Canada Fam, Incase anyone is interested in learning french, I'm looking for people to form a study group. Hopefully by mid next year we'll be good enough to get some points from it.
If you live near/around ikoyi , enrolling in the Alliance Francaise french school will be more helpful. When you form a study group with native english speakers the tendency to communicate in English will limit your ability to grasp the French language.

very dicey situation. I can't advice she leaves her lucrative job immediately, because you don't immediately start making money massively upon arriving in Canada. Also, it's better you come alone, though the relationship may not remain the same again. But if the love is strong enough that can withstand temptations and distance barriers, come then do spousal visa for her later.
From an immigration perspective they can both become PRs while one opts to live/remain in Nigeria while the other remains in Canada. However, the challenge comes from practicability of separated couples living two different lives in two different environment.

I'm also interested in knowing. It will help me and my spouse make an informed decision. In my own case, I am just about to get married. I was applying alone and I was on 482 until my points dropped to 474 due to age. I convinced my fiancée to write IELTS and evaluate her higher degree and we now both stand on 499 with her as the PA.
However, she just picked up a very wonderful appointment here in Nigeria. Too good to consider letting go. Meanwhile, I am a mid-senior level public servant with a not-so-impressive salary and I am currently pursuing my PhD. I want to go and hustle in Canada for few years while she maintains her job in Nigeria.
It's totally alright. Principal applicant has to land with or before the dependent applicant. Other than that no law states that both applicants must live/stay together in Canada

That's not entirely true. While most times you don't get rejected because of high blood pressure, there is a chance it could be a cause of denial if there's a more serious underlying condition for which HBP is only a symptom. In cases like this, the person is often referred to a cardiologist for further checks. There are cases of people who have failed their medical tests because they recorded these kinds of HBP cases. Even particularly important is that your medical condition should not put unnecessary pressure of the country's health system. If it is determined that a person's case of HBP could put pressure on the country's medical system, then the person will ultimately fail medical.

Anyone can read more on the post I made on medical inadmissibility.
The cost threshold was tripled in 2021 thus I don't see HBP being an issue. It is a common condition globally

Something I’ll like to say is that regardless of the sum involved, you will continue to see growing numbers of people getting involved. The stratification might change but numbers will still go up.

There were many who thought they couldn’t afford it at one time but by starting, they eventually could make it. Talking about those unable to get PR after studies, I would say it is entirely their fault, it is not just to start studying, but what and where are the most cardinal questions.

I advised a 44 year old banker that wants to attain PR through study route to consider IT or health or Learn French, she said her head is full. How then do you want to make it? Also there were many people in Canada who during the pandemic when scores dropped to impossible level that still didn’t make it because they were simply not in the pool.

There are many people in Canada waiting for one route or the other that will grant them PR without writing IELTS. Just find out about many of those people, they are not doing something right.
Lol the things I’ve seen in the last one year surprised me. I visited Nigeria recently and met a man who told me his daughter studied software engineering in Canada (I studied computer science ) and she has been unable to land a job since graduating over a year ago. He was surprised that I got a software engineering job in Canada before moving to Canada . He linked me up to his daughter who I met on return to Canada. She spent 5 years schooling in Canada but no co-op, no internship , no side project , no volunteering. Just a software engineering degree. I encouraged her to start a side project which she can use to boost her profile and also try out interning before the main job lands. I have another cousin that spends all his leisure time sleeping / watching series. His mum has been on my neck to help the son find a job to reduce the burden on her. The guy is simply not interested. He doesn’t even have a SIN yet he has been studying in Canada since 2019 lol

My heart goes out to everyone currently in this journey. It’s so difficult now. During my time 3/4 yrs ago. POF was 3.5M for one person. At that time, it was difficult as well but now, the difficulty is now 100% more. I don’t even know the advice to give people now.

Please look at every option well and act accordingly. It will end well by the Grace of GOD.

