iskidet:I have used broiler starter in the past together with other ingredients and it gives good result. Infact i learnt it from our guru Ab1x. Broiler starter is used as finisher in fish feed and it is majorly made up of FM, SBM, CFM and premix. It is the lazy man's formula because you can actually get those ingredient at your feedmeal at a cheaper price |
raff007:Your fish could have been attached by columnaris bacteria or saprogenia mold. There are lots of confusion because of the similarities that exit between the two. However, columnaris is been agitated by stressor such as lack of particular ion in your water, temperature hike, wound, inbreeding, weak genetic. Because it is an aerobic organism, it thrives in well oxygenated pond and clean water. First remove the stressor that could trigger the outbreak then treat with pottasium permagenate, or with salt. If it is saprogenia that occur as a result of decomposed feed particles , improve your water management before commencing treatment. You can goggle article on columnaries vs saprogenia for comprehensive details |
ijababa:It depend on the age of the fish you want to produce feed for and protein percentage in feed. Ideally, 25% to 35% can be used. You can as well convert your carbohydrates to function as part of the binding. For example, combination of Cassava Flour Meal and Corn Flour can be used in ratio 15% and 20% |
anyiway:Wonderful work out there. What is the depth of your well/borehole |
excelsiorfarm:Yeah bro, actually wanted to quote him and not you sir |
omisakint:Congrat on your success. The journey has just started. Bro, there is nothing spectacular about foreign feed that local floating can not give you. The likes of vital, aqua max can still give you wonderful performance from 2mm most especially when you stock high quantity. Another thing most people ignore is temperature, the period you stock your pond determine to a large extent the growth rate of your fish. Fish stock in July will not have the same growth rate as fish stock in February but most people blame the breeder when the growth rate is not as fast as their previous stock which incidentally falls in warm season when temperature was high |
excelsiorfarm:Edited |
wilbro:In feed production good binding is as important as quality of the ingredients. A good sinking feed must be stable in water for at least 2hours 3 factors determine the stability of feed 1. Type of binding stuff used 2. Quantity and preparation method 3. Type of pelletising machine used Sadly pelletiser hardly have the time to observe this 3 factors. When u change water and you see so many residue know that you feed leech easily in water. This could be very dangerous for your fish most especially concrete pond. The quantity of binding stuff is detemine by type of binding agent used and age of your fish. I use minimum of 15% in the first 2month. I increase it to over 25% during the last 2month when i introduce corn flour. The real thing is how you prepare your cabonhydrate stuff |
denziz:Bro, i have to exercise caution most especially when it come to fries management. On this forum people who tried to bring innovation to feed production was roundly castigated, while the negligence of farmers were put on breeder. In feeding fries 3 things must be taken into consderatio: 1. Floaterbility 2. Gelatinisation 3. Balance amino acid If you get this 3 right you can formulate 1.5mm for juvenile. Also ensure ur fishmeal is 72% |
jeckin205:It depend on what u mean by small. It could range between 50k to above 500k. State clearly what you have in mind |
wilbro:You can use so many binding agents such as aqua ll, tapiocca, cassava starch/flour, corn flour molasis and other starchy stuff but gelatinity depends on preparation. Baker's yeast can be use as floating agent. The problem is in cost/quantity implication. Contact goldgate2003@yahoo.com for advice on floating feed |
After secret talks: Buhari takes steps to end feud with Tinubu The prolonged cold war between President Muhammadu Buhari and his erstwhile close political associate and South-West political strongman, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, may soon come to an end. Reliable sources within the party told SUNDAY PUNCH during the week that the two sides began planning to bury the hatchet during a recent meeting that President Buhari held with some of Tinubu’s loyalists in Aso Rock. The President had met with the trio of Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor, Chief Bisi Akande, and Senator Olusola Adeyeye last week Sunday. The sources also said both parties agreed that the President needed to take some confidence-boosting measures to restore Tinubu’s faith in him. The two men reportedly fell out following what Tinubu and his loyalists saw as attempts to diminish his contributions to President Buhari’s victory at the 2015 poll and erode his political capital in his South-West base. Some supporters of the former governor had also complained that the President rejected Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, and worked against the ex-Lagos governor’s candidates in the Kogi elections and Ondo governorship primary, among other ills. A reliable source who was privy to the events that culminated in the meeting said its seeds were planted during President Buhari’s three-day state visit to Germany. Prior to that time, Buhari and Tinubu had not had any private communication in a while. But the source said the President contacted Akande, who is one