Following your logic, it is also not permissible to treat snake bikes since the anti-venom is derived from snakes.
This implies that anyone who is bitten by a snake must be left to die a slow and painful death, according to your logic.
Thanks for such a great insight. |

namikaze: valid argument, but what about something like documentdb provided by both aws and azure, they do the same thing as mongodb but are generally faster, cheaper and easier to setup? Same as firestore. Non relational databases have their own peculiarities and should only be deployed to projects that benefit immensely from such structures. I don’t quite get why i would deploy a mongo db instance only to now hack at it with mongoose. I think firestore is the cheapest of their bunch but I might be wrong. I am more skewed towards psql. I want to be able to ‘see’ the data in my head as i write the codes. |

Unbiased1: The kind of game you are asking him to build (Biafran war game) is not the kind he can build at his level now. A war game is like a Battle Royale game and requires 3d artists, programmers, knowledge of gaming engines, high end PC with high-end graphics cards etc. I'm not sure the op is financially buoyant enough for such project. If you know how much time he will spend creating the models alone if he decides to go solo in the game making process, you will pity him. Do you know much 3d artists sell their works or how much they will charge you to join your team of designers? What of the amount of money required to purchase the necessary hardware and the monthly cost of electricity to create the game. Game development is not easy especially when you want a high class game like a war game. You are very right. It is expensive, not only in terms of cash but in skills, time and commitments. But no one says it should be his resources. He needs to build a prototype. A small part of the gameplay that represents the concepts and ideas. This needs to be of very high quality. He then can seek for funding to expand on this idea. He would need a business strategy to ensure that investors get returns. There are angel investors everywhere who are ready to fund viable projects. I have seen guys with just a laptop and nothing else get funding for their projects. The most painful part of all this would be the day someone launches this project with less resources than what he has and he regrets not even trying. |

namikaze: What do you think? The mongodb hype seems to have died down overall. These days there seems to be more better (arguably), cheaper, easier alternatives coming up, usually offered by cloud providers. would you rather use mongodb for a new project or any of the newer dynamodb, cockroach db, cosmos e.t.c databases ? Relational databases are time tested and are actually the more practical option in many instances. Imagine the headache involved in deploying a banking app with mongodb. I choose distributed relational databases for most of my deploys now due to their resilience. They are set up and forget systems with automated back ups and guaranteed resilience. Mongodb is still a great choice for projects with many sub data types like articles and comments. Mongodb would work well with a site like Nairaland for example if Seun plans on upgrading the comments to allow upvotes and downvotes, like in Reddit. |

GloriousGbola: The way to impress your manager is to make him/her look good in front of management. That way when your manager advances he/she will vouch for you.
This assumes your manager is a human being and not an arsheole tho. I have seen some really fked up human beings in mgt. Are you working for the manager or working for the organization? You have your KPI, your manager has his own KPI. Deliver on your KPI and let him deliver his. When everyone delivers on their KPIs, the organization has delivered. Your model is a clusterfuck of different cults where gossips and backbiting reign and everyone sees the other as competition for the overfed manager’s patronage. |

GloriousGbola: This is the worst advice you can give anyone
Technical competence gets you the job, emotional intelligence gets you ahead. This applies EVERYWHERE. Because you will always reach a point where it becomes about managing people to get results. If you cannot manage your boss, you will not be able to manage a team of subordinates.
Otherwise you will wind up bitter as you see people who are not particularly smart or intelligent get ahead. Always follow the context. The OP surmised that people should please their managers to get favors, which could be positive recommendations. My response is to counter that. This is not about people management and your points are way off from the context. Many companies have failed because they had a culture of cult worship. If you are good at your job, you would be valued. If you are not valued where you are, simply go to where your skills would be valued. As a manager, I appreciate subordinates who can deliver on their JDs and KPIs more than those that are always telling me my new sneakers are the best Nike ever made. There is a limit to where foot licking can take you. |

Except you are Linus Torvalds, your dick-wagging claims of using gentoo sounds so absurd and out of place that one begins to understand your inferiority complex . There are over 600 active linux distros which were built by humans…not aliens. Anyone with time and skill can fork his own Linux and start tweaking. This does not give you Voltron or SuperTed powers. LittleBigDick: I can build but I don't have the required graphics card that can build such for the moment I think you need more CPU than GPU for development. To build with Unreal Engine 5, you need a CPU with around 6 to 8 cores, clocked at 3ghz or better and less than 3 years old. For GPU, any GPU that can play the game you are building should suffice. You also need a lot of RAM, 16gb minimum but 32/64 ideal. Cheap fast storage too. You can read this article as it breaks it down better. https://www.cgdirector.com/unreal-engine-system-requirements |

