The British didn't establish any hierarchy there so they probably melted in better, unlike in Lagos where their heads were inflated and others were trying to integrate with them. i think you've been corrected about the last part of your imaginary scenario. and kindly stop rubbishing the returnees and what they experienced. they went through a lot, and you should respect that. enough of the unnecessary drama. |

ezeagu: I'd struggle to find an Igbo man named 'Alfonsus, Alloysius, Longinus, Donatus, Adolphus, Reginald', just like finding a Yoruba man by those names. Unlike Yoruba, I would struggle finding an Igbo man whose surname is Wellignton. such people could be descended from returnees, not all of who came from brazil, though quite a few did. |

I was actually told that in order to fit into the Krio elite in Lagos and other urban areas, many native Yoruba changed their surnames to European, Krio sounding names not true. and yes, the krios blended in with the general populace. i dont know why the same didnt happen in liberia though i think it did to some extent, in sierra leone. |

omoekoni: Female bankers in Nigeria are the best thing that ever happened to a guy. I visited Naija last year summer, and i walked into a branch of a Nigerian bank to open a domiciliary account. I met with the Head of the Customer Service, she was 37 and hot, two days later she was at my house, in my bed, it was absolutely fantastic. Didn't know Naija babes where like that, she didn't want any money, time or emotions. She just simply wanted to have fun, it was great. I have to admit i'm use to other girls being like that but i never expected that from a naija babe, I LOVED IT. I hope they will all be like that some day. gosh, what a horrible story. Are you helping the bankers or harming them? you know they'll still want to marry sometime and nigerian men dont like reading these kinds of tales about some professions? that's if the woman wasnt married or engaged already? hope you're lying!!! |

United Kingdom based Immigration officer and lawyer, Hadjia Monsurat Sunmonu
Sunmonu, who holds an LLB intermediate of the London University , was, before her election, an astute member of Oyo Defender Union-UK, a town union in the Diaspora which supports development projects in Oyo Township , her native place of birth.
She said she decided to join politics after witnessing the adverse effect of government’s neglect of infrastructure – fatal accidents on road, while on a trip home. “So, on getting back, I told myself, why don’t we get involved in governance to positively affect our people” she told Daily Sun. The former immigration officer is bringing the benefit of her overseas exposure to bear on governance. She says she was heading for the house “to assist underprivileged people, small business people and get employment for the youths”. Also to concern her are the cardinal manifesto of her party, ACN – vis: free education, infrastructure provision, agricultural development and environmental sanitation. http://www.zimbio.com/Nigeria+Today/articles/SFB96AvTfjS/CHANGE+GUARDS+OYO+HOUSE+HERALDS+HOPE |

Omatseye was wrong in his choice of language and does he have a problem with marriage or why would he say awo should come back from the grave to divorce his wife. Seriously, why do so many "youths" lack sense.
Won ti e moro so rara.
Having a typewriter doesnt automatically bestow sense on someone for real. There are more civil ways to get your point across and i still wonder if the whole thing is being staged.
Too much p.orn can do that to you i guess. Or living for nothing besides butts and ass. |

I dont support unnecessary butt kissing when someone has just started whatever it is you say he's doing. This praise singing is the bane of nigeria. Most of the people shouting his praises, are only doing so because they were "friends" with him before, or are trying to get into his good books. Like i said, its only an internet forum for goodness sake. If he's doing a good job in your opinion by deleting inciting threads, then thank him on the threads in question- i'm sure he'll get the message. Personally i havent seen any thread or post which matches the level of bile and venom which used to be the hallmark of this site, but if yall think he's showing exceptional effort, then please keep your commendations in one place, not everywhere. |

every tribe is in lagos, and every tribe contributed, imo.
even foreigners are in lagos contributing their own quota.
however, let's not lose sight of the fact that most of the wealth generated or otherwise, in lagos, isnt for philanthropic gestures.
people are there making money for their own selves, not necessarily with the intention of developing anywhere to be great or otherwise. That's where good government comes in.
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as they say. |

Politics › Re: Unemployed Nigerian Pilots Protest Influx Of Expatriate Pilots by tpia5: 3:16am On Jun 10, 2011 |
the full article: Over 30 unemployed but licensed Nigerian pilots and engineers have protested the influx of expatriates in the aviation industry and stormed the office of the Nigerian Association of Aircraft and Pilots (NAAPE) where they demanded that government should step in before the sector is taken over by foreigners.
The protesters took their case to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, where they demonstrated, lamenting that the incursion of expatriate pilots and engineers in the industry had rendered them jobless despite the fact that they are qualified personnel.
The industry exceeded its expatriate quota in spite of the dearth of manpower in the industry, one of the reasons why the Nigerian professionals are unemployed.
One of the protesters who did not disclose his identity alleged that aeronautic graduate engineers who are not even type rated on any aircraft are given employment by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to issue licence to aircraft maintenance engineers.
The aggrieved protester also accused the regulatory body of not conducting any licence examinations for upcoming aviation practitioners for almost a year, stressing that the situation was not good for the development of the sub-sector.
“With a deeper research, by design of their profession, aeronautic personnel are supposed to be in the factory where aircraft are being manufactured. Aeronautical engineers are destroying the future of the licensed aircraft maintenance engineers in the country.”
But the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said that it does not have expatriates in its employment, disclosing that the only expatriate working in the organisation is being paid by the World Bank.
The regulatory body dismissed the allegation that its aeronautical engineers are not type rated, saying that NCAA was rated 93 per cent compliant by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The protesters called on President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint a technocrat from the industry, preferably an air traffic controller, cabin crew personnel, pilots and engineers as the minister of aviation in this dispensation.
“In the air transport industry, aeronautical engineers belong to the designers and the manufacturers of aircraft, they have little relevance in the airline operation because they are not licensed to practise. In Nigeria, we only fly and maintain aircraft and the core professionals are the aforementioned professionals that are licensed.”
Addressing the aggrieved personnel, the National President of NAAPE, Engr. Isaac Balami, urged the protesters to be patient with the government and assured them that President Jonathan would listen to the voice of stakeholders and professionals in the industry by appointing core aviator as the next minister of aviation.
He said, “As far as NAAPE is concerned, you should be patient, because this agitation commenced not too long ago and we should not raise any dust in the sector. NAAPE and other professionals are trying to canvass for the appointment of aviation professional as the Minister of Aviation and I’m sure we are on course.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pilots-engineers-protest-influx-of-expatriates/92960/ |