of Tinubu’s closest associates and a former Interim Chairman of the APC, asking him to see him in Aso Rock. The President’s call reportedly came barely 48 hours after the controversial interview the President’s wife, Aisha, granted the British Broadcasting Corporation. In the interview which went viral, the president’s wife accused her husband of neglecting those who helped him to power in 2015. Mrs. Buhari also threatened not to support her husband in 2019 if the President did not change tack. Sources said although both men’s relationship began to sour almost as soon as Buhari won the election, it deteriorated when Professor John Paden, in his book titled ‘Muhammadu Buhari: Challenges of Leadership,’ claimed that Tinubu was against the emergence of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as Vice President. Both Buhari and Tinubu were present at the book launch. Insiders say this did not go down well with Tinubu and his men, as the All Progressives Congress national leader’s camp saw it as yet another attempt by the President and his men to reduce his contributions to the emergence of the APC government and also rewrite history. Shortly after, Tinubu in a scathing open letter asked the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to step down, after alleging that the chairman doctored results of the Ondo State APC governorship primary. Odigie-Oyegun, a former Edo State governor, who had been cautious in his initial response to Tinubu’s letter, paid a visit to Buhari in Aso Rock and thereafter launched an attack on Tinubu, describing his letter as ‘reckless.’ Seeing that he was fast losing at the centre, the APC chieftain, popularly known as the Jagaban (of Borgu), started reaching out to his political foes in the South-West in order to consolidate his influence in the region. With several meetings held, Tinubu’s most vocal critics such as Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Sir Olanihun Ajayi, among others, began to drum up support for him publicly. A source in the presidency told our correspondent that Akande, who cut short his trip abroad to see the President, did not mince words during the meeting. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Akande told Buhari that despite the roles Tinubu and the South-West played in making him President, he had relegated the APC national leader and the region. The source said, “Baba Akande told the President that they were not happy with him. He told Buhari that apart from not giving Tinubu sufficient consideration during the ministerial appointments, everything that played out in the Kogi and Ondo elections showed that the President was supporting Asiwaju’s enemies. “Baba also said Paden’s book was a major slight and that they believed the President was aware of the content of the book before it went public. He further said some of the people around Buhari were hell-bent on ensuring that the President and Tinubu became enemies because of what they would gain from the crisis.” The source stated that Buhari countered that he was unhappy with the acrimony in the ruling party and that he had tried to be fair to all parties. But Akande was said to have disagreed with the President in his response, and cited further examples. SUNDAY PUNCH further gathered that Akande told the President to take practical steps to show that he was not fighting Tinubu and the South-West. While listing their demands, Akande and others told him that they needed to see more representation of those that helped him to power during the next cabinet reshuffle. There have been reports that a cabinet change is imminent. Akande, who travelled abroad after the meeting with Buhari, could not be reached for comments, but a top APC member close to him confirmed details of the meeting, saying, “They want Buhari to accept Tinubu’s list when he makes changes in his cabinet. They specifically told him that they are only in support of one of the South-West ministers in his cabinet. They also asked him to get the party leadership to hold the National Executive Council meetings regularly while also facilitating the constitution of the party’s board of trustees.” A source close to the South-West leadership of the party disclosed to one of our correspondents that Akande and Aregbesola had met at the former’s residence in Ila-Orangun two Wednesdays ago before meeting the President. Akande had been honoured by the Catholic Diocese in Otan-Ayegbaju, Osun State, where a school was inaugurated in his name. The late mother of a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who hailed from Otan-Ayegbaju, was also honoured by the church, which inaugurated a multipurpose hall in her honour. APC leaders, members and supporters, including Aregbesola, who thronged the venue of the ceremony, accompanied Akande to Ila-Orangun as a mark of respect. It was gathered that Aregbesola and Akande held a meeting at Akande’s residence, where they discussed the face-off between Buhari and Tinubu. The source said, “We were at Otan-Ayegbaji together. We later accompanied Baba Akande to Ila-Orangun after the Otan-Ayegbaju ceremony. When we got to Ila-Orangun, both the governor and Baba Akande went inside for a very long time. I’m sure that was where the decision to intervene in the matter was taken. “When they met Buhari, they complained about the marginalisation of Tinubu’s men. At the meeting, Aregbesola said they (Tinubu loyalists) were not out to fight Buhari, but that the President should consider the Tinubu group in terms of appointments. “Buhari told them that he was not out to undermine Tinubu’s group and that things would change in the coming days.” The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in an interview with one of our correspondents, said he was not aware of what transpired during the meeting between the President and the APC chieftains. He said, “I am not aware of what was discussed with the President in the said meeting. As a matter of fact, it is not the nature of the President to disclose what people discuss with him in confidence during meetings.” http://www.yohaig.ng/nigerian-newspapers/punch-newspaper/after-secret-talks-buhari-takes-steps-to-end-feud-with-tinubu/ |

