This shows your ignorance of the lady and the American system. Clinton has been in the public service even before her husband became president. She a lot of pro-bono work in Arkansas and championed a lot or pro-peple projects as the fist lady. When her husband became president, she championed health care system for all, but was defeated by the Republicans, Insurance and Pharmacitical companies, who knew they could no longer gouge the people as they have done for decades. Health care scheme is now adopted by Republians and the general public of Americans as a progressive step for America, which in the long run, will promote health and production.
A Fulbright scholar like her husband Bill, Hillary is a very smart and shrewd lawyer, politician and nationalist, who will make a good, logical and very good president for America, even without imput from Bill (who happened the best president of the last three decades.
Even though I think her handlers are making her appear to hate Obama and making her campaign too negative, she is a better person than that. She voted to fund the Iraqi war because that is what the American people wanted. The people believed approving the funding is akin to support for the soldiers and not necessary the war effort itself. The war is clearly Bush's baby and his alone. The American people nowknow what a mistake it was and are clamouring to have the soldiers brought back home and Hillary will do just that. 'Cos you are there I think this is the major post on this topic, I have soft spots for her, that I cannot deny |
Politics › Re: Alao-akala's Contempt For Awo by Truequest(op): 6:36pm On Jan 10, 2008 |
The Oyo State Governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Wednesday explained why he replaced the statue of the late politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, with that of an Unknown Soldier.
He said that as a beneficiary of the free education policy of the defunct Action Group, he held the late Premier of the defunct Western Region in high esteem.
Alao-Akala was reacting to the gale of criticisms that had trailed his decision to replace the demolished Awolowo’s statue opposite the Government House with that of an Unknown Soldier.
The governor had on Monday, unveiled the new statue, which he said was constructed to remember the fallen heroes of the first and second World Wars as well as the country’s civil war.
In a statement e-mailed to PUNCH by his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, the governor accused his predecessors of playing politics with the replaced statue .
Rationalising his administration’s decision to commit N17.5m to the renovation of the Remembrance Arcade, Alao-Akala said it was meant to revert to the master plan of the city.
He said his decision was also aimed at dousing the ripples generated by the replacement of the original Unknown Soldier statue with that of Awolowo by the administration of a former Governor of the state, Alhaji Lam Adesina.
According to him, a former military administrator of the state, the late Maj.-Gen. Abdulkareem Adisa, had ordered the construction of the Unknown Soldier cenotaph in front of the Government House.
This, he said, was meant to replace the first Unknown Soldier statue constructed at the Dugbe cenotaph, which was removed because of the congestion in the heart of the city.
On his assumption of office in 1999, Alao-Akala said that Adesina ordered the demolition of the military statue on the premise that it connoted military hegemony.
As a democrat, he quoted the former governor as vowing not to allow such statue in front of the Government House where he would reside. This informed its being pulled down.
For the better part of the four years of his administration, he said Adesina did not deem it fit to replace the statue with that of Awolowo until two days to the end of his tenure in 2003.
When the Awolowo statue was pulled down just as Adesina’s successor, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja was being inaugurated on May 29, 2003, Alao-Akala quoted his boss as having ascribed the action to the handiwork of unknown persons.
Although Ladoja, claimed to be an Awoist, he said he failed to re-erect the structure during the three years and one month he spent in office.
He said, “What the Akala administration has done is to stem the controversy surrounding the statue by going back to the original plan for the construction of the Unknown Soldier arcade in front of the Government House.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Obafemi Awolowo lives in our heart as the most enduring testimony of the greatness of the Yoruba race.
“Governor Alao-Akala, as a beneficiary of the free education, remains committed to continuing the enduring recognition given to the statesman. That is the defence of his excellency the excutive Governor of Oyo state, Ladoja or no Ladoja I think Akala should have just done the right thing. Ogbomosho or Oshogbo is not the case now. |

Politics › Alao-akala's Contempt For Awo by Truequest(op): 5:15pm On Jan 09, 2008 |
On Monday, the Oyo State Governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala in an apparent contempt for the late political sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, replaced his statue with that of an unknown soldier.
Awolowo’s statue was erected by a former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adesina, in the twilight of his administration, in front of the Government House at Agodi, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The statue was, however, allegedly demolished by political thugs believed to be loyalists of controversial Ibadan politician and PDP chieftain, Chief Lamidi Adedibu. The statue was demolished in 2003 during the inauguration of Rashidi Ladoja as the Oyo State Governor. For four years nothing was done to erect another statue to honour Awo, a respected statesman who fought doggedly along with others in the colonial era to ensure that Nigeria gained independence from Great Britain.
One expects that Alao-Akala should have recognised Awo’s contribution to the development of then Western Region of Nigeria which had Ibadan as its capital. It was Chief Awolowo who first introduced free education to the region as the premier. He was also the brain behind the establishment of the first television station in Africa, which was situated in Ibadan.
Awo was a charismatic leader with large followers. His intellectual prowess was what Yakubu Gowon considered in his days as military head of state when he appointed him the Federal Commissioner for Finance during the Nigerian civil war years. It therefore amounts to sacrilege and a brazen display of impudence and arrogance for Alao-Akala to replace Awo’s statue with that of an unknown soldier.
In trying to explain the rationale for the unveiling of the new statue, Alao-Akala said his government did that to appreciate the role of the nation’s fallen heroes in ensuring the peace and unity of the country. But it did not occur to the governor that a soldier's statue erected in front of a civilian Government House is an irony of sort. It probably betrays Akala’s disposition as a civilian governor with dictatorial tendencies similar to those of military rulers, and thereby sends wrong signal to the people he governs.
The revelation that the statue was constructed at a whopping cost of N17.5 million is quite ridiculous, annoying and leaves much to be desired. It is an eloquent testimony to the fact that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is a party given to wastefulness and corrupt tendencies. Alao-Akala’s action has been condemned by prominent citizens. Lam Adesina described it as sacrilegious and regretted that anti-democratic forces had taken over the reins of the Oyo State government. His predecessor, Alhaji Ladoja, said the step taken by the governor showed his low level of reasoning and mentality regarding democratic norms.
The former Kwara State governor, Cornelius Adebayo, lamented that Alao-Akala was tampering with the collective history of the Yoruba by his action. We share these sentiments. Hence, we call on the Alao-Akala-led government to remove the unknown soldier's statue which must be constituting an eyesore to well-meaning citizens in Ibadan. http://www.thenewsng.com/modules/zmagazine/article.php?articleid=21672I think this is rascality taken too far. |

