Businesstools: Catfish farmers in the house pls I need your inputs. The person supplying me juveniles told me I won't need to sort, cos from that size the difference in their sizes will not be so much to the extent that they'll eat one another. How true is that? You do not sort only because of cannibalism you sort because fish dont grow at the same pace in fact sorting is as important as feeding, seed and water management which will enhance your profit at the end of the day. 1. Sorting brings about balance competition among sorted fish thereby ensuring even growth 2. It will make you feed your fish according to the sizes of fishes while big fish eat big feed and small eat small feed 3. It will make you manage your feed by feeding protein rich feed to boost the growth of the smaller fish 4. Sorting will enable you to apply feed supplements/multivitamins to the smaller fish to enhance their feeding habit 5. Sorting will make it easier to calculate your FCR, and know the overall wellness of your fish |

obstead200: thanks for ur advice. However, I don't wanna waste more money on something that may not work. This ur suggestion seems so logical and correct. But Are u 100% sure that this solution will work? Cos The way I see the persistent cracks, it seems to me to be a foundation issue. screeding and all is not cheap. Pls are u really sure it is the best way to go? By the way, I am in owerri. Will post a pic the next time I visit the farm. Probably this week. Bro, i understand how you feel and i want to tell you that unless you employ expert to construct pond for you there will always be cracks and even experts still experience one form of cracks and the other and the best way to go about it is not by sewing tarpaulin inside pond rather it is through screeding using cement, waterproof cement and screeding chemical which worth its cost at the long run. Most of these mistakes could have been avoided if you had supervised your pond construction yourself from foundation up to the final stage. For better understanding, visit farm with concrete ponds around your area, goggle pond construction from youtube and read how to construct pond and you will have enough knowledge to supervise and be able to make minor repairs on your ponds |

obstead200: Gud day sir. I am an ardent follower of this catfish thread on nairaland. I have a challenge which I need ur input. I have completed arrangement to start my fish farm in concrete ponds. A mason, who came highly recommended by a reputable fish farmer in my area, constructed the ponds for me. However, after construction (together with plastering and all) I noticed cracks forming on the walls of the ponds. I sought advise and I was told to reinforce the pond by cracking them open in strategic places and casting concrete pillars with iron rods into them. I have completed this reinforcement too at a great cost. However, I noted that the cracks appeared again soon after I finished the reinforcement. I tried filling the ponds with water but they dried out by the next day. Obviously I can't use the ponds like that. I am so discouraged.
I spoke to u sometime ago about buying ur fingerlings as soon as my pond is ready. Now I can't do that.
I am considering the option of fabricating tarpaulin ponds and placing them inside the concrete ponds. How feasible do u think this option will be? Will it have any side effects? What other (cheaper) option is open to me?
We are talking of 6 ponds of 7ft by 14ft each. Pls reply. It will be appreciated. Sorry about your experience but is one of those things we face in this business, but note that winners dont quit, as you are almost there. If the cracks are on the wall, all you need to do now is to engage someone who can screed the wall with raw cement and screeding gum/paint, leave for sometime and ensure that the angles are double coated to form a thick layer and you are good to go. Where is your location, can you post the pics for us to see |

Tzen: There are variations on how much you could spend on fishes. It's dependent on the kind of feed u wanna use(local feed or imported). I advice u start with imported, u can reverse to local after at 2months. For 3000fishes, budget abt #400000 at d least in feeding them. There is no how you would use 133 to raise a catfish to attain 1kg, even if you are using earthen pond. The best way to go is feed your fish quality feeds and you would get quality result without stressing yourself |

Thank you Budget average of N250 per fish if you are using local feed of 40% crude protein from 3month |

lookandlaff: months of perfecting it you say? and who were the people he was perfecting it with all those months, no be civil servants? Was it not this same civil servants he was dealing with when he told us ministers are noise makers? He trusted the civil servants and they embarassed him. On your valid point about senate, well I can't answer that because this is not the 1st time dubious budgets have been presented to them and sailed through...maybe the senate this time finally decided to do it's job, dont forget this is a new senate.
On your final point I actually do think people are pathetic because if you cannot see that the civil servants are at fault here then it means your biases, either ibo v hausa or Pdp v apc is clouding your judgement. it's an embarrassment to the government no doubt but the incompetence/fraud cannot be put at the doorsteps of the ministers or Buhari. Like I said Buhari is going to screw up many things before his term is up and we will have the opportunity to objectively lambast him but this is not one of them, this is solely the result of a institutionalized corruption in the civil service. While i agree with you that the civil servants are culpable, you cant completely exonerate the president for his sluggishness in sacking the perceived heads of agencies/departments Nigerians know are corrupt. Budget padding does not start today because it has always been the usual way of most civil and public servant. The last four years has witness unprecedented increment in government budget from subsidy to overheads while capital expenditure continue to shrink. Buhari shouldnt have wait for this embarrassment before sacking these corrupt people hence his inaction has dented the image of his party, APC, and his own stand as upright person |

I think the SW Christians are selling themselves so each cheap to Islam Fr. Mbaka tried it and the SEasteners tongue-lashed him. 4 out of 6 states in the SW have muslim governors and U people say U are running the biggest churches in Nigeria. I pity people who troop to your churches. I pray in my house and God answers me. I am not trying to mix tribalism with Christianity but I have seen that the Sw Christians do not allow their Adamic nature to die, rather they boast in hypocrisy. Ondo, Lagos, and Ekiti have Christian as governor, what has religion got to do with good governance, stop this your myopic display and be reasonable for once |

Politics › Re: Accept Electricity Tariff Hike As Painful Pill – Fashola by Ttalk: 11:38am On Feb 09, 2016 |
emiye: Prepaid meter for EVERYONE is the number 1 issue in my opinion. The Discos are making so much money courtesy of the inefficiency of estimated billing, that improvement in service/ power supply is not big concern to them, i have a strong belief that with prepaid meters for every subscribers and at the rate of the new tarriff, they will rake in lesser revenue, and it is no brainer they will have no choice to improve service. Also, with prepaid meters, wasteful Nigerians will conserve power supply in their homes, meaning conserved supply can be distributed to other homes.
We should not crucify Fashola, the MYTO(multi year tarriff order) was not his doing, it was an agreement of the previous regime, and this is not the first time tarriff will be increased over the last 5 years. he has also promised that tarriff will start reducing again in the next 2 years. Why i dont like speculating on conspiracy theory, i think from what i have observed over the year is that government tend to take more from the masses and give to the elite. A situation where prepaid meter is made available to the few elite while the masses could not get meter months after payment is not acceptable. Fashola should go and conduct his investigation in Abuja where he stays, the suburb masses are paying higher prices compare to him and his elitist colleagues in Maitama despite their high consumption. This was how he inflated the school of Lagos State University over 1000% which almost cost ACN Lagos state only to revert the anti-masses policy when he discovered that his party was going down. Fashola should put up his thinking cap so as not lose respect of his admirers with callous policies that is targeted at pauperising the masses |