Yep. There is also the emotional side to it hence I'm usually on the fence when I get approached by people. I received ITA in nov 2020 and had the equivalent of CAD18,000 to provision for fluctuation in exchange rate and cutoff was 478 as at then.
Today its a lot different (a lot more money and higher scores). One may come across as trying to discourage others when it indeed worked out for me. Hence I encourage everyone that asks me to try express entry/PNP. Before I came to Canada the impression I had was that transition from study to PR was easy and smooth. But after meeting some students here the story is different.

And the good thing is that I see these French draws lasting for a very very long time.
With IRCC nothing is guaranteed. The pattern was consistent and predictable up until March 2020. The At some point it was TR to PR; Then CEC; Then All program draws and now french. Let us endeavor to be proactive in whatever pathway we chose. As for study route it is becoming too expensive with no guarantees. Ten years ago CAD was 133/USD 157 and people were more interested in experiencing western education in a developed country. Settling abroad permanently via study route was an option some bought into and others didn't. However, the trend has changed now. When I was a student (age 20/21/22/23) I knew some other students who were older than me (in their late 20s/early 30s) and were also on study leave from their place of work. Some returned to their jobs while some got a job and resigned.

Today you see/hear of people in their 40s/late 30s selling all they have worked for to pay their fees and also fund their dependents. The cost of things not working out via this route can be difficult to recover from. I will pick a 2 million naira french training over the study route that can cost a house, car and entire savings. The pressure sometimes split families permanently

The last draw was 505. There couldn't have been more than a few Nigerians in that draw.
Yep the dynamics have changed. The process has also become very expensive. WES fee, IELTS fee, Funds in the bank, visa fee , ticket fees and cost of settling into Canada. Then for those going to study in Canada with the sole aim of transiting to permanent residency kindly make your plans before embarking on it. Agents are selling this route to people only for them to find out later that they do not have the scores needed to compete in the express entry pool. There are over 800,000 international students in canada and over a million people on one form of work permit or the other. With only about 110,000 ITAs yearly its obvious that things have changed (unlike in the past). In addition, the now unpredictable nature of the draws calls for better planning. No two people should be compared. Age, province of study, course of study, work experience field, family situation (sibling in canada), highest degree and other factors influences the ability to transition from study permit to work permit to PR

The scores are still above 481 which is out of reach of many with no connection to Canada (in- Canada studies or work or sibling in Canada or French fluency ). When the scores come down below 481 there will be more interest

Hello everyone! I'm facing a situation regarding my previous Canada application, and I could use some guidance. I was recently refused Canada work visa using a specific work history but I have discovered another pathway which requires me stating another work experience which I have but didn't disclose in my initial application. I'm now considering applying again, but I'm unsure how to navigate this situation. I would greatly appreciate any insights, suggestions, or experiences you could share to help me proceed effectively. Here are a few specific questions I have:

1. Has anyone encountered a similar situation where they had additional work experience not included in their initial Canada application?

2. What steps should I take to ensure transparency and accuracy when reapplying with this new work experience?

3. Are there any specific guidelines or protocols to follow when presenting this new work experience in my application?

4. How should I address the fact that I didn't disclose this experience in my previous application? What impact could it have on my reapplication?

5. Are there any potential risks or complications that I should be aware of when reapplying with additional work experience?

I value your insights and experiences, and any advice or suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance in navigating this situation.
You don’t have to game the system. Make your application straightforward by being truthful on all the forms you complete.

Thanks! Should he submit to Lagos VFS or Accra or Nairobi? I heard Lagos VFS takes 6-8 weeks to send back the stamped passport.
I’ll suggest you follow the instructions and submit via VFS. Planning a move to another country ( Canada inclusive ) requires preparation and before you know it the 6-8 weeks will come . During my time I sent my passport directly to accra but after receiving it 3 weeks later it still took me about 2 months to get a job after which I moved to Canada. Despite all my preparation, POF cash and bi-weekly salary that I began to receive from my day 11 things were still hard. Couldn’t find a place to rent in the Toronto area because I had no rental history in Canada with no credit history as well. Real estate coys and landlords were more comfortable with applicants who had a high credit score and a history of working and renting in Canada. Friends saw it as an opportunity to get out of the money I came with lol .
I’m not saying your experience will be same with mine but please plan the transition well enough

