Detailed will not be revealed for personal reasons.

But the output was perfect.
You dont need to tell us client details or other identifying data.

Did you build a website?
What did you build what you built with?
What tools were used?
What frameworks, if any?

For example: I built a static school website with 10 pages. I used only html and some vanilla JavaScript.

I submitted after 10 days and the client was ok.

Something in that line

I'm an optimistic person. I wanted to earn through programming but I had no knowledge. I mean, I could code nothing.

I was already into research writing, graphics editing, and virtual assistance..but I wanted to be a jack of all trade and master of all.

What I did? I created a profile on freelance sites that I was a programmer. Like I basically had specialised profiles for research writing, graphic editing, and virtual assistance.

Guess what? I got a gig of $400. Agreed, I knew HTML and a bit of CSS..but that's not programming.

What I did? From the $400 paid, I paid a tutor $100 to teach me and was using the client's job to test my skills. I am a very fast learner.

This is a risky thing to do and it's not totally advisable but if you are like me who MUST earn money legally, and a fast learner, it's worth the try.

So I finished the job. But I was only 90% sure I got it right. I sent it to my tutor to help me check “what I did myself and practised “ and he made few corrections, I incorporated, and I submitted.

grin

In essence, my first programming job was my learning centre and I still gained $300.

Why don't you work smart nah? Please learn a digital skill today grin

What exactly did you build?

What tools did you use?

What was the client’s comment afterwards?
ProgrammingRe: Impact Of Online Naira Card Purchase Restrictions On Tech Space In Nigeria by truthCoder: 9:59am On Jan 09, 2023
One other solution is to get an international account and get a card on it.

For example, It is easy to open an account in an ECOWAS country and you simply fund it via p2p with a trusted agent.

I wont be sharing explicit details here so the bandwagon does not crash it, as usual. Those who can read and understand would have gotten it.

~48hrs is Weird, happens in less than 2mins each time I tried.
plus the USD card works anytime and everytime. it's even currently linked to my USA paypal account
smooth sailing.
USD card works flawlessly for older cards. I have someone who recently signed in and Google Domains bounced the card, and i have a couple of Google domains pulling payments from mine.

Naira Transfers to third parties is a hit or miss.

It would tell you the transaction is pending and would give a later date of up to 48 hours.

It is only transfers to your own bank account that happens in minutes.

Barter has stopped working. The service was cancelled indefinitely months back. If he wants to try chipper I won't advice him to load much money. Someone on Twitter was scammed of 200k on chipper and a lot of people have also complained of being scammed. Only put what you can afford to lose.
A lot of people have malicious apps running on their phones and would come online to claim they were scammed when shit hits the ceiling.

How did the scammer gain access to their accounts? Was it through Chipper Cash’s backend or from the user actually authorizing such transactions?

The only drawback i have with Chipper is that if you try to transfer Naira out of your account to another account, it might take more than 48 hours. The reason, i dont know.

Also, they laid off 12% of their staff in December and that is a bit worrying to me.

Virtual cards don't work on all services. They mostly work on the popular ones. No Nigerian virtual card works with Salesforce. Even when barter was still up It wasn't working. Thankfully you can learn with the development version but that's it.

Op find someone abroad you trust that can help you make payments.
That’s interesting to hear. I use my UAE cards for almost everything and my Chipper USD card in Nigeria works flawlessly.

He can try Chipper.

Barter seems to be buggy the last time i tried it.

I would not advise using another person’s card especially a card with an ability to overdraw.

You need a prepaid card or a card that declines when balance is 0 for such subscriptions.

It is better your service goes down than for you to incur a debt of 2,000 usd on another person’s card for a poorly configured service or an unexpected high draw rate.

The central bank of Nigeria (CBN) policies especially on the foreign exchange market is killing the tech and startup communities in the country. I would use my case as an example.

I am a certified Salesforce administrator and have done several projects as voluntary or personal to boost my profile and résumé. One of my project I designed as an app using salesforce ecosystem that enabled small/ medium size companies to take daily audits of the sold goods and expensive activities and share the reports of the weekly audits via emails (automatically) to the managerial team. Showed it to a client to get a business deal.

The business owner was impressed with the design but, he's new to Salesforce and still need to understand how it work when fully deployed. So, he wanted me to give him a trial version which Salesforce provided but I melt a stumbling block when all cards to pay for the lowest subscription fee for the Salesforce got rejected. I tried for two weeks but could not subscribed. The man got tired and said next time and he's not ready to buy black market rate on a new services he will be paying for every months.

I believe, emefiele and Buhari have caused to so much pain to the tech space and startup communities. So, what do you think guys about the impact of the naira card international transaction restrictions on tech space in Nigeria?
You are a tech guy.

You don’t let stumbling blocks limit you.

Yes, Naira cards are no longer working but tech guys like you have solutions already for this mess. There are virtual dollar cards.

And when you say your client doesn’t want to buy at black market rate, pardon me but that is superfluous.

