Gwan2: I am black but you see all this protest by the black community and riots going on freely is simply because of excessive freedom and how liberal the western world had open up to people. I have traveled to 9 countries and I must say, I feel more attached and comfortable mingling with white folks than the blacks. . Where in the world aside the western world can you travel from GOd knows where and give birth to a child and the child automatically become a full citizen enjoying same privilege as the indigenous people. Where in the world can you automatically get citizenship by marrying a citizen. I studied in the UK, your child automatically get access to free education, health care and a lot of facilities by the virtue of your student status in the west. A lot of students exploit the system especially those on scholarship by bringing their spouse and children while on study, thereby overstretching the limited resources. Go to the hospital and see indigenous white queuing for appointments that might take close to a month before they get access to see a doctor because a lot of people both foreigners and citizen had booked earlier. They were overwhelmed by such things and displayed decorum in votes to pull out of EU rather than following the path of fellow BLACK xenophobic South Africans displayed some time ago. . See, typically the black man in a white man’s country is so sensitive to how the white react, speak or even look at him and point to racism at every instance. I had a friend who worked in a bar and was dismissed because of his carelessness and poor attitude to work...before he left the bar he made sure he created a scene shouting racism racism. They were so courteous not to respond or engage him in a fight because they know most of the black Africans use racism to cover their shits.
. Now we have phrases like black excellence, black live matters, I am black and proud, black history....flip the coin and say something like white supremacy, white excellence, white rules and hell will be let loose from the black community pointing racism. What sort of inferiority can that be? . Lastly, you see this Arab countries or most Asian countries.. nobody do racism pass them, but why don’t the suppressed black population protest...because the freedom is limited and they make sure you understand from your first presence in the country that you are second class to them and nothing can change that. Anyway, as the saying goes...when you give somebody a yard he will later ask for a mile.
A man is only respected and modelled if he earns such. Look at the African continent, the poorest, the most docile, the most disease ravaged, the most corrupt, the most backward...who has ever earned respect by displaying such attributes?? You should try LIVING there before coming online to type nonsense justifying racism. Travelling and studying, of course they will treat you well and give good incentives to get your money. Meanwhile, ask the student in Nottingham university whose hostel mates were drawing hanging ropes on her door, leaving bananas in the shared kitchen what her offence was to deserve such. |

But oga, all these things you said doesn't justify a WHITE police officer choking a BLACK unarmed guy to death in the full glare of the public.
I may be black living in a white man's country but that doesn't in any way mean that I am less of a human. Don't mind him. People like that guy are actually the PROBLEM in this fight against racism. |

Don't get it twisted bro, there are bad eggs and racist among the whites, no doubt. Most times, due to the antecedents of many blacks that had stayed or are still living in the western countries...once the police are called upon especially by a white on a black, the white bad eggs or racist police assume you guilty until proven innocent and they might treat you as such, which i feel was the case of George. You are justifying racism. Gosh. What a disgraceful statement. Breonna Taylor, Botham Jean, Ahmaud Arbery are all people who have lost their lives due to reasoning like this being considered acceptable. It is not!! Just stop it! |

MERCHANDISER: Western media has made everything non_western evil. We need to sit down and look at it logically. Nigeria has been struggling to fight BH for decade, US has never shown any genuine support, infact, at a time they're were technically supporting BH by blocking every opportunity to access weapons. Whereas, the same US has been building sophisticated millitary bases all over Africa with several billions of dollars even all over islands in Africa. In a continent struggling to provide as basic thing as clean water, road, edu, etc. In term of infrastructural development, US hasnt built anything tangible anywhere in Africa despite her big economy and influence. On the other hand, China is building projects across Africa from electricity to train to Airport, roads, scholarships to Africans, etc even with their own money. Let's say we can't pay and they take over them, who would still be using those infrastructure, Chinese? At least they brought them here, so if we can't pay back and they take over them these things would still be in use by Africans and improve quality of life, just like every private business. US/Trump that everyone is supporting call Africans all kinds to unprintable names, visa ban, reporting weak sides of African nations and continuously ridiculing everything we do. The list is long. China hasnt done any of these yet, western media still find their ways into the hearts of Africans to hate Chinese. Sadly, enough some fake pastors joined this brainwashed citizens. Look at China, how many times have they tumbled African govt? How many nations have China invaded in Africa? How many times has Chinese embassy criticize our local affairs? Etc New York started have underground train in 1809, that's 200yrs, they never extended such to Africa. China started booming just 20yrs ago and they've extended everything technology they have to us, that have improved our lives; From phones, train, Good Airport, Naval ship, Telecom, Roads, scholarships, etc Africans must sitdown and think. China is not your enemy. China is NO BETTER. Let's stop being ignorant. Same China is racist towards Africans, treat Nigerians like slave in companies on Nigerian soil, piling debt upon debt on our blind leaders. China is not doing anything for free, they have a bigger agenda and it's unfortunate some of you do not see this |

If we can develop a cheap housing module in Nigeria, it will really go a long way to address our accommodation issues. As well as being a goldmine for investors.
You identified some issues - hot weather and wet wood that will be destroyed faster. With regular maintenance, cant that be addressed? Like regular treatment or replacement of damaged parts? The same way people patch cracked walls and floors.
As regards security, one can also re-enforce the house with iron bars or something, together with other security measures like alarm systems etc.
It may not be as standard as a regular house, but at least, people will have a decent place to sleep.
What do you think? Cant this be done? I like when people challenge the norm. You ask really good questions. |

abnot: Now I understand you. The laziness of banks is also a factor of environment. For long the government has kept interest rates at 14% . If I can take deposits from people and loan to government at 14% -18%(treasury bills and bonds ) for doing nothing why stress myself lending to the real sector with all the risks involved .
However that seems to have changed as the CBn has crashed the treasury Bill rates and introduced a 70% loan to deposit ratio. The result of this policy Is already being felt in the retail segment and with time businesses will be able to access credit .
Changing a system is very tough because benefactors of the old (bad) system will continuously resist any reforms to control there interests. For instance the sector needs another consolidation as our banks are still weak in terms of capital base . However it’s not an easy task as the current operators with weaker capital base will frustrate any attempt to increase the capital base requirement. For the size of Nigeria’s economy we need banks with at least $5 billion capital base for a start. Very explanatory. I totally agree with all your points above. |