YoungCabal: That is why I said you are being unrealistic in the first place, you forget we are Nigerians and we don't have much privileges like the Americans and Chinese do when it comes to building, from electricity to man power, over here, you can never get it free, people have families to feed and bills to pay, they can't waste their time building free things left and right just for fun sake.
Ask yourself, why hasn't there been a Nigerian linux distro for many years now ? Not like there aren't people that can pull if off, I for one have walked that path before and use gentoo linux as my main OS till date, it's not just profitable ! How will you feel seeing people building tiny stuff and making money while you remain poor building harder stuff for people to use for free ? You want linux to be profitable? Who is this one? The fact that all of us meet on Nairaland does not imply we all come from the same street. Yes there is poor electricity but has that ever stopped anyone from doing anything? Manpower, yes. As long as we have people like you who second-guess their abilities and continually play second fiddle, manpower would be a challenge not only in Nigeria but anywhere you go. If you cannot meet your bills, sorry. Building ‘free things’ is the best way to expand but how can you know when you want to make your own linux profitable. You have been pessimistic from the start, claiming it is not possible, yet Nigerians are getting funding almost everyday for creative ideas. Nonsense and ingredients |

LittleBigDick: Not necessarily
An average team can build a AAA game and make it foss thereby allowing anyone to contribute to the game
If I were to do something like this , it'll be foolish of me to launch it as a start-up when I don't have funds, I'll launch it as a indie games dev team first or a non profit sort like Linux
I would launch it as an open source project first and build a stable version first then leave it for peeps all over the world to contribute
Many companies are looking for open source projects to fund but sadly there aren't enough
Once I get a story teller and writer, I'll definitely build this If you can build a high definition prototype with realistic scenery, (Arma standard or more), i can get you your story writer. |

Just want to ask do you develop the app UI yourself or there are pips who do that while you just import and write the codes or how does it work in both small and big firms. Hope you understand me Sir In a team, there are guys who design and send the designs for approval. Heads of units will meet on thr designs and approve. Lots of considerations are put into the designs including UX, os version target (Android 5.0 or 10.0), market demographics, feedback on previous iterations etc When final design is casted, the mobile app design team is informed and they build accordingly, interacting with the backend as they progress. Tests are conducted and codes approved bit by bit till final iteration. This is then committed for release. For small one man teams, you do everything yourself or you can outsource some parts. |

Just can't fly. Nigerian civil war is a very sensitive topic and any game built about it will face severe backlash. Why build in Nigeria? The clampdown assumption is also unfounded. There have been many films about the war. No clampdown. Clampdown is only possible if the developers are dumb enough to portray a biased mindset. Tell a story, allow combatants from either side to win or lose depending purely on their military scores. In a 50v50 game for example, when the first 50 has killed all in the second 50, they have won, irrespective of whether they are FGN or BFN. |

The most important part is are you going there to look for a job or you have your clients already and you simply need a sweet climate. If you are looking for a job, i would advise you try to get a job first before you travel. Just google ‘get jobs in xxxxx’ where xxxx is your location of choice. If you have your means of making money and just need a refreshing place, you can look into nomad visa or freelance visa offerings. You can expand your search to other countries. Pack a small bag and explore. It is fun. Dont go to Turkey with just the hope of getting a good job and with little funds to take care of yourself. |

ReactJs: So there's something i've been meaning to share with you guys pertaining to getting a raise and or promotion at work.
Most times in a workplace you see raises and promotions get handed to people that other employees might feel they're underserving of it. Sadly it almost doesn't matter how much of a hardworker you are or if you always work longer hours than everybody if you're not strategically positioning yourself.
A lot of times, it boil downs to if you have someone(mostly your manager) speaking on your behalf to the people that makes the decision concerning who gets either a raise or promotion and who doesn't. If your manager doesn't feel compelled enough to fight for you in your absence where it matters, you have a problem.
You need to focus only on impressing, in this context, your manager. Your manager HAS TO LIKE YOU. I cannot emphasize enough the advantages of this. conversely, i also cannot imagine the disadvantages that comes with your manager not liking you.
You just need to how find to become a likeable person and get the important people in your organization on your side. Become better at the job. Dont give a hoot about mid management liking you if you deliver on your KPIs. If you are really good and they try to hogwash you with this rubbish bootlicking, take your skills to another place. I have seen people who follow this your mantra and they stink professionally. |
