't get bribes; in fact, they'll tell everyone in the bus to come down so as to check your luggage one after the other. I experienced it in 2011, more than once as well. I'd like to think it occurs along that axis (the one that leads to the eastern part of the country), because I've gone through other routes without having a similar experience. Usually, they'd let the bus go if the driver is willing to bribe them, but how how many police checkpoints are you going to bribe before you get to your destination? |
jelel6:I'll quote this post only because the other one is long, but bear in mind that this reply is for both. You're kind of missing the point as regards the dominance we're talking about (unless your definition of dominance is different). The dominance is about the league and not about one or two clubs, in fact I mentioned Europe and not UCL, but you strangely ignored that part probably because you were in a hurry to pass your point across. I saw a statement yesterday about Spanish teams producing 18 out of the 48 quarter final teams in the last six seasons and I suddenly remembered that Malaga was actually one of them despite struggling in the league and having financial issues. Mancity can be the best team in the world and win the UCL 10 years in a row, but that will not translate into European dominance, other teams need to step up. You seem to have forgotten your own argument in which you mentioned checking how far English teams when you were talking about their dominance. The Spanish teams consistently produce 5 to 6 teams in the later stages and win a lot of matches that's why they have such superior coefficient. You really need to study how the ranking is done, it's very straightforward, just like how you'd calculate your CGPA, it's based on the number of teams you send to Europe and not UCL alone; I doubt you'd have been shocked I mentioned 8 teams if you really know how the ranking system works. P.S. La liga never dominated with two teams, Atletico played two finals in three years and you mentioned close, they only lost to R.Madrid, another Spanish team how is that not dominance? In 2015 (it could be 2014, I'm not so sure now) no Spanish team lost to a team from another league in Europe, all the teams that crashed out were knocked out by fellow Spanish teams, does that appear like something only Madrid and Barca did? |
