Science/TechnologyRe: Picture Of Earth Taken From Saturn by turl(m): 8:41pm On Jul 23, 2013
kj_hova: This type of post will normally generate quite a bit of intelligent discuss in many other places but maybe not in my dear country. While many of our neighbours on the planet were busy saying "cheese" to the inter orbital photo shoot, many in our part of the globe had the least idea that such a thing is going on.
As we speak, the Int. Space Station, ISS, is fully operational, Voyager 1 & 2 space probes are crossing into inter stellar territory and Mars rover Curiosity is busy scooping soil, rocks and air sample from the red planet yet Africa stumbles on in her self created cesspool of greed, hatred, ignorance, non-challance to knowledge and general disconnection from the advancing of human capacity.

At any rate, isn't it a marvel that a picture of the Earth captured by a robot created by die hard atheists would generate such reverence for god(s) as is been expressed on this thread?

Just my thoughts really.
you sir, are a legend!

Oxygenmayo: On a more frank note...you're reading your virtual bible on a BB, say you're meditating on it as obliged; and you got a ping..tell me won't you be distracted?

Or better still, you have your holy book on your phone..and on it you keep explicit photography..is that sacred anyone?

Tell me, can the virtual bible repel an attack from demons? Never!!!

Do not be fooled or deceived, technology is good and modernization is okay to some instance but never should it take the place of God's work in your hand..while using an iPad in the church or mosque..you can be tempted to switch over to something else in the course of the service. but if you are with the printed copy, and you're disciplined, nothing, I say nothing can distract you...He that has an ear, let him hear....#SimpleTruth
'Or better still, you have your holy book on your phone..and on it you keep explicit photography..is that sacred anyone?'

- I think the person crosses that 'sacred' line when he/she views sexually explicit images.

'Do not be fooled or deceived, technology is good and modernization is okay to some instance but never should it take the place of God's work in your hand'

- but it's ok to have it in your heart..right?

'you can be tempted to switch over to something else in the course of the service. but if you are with the printed copy, and you're disciplined, nothing, I say nothing can distract you'

- as someone mentioned, discipline is the word.

pammusphy: Have you come across someone who told you the moment He/she opened the bible "my eyes fell on that passage!"?
Also, you cannot underline the soft copy..
The words look raw and practical on tangible pages
you'd get tired of reading it more easily because of the light emanating from the screen.
Though, in certain aspects, the software is good. We arent totally brushing it aside. It can help in word search...and maybe reading it where you cannot open your Bible. BUT, DONT USE IT IN THE CHURCH
Sorry but I doubt you've used any of the current bible apps lately.
'you cannot underline the soft copy..'
- you can indeed highlight softcopy for future reference.

'The words look raw and practical on tangible pages'
..meh..someone probably complained that the words had less impact when they started writing on scrolls as opposed to carving them into stones.

'you'd get tired of reading it more easily because of the light emanating from the screen.'
- you can control the brightness and contrast. Some apps even make the screen adjust the its surrounding lighting. (i know, crazy right?)

Fact is, us humans don't like change. It takes conscious effort to accept that things have changed around us before we begin to adapt to it.

I know of churches here in England that have embraced this and swapped their hymn books for ipads as it saves money on the long run.

The added advantages outway any possible arguments critics string up.
- You can access scriptures faster. (books can be viewed alphabetically and verses and chapters are easily viewed as opposed to flipping through pages)

- You can bookmark verses and even take notes (pretty neat!)

- You can download so many versions. (the files are pretty small and are most likely free)

- Audio versions are readily available (access for the blind or visually impaired)

- And the best pro; its not heavy and is always with you.

TravelRe: Visitors From Nigeria To UK To Pay £3000 Bond Before Entry by turl(m): 11:12pm On Jun 24, 2013
eddiebomba: My guy, please park well! Anybody here talking about us retaliating with our own parallel policy is just a petty squabbler exhibiting hypocritically false patriotism & sour grapes. There's only one reason why the UK would come up with policies such as this: to protect their quality of life from those whose sole aim of going into their country is to constitute a drain on their own resources & systems. Let's face the glaring fact of why so many of our people run over to their country: THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE IS FAR SUPERIOR TO OUR OWN. Tell me who has the better social and physical infrastructure - the better transport system, public facilities, more effective educational system, viable healthcare, security apparatus, accountable government&judiciary - even in the face of a recession hitting their economy? Why do you think the average Briton is nowhere near as desperate to come down and settle in Nigeria as we are to get over there? The simple truth is that many of us go there to enjoy their superior quality of life, which we in this country are collectively TOO SELFISH to provide for each other (case in point: we buying the best &latest cars, only for us to drive them on the worst roads!). Its not Nigerians or any other nationals who made British society what it is - its the Brits themselves!

