3. The same God of the Old Covenant is the same God of the New Covenant. God is not a man that He should lie nor that He, God, should change His mind. That is the very reason why Jesus Christ never changed any of what God decreed as far as divorce is concerned. Instead God limited men on remarriage, instituting a standard higher than that of the Old Covenant.

He permitted certain things under the Old Testament because of the weakness of their flesh. So many things have changed and they have been altered for a better life.

The sermon of Jesus on the mount alone unveils a few things that was changed by Jesus himself outside the law of marriage. Let's look at them one by one.

1. The Law of oath

Matthew 5:33-37
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34 But I say unto you, SWEAR NOT AT ALL; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Under the law they could swear but Jesus said they should not swear at all.

The Law of retaliation

Matthew 5:38-39
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Under the law, they were permitted to retaliate. If someone blind your eyes, you have the legal right to blind his eye. But under the new, we are not permitted to render evil for evil. The letters of the Apostles says the same thing;

Romans 12:17 RECOMPENSE TO NO MAN EVIL FOR EVIL. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

1 Peter 3:9 NOT RENDERING EVIL FOR EVIL, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

The law of Love and Hate

Matthew 5:43-44
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

My friend, so many things have changed for the better with the coming in of grace.

Try and update and upgrade your knowledge by what is contained in the New Testament and we will all be on the same page.

Again, try to reason what Jesus Christ said of those who will become worthy of Him.

You are quoting Luke 14:26 out of context. You can only be willing to lose your marriage for his sake if your partner is hindering you from serving God. Both if both of you are in the faith, you are not expected to opt out of your marriage for his sake. Our Lord Jesus is an author of confusion. He can not put a rule to guide divorce in one passage and go against it in another.

You can't marry today and just wake up you don't want to marry again because of reasons that don't hold water. This was the case in the Old Testament. A man can just wake up and give a letter of divorce to his wife for personal reasons. But our Lord Jesus said no one should do that anymore except for sexual immorality. And you struggling to understand this simple instruction. Are you an anti Christ.

Jesus said don't divorce unless she is caught in immorality but you said divorce is okay for any reason. Are we supposed to follow you or Jesus? You don't have the moral or legal right to change the word of God. There is no ambiguity in the statement of our Lord Jesus. Unless you have a problem understanding simple English or you just want to defend your opinion at all cost in spite of evidences against it.

I pray you have multiple divorce so you can understand why it's sin except for the exemption clause. If you don't want to accept God's word, you will learn it the hard way.

All Jesus Christ did was explain to them to origin of divorce in marriage. He did not change the Old law but instead taught a new and higher standard where remarriage is concerned , the same pattern observed with all the other laws Jesus Christ gave to His followers.

2. Indeed Jesus Christ is God's New Covenant and Law in the Kingdom of God, and it is only by submitting and obeying that we show ourselves worthy of His Kingdom and promises.

3. Well, for sexually lusting after the more beautiful woman, you have already committed adultery against God - Matthew 5 vs 27 - 28

However, you commit no sin by simply divorcing your spouse.

4. Try to pay close attention so you stop running around in circles on this. Divorce is not a sin but in remarrying you potentially sin against God.

The teachings in the Gospels tell you you can divorce but you can only remarry if and when fornication was a reason for your divorce. If not, remarriage is adultery!

5. Open your eyes to what God in fact said to you. Sin is disobedience of God's very commandment to you and God's commandment is that if you remarry, under any condition that excludes fornication, you commit adultery.

I still maintain it's a sin because you are mistreating the other party and exposing him or her to sin. Do you know that hurting someone who has done against you is a sin? And nothing can be more hurting than breaking down the emotion of your partner.

Jesus Christ did not change the Old Covenant law on divorce. Divorce is not sin at all, and marriage is not a life sentence like many have claimed.

Instead what Jesus Christ did was add restrictions as far as remarriage is concerned, pretty much paving the way for some to live as Eunuch for the sake of the Kingdom of God - Matthew 19 vs 12

According to Jesus Christ, who is God's Law and Truth, the New Covenant in the Kingdom of God, it is sin if one remarries after a divorce under any other circumstance other than the one allowed by Him. He is God's Law!

How do you read your Bible? Upside down? Or are you writing your own Bible. Our Lord Jesus quoted the Old Testament law of divorce and said it shouldn't continue that way. He put a new order in the marriage institution and you said he didn't.

And when the owner of the church says this is the way it should be, if you act otherwise, you have sinned. And these are the words he will use to judge us on that day.