What do you mean you have no skills? Do you think your employer paying you 450k salary is a Father Christmas? Your job description in the company is a skill.
This is not always the case in Nigeria. In my family a larger percentage of people got employed at their current work place because an uncle used his influence to impose them there. And some who lost their job in the past have not been able to secure another one or find something else to do. Nigeria has a major skills shortage problem and a lot of jobs offer no transferable skill

Hello all,

Please i have something bothering me about my PR application

I currently have a PR application

I am looking to get married before the end of the year but then i am thinking,
1. Should get my PR, go to canada and come back to marry then wait for another 6months for my partner to get the visa to come join me in canada
Or
2. Should I inform IRCC that i want to get married
2.1 if yes, when should i inform them (Before receiving my Passport request or After ??)
2.2 if i inform them, how soon would i need to get married after informing them?
2.3 what documents would i need to submit to add my partner to the PR application
2.4 How long do you think it would take for IRCC to process our visas?

Its not as easy as picking an option for you. It depends on many more factors. I was in a similar situation as well but my fiancee & I applied separately as two single applicants. But this option is only viable if both parties have a profile that can independently qualify for express entry.
Informing IRCC about your intention to get married won't change much as I am not sure they have a law that takes care of applicants with intention to get married. You can apply together as common law partners before marriage.

Once you submit an application for permanent residence as a single applicant, you may need to consider waiting for the application to be processed before sponsoring your wife. You can add your partner along the way after you get married and get the marriage certificate but sometimes they don't respond till after your application is approved. And when that happens you'll need to wait for them to re-issue another COPR which takes time. In the case of my friend he waited 11 months but I guess covid made his own case lengthier.

Why on earth are you leaving the responsibility of something so important to ab agent when you can do it on your own?

Anyways, i hope you have all the access and credentials to your profile. If you are post ITA pls raise a web form to correct the mistake.

@gr8femfred Do it yourself limited is a valuable skill that will make adjusting to life in the western world easier. Agents are interested in making money and even IRCC emphasizes on the need to only use the services of a licensed agent if you want to use a representative. Some agents will use your profile to get PR for other people who they can package as members of your family. There are some things that we should consider doing by ourselves.

Hello house. Please I need advice on what to do. I and my wife just recently got married (March). And we plan on applying for the Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry). So my question is Can she use her current names now to apply (With my Names) despite the fact that her employment letter came in with her Names without mine before marriage... Should we apply with the different names and use our marraige certificate as evidence for we being a couple. Or we should go for a change of name before applying?

NB Her passport still needs Change of name.

Thanks
Name change is not a legal requirement. If express entry is what you both want I'll suggest you focus on the requirements of express entry and get through it. You can do the name change thing after you become a PR. In 2020 a couple declined their ITA because they were waiting for the wife's passport to be reissued following the name change. Covid came and draws were suspended. When draws resumed the canadian experience class was prioritized and their scores became uncompetitive

Anything can happen. I remember an immigration consulting telling someone I know to forget about express entry as her score was too low (she had a score of 481). Somehow there was a back-to-back-to-back draw sometime in march and she got an ITA.

Word of advice, thread carefully cause iRCC has sth called information sharing. This is a check done on an applicant by getting information about the applicant from other partners or countries. therefore, it is highly likely that they would be getting the information from USA and that is an automatic misrepresentation.

You could try stating the previous wedding was a traditional marriage and you just did the legal wedding in your LOE. That might work.

You might also want to hold on with the wedding and finish your process then invite him over. That's safer in your case and now, Canada recently made a policy aimed at speeding up the processing time for spouse. Good luck
I will also advise waiting to complete the PR process and sponsoring a spouse. However, it all depends on the parties involved. Couples don't always agree on this because of how difficult long distance relationships can be coupled with how the canadian spousal visa sponsorship rules has over time led to the separation of families and in some cases fueled the dissolution of marriages.

