Nigeria is a great country no doubt, but at times certain things beats my immaginations, just take a look at the arrest and trial of the those who attempted to murder Ibru. Now think of all the murders that has taken place in the last few years, till date no one has been charged for those murders. One of those, on whose life an attempt was made, was among those murdered in the years under review. Yet we have some men behind bars for close to 9 years for attempted murder, whereas, no one is doing anything to unravel the murder of these other men. I wont tell you lies it annoys me each time I see this case on TV. Someone should help me here; a lawyer prefereably an attempt to commit murder and murder itself which is a greater offence? |
1) Why would Lagosians leave the cars at home?? Even here in the city, with all the mass transit and taxis, people still drive. Check out NY with it's metro system and all. I think maybe fixing all the roads will greatly move things forward cause I suspect that the reason why the hold ups are bad is cause many of the roads still need to be fixed and fast.Kobojunkie, I agree with you here, more should be done on road repair/maintenance not discouraging people from using their cars. Drainages are not cleared bad portions of the roads are not well repaired, what we see are some men with trucks and wheel barrow as road contractors, after, billions will be quoted as being spent on road repair. What baffles me about the whole revelations is the anti-corruptions propaganda of OBJ administrtion. Why do we just love to lie and play holier than thou? It is sickening!!!!!!!!! |
Following revelations that a firm, Energo Nigeria Limited, belonging to former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, was involved in a failed power contract, Nigerians have called for his arrest and prosecution. Managing Director of the firm, Mr. Dejan Gerotic, had, while testifying before the House of Representatives panel probing the power sector, disclosed that Abdulsalami became the chairman of the company in 2000. The company, investigation revealed, got a N19 billion transmission substation contract that has achieved less than five per cent implementation, even after collecting N13 billion of the contract sum. Reacting to the revelations, the Convener, United Action for Democracy (UAD), Comrade Tunde Aremu, said all those indicted in the current probe should be prosecuted and be made to refund all the ill-gotten money. Aremu added that the property of those indicted should also be confiscated. “It is a criminal act and those indicted should be prosecuted and made to refund the money,” he stated. He called for the strenghtening of the laws setting up the anti-corruption agencies to recommend strong punishment for all those convicted of corruption. “There is the need for the National Assembly to introduce stiffer punishment that will sanitise the system,” he added. In his own reaction, a Lagos-based lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome called for the arrest and prosecution of everyone found to have contributed to the sorry state of the nation’s power sector. Reacting to the indictment of Gen. Abdulsalami in the power sector scam, Ozekhome called for the arrest and prosecution of everyone involved in the scam. “They no longer enjoy immunity. So, they should be arrested and prosecuted. They should also be made to refund the money. It’s shameful that a former head of state will get himself involved in such,” he said. Commenting on the issue, the national coordinator of the Coalition Against Corruption, Comrade Debo Adeniran, called for the arrest and prosecution of Abdulsalami and others involved. “All those involved should be arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. There should be no soft landing. The full weight of the law must be brought to bear on them. “There should be no plea bargaining as witnessed in the trial of the former Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun,” Comrade Adeniran explained. http://thepmnews.com/article/797 |

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan this morning set aside the ruling of the Ogun State Election Petitions Tribunal which struck out the petition of the ANPP governorship candidate, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, challenging the election of Otunba Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State in the 14 April, 2007 governorship election. The court ordered the tribunal to commence a fresh hearing of the case on its merit. The tribunal had in its judgement on 19 October, 2007 ruled that Amosun failed to supply details of his locus standi to challenge Daniel’s election. The tribunal accused him of not stipulating his political party and right to challenge the election of Gbenga Daniel. He was also accused of filing his petition six days after the mandatory 30 days, required by the law to do so. But the Appeal Court led by Justice K.B. Akaahs, said Amosun has satisfied the necessary conditions which qualified him to challenge the election of Gbenga Daniel, adding: “I hereby set aside the ruling of the Ogun State Election Petitions Tribunal delivered on 19, October, 2007 and hereby order a commencement of fresh hearing.” However, earlier this morning, palpable tension enveloped the premises of the court as hundreds of politicians thronged the court for the judgement. http://thepmnews.com/article/752 The storm is gathering, this is going to be another interesting story to follow. Most people felt Amosun was not fairly treated in the previous rulling by the tribunal. Dare to be a Daniel? |