Were you quoting at 400 NGN to USD? Everyone pays at the black market rate. If he cannot buy at 740, tell him to pay you in USD or he is not ready to buy

For my Nigerian transactions, i charge in USD and collect via my USDT wallet or you transfer to my international account.

Your costs are in USD so why charge Naira?

I took some jobs when parallel was 525. It got to 900 before falling to present 740. How do you expect me to manage the monthly payments with such fluctuations?

No matter what the CBN does locally in Nigeria, you must find a way to survive because your target should be global.

So Tech is a vast field covering not just Computing and IT but all science fields. Does innovation mean not having the barest minimum professional training. A lot of us are rushing to get into coding and dev. But are we also aware that it's actually a "factory job" and that the people that command the highest pay are those in leadership positions with degrees in Business Administration, Finance and the likes?

I'm not asking that everyone in tech must be a CS grad. Far from it. I'm saying, maybe like accounting, computing can develop a standard body of knowledge that practitioners must go through to practice the profession. Accounting is an all-comers profession. You don't even need a university degree to become accountant. But nowhere on earth can someone claim to be an account without passing their country's chartered account exam, whether that is ICAN in Nigeria, or ICAEW in England or CPA in the US. It's not gate keeping. It's having minimum standards
What you are proposing is a sort of knowledge toll-gate controlled by a few, just like the chartered bodies.

Have you seen what some CTOs in some organizations do? They were smart during their young days and junior days and developed some VB6 tools for the organization so they stayed behind while others migrated to other places.

Now its the 2020s and they are now CTO and they look at every young one with an air of suspicion. They have prevented the migration of the codebase to something more efficient and modern.

They give lists of all their own qualifications as entry level requirements for junior roles.

Now imagine an association of these old CTOs coming together to form a body. How do you think that body would be run?

Do you really think such a body would advance the tech world or restrict it?

Mention one of the real tech founders in the world who would approve of such an association because he passed through such?

Yes, every tom, dick and harry is calling himself a web programmer or a coder now and thats the beauty of it.

There are some basic requirements for any role and if you have a young person who can meet it, why gate keeping the person?

It is about learning a language and speaking in that language. With the language, you can create your your own lyrics as you see it.

I work with a team with offices in some couple GCC countries. It is a completely international team with a forward looking CTO. Only a couple of CS grads and they pull their weight in their contributions and not by their CS degrees.

While a lot of people are talking down the OP, I think he is making some salient points. The need to standardize and professionalize the field. Back in the dark ages “surgeons” were roadside apprentices to other “surgeons” who had also learnt surgery “on the streets”. After plenty failed “butchering”, surgery had to be professionalized.

Think about it, would you have a self-trained doc diagnose and treat you? Would you allow a self-trained engineer build your house?

Edit:
On the flip side though, some of the greatest frauds have been performed by the best trained professionals. Enron quickly comes to mind
Tech is about innovation.

Innovation knows no school walls or regimental schedules.

The best innovators are actually people who question the existing system and bypass all standard procedures just to get to the solutions faster and more efficiently.

Computer Science as an academic discipline is great and we would continue to need its advancements. However, there must be the space for the rustic goal getter who doesn’t have a PhD but has a unique set of skills for clobbering up the next big thing.

Fact check. Huawei has never been the top brand in the US. It was a top brand in china.

US blacklisted Huawei for security concerns.

You obviously dont know what a backdoor is or how to look for one.

TikTok investigations have revealed that the company actually spies on users. This is as new as a few weeks ago.

There are some clients that still prefer native development.

I also know a little bit of Swift UI and can find my way around the codes. However, except i am working in a big team where there are different devs for different platforms, i would prefer to logically use a cross platform for those small projects.

Get your full hang of Kotlin. Become a pro at it, then explore some Flutter.

Put resource behind a protected route.

Let each user have an account that allows log in.

Allow only one log in per account. An extra log in on another device logs out the initial one.

For the customers that have paid, issue a time based token that is valid only for the period that they paid for. For those who have not paid, issue a generic token.

All interactions must use the tokens. Expired premium tokens default automatically to generic tokens and when a client pays, he is automatically issued a new premium token.

When they log in, check their tokens. If generic or null, bounce them to general page. If premium, check for validity. If valid, allow if expired, default to generic

Buy a real phone.

If it is the cheapest iPhone, get it. Let me say this again. Buy an iPhone. If you must use an android, get a Samsung or any other major brand. Do not buy Tecno, Infinix, Itel or any other android that ships with factory spyware.

Any phone manufacturer that doesn’t take privacy seriously is just a brick manufacturer.

The volume of malware on phones in Nigeria is alarming.

The main culprits are Tecnos and Infinix. They come with malwares right out of the box and there is little you can do about it.

Dont use easybuy.

Don’t download loan apps.

Don’t use the same browser that you use for everything for porn or other illicit sites.

Dont click on funny links.

Dont use tiktok.