For example, you are married and you now see a more beautiful woman or a more wealthy man, you now divorce your former wife or husband, have you not sinned.

If divorce for any reason is not a sin, then one can divorce and remarry every year. Just listen to yourself. Sin is simply going against the instructions of God's word. Who are you to decide what is sin or what is not sin when the Bible is very clear on the subject?

It is God who gave the right to divorce to those of the Old Covenant, and He is the same God who gives the same right to divorce to those of His New Covenant with no exemptions necessary in case of DV.

According to Jesus Christ, it is only in remarrying, under the wrong conditions, that a person commits sin against God.

Jesus changed the Old Testament law of divorce. So, it is sin if you divorce outside the exemption Jesus and Apostle Paul gave.

Yes, he does. It still stands. This is to ensure that the marriage institution is not abused. But the case of domestic violence is an exemption. It's only an unreasonable Pastor that will insist a woman remains in an abusive marriage.

One of the revelation God showed me is this. They are planning an attack in unison at night when we are all sleeping. You will wake up and see hundreds of houses on fire all over the places. You will have no where to run to. They are recruiting more people from neighboring west Africa countries. They currently take up dirty jobs. They all have areas allocated to them. They want more people to come in from the north borders. This is the main reason for the railway construction to Niger Republic.

The only challenge they are having are the soldiers who are Christians. But they are taking them gradually. They might take the few ones remaining in battle when the time comes.

I know it's not going to be easy. At the same time, it's not impossible.

The terrorists herdsmen are already in our forest and more people are joining them daily.

This is why they are trying to stop Sunday Igboho from stopping them and Nnamdi Kanu also from raising a formidable force.

Nigerians in this part are too dull to understand what is going on. Our leaders are blind to the doom that awaits them because of the money they are enjoying.

The only way to stop this evil is prayer. Not the casual prayers we have been doing. Church Pastors and leaders need to pray every mid night for at least 2 to 3 hours daily. God will frustrate their plans. My heart just bleed for Christians in the north in some states where the attack goes on every now and then. And the government turns blind eyes to it.

I didn't say so. I was only responding to someone who didn't agree with me that the law of divorce was put in place primarily to protect women because they suffer more from the consequences of divorce.

A woman who suffers abuse is free to leave. Even Apostle Paul said so implicitly. He wrote;

1st Corinthians 7:13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and IF HE BE PLEASED TO DWELL WITH HER, let her not leave him.

I know he was addressing a situation where her husband is not a Christian and he treats her well. He recommended she should not leave. Someone who calls himself a Christian and mistreats his wife is as good as an unbeliever. She is free to leave such a relationship.

One way out is prayers. And we should monitor what is going on with the fight against terrorism. God will save us in Jesus name.

This issue of abuse in marriage will be minimized when you marry who you really know. Marry someone who shares the same interest and opinions with you on a lot of issues. Most people are easily moved with feelings rather than principles in getting hooked up.

Even during courtship, you will know who is likely to abuse you or cheat on you.

Or rather, they have few months to execute their long planned Jihad. Unfortunately, Nigerians don't believe it. And it makes it easier for them. They are doing it in stages. You are the one who should read well. The man who puts away his wife outside the cause of adultery has sinned because he did not follow the instruction of our Lord Jesus.

The woman who was put away and marries another man also commits adultery. The man who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.

Adultery is simply sleeping with a man or a woman who is married that is not your husband or wife.

Even under the law, both parties are guilty.

Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the ADULTERER and the ADULTERERS shall surely be put to death

He did. Read what he said;

Matthew 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, SAVING FOR THE CAUSE OF FORNICATION, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

What is sin? Sin is simply transgression of instructions. So, when you act contrary to the instruction of our Lord Jesus concerning divorce, you have sinned.

This is why Apostle Paul also wrote:

1st Corinthians 7:10-11
10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

Divorce is not a sin and isn't meant as protection for the woman, not according to Jesus Christ.

It is implied. Under the Law of Moses, a husband can put away his wife just by a letter of divorce. There is no provision for a wife to put away her husband. But our Lord Jesus said such law should only be applied when she is caught in the act of adultery. So, our Lord Jesus is protecting the women from being put away by the husband for any cause.

I agree with Daddy Freeze on this. There are marriages that will take you to hell trying to keep it even if you don't die untimely death. One or both parties live bitterness for the rest of their lives trying to keep a marriage.

The instruction against divorce is actually meant to protect the woman who is usually the victim. But if the woman chooses to leave for a very good reason such as abuse, she has not sinned.