Good day everyone, please i need advice on the issue below:

I have received ITA, passed Medicals and also done biometrics. My fiancee and I have our court wedding scheduled for sometime in June 2023 after which, i am to update/inform IRCC of the change in my marital status and then include him as an accompanying spouse.

The issue now is he had, in 2021 and 2022, applied to US for school and was refused VISA both times. Unfortunately, he had put in the second time(in 2022) that he was married to me and provided my name (i.e First name, second name and his surname) in a bid to show home ties.

I feel this may constitute an issue as i entered the pool in NOV 2022 as a single lady (rightly so as i was and am still unmarried) and this misrepresentation may be known to them when running their background check on previously visa denials.

Can anyone who has been in this situation or has an advice for this help with how this can be handled?
May be you should contact an immigration lawyer. Always better to be truthful and consistent in applications and all we do. In addition adding a spouse post ITA may led to the recalculation of your points. I'm not entirely sure what the policy on that is

Hi guys!

A couple of days ago, I mentioned my request for reconsideration was refused because of insufficient funds after an initial refusal due to not submitting documents(which I actually did submit).

I filled a webform to explain that I have sufficient funds based on the present conversion rate.

I was going through the letters sent me again, this time more closely. Then I saw the reconsideration refusal was due to this - "Proof of settlement funds submission is in incomplete" not actually insufficient funds. I have attached a screenshot below.

Then, I went back to the letter requesting for the documents, and read it again. I have also attached a part of it below.

I interpreted it to mean bank statement for the past one month. I thought the last part that mentions 6 months is for some kind of current account or investment account. I operate and have my funds in a regular savings account. So, I submitted bank statement for just a month.

And it seems that's where the "incomplete" stems from.

It should have been 6 months bank statement right?

If anyone has any advice as to what step I may take beyond this point, please I'd really appreciate.

Thank you.
I'm guessing you received an ADR requesting for a six month bank statement/ bank letter that was issued by the bank in the past month ?

What do you know about Rivers State?

I keep saying that any Industrialist can locate his industry in anywhere he feels he can make profit with ease. However our government is not being sincere to the peculiar problems of the Niger Delta.

Have you ever pondered what the North or even the South West would say if a Gold Refinery or base metal refinery is sited in Port Harcourt, Yenegoa, Warri or Benin instead of the North West where these metals are mined.

I am from rivers state and that state along with its people are too hostile. They discriminate a lot even among themselves (ikewerre against kalabari , Ogoni against okrika, etche against opobo & all). Even among the kalabaris there is a Cold War between those from Buguma and those from abonemma.
Non-indigenes of the state are not made comfortable. You’ll be constantly told to go back to your state. I lived in Lagos where I was able to secure a number of jobs offers & live freely before moving out of Nigeria. Competition for investments and opportunities is the way of life in Lagos as opposed to protectionism and hostility

Hello, guys
I don't want to bore you guys with long epistle. Yes, as the title suggests.

I travelled to Canada through the study route this January but I can tell you for a fact that I'm already bored with this place.

I'm redoing a 2 year program that I have already concluded in Naija but just because I want japa, I redid it. But that's not the issue.

The issue is that I'm working in a company but the department I was posted to was a physical demanding one..

To the extent that if I work for a day, I feel pain all over my body for a week. And this is seriously affecting my education because anytime i go to work, i wouldn't have the energy to do anything again as i would be so weak. but i have to work because i have bills to pay.

Nobody send you for here except you want sleep for cold outside.

Even half of my salary goes in the form of settling bills.

The work makes me depressed. This is not what I bargained for. .

For me to raise money for my tuition fees and travel expenses, at least I wasn't doing bad in Nigeria before i left. In addition, I hardly have time for myself.

My situation is even better, most of people who we came same time haven't found jobs yet.

