Profgordons:Lol the things I’ve seen in the last one year surprised me. I visited Nigeria recently and met a man who told me his daughter studied software engineering in Canada (I studied computer science ) and she has been unable to land a job since graduating over a year ago. He was surprised that I got a software engineering job in Canada before moving to Canada . He linked me up to his daughter who I met on return to Canada. She spent 5 years schooling in Canada but no co-op, no internship , no side project , no volunteering. Just a software engineering degree. I encouraged her to start a side project which she can use to boost her profile and also try out interning before the main job lands. I have another cousin that spends all his leisure time sleeping / watching series. His mum has been on my neck to help the son find a job to reduce the burden on her. The guy is simply not interested. He doesn’t even have a SIN yet he has been studying in Canada since 2019 lol 3 Likes 1 Share |

bekayy:Yep. There is also the emotional side to it hence I'm usually on the fence when I get approached by people. I received ITA in nov 2020 and had the equivalent of CAD18,000 to provision for fluctuation in exchange rate and cutoff was 478 as at then. Today its a lot different (a lot more money and higher scores). One may come across as trying to discourage others when it indeed worked out for me. Hence I encourage everyone that asks me to try express entry/PNP. Before I came to Canada the impression I had was that transition from study to PR was easy and smooth. But after meeting some students here the story is different. 2 Likes |

littyprincess:With IRCC nothing is guaranteed. The pattern was consistent and predictable up until March 2020. The At some point it was TR to PR; Then CEC; Then All program draws and now french. Let us endeavor to be proactive in whatever pathway we chose. As for study route it is becoming too expensive with no guarantees. Ten years ago CAD was 133/USD 157 and people were more interested in experiencing western education in a developed country. Settling abroad permanently via study route was an option some bought into and others didn't. However, the trend has changed now. When I was a student (age 20/21/22/23) I knew some other students who were older than me (in their late 20s/early 30s) and were also on study leave from their place of work. Some returned to their jobs while some got a job and resigned. Today you see/hear of people in their 40s/late 30s selling all they have worked for to pay their fees and also fund their dependents. The cost of things not working out via this route can be difficult to recover from. I will pick a 2 million naira french training over the study route that can cost a house, car and entire savings. The pressure sometimes split families permanently 15 Likes 1 Share |

NuCypher:Yep the dynamics have changed. The process has also become very expensive. WES fee, IELTS fee, Funds in the bank, visa fee , ticket fees and cost of settling into Canada. Then for those going to study in Canada with the sole aim of transiting to permanent residency kindly make your plans before embarking on it. Agents are selling this route to people only for them to find out later that they do not have the scores needed to compete in the express entry pool. There are over 800,000 international students in canada and over a million people on one form of work permit or the other. With only about 110,000 ITAs yearly its obvious that things have changed (unlike in the past). In addition, the now unpredictable nature of the draws calls for better planning. No two people should be compared. Age, province of study, course of study, work experience field, family situation (sibling in canada), highest degree and other factors influences the ability to transition from study permit to work permit to PR 6 Likes |

Dolzz:I’ll suggest you follow the instructions and submit via VFS. Planning a move to another country ( Canada inclusive ) requires preparation and before you know it the 6-8 weeks will come . During my time I sent my passport directly to accra but after receiving it 3 weeks later it still took me about 2 months to get a job after which I moved to Canada. Despite all my preparation, POF cash and bi-weekly salary that I began to receive from my day 11 things were still hard. Couldn’t find a place to rent in the Toronto area because I had no rental history in Canada with no credit history as well. Real estate coys and landlords were more comfortable with applicants who had a high credit score and a history of working and renting in Canada. Friends saw it as an opportunity to get out of the money I came with lol . I’m not saying your experience will be same with mine but please plan the transition well enough 4 Likes 2 Shares |

D9065ele: Its not as easy as picking an option for you. It depends on many more factors. I was in a similar situation as well but my fiancee & I applied separately as two single applicants. But this option is only viable if both parties have a profile that can independently qualify for express entry. Informing IRCC about your intention to get married won't change much as I am not sure they have a law that takes care of applicants with intention to get married. You can apply together as common law partners before marriage. Once you submit an application for permanent residence as a single applicant, you may need to consider waiting for the application to be processed before sponsoring your wife. You can add your partner along the way after you get married and get the marriage certificate but sometimes they don't respond till after your application is approved. And when that happens you'll need to wait for them to re-issue another COPR which takes time. In the case of my friend he waited 11 months but I guess covid made his own case lengthier. |

[quote author=tannystacey post=124273445] Why on earth are you leaving the responsibility of something so important to ab agent when you can do it on your own? Anyways, i hope you have all the access and credentials to your profile. If you are post ITA pls raise a web form to correct the mistake. @gr8femfred Do it yourself limited is a valuable skill that will make adjusting to life in the western world easier. Agents are interested in making money and even IRCC emphasizes on the need to only use the services of a licensed agent if you want to use a representative. Some agents will use your profile to get PR for other people who they can package as members of your family. There are some things that we should consider doing by ourselves. |