A Nigerian diplomat has been robbed in a South African hotel in Pretoria. Mr. Ifeanyi Omoekachie, Minister in charge of Consular Affairs, who confirmed the theft to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Pretoria said the diplomat, who was in transit to Nigeria from Namibia, lost "huge sums of money and vital documents.' He said what was more worrisome was that the incident happened at a hotel that was within the diplomatic enclave, adjudged as one of the safest places for diplomats. "This incident is seen as one of the wide range and spate of robbery incidents against diplomats in South Africa,'' he said. He threatened to petition both the South African hotel grading council and the Tourism Board, the regulatory bodies for hospitality business in the country for the alleged "uncaring attitude and act of insensitivity displayed'' by the hotel management over the incident. NAN investigation revealed that unknown persons broke into the diplomat's room and made away with his two suitcases containing money and documents while he was out. Contacted, the General Manager of the hotel declined to comment on the incident. The head of the diplomatic police unit of the South Africa police service, Mr. Preston Daniels, confirmed the incident. He said it was unfortunate that the incident had to happen in such a highbrow hotel, adding that investigation had commenced. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/breaking_news/article01 |

Former United States Under-Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Karen Hughes has predicted victory for the Republicans in the presidential election billed for later this year should Democrat presidential hopeful Barack Obama succeed in edging out rival, Hillary Clinton for the party's nomination. In a chat with journalists in Austin, Texas, she said in such eventuality, the odds favour Mccain for the post based on U.S. security issues in respect of which he has been able to secure considerable confidence from the American would-be voters. Hughes pointed out that although Obama is loved by Americans, he is not considered the most liberal in Democrat circles as he is too far to the left. "It is important for the world to understand how Americans felt after the September 11, 2001 attack. Many Americans could not believe that as a super power, their country could receive such a deadly blow. This thought has continued to affect issues on security, immigration, economy and other social issues," she said. Hughes, a long-time adviser to President George W. Bush has described the battle between Clinton and Obama and the evolving scenarios in securing their party's nomination as "amazing and democracy in action." http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/breaking_news/article01 Do you think Obama has any chance against McCain or will fear of terror turn against him? |
Unfortunately, Africans are only good at destroying things. Nothing will be re-built for the next 3000 years. Haaaabaaa mallami! take it easy now |
The dust of Tuesday judgment of the Court of Appeal which unanimously awarded victory to President Umar Musa Yar’Adua in the controversial April 2007 presidential elections will take long to settle.http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2008/mar/01/national-01-03-2008-001.htm Yet another reason why I was suspicious of the promotion; he was not the most senior appeal court judge! |

some of you talk the way you do because u don't have kids - u havent rocked your crying baby to sleep, fed her and watched her make a mess, helped her walk, helped her run, taught her her letters, felt your heart constrict when she said 'dada' the first time, soothed many scraped knees, cleaned many baseless tears, but had to take her doll as seriously as she would, followed her progress, have her break your heart and still be your source of joy, want to give her everything you have if u think it'll make her happy, or successful,Well thot out I must confess, it won't be easy which ever way the man goes. But you that it has not happened to how are you living your lives. There may be no DNA but God sees all so becareful how you live. |

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga have signed an agreement to end the country's post-election crisis. At a ceremony in Nairobi, the two men put their signatures to a power-sharing deal brokered by ex-UN head Kofi Annan. A coalition government comprising members of the current ruling party and opposition will now be formed. Some 1,500 people died in political violence after Mr Odinga said he was robbed of victory in December's polls. International observers agreed the count was flawed. Violence has mostly receded, but tensions are still running extremely high. Negotiations between the government and Mr Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lasted more than a month, stalling several times. Discussions centred on the creation of the post of prime minister, which will be taken by Mr Odinga, who heads the largest party in parliament. Speaking after the deal was signed, Mr Annan said the division of posts in the new government - including the new position of prime minister and two deputy prime ministers - would reflect the political parties' strengths in the National Assembly. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7268903.stm Jaw jaw is better than war war, I think this is good for Kenya and Africa at large. |
To think that kanu will be like 45!It is simply not fair to malign where there is no reason to do so. You think every man out of Africa is your grand father? Or is that how low you dropped your own age? I have a mate in the University who attended secondary school with Kanu. He said Kanu left Secondary school in 1991. That my friend was born in 1974. Plus or minus you can place where Kanu is likely to fall into. So when you talk pse for sake of dissency take it easy there is no gain in bad mouthing people. |
