Fhemmmy:
If you talking of voodoo, Yoruba people are very good at it.
If you talking of 419, go to canada and see most of the people from Ondo how they deal.
talking of fraud and see how messed up the yorubas could be.
Nigeria has been led by Hausas and yorubas and what other form of terrible habbit could there be than stealing people's vote?
all the big corruption in Nigeria by our leaders are OBJ, IBB, Abacha and last time i checked, those are not Ibos, so get your fact str8.
You dont have to bash your tribe on behalf of anybody. undecided

If you're going to criticize Yorubas, you dont need to do it because you want certain people to feel good- since regardless what you do, whenever the time is ripe, they'll still bash you and your tribe/ancestors far better than you ever can no matter how enamoured you think you are.

If you want to criticize Yorubas, then do it independently, not because you want to "help" some people feel better. Did they tell you they dont feel good about themselves already?

I don talk my own- do as you please oh! God be with you.

then again, who knows- this is the internet where anyone is anybody.

if it is, its still in the developmental stages. Your best bet, if you're currently in Nigeria, is to check with an Orthopedic Hospital assuming they arent currently on strike.

Rivers State is pioneering efforts in this area, I think.

RIVERS HOSPITAL CONDUCTS FIRST KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY

A sixty year old woman, from Okrika in Okrika Local Government Area of the State of Mrs Stephen Oba has successfully undergone a knee replacement surgery at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt , free of charge, courtesy of the Rivers State Government. The surgery is the first high-profile case in that category to be undertaken at the hospital or any other tertiary health institution in Rivers State .

Speaking on the successful operation, the lead surgeon, Dr Jean-Luc Burrette from Belgium said Mrs Oba was a special case, selected out of the 23 cases before the team. He said, although he was in the state on a special mission to train doctors on knee replacement surgery, the case of Mrs Oba, was not a good teaching case but one that had to be done to give her a fresh lease of life. Dr Burette, who completed the operation with specialist physicians from Switzerland and Rivers State , said although the operation lasted for about 2 hours, others will take lesser time to accomplish.

Speaking on the achievement, the National President of Nigeria Orthopaedic Association, Dr Bob Yellowe, said he was grateful that the breakthrough was coming at a time when there is a strong political will to reduce the pain of Rivers people. He said the patient suffered from severe arthritis of the knee and would have been completed grounded in the next two years if the operation was not carried out.

The State Commissioner for Health, in his reaction said the state government has been spending huge sums of money for knee replacement surgeries overseas before now, noting that the success of the operation demonstrates the success of the Specialist Manpower Development Programme. “The state spends as average of N10m per knee for surgeries overseas, but now we can successfully carry out these operations here in the state for between N500,000 and N700,000, and it will be lesser”, he said. He also announced that when the modular theatre, now under construction is completed, issues relating to infection control will be handled in the state while more high profile medical cases will equally be managed in Rivers hospitals, stressing that “then the state will be a medical tourism centre”.

Information Commissioner, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke, who was on hand to witness the event, acknowledged the presence of miracles in daily living, describing the successful surgery as the miracle of medical science. Prince Nwuke congratulated the surgeons on the success of the operation describing the feat as a testimonial of the commitment of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to bring quality health care to the people.

Unable to conceal his happiness, the husband of the patient, Mr Stephen Oba, a retired NNPC staff, said he would remain grateful to Governor Amaechi for providing an answer to the excruciating pains that his wife lived with for several years.

Hip and knee replacements (especially important for the elderly) arent too common in Nigeria.

Having parents who watch you like a gawk means you have really limited access to parties and all those things teenagers do. My Dad then was a living terror! I still remembered the first time he caught me wearing a lipstick! I'll never forget the embarrassment
grin grin

the first time I saw my sister with lipstick at a school outing, I threatened to tell dad. I didnt though, but to my young eyes, it was as if she committed a crime, because my dad had a strict no-boys policy for her.  She would have been in a basket of trouble had he seen her that day grin

The rule was supposed to be for both of us but after a while times changed. We had the male visitors anyway- just that our parents werent aware, and hopefully the neighbors didnt tell. Some people like ofofo especially in the southwest.

You come home late from school and all the market women start making snide comments as you pass by undecided Very embarassing.

OMO IBO:
and what i and a few other pple are saying is you and others need to lose this condescending image of a nigerian maid.

when we were growing up, we had a maid who had as much rights as us the children. he went to school . . . . . a good school, and university.

i know a few familiies who did this too. abeg, make we stop all these rubbish.
Instead of getting oversensitive and telling lies about the plight of housemaids in Nigeria, count on your fingers the number of househelps you know who have the ability to write like the OP.

You know ONE housemaid who "had the same rights as you the children", therefore the countless other maids who are in dire situations, must be ignored. Not to mention the fact that if your housemaid were interviewed privately, would he confirm what you're saying here. I also know a couple of househelps who went on to higher institutions- does that mean every single servant in the country did the same. The majority of househelps do NOT get these priviledges and you know it.

In Nigeria, the mere fact that you're a housemaid already places you in a lower class than the family you're serving. In a country with such a high poverty level, what does that mean for the majority of househelps in the country.

If you feel people's comments about a housemaid not being likely to have such a good command of American English as well as having an email account and access to a computer, is condescending, then that's your prerogative.

Personally, what I find more condescending is your insistence that househelps in Nigeria are a happy bunch with "condescending" people like me only out to make them dissatisfied with their lot in life.

As if most naija men have major requirements for dating someone.

As long as the girl has the basics- boobs, and maybe butt, they dont ask further questions.

Kobojunkie:
I think it is time we accept that the government is never really going to magically wake up one day and decide to develop things for the good of the people. No need for people to wait for the government to do anything anymore. It is time we accept and understand that fact. If people want to ride bikes, and leave their cars at home, they ought to raise awareness in their communities, among friends, and then build on that. Imagine if people in, say Isiu where to come together at the community center and discussed making it easy for those who own bikes to ride back and forth. I remember some of my school mates back then did ride bikes to schools and cars would give way to bike riders on the streets. I mean it was either that or get your heart pierced with some hunter’s arrow. Lol
which part of Nigeria did you live in where people routinely shot arrows at each other? huh