Martinez39s: Lol. What have YOU done? What I have done is not the point; my point is emotional public/social media outrage CANNOT solve a thing. It's as harmless as a dog's bite. An effective campaign that will actually do something will be based on facts, will be strategic, will go political, and it will be a continuous effort not some emotional, trending protest that will die down once people's emotions settle. Yada yada yada. I wonder what is stopping YOU from coordinating the "strategic campaign". |

Martinez39s: Seems you only read to argue with emotions. Public/social media protest done to decry rape and seek the perpetrators of some selected rape cases cannot solve anything. Such protest is different from the campaign of putting measures in place, legally and socially, to check rape. The funny thing about public/social media protest is that not only do they not solve anything, they will die out within a short time.

ProfAmaben: The bolded should be reserved for religious publications and not for logical reasoning. I've never been afraid of criticism and positive criticism is always good. I mustn't be seen on ground for my voice to be heard, I mustn't endanger my life for a meaningless cause to seem cool. Their so-called advocacy is just a mere cacophony because they are only being emotional and saying NO More RAPING!!! which in my opinion changes nothing. Case closed. Imagine refering to rape as a meaningless cause. Please carry on with your epistles. All shades of rape apologists on this site. You are in their heads to know they are doing it to look cool? People like you are a good part of the problem. Apologists in disguise. |
Crime › Re: Uwaila Omozuwa: Protest Rocks Benin Over Rape, Murder Of UNIBEN Student (photos) by tot(f): 1:32pm On Jun 04, 2020 |
ProfAmaben: From an emotional angle, protesting in this manner shows solidarity and love for the dead, but from a logical angle, it is meaningless.
Passerby rapists would just be smiling and looking out for their next prey who's probably carrying a placard.
The solution to all these rape issues is just a robust database that would have the DNA of everyone. It is totally impossible for someone to rape another without leaving traces of their DNA on the person or even in the person in form of semen, sweat, saliva or even hair strands. The current Bvn system can be updated from only fingerprint to DNA samples of every Nigerian that has a Bvn number. A special forensic unit should be created or if existing, updated, under the Nigeria police force and this team would be well trained for advanced crime scenes such as rape and homicide. Fulani herdsmen killings, Boko Haram etc would drastically reduce because they can be easily caught with this technology. Upon collecting samples from the crime scene, it would be entered into the database and the serial number attached to each DNA would be queried to select the exact owner of the DNA.
Query: SELECT * FROM schema WHERE dna = 737373*73$$42
That's all. Everything you have outlined starts from people ADVOCATING for it, public pressure is part of advocacy. I don't understand people writing epistles on NL that only seek to criticize others' efforts. Come on! What step have YOU taken before criticizing those that sacrificed their time to go out there and protest. |

Kubernetes: Let me give u an example. If bank A has a total of 2m customers. If monthly maintenance fee is 1% of every withdrawal. If everyone amongst the 2m customers withdraw just #5000 in a month.
Now this 2m customers will be charged mnt fee for that month. =1%×#5,000= #50
Now for 2M customers = 2,000,000×#50 Now Gross mnt fee=#100M If the expenses incurred by the bank in terms of maintaining the channels in which these #5k was taken by the customers(e.g atm, USSD,app, otc) is #30M. It simply means the net monthly mnt fee income for the bank is #70M.
This #70M revenue stream is added to other streams like interest loans, alert charges, float income etc to added to the total net income of the bank. Its from this total income that preferred share holders are paid, retained earnings are ploughed back, technology is upgraded and dividends are shared.
Probably they should reduce it to 0.2%. Note that's it was when COT was cancelled that the banks brought mnt fee in order to remain in biz. If banks are charging to cover their costs like IT infrastructure, diesel etc., it is understandable but they are covering far more than their costs and using customers to "make profit", this is not a sustainable business model. Other countries do not charge in this manner so what exactly are they doing differently that Nigerian banks cannot? They are simply fleecing the populace. Also, account maintenance charge is only one of several, they charge all kinds of different charges. It's unfair! |

abnot: A typical ATM in the U.K. is powered by public electricity . In Nigeria backup power is provided along with security. What is the average cost of funds in U.K. ? What is the cost of Data ? These ATMs are computers constantly sending and receiving information to complete transactions. All these adds to the factors of production. Are ATM machines and spares manufactured in Nigeria ? In U.K. most spares are available in U.K. or within the EU where customs duty and other import fees are waived . MasterCard and Visa charges on majority of the cards used are settled in dollars (what is the strength of the local currency?) . If you run a bank in Nigeria how will you fund all these ?
Nigerians in diaspora always come online making comparisons here and there in the process condemning things. If a typical British bank comes to operate in Nigeria and replicate the model they operate they will not survive the Harsh environment No one is saying they shouldn't charge, the issue is they are charging INDISCRIMINATELY. N22 bn for goodness sake! Nigerian banks should become innovative and create opportunities for value rather than being intellectually lazy, flat charging a whole population as many charges as possible. |