Realpaulpat:Name change is not a legal requirement. If express entry is what you both want I'll suggest you focus on the requirements of express entry and get through it. You can do the name change thing after you become a PR. In 2020 a couple declined their ITA because they were waiting for the wife's passport to be reissued following the name change. Covid came and draws were suspended. When draws resumed the canadian experience class was prioritized and their scores became uncompetitive 1 Like |

shaynehuey:I will also advise waiting to complete the PR process and sponsoring a spouse. However, it all depends on the parties involved. Couples don't always agree on this because of how difficult long distance relationships can be coupled with how the canadian spousal visa sponsorship rules has over time led to the separation of families and in some cases fueled the dissolution of marriages. |

You think Herbert wiggwe, Atedo Peterside, Tony Elumelu, Austin avuru, Mitchell & many others will make the kind of money they are making in Lagos in portharcourt without constant harassment + intimidation by the govt , the people and all ? Nwaetche:I am from rivers state and that state along with its people are too hostile. They discriminate a lot even among themselves (ikewerre against kalabari , Ogoni against okrika, etche against opobo & all). Even among the kalabaris there is a Cold War between those from Buguma and those from abonemma. Non-indigenes of the state are not made comfortable. You’ll be constantly told to go back to your state. I lived in Lagos where I was able to secure a number of jobs offers & live freely before moving out of Nigeria. I know two women who had a househelp in Nigeria and moved to USA with their househelp after packaging the househelp as a dependent. In both cases the househelp left them within 3 months of arriving in washington and houston. All this stress she's complaining about may be a case of poor planning like have two kids within two years |

It was still rife with unprofessionalism, eye service, nepotism and injustice. 90% of software engineers who joined the organization between 2017 and 2021 moved to tech jobs in europe, usa, canada and east africa. Nigerians can be predatory and greedy thus I do not blame people who leave Nigeria to pursue a careers elsewhere. Banks in Nigeria also lost a good number of tech workers. 3 Likes |

Zeewirld:Canada's population is growing mostly due to immigration but the infrastructure (housing, schools, hospitals, doctors, cars ....) are not catching up with the pace of population growth. The housing market is the most obvious issue most Canadian citizens and residents face shortly after they land. Inability to find affordable housing to rent. For recent immigrants trying to buy a house, the prices are out of the roof due to high demand. I'll like to reflect on my personal experience as regards housing in Toronto area. I got two job offers in my field before landing in Canada. I opted to travel to USA for some weeks before going to Canada to resume at the workplace. While in USA I reached out to a long friend of mine who had been in Canada for over ten years to tell him I'll be coming to start a job and will like to stay at his place while house hunting (he normally stays at my place when he visits Nigeria). The response I got was a bit far from what I expected. It was not a "yes" or "no" rather he asked that we talk about it later as he was feeling sleepy. He called me later to tell me his house was full and suggested that I stay at an Air BnB. I had no problem with that but I told him I don't want to be under pressure to rent a house I ordinarily won't want to rent and that is why I want a place to keep my two suitcases while house hunting. He opted to recommend that I ask someone else who I wasn't too close to. Out of need I reached out to that person who use to be my neighbor back in the days. Surprisingly the guy came through for me and even picked me up at the airport. I assured him that I'd spend only two weeks in his house before getting my place. After two weeks I moved to an Air BnB. Within those two weeks I was told by all the agents I met that I'll need a credit report, a reference letter from a previous landlord, three months paystub from my job and an ID to rent a house. They were not willing to find me houses till I met this requirement thus the Air BnB was a surer option for me. My friend who had earlier claimed his house was full offered to now take me in if I could pay him $1,200 monthly but I declined the offer because I wanted to settle in as quickly as possible and I felt staying with him for long will equate to going against my early request. I moved to an air bnb and got my first credit report after 6 weeks. However, the score was low and I was told I needed a score of at least 700. I was viewing apartments every couple of days. For each apartment I viewed, I met up to 5 and in some case 12 other prospective renters viewing the place. If the rental price is $2,300 per month the agent will advice me to offer $2550 to get ahead of competition. I got turned down for almost 4 months and hence remained at an air bnb while searching. Buyers also face a similar fate as they outbid one another to buy a house. Frustrated renters and buyers in the market tend to become anti-immigration after encountering things like. Two Nigerians I know who moved to Canada via express entry (one in 2016 and another in 2018) told me they will vote the conservative party in the next elections as they want Canada to close its borders and get its act rights lol. Second issue people face is ability to find a family doctor and wait times at the hospitals. There are not enough doctors in the country. I have not used the public hospital yet but rather used a private clinic twice. My employer offers a health insurance package where the employer covers 80% and the employee covers 20%. This is what I've used and even that 20% was a lot as my tooth extraction cost about $2,400 in a private clinic and I had to pay 20% of the amount. Some others have had not so good encounters with immigrants from Somalia and the Caribbean which also makes them criticize the whole immigration thing. At the end of it all nothing beats have your own country give you all that you desire 7 Likes 1 Share |

dipset01:Nothing unusual. All you need to do is ensure the panel physician has uploaded your result and wait. Canadian immigration process via express entry takes about 6-8 months. 2 weeks wait for medical to be passed doesn't mean there is an issue. |
