and why cant they make a public apology. why cant the UK apologise? the foundations of the british economy was laid on the back of black slaves especially from jamaica. on sunday here in cardiff they took us to some phoney conference to celebrate the end of slavery yet after all the talk nothing changes. they even acknowledged how the slave labor benefitted the welsh economy. so why not apologise what do they take blacks for. insult upon injury ![]() |
end of slavery did not become the begining of freedom. 200yrs after slavery we are yet to find freedom. today in cardiff, the white lady in a shop expects me to be a crook. young black males are expected to be uneducated unemployable vagabonds only fit for sex. try looking for a job, if ur color doesn't stop you, your accent will. anyway, the poverty in africa can only go when the rulers of the global economy decide to quench global inequality, . . . . . if they ever decide to do so. |
someone said we must not live in the past. i agree. but not when the present day injustice is a constant reminder of the past horrors. i once argued in this forum about 2 types of slavery, physical and economic. one is past, another is present, both are horrible, but one is worse. see this, over 12 million slaves were exported from africa, over 400yrs, about 18% died along the way, some more died while in the americas. today at least 2 million people die in africa alone from causes related to poverty. if the trend continues, in 400yrs about 800million people will die. the US and the UK etc are sitting on this global economy the ensures this poverty. and someone says it is not worse today. |
well mr sleek, that is a good dream. but, let me not sound discouraging, it is good and the uk has many good schools which do public health. but if you are thinking of a career in public health in the uk u may need to think again as there are no jobs in the Uk for non-EU citizens. things have changed in this country, nobody talks about the commonwealth countries again. everything is now EU and non- EU. and if you are a non-EU citizen u have very minimal chances of getting a job in the UK. unless u want to wash toilet anyway, the good side is . . .when u finish, u have good chances of getting a job in nigeria on ur return (and of course remember getting a job in naija depends greatly on who u know but with MPH from a british school ur chances are improved)also u may try ur luck in internationalorganisations such as WHO, UNICEF etc. in that case God help u the thing is those guys usually ask for about 3-5yrs experience b4 employing people. so whatever way,na God hand u dey ![]() this sounds discouraging right. but nevermind. if u know this ab-initio u'll be better prepared for life after school and it aint that bad. it may come easier. u never can tell, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . but it may be worse ![]() |

@donzman, another point is, in normal business, the dealers have profit as thier primary aim. but in healthcare the doctor has his patients health as primary aim.(never mind the malpractice by some doctorrs). under nigerian law, the health of the patient takes precedence. if a doctor feels that a patient will benefit more from another doctor he has to refer irrespective of wether the other doctor will benefit more financially than the 1st doctor. so bros, healthcare is very different from just ordinary goods/services. so dont treat it like any other business. like i said it is sacrosanct. |
@donzman, problem is you strongly believe heathcare delivery just like any other business. no it is not. it is special. it is very unique and a lot of consideration is done. in normal business customers come for goods and services and dealers advertise their goods/services but healthcare delivery is not like that. in healthcare u cant even advertise precisely. have u seen a private clinic advertising on tv or radio or even bill board or saying hey we can do this and that? no. u may say hey we are urologists. full stop. u cant say hey we are the best is this and that. the clients(patients) cant even say what is best for them. the supplier(doctor) determines what is best for the customer. can u apply that to a man who wants to buy a car? tell him no,u cant buy this benz, u have to buy the toyota. no. but the doctor determines what is done. so healthcare is not ur normal business. okay? |
@donzman which bank will give poor man loan of 20 million naira? which collateral will the poor man present. if banks give loans like that, then everyone will go for it. this is not like OBJ who had only 20,000naira when he left jail and "borrowed" enough money to restart his farm to what it is today. he actually probably "stole" the money. no bank in nigeria can give a poor man that kind of loan and the poor man cannot afford the kind of collateral that can settle that. |
hahahahabros, you are trying to create a hypothetical scenario. ![]() |
when i said free what i meant is what is called. . . . free at the point of use this means when u have emergency asthmatic attack u dont need to run around looking for money, u only run straight to the hospital for treatment. this method is life saving. private clinics in nigeria today are mere consluting centres b/c the general poverty in the country is affecting the doctors who run those clinics. what do u expect. how can a man who earns 1 million naira a year build a hospital that may cost about 20 million naira. |
![]() |
last sunday we learnt to forgive . the hardest thing in christendom ![]() |
if there is no TT in a casualty of a private clinic, the private clinic is held responsible for that. but again, it is the duty of the govt to hold that private clinic to account. that is why the govt set up agencies like the nigeria medical council to check and control doctors. if this agency fails in this duty then the govt has failed too. i.e both govt and private clinic is held responsible. most private clinics in nigeria are not upto the standard u are expecting b/c most doctors in nigeria dont have the wherewithal to establish that kind of outfit. reason. . . bad economy. whose fault? govt of course. how? we had it good in the 70s and early 80s then it was bungled and a lot of factors came into play leading to the present sorry state we find ourself. govt has at least a portion of the blame. decades of mismanagement. |
sorry bro, but some countries health is basically free. these are countries who understand the importance of health in a society. healthworkers cannot render their services for free b/c they dont have the wherewithal. govt can do that by paying the healthworkers to render the services to the populace for free. after all, do we pay the nigerian army to protect the nation? no. the govt pays them and they do it. but we pay taxes to govt. i'm not forgetting those who import the fake drugs. already they are criminals and i'm not talking about criminals here. i'm talking about govt and good citizens. i hold govt accountable for failing in thier responsibility. doesn't mean the individual doesn't have any responsibility at all. private individuals have their own responsibility too for their health. on my own i tackle health thru a preventive approach------> diet, excercise ,regular medical check up etc. govt may advice on good food but cannot force appropriate diet on the individual. while many people have been careless about their health, the fact still remains that the govt failed in it's own responsibility. if you knew how much is budgeted for health and how much is misappropriated u'll marvel. who takes responsibility for the deterioration of our teaching hospitals over the decades? who? |
