the benin bronzes were heavily influenced by the arrival of the portuguese in the 16th century.

the ife sculptures predate that time.

Christianity EtcRe: Right Vs Wrong Christianity? by tpia1: 12:35pm On Dec 28, 2010
1. Religion = culture. Cant escape that.

2. Churches overseas (especially in america), tend to follow cultural/racial lines, with a few being interracial or intercultural.

You have polish, ukrainian, greek, ethiopian coptic, armenian orthodox, roman catholic, etc etc churches. Even AAs congregate in their own black themed churches most times (the AAs who are religious that is).

I used to wonder why nigerians had their own churches but not anymore. It's nothing new, imo. Or unusual.

3.
The reason for this dilemma is because I moved abroad and made friends with Christians who seem to be sometimes totally contrary to the ideals of christianity I had with nigerians.
true for most.

Different people thrown together by emigration.

A lot of people do abandon their cultural norms after leaving the country. Not much can be done about that, imo. It's all in God's hands.

4.
for example, after living in the US for many yrs, I don't believe anymore in nigerian witches. Yes I say nigerian witches because our idea of witchcraft is non-existent and considered mere superstition among many western christians
there are witches abroad. They just keep a low profile and as a matter of fact, the practice of witchcraft and other dark arts is on the rise in the USA.

5.
We are always trying to diminish the "powers" of these traditional religions and village demons. If they were indeed powerless, as we often times say, then why are we concentrating all our christian lives to fighting them?
your not believing in such powers doesnt mean there arent others who do believe in them and what they entail. As such, they may fight you even if you arent fighting them.

No need to be paranoid about it however, and I do get your point.

We all learn and experience new things everyday.

I know I have, and some things are almost too weird to be believed. But people have extremely long memories, I've found. These all factor in the aspects of nigerian culture you mentioned.

the gene tends to be recessive, it seems.

you usually only get this kind of thing when the degree of admixture is less than 1/2.

but of course "we somalis arent mixed, we're just the original humans" or something like that.

After Africans retreated south following the Sahara drying up and relentless foreign invasions, she lost not just direct control of her lucrative trade routes to the world (which later came to be held by Arabs), but lost connection to the interconnectivity zone, the ancient Mediterranean 'information superhighway', a geographically determined clearing house for global progress from antiquity.
well, you might have a point here.

could be worth looking into sometime.

If we threaten that unless the mask is returned to the palace, the entire country, beginning in Benin City, will convert from Christianity back to indigenous religions or Islam. . . . I bet you the Anglican church, the Vatican, the Orthodox and all other protestants will get involved and stop the sale and make sure the mask is returned safely to the palace.
haha- what a funny joke.

^^ Also in the same token, Nothing tells you that those cheerleading girls there, half of them dont have babies already outsides of wedlock and they have some baby daddy drama.

Might even have legal issues or misdemeanor and are probably not ready for marriage but just dream to be TI's baby momma and go to the next swingers party in town
we are not contradicting each other.

the issue here is there's a photo of about 10+ girls all lined up and ready for marriage/relationship and i simply theorized on the available options.

If you have a corresponding picture of single guys posing the same way, then post it for analysis.

@ cheerleader picture:

i do hope there are enough men for these ladies.

post a corresponding photo if possible.

cos by the time you line up the similar number of black men, let's say 4 of them will insist they can only date white or non-black females, 4 may have at least two baby mamas apiece, leaving only 2, out of which 1 might be in some legal wrangles, and 1 might be willing to consider actual marriage.

generally speaking and imo.

lord have mercy.

let's see what will happen now.

after ileke idi has tired and done a 180° turn, then the Igbo "warriors" and other non-igbo [the likes of beaf and co] will emerge from their hiding places and launch vicious, unrelenting attacks on yorubas and the southwest.

some other people [like tpia1] will be forced to respond to them, and that's when we'll start hearing about how tpia1 is always fighting and is such a bloody tribalist.

ileke idi herself will suddenly morph into a gentle rabbit and she'll tut-tut and shake her head as loud as the others, wondering what is tpia1's problem and why cant she just get along with people.

very correct.

it's called opportunity.

why knowingly subject the guy to such torture.

how many men can stand being teased like that every other day.

urges arent always under our conscious control.

and nowadays when every girl has a low cut top that exposes her full frontal assets. Haba!!!