Politics › Atiku Plans Return To Pdp, Guns For Bot Chair by Truequest(op): 11:05pm On Jan 04, 2008 |
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is planning to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that expelled him last year in the wake of his political face-off with the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo. P.M. News can authoritatively reveal that Atiku’s return to the PDP, of which he was a co-founder in 1998, is almost complete and will be consummated in the next few weeks.
Sources told P.M. News that Atiku has been in consultations with President Umar Yar’Adua on this planned return and one of the conditions to facilitate the move has been fulfilled by Yar’Adua with the sending of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes, on study leave to the Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, in Kuru, Jos. It is believed that the course may be a way by Aso Rock to ease Ribadu out of the EFCC job.
P.M. News sources said Atiku has personally applauded the action by the president and declared a truce.
“Atiku cannot forgive Ribadu over his role in his political battle with his former boss, with the EFCC offering itself to be used to humiliate him and scuttle his presidential ambition under the banner of the PDP”. In the run up to the 2007 poll, the EFCC had come out with an indictment of Atiku over mismanagement of the finances of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund, then under Atiku’s supervision. Atiku’s spirited fight that the indictment was a witchhunt did not stop Obasanjo from ensuring that Atiku was expelled from the PDP and excluded from running for the presidency on the PDP platform. ,
P.M. News sources said returneeAtiku may vie for the position of chairman Board of Trustees of the PDP, a position now being occupied by former president and Atiku’s estranged boss, Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Atiku wants to give OBJ the Zuma treatment at the convention of the party’, said a source close to the deal, referring to the recent convention of the ruling African National Congress in South Africa, where a disgraced former vice-president, Jacob Zuma, defeated the sitting president Thabo Mbeki in the race for the leadership of the party. If this is true then I think politics is simply mysterious |

The Imo Police Command yesterday returned a wallet containing cash and valuables estimated at 100,000 pounds sterling (about N24.2 million) to one Chika Olejeme.
Olejeme had lost the items at Egbeada, near Owerri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the contents of the wallet included a visa and Master credit cards.
Olejeme, who returned from his base in London, had disembarked from a vehicle conveying him to the village to ease himself.
Unknown to Olejeme, who came home for the funeral rites of one his relations,
his wallet containing the said amount and items had dropped from his pocket.
It was later picked up by a police patrol team.
The command’s spokesman, ASP Linus Nwaiwu, told NAN that Olejeme returned to the spot the following day to look for his missing wallet.
He said the same patrol team that picked up the wallet was also on duty when he came looking for the wallet.
Nwaiwu said that when the team saw him, it suspected he was the owner of the wallet recovered the previous night.
Consequently, the team invited Olejeme and found that he was the rightful owner of the wallet.
He was invited to the command headquarters and the wallet given to him.
‘’We want the public to know that in times of distress their closest friends are the police; they should have confidence in us,’’ Nwaiwu said Reacting, Olejeme commended the police for the gesture, saying that it had restored his confidence in the force.
‘’Two thousand pounds cash, credit card, Master card and other valuables all recovered intact! This has shown that many good things can come from the police,’’ he said.
Also reacting, Olejeme’s friend, Enge Kamil, a Namibian, said her negative impression of Nigeria had changed due to the action of the policemen.
Kamil said: ‘’I want this to go into the Guinness Book of Records because it is rare to see something like this happen.’ Men believe me I think better days are here two days ago it was IBB today it is the Police |

Politics › Pdp Is The Problem Of Nigeria -ibb by Truequest(op): 7:44am On Dec 22, 2007 |
What the PDP requires at this very moment is complete overhaul or if you like, restructuring. We can play proper party democracy if the PDP realises the need to purge itself of the excesses that have undermined it and, through that process, bring back those genuine, committed, credible and patriotic Nigerians who founded the Party but were hounded out by no ordinary design of their own. As it is now, the PDP has no discipline, no orientation, there is no grassroots linkage, some kind of disconnect between the party and the people. This culture of substitution of candidates at all levels of elections undermined the level playing field which any electoral process should boast of. The kind of malpractices within the party has created political enmity, internal divisions, cleavages and bad blood among the members and leaders of the party. The political infrastructure are weak, people of proven integrity have been shown the way out. The way to recover the party from this self-imposed affliction is to seek genuine reconciliation of all aggrieved persons, irrespective of status, to properly reposition the party. As it stands today, the PDP is the problem of Nigeria. There is need for attitudinal change, proper re-orientation and restructuring. There are many credible people out there who wish to return to the PDP fold but the present reality is not motivating them to do so. I read this story from the sun this morning, I might be having other views about IBB but I think he is right here. |
