Culture › Re: African Script by tpiah: 2:36am On Jul 05, 2009
there are some indigenous Kushitic(?) scripts in Sudan which havent been deciphered yet because they're still trying to figure out the symbols.

The constant fighting in the area probably doesnt help either.

All I'm saying is the topic is about the greatest black person. It isn't about how you miss-spend your time as Oprahs unwanted defender.
I dont like cowards.

If you feel you have a beef with me for any reason, and you say you're a man, then grow some balls and face me squarely instead of acting in this petty and dumb manner.

Otherwise shut up.

I've explained and re-explained myself countless times on this thread. Put a sock in it for crying out loud.

Cant stand whiners.

If you have nothing solid to contribute then get lost. I'm not Oprah- take your issues somewhere else. Go to blackvoices and tell them Oprah is not great.

That's so interesting that you should say this, because 1958-60 is the period many people say Africa's development peaked.
In Nigeria everything, including education has been downhill since then angry
indeed!

Personally, I would find it very embarassing to say nothing good has come out of Africa either in literature or elsewhere, since 1960. Any enquiring outsider would wonder if there's something intrinsically wrong with the nature of the person or persons making that claim.
Travel › Re: I Think Its Time I Open Up Completely by tpiah: 1:02am On Jul 05, 2009
after you get your fake NYSC certificate and travel abroad, be sure to report back on nairaland and rain curses on Nigeria for being so corrupt and a failed state.

na today?
Health › Re: Cost Of A Treadmill. by tpiah: 12:52am On Jul 05, 2009
you can also get your exercise by walking the dog. I used to do that when I was small and lived in a quiet neighborhood. It was fun and my cousin and I jogged quite a bit down the roads (no cars in the evening and well paved). Nice naija memories.

However, nowadays its the treadmill. Its boring, true but you can watch tv or read a book while you're on it.

@ topic

why are treadmills so expensive in Nigeria? They have them overseas for between $300 to $5000 depending on how much you want to spend.

most black people I know, who use colored contacts, tend to stick with hazel or light brown.
Celebrities › Re: Check Out Michael Jackson's Crip (neverland) by tpiah: 12:39am On Jul 05, 2009
I watched the documentary but the furniture has been removed and the place is practically empty.

I would have loved to see the whole interior when Jackson was alive.

He had some smaller villages on the grounds, a lake, and so many other attractions.

Great place. Too bad it held sad memories for him. sad

imo, instead of looking for "pie in the sky" explanations for these things, aka Deux ex machina, does anyone have any ideas how these ancient empires communicated with each other.

eg how did Egyptian pyramid technology cross the Atlantic ocean to south America.
Politics › Re: Thins Fall Apart Is 14th Best Book In The World-the Only One From Africa by tpiah: 12:28am On Jul 05, 2009
so since 1958 no single African has been able to write good literature?

hmmm, that's interesting.

I felt you were actually changing the topic, especially by providing pictures of people who arent on the list and who the average person has never heard of and will never hear of. For goodness sake, we are discussing Mandela and Martin Luther King (in my opinion, MJ and Oprah don't even cut the list).
once again, reread the thread.

I was responding to someone who has problems with Oprah calling herself Zulu when she's supposed to be west African. He said Oprah has no business going to south Africa since she knows nobody there. Hence I posted some photos showing AAs have been all over Africa and especially south Africa long before anyone on nairaland was born.

If you have issues with Oprah or any other AA being on the list, take it up with the thread starter and Ezeagu.

This is the topic:
like I said, Ezeagu insists Oprah is a west African refusing to help west Africans and I believe I was telling him its not by force.

The post you just quoted wasnt made by me.

If you have a problem with Pee da vinci calling Oprah great, then please take it up with him.

What is this argument trying to prove? That Oprah is great? If so why point out these missionaries? How do they show that Oprah is great?
I believe I was having a discussion with Ezeagu who is trying to force his mindset on Oprah? huh

maybe you should reread the thread.

Against this background, the governors are said to have deviced the means of sneaking out of the states  to avoid pressures from their hangers-on, contractors, friends and associates known for their demands for money on all manners of excuses.
smh.

Big problem. One millionaire in the middle of ten thousand poor people, is a poor person.

That makes them more predisposed to steal money and be corrupt.
Culture › Re: Why Weren't/aren't There Any Tribes In Europe? by tpiah: 2:56pm On Jul 04, 2009
do 90% of the European "tribes" spend all their time fighting each other?

Or did they give it a rest.

therein lies your clue.

poster

Liberia and Sierra Leone did not precede the Europeans who created both countries.

and wetin concern you with Yoruba, freed?  This is the same thing that happened before oh.  All the scatterbrains scattering themselves.

Really, I dont understand why people will say they want autonomy, then turn around and try to rope others in their personal issues. What you need to do is have a role call- all who want to join you say aye and leave. Give them landed property on your side and live happily ever after.

Everybody thinks they're a leader messiah.

the term yoruba didn't exist before the europeans came.
i'm sure it did. i don't think the europeans made up the word yoruba. lol
I read somewhere that it is a corruption of another word the hausa referred to us as.
you're both partly right and partly wrong.

Yoruba was a term but not as widespread as it is today. People identified themsleves by their villages, not by their language and culture.

The slave trade vis a vis its abolition was a major or primary factor that united the Yoruba (after the wars of course).
Romance › Re: My Girlfriend Broke Up With Me Because We Dont Listen To The Same Music by tpiah: 11:51pm On Jul 03, 2009
do you make a habit of singing hiphop and yelling bitch every other sentence while doing so?

maybe she thought you were referring to her.

When she couldnt take it anymore, thats why she got on her kneels and begged you to let her go find someone who shares her dislikes and likes.

Count yourself lucky- now you can find a girl who shares your tastes and can dig it with you.

Looking at this map, there's a region called Zanfara to the north of Biafara. It also seems to have shifted west, into Nigeria.  There’s a little info on Zanfara but less on Biafara.

Am not sure what Fara or Far is supposed to mean, but there’s another “Farah” in Sudan  called Ain Farah, which is a historical site and was the capital of one of their ancient kings. This Ain Farah used to be a site of pre-islamic 10th century Nubian Christianity.

Don’t know if the key word here is Fara or Ara (as in Sahara).

neither do I understand why people are allergic to knowledge. undecided