I was at Kaykaymill farm in Abuja on Sunday and i instantly fell in love with earthen pond. His approach to his farm has been amazing and after listening to him for sometime i fond in him someone who knows his onions. He planned his business, from location of farm to construction to stocking and to choosing staff. The fish are very strong and healthy with equal growth. They are already at melange in less than 2months and it is certain they will attain very reasonable weight in 4 to 5 months. Congrats for your courage and zeal and thanks for the entertainment. |
Guys, at this point I have no idea of how to farm catfish but I was determined. In my dad's house, we have a big space at the back garden and my first thought was to make a concrete pond but a chance meeting with an uncle changed all that. This my uncle has been in catfish farming for 11years and he has been able to use the farm proceed to build house and send his children to University. He advised me against going for concrete pond for so many reasons: 1. The cost of making a concrete pond. 2. The cost of pumping water. 3. Pond is not a natural habitat for catfish. 4. Cost of electricity 5. I need to change the water 6. Pond construction is not simple and you need an expert to prevent wear and tear. The next day, he took me to see his earthen pond and I was really impressed. Stay with me...I will be back. I think you should be open to information and not limit yourself because Mr A believe earthen pond is better. I will tell you that the biggest and largest catfish farm in Nigeria are majorly concrete and cage pond. If you doubt me ask, Durantee in Abuja and i think they operate in Ibadan or so and come back to tell me what you see. While you think there are disadvantages of concrete pond, others also nurse the fear of earthen pond such as a. Difficult to manage b. Difficulty in fish sorting c. Inability to detect problems on time d. Cannibalism e. Prone to theft f. Prone to flood etc. This is not to say earthen pond is not good. It depends on your knowledge of the system you are operating. I operate concrete pond and i will tell you that it has been rewarding. People say fish in earthen pond grow bigger than concrete and i laugh. I have seen hetero in concrete that weigh above 40kg. I have fish of 7month that weigh 2.3kg. When you know what you are doing and with technology inputs that enhances the performance of fish, i tell you, cage farming is now and the future |

bily:The load under which the fuel estimates is based is when it is used purposely for pelletising. Because it is an estimates, there is bound to be fluctuation in fuel consumption depending on what you are pelletising i.e. smaller sizes such as 2mm/3mm consumes more diesel compare to bigger sizes. Other factor that affect the consumption rate is determine by HOW and WHAT is used to mix your ingredients before pelleting. Wet system mixing for example does not consume the same diesel as when you use dry system I use the small 3 in 1 model and it powers 2 One horse power, tv set, energy light, and my hatchery bulb [3 sixty watts and 4 100watts] all for 3hours using 2litres of diesel |
MAAF:Bewery Waste Meal |
Kaykaymil:This is a very laudable project, i pray God will crown you effort with bountiful harvest. Meanwhile for you to maximise your profit and reduce cost you need our super giant 3 in 1 for your feed pelleting and power supply Please, kindly send the video and manual to goldgate2003@yahoo.com

Beltway8:Catfish FCR is complex to determine because it is a function of so many factors and not only limited to feed. With good feed and other input at optimum, it is possible to achieve FCR of 0.5 from fingerling up to when they attain 100gram. FCR of 0.6 from 100gram to 300grams while FCR of between 0.8 to 1.2 is consider ideal for 300grams and above. In practise it is ideal to limit the use of foreign feed from stocking to when the fish attain 100grams while you switch to local floating feed until they attain 300grams. However, the practise of using local floating to attain 300grams is no longer profitable because of the high cost of feed, therefore changing to local feed of 2mm/3mm to attain 300grams reduces cost of feed while pelleting feed for growout will considerably reduce cost and increase profit without affecting the FCR. In my opinion, using imported feed and feed above 5000naira for growout will lead to a loss unless you export your fish and earn dollar. From 300grams, the cost of feed per kg that would guarantee FCR of 1:1 should not be more than 250naira. I presently use 215naira/kg for my growout despite the high cost of fishmeal, when you add that to initial cost of about 650naira per kg for raising the fingerling to 100grams, the total cost of feed for a fish of 1kg would be around 240naira |
