And by and large I have not been disappointed.

I have done some soul searching over the issue of why I find church services boring, and I have come to the conclusion that yes, I am disturbed by a demon, a demon that keeps implanting this seeds of doubt in my mind if not over the veracity of the word of God but the unanswered questions that many religious institutions avoid.

I have a very inquisitive mind, and I simply cannot just Believe based on a fad or general practice.

The substantial basis that can sustain a relationship with God, I admit now I do not have.

Perhaps, it is because I am searching for such a foundation, and I feel that Christian organised religion avoids those questions that I find Churches an arduous experience.

i dont think there's anything wrong with the way you feel. If you're bored, you're bored, no need to pretend or deny it. I remember discussing this same issue with someone awhile ago.

You're probably bored because the sermons/services arent intellectually stimulating enough. Not everyone is able to sit down and listen to the same thing week after week, and not mind. Especially if you're the intellectual type, with a hungry mind. Sermons are often directed at the emotions, rather than the intellect.

I dont know if the church services will ever stop being boring most times, but as some suggested, you could probably get involved in some other departments. You can also do some searching by yourself- check out religious sites and stuff.  Read up on the history of the church- its very interesting: all those caesars, divisions, colonies ( the Americas), and all.

you people should go back to sleep.  What has Oprah done for Nigerians?  her school in South African would have helped millions in Nigeria, until she come and help us she is just one of them, I have respect for her and her organization, but she need to spread her generosity to Nigeria not just south Africa.

can you explain your statement? because I feel Oprah can invest her money wherever she wants . If she likes, she can build a school in Papua new Guinea or in Finland. Did she collect her wealth from the Nigerian government? or is it Nigerian oil money?

You have some points: I do find myself checking out a lot of these virgin threads, mainly because I'm wondering why it's suddenly such a big deal on nairaland. Nothing to do with virgin bashing.

Its my personal opinion that many of the guys opening these threads have ulterior motives for requiring virgins.  Selfish ones, because many times you find that the guys who insist on virginity are the same ones who have slept with countless females all around town. They now shout virgin because they dont want someone who has been "used" the way they " used " women. of course not all guys are like this, but a significant number are.

And I just feel its not right to make a virgin feel as if virginity is something to be worshipped. Not so, unless you plan on remaining a virgin for your entire life- there is life after sex, no matter what some people are preaching around here. And being disvirgined by your husband or lover doesnt guarantee a happy life, like I said before.  its not only women who were sexually active before marriage who are getting divorced or having bad marriages: many of these cases include women who had only had one lover-their husband.

But to each his own.  Its good to be a virgin, but even the vestal virgins of time past were not always chaste.  And there will always be a steady supply of virgins, so after a woman gets disvirgined, if the man still feeds the need for virgin, he will get himself one.

first of all, this video is based on an article written by mr Reuben Abati, a fairly well known columnist in some circles. So maybe the beef should be with Mr Abati, although in his defence he may not have intended his article to be used in such a manner.

A man who wants to cheat will still cheat, even if he dates or marries a virgin. Virginity is not a guarantee of faithfulness.

I'm not saying virgins should go and lose their virginity, but just don't assume it will give you some special kind of status when push comes to shove. Afterall, once you loose it, there will always be plenty more women lined up who are still virgins. So if a man is addicted to virgins, there's always plenty available for him to sample, after he has disvirgined the one at hand.


This is why some people will even sleep with children, in their quest for  " purity". 


My point is, its good to be a virgin, but don't build your entire life around that fact. Its also good if you're a non-virgin, but life is not only based on these things, in spite of some people's preoccupation with virginity.

this may or may not work.
