This is a follow up thread concerning the action I took after reading the comments.

I know I've failed as an older brother, to protect my siblings from their cousin. But I want to make amendments.

As such, the first action I took was to send my dad a text message, voicing out my displeasure on how he has been handling the issue regarding the harassment on my siblings.



And below, is his reply to the message, and my subsequent reply to him.

Apparently, the he took in the boy, so as to rehabilitate him. Meaning, the boy may have been previously doing this to his own sisters or may have attempted to do it to his sisters.

Did I also mention that he's a chronic lier? He lies even if caught while doing something he's accused of.

At this point, the only thing I could help my sisters with is to repair their door lock first thing in the morning.

I also woke up my cousin and sternly warning him of staying away from my sisters even in the daytime.

I also, intend to tell my Mallam, our Islamic cleric since my mom respects him a lot. And just maybe, he could talk some sense into her and my dad.

Thank you all for your advice. Your advices, has really helped me in order to become a better person than I was.

Any mis-step from him again, treat his fck up loudly!

Oga, quit peddling falsehood and ask questions or do your research before you make uniformed comments. He's spending at least 9 years if you discount the 2 years already served during the case. This is a US federal prison, not the UK or state penitentiary where he gets out after serving half the sentence. I also cannot see where the prison terms stated he was eligible for parole after a certain period.

even at that it still works out the same. 11 years. he served 2. thats nine left. 80 percent federal time cuts that to 7 years left. ad him being the best prison toilet cleaner and model prisoner 2 years in a row means he would get the early release pardon of 2 years. and so what he would sere is 5 years. out in 2027.

On a serious note, however, I think all that still falls under the umbrella of 'good behaviour'. I wager the earliest he'll be out is in 7+ years which will be sometime in 2029. May the good Lord spare us beyond then. Hopefully, us both will still be interested in Nairaland in 2027 and/or 2029 to revisit this..lol

I hear of this a lot. So does this mean R Kelly will also be out in like 13years? He had also used 2years and was eventually sentenced to 30years. Also, I can see the report specifies 135months. Does the fact that they used months override this position?

true, but they aren't armed with PhD's or MSc's. I think I may be racist. Most people don't get this, but I must confess for years now, I don't get why people fawn over white folks, it irritates me. Whenever I interacted with them, I wasn't rude or arrogant but I exuded the 'behave around me' vibe. I have an air of superiority around them that I don't have even around fellow blacks or Nigerians. I can't get over the fact that the lowliest of them comes here and enjoys like a king, and the best of us gets there and has to start from scratch to 'prove' himself. Back in 2011/2012 I worked with a blindness prevention team that did free surgeries for eye ailments in Lagos. Twice a year they would fly in a medical team to join in. On screening days, the foreign optometrist would only see 5 a day, our guys would see AVG 200 patients each. Our guys would get 10k daily, while the oyinbo would get, you know the answer. They would ferry them to Radisson Blu at the end of each day, and there was even a budget for a cow for their entertainment. We did all the work!!! Enough PHD and Msc holders that were tip-top often find themselves stuck in these 'menial' jobs with silly excuses like skills over certificates, but it just doesn't happen the other way round. That shit pains me a lot cos I don't think these people are special, so why?? Skills over certificates? Dem no recognise the education, years of experience with great transferable skills before dem come up with express entry ni. Shey na for those menial jobs those erstwhile experienced folks go get key skills that will take their career to the next level, doing Uber, delivery guy and all that. The king and slave metaphor that the guy you quoted used, is an overused phrase but it just still holds true for me. I just might b racist. ok o. Me, I don't eat indomie/golden penny...these our instant noodles sha. Too many chemicals. I hate it and don't believe it is a healthy food (tho I can't prove this) BUT my padi's wey dey avoid am na cost dem talk say be their reason not health. Also, I have read many posts from people here, either they are advising others or the people themselves are talking about how they have decided to reduce/replace Nigerian foods, and it is always for cost reasons. If you look around, you are sure to see these posts. It's all good sha.

For minimun wage job, at $12 per hour, when you work 8 hours your make $96. Net (after taxes) would be about $80 for a day's job. If you have an internet plan of $30 monthly, this amount would pay for 2 months plus.

Nigeria
For minimun wage job, at #30, 000 salary for a month, that equivalent of #1k daily. Now, if you have like you said Airtel at #5k per month, you would have worked for 5 days to afford your montly internet bill.

first of all, let's be clear, I'm not getting dragged into a comparison of country Vs country. That is not what I'm in this discussion about. I am not interested!!!

However, as a lover of intelligent discourse let us dive into this. The answer isn't absolute, but rather relative. That something can be afforded by people doesn't mean it is inherently cheaper in absolute terms. Stay with me. I am aware that indomie noodles is priced a certain way in the US and I'm sure other countries too. Some Nigerian foods are priced higher than other foods indigenous to those locations abroad as well. So if a carton of indomie is say $40 (3k+ here) or a plate of a Nigerian delicacy is (1k here) $30 at a restaurant, despite your clear minimum wage calculation for the two countries would you say that those foods are more expensive in Nigeria?

You may say yes, but I'll say no. Reason? Even despite that minimum wage, many can still keep up with eating indomie and the local delicacy, while typically a Nigerian in US wont. I know people who deliberately run away from indomie there, not because they can't afford to, but it isn't something they can keep up with, it doesn't even make sense when there are cheaper alternatives, and ultimately because it simply is not cheap, even despite that like you have analysed they can afford it based on the math. There are tons of posts here about ppl being encouraged to adapt to eating the foods indigenous to their locations rather than Nigerian food cos it ain't cheap. Just look around travel section you'll see them. But based off this math, they can afford it, but yet can't afford it. It's a catch22 sometin.

Putting figures into it, for $30 a month, you can unlimited 5G internet plan. How is this expensive ?