And so what if Nigerians are one of the largest shopping groups in the UK - u think they don't suspect we're coming to shop in their country with stolen government money?! To those of us who are quick to absolve ourselves of responsibility for the corruption that is so rife in our country - a country whose people are too wussy (yes, WUSSY) to confront their corrupt leaders &force them to do the right thing, eg the fuel subsidy protests & probe, which both died with a whimper - don't be so offended if they consider the generality of us as accomplices, so they refuse to let us spend our -rightly or wrongly - ill-gotten wealth in their country as a matter of principle. I tell you, if we come up with our own counter bond, we'll be a huge laughing stock to them, & our pleasure-loving political elite know it - that's why they won't try it! Besides, they (the elite) can afford to put up the £3,000 bond for themselves, so they won't even bother challenging it - Nigerian selfishness, remember!
x 100

See people getting butt hurt over facts lol. It's the sad truth but it's the truth nonetheless. The UK provides a way better quality of life than Nigeria. As long as our leaders continue to be greedy and we continue to do nothing, we just won't go anywhere.
Science/TechnologyRe: Magician Dynamo Levitates From The Roof Of A London Bus by turl(m): 10:57pm On Jun 24, 2013
1 There's no bus 543 in London.
2 The fake bus suggests the passengers are part of the show.
3 The arm on the bus looks weird in some shots so I'm guessing its fake.

I'm guessing the fake hand on the bus is connected to a structure that holds him around the groin area so that's where majority of his weight rests. That would explain how he can swing his legs freely..

Nice stunt though, although one part of me was hoping the driver wouldn't pass through some of those narrow roads.
If the guy jam pole na em be say show don finish o

Jerrite: yea, i did search on google, been trying different methods but still not satisfied with the result, that's why i asked for help. Never tried reducing the opacity tho.
Hi Jerrite, sorry you haven't heard form me man, been tied down with work and other things. I did try to create a tutorial but ran out of patience halfway through lol. So I though I'd point you to where I learnt how to do most of what i know: http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tools-tips/photoshops-pen-tool-the-comprehensive-guide/

Its a long tutorial but its detailed, thorough and better than anything I can serve up at this point.I can guarantee you that if you can grasp the pen tool you'll unlock a ton of possibilities with PS. Let me know If you don't grasp anything at all from the tutorial and that should be easier to answer.

PS: I am aware that this isn't the answer you were looking for but trust me on this. You'll be needing the pen tool for a lot of things besides drawing so it's kind of a must.

djfiifi: Hi Turl
I am an amateur in P.S,
Could you please educate me in how to change the background of a picture using PS 5.
Will be counting on you for the steps.
Hi Dj, To change the background you need to be able to 'lift' the object you want from the picture and put it on a desired background. This can be achieved through different means and the best option depends on the image you're trying to move to a new background. If it's an image with sharp/straight edges then the lasso tool might do the trick or a single coloured image can be lifted with the magic wand tool.
An image with rough edges like hair will have to be carefully selected, probably with the use of masking and contrasting..and the list goes on.

My point is, it depends on the image, how about you post a screenshot and I'll tell you the easiest and fastest way to go about it.
Cheers.

emblexxx: pls, how can I use PhotoShop7 to design tattoo
Hi,
Do you have a finished version of your tattoo art on paper or ready or is it something you want to create on photoshop?
If so, then I think you might be going the wrong way about it. You don't really need to use photoshop for anything really unless you feel like cleaning up your sketch (removing confusing parts or correcting mistakes) or tweaking the contrast to make it more visible but as far as concept is concerned, its down to your creativity on paper mate.
Hope I helped. If not, explain your question some more please.

Jerrite: i was trying to convert a photo to cartoon, still finding it difficult. Need help
To do that you'd have make use of the pen tool..create a layer under the photo layer..reduce the opacity of the photo layer to say 40%..now on the new layer you've created, grab the pen tool and start tracing..the best way to understand this fully is to follow a step by step tutorial..you can search for one online but if that isn't good enough, come back here and I'll do a quick tutorial

So google 'convert photo to cartoon on photoshop'

Note that there are many ways to go about this (as is always the case with photoshop) but to actually get a cartooned look, you'd have to literally draw and colour things yourself but don't be scared cos you'll have the picture as a reference.

Hope I've helped in a way..like I said, come back here if things are looking too much to handle and I'll do a tut and walk you through.

Cheers