My thinking is if I should ask for refund of my remaining tuition fee and relocate back Naija, or go back Naija and take some courses online, as there seems to be an option for that.
I believe you raised enough money for your studies and got a study visa based on that merit. Why the need to work in the cold ? Regarding money I believe you can make money anywhere (Canada, Nigeria , Sudan, Thailand, India….)thus I don’t get why people spend so much to move to Canada hoping to make it big here

Nigerians can be predatory and greedy thus I do not blame people who leave Nigeria to pursue a careers elsewhere. Banks in Nigeria also lost a good number of tech workers.

Please can you throw more light on the above message...I would love to know more .Tx
Canada's population is growing mostly due to immigration but the infrastructure (housing, schools, hospitals, doctors, cars ....) are not catching up with the pace of population growth. The housing market is the most obvious issue most Canadian citizens and residents face shortly after they land. Inability to find affordable housing to rent. For recent immigrants trying to buy a house, the prices are out of the roof due to high demand.

I'll like to reflect on my personal experience as regards housing in Toronto area. I got two job offers in my field before landing in Canada. I opted to travel to USA for some weeks before going to Canada to resume at the workplace. While in USA I reached out to a long friend of mine who had been in Canada for over ten years to tell him I'll be coming to start a job and will like to stay at his place while house hunting (he normally stays at my place when he visits Nigeria). The response I got was a bit far from what I expected. It was not a "yes" or "no" rather he asked that we talk about it later as he was feeling sleepy. He called me later to tell me his house was full and suggested that I stay at an Air BnB. I had no problem with that but I told him I don't want to be under pressure to rent a house I ordinarily won't want to rent and that is why I want a place to keep my two suitcases while house hunting. He opted to recommend that I ask someone else who I wasn't too close to. Out of need I reached out to that person who use to be my neighbor back in the days. Surprisingly the guy came through for me and even picked me up at the airport. I assured him that I'd spend only two weeks in his house before getting my place. After two weeks I moved to an Air BnB.

Within those two weeks I was told by all the agents I met that I'll need a credit report, a reference letter from a previous landlord, three months paystub from my job and an ID to rent a house. They were not willing to find me houses till I met this requirement thus the Air BnB was a surer option for me. My friend who had earlier claimed his house was full offered to now take me in if I could pay him $1,200 monthly but I declined the offer because I wanted to settle in as quickly as possible and I felt staying with him for long will equate to going against my early request.

I moved to an air bnb and got my first credit report after 6 weeks. However, the score was low and I was told I needed a score of at least 700. I was viewing apartments every couple of days. For each apartment I viewed, I met up to 5 and in some case 12 other prospective renters viewing the place. If the rental price is $2,300 per month the agent will advice me to offer $2550 to get ahead of competition. I got turned down for almost 4 months and hence remained at an air bnb while searching. Buyers also face a similar fate as they outbid one another to buy a house. Frustrated renters and buyers in the market tend to become anti-immigration after encountering things like. Two Nigerians I know who moved to Canada via express entry (one in 2016 and another in 2018) told me they will vote the conservative party in the next elections as they want Canada to close its borders and get its act rights lol.

Second issue people face is ability to find a family doctor and wait times at the hospitals. There are not enough doctors in the country. I have not used the public hospital yet but rather used a private clinic twice. My employer offers a health insurance package where the employer covers 80% and the employee covers 20%. This is what I've used and even that 20% was a lot as my tooth extraction cost about $2,400 in a private clinic and I had to pay 20% of the amount.

Some others have had not so good encounters with immigrants from Somalia and the Caribbean which also makes them criticize the whole immigration thing. At the end of it all nothing beats have your own country give you all that you desire

Why is no one responding the waiting is really getting to me, I would expect my medical result will have change nw
Nothing unusual. All you need to do is ensure the panel physician has uploaded your result and wait. Canadian immigration process via express entry takes about 6-8 months. 2 weeks wait for medical to be passed doesn't mean there is an issue.
