Eke40seven: Just two weeks ago, i had a conversation with a friend studying Msc Environmental Sciences in Landau, and here is her sad submission as she moaned into my attentive ears, "See, this is a place for retirees who are awaiting heaven as they look for a quiet place to rest in their dying days. This place is very small, and jobs are hard to come by. If you actually borrow money to come here, then i will encourage you to return the money back and gladly wait for another year or look forward to another school in a better location. I tried arguing that the place is in the west but she bellowed with a sharp and pained retort, "see, I'm a student here and you are not someone i can lie to and as if the place is not bad enough, the Profs here are racist ba*tards, the Africans are all bottom of the class and the German at the top and this is not because they are not bright but even for courses we both fail, the Germans are well upgraded and we left that way. Just tell your friend to stay away from this clime" Coincidentally, this friend on whose behalf i made this inquiry for got admission in both University of Koblenz-Landau, Environmental Science and BTU Cottbus, Environmental Resource Management, masters. Then from further inquiry, here is what a friend in same course in BTU had to say about the place. "My brother, this place is cool o, not as bad as people portray it, rents are cheaper and Nigerians plenty for this end no be small, but honestly jobs no dey inside this Cottbus but thank God semester tickets dey cover the whole of Brandenburg and Berlin for 6 months. As i dey yarn you self, my job for Berlin na 450 euros, i dey collect, e no plenty but i dey use am manage. I spend up to 2 hours 30 minutes to and fro the work from Cottbus to Berlin but for summer jobs, things are looking up. I got a job in a car manufacturing firm, and the pay is very good on the very north side of 1k monthly, like 1,800 euros. Its not so easy but trust naija na." Here was his humble conclusion, "My brother, if you have to choose between east or west, brother fly go west o if you get that option, men, I no go lie you, walahi" Don't touch it with a barge-pole, just let it be. I and my ogas in the past never touched it and we are safe, at least, for now. The question obviously is not for you to tick. Thanks bro.. And thanks again. You dey clear person eye to reality that's very good. You are a BLESSING to Us in this thread. Keep soaring higher. |

Obiwannn: dont tick it as u are spending more than one year..i.e long stay
adenjnr et cindino, thanks for the exposee. Me intend to enjoy the best of both worlds though, by alternating private and public. Me thinks this is the best way to save money. Hope a niccur is good with this plan? ********'I intend to stay no longer than twelve months in the federal territory and apply for a visa that covers the whole duration of my stay '******* [s] THE EMBASSY WILL GIVE 3 MONTHS VISA TO ENTER GERMANY . WHEN NOW IN GERMANY,THEY WILL GIVE YOU ONE OR TWO YEARS RESIDENCE PERMIT WHEN ONE APPLIES AT THE LOCAL AUTHORITY. THE STATEMENT SIMPLY MEANS.. DO YOU WANT TO STAY IN GERMANY WITHIN 12 MONTHS DURING WHICH YOU APPLY FOR A RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR YOUR STUDY. THE ANSWER IS YES. BECAUSE WITHIN 3 MONTHS YOU SHOULD HAVE APPLIED. SO IT SHOULD BE TICKED. MY OWN OPINION. [/s] MY OPINION IS NOT CORRECT. I'M NOT VERY CERTAIN SO I CANCELLED IT. TILL THE LIGHT ON THIS IS FULLY SHONE. New light.. I read an opinion in a forum that it's intended for study or stay less than a year. So it should not be ticked. |

Thanks. |

Cindino20: My advise to everyone includin Takeastep...quitely go for public Insurance baba...if u re under 30 u will contribute abt 81.50euros a mth...the advantages re far more than private insurance...
Disadvantages of Private Insurance...
1.if you visit the hospital..u get to pay ur bill fitst and then get partial refund from ur insurance coy...very tricky and the health care cost is high..a friend of mine once vsiited a Dr. And complained of abdominal pains only for the doc to just examine him, gave him pain relievers and then referred him to the general hospital again nothin was diagnosed and he was asked to take same drugs he received from the former doc....and my friend recieved abt 120euros for the first doc( Dr.Pain .....) and abt 140 for the second one...He had to pay and then file a claim with his insurance company..save urself this headache...yes pple will argue that Nigerians don't fall ill yes I agree I barely visit the clinic ( except when I ve "wicklo" caused by bittin my nails out of boredom or being tensed..u wont believe..I had to do an Xray and a minor sugery for that , If I was usin a private Insurance coy I would ve been done with financially cos I did 2 minor surgery within 6mths.. ) ....to be on the safer side just go with the govt insurance .
2. Some employers will not employ u with private insurance ( e.g Amazon).
3.In some uni ...they prefer and encourage student to use govt insurance ...Aok..Tk..etc.
Disadvantage of Govt Insurance....
Cost...the difference is abt 40 euros a mth....
Think and choose wisely
All the best pple. SETTLED! THANKS A LOT |

takeastep: Sorry for the rather late reply. i have been resting.
I took Turkish airlines; night flight. It was about 172k. Stopped over at Istanbul then immediately took a connecting flight straight to Hamburg. Then took a train straight to the city centre then a bus to my apartment. The flight was awesome. Ate everything on offer (No dulling; no go do first time gentle boy ooo. Your money covers everything)
Turkish airline allows 2pcs of 23kg. I took a very big bus which i think was bigger than 46kg; but i was advised by the custom official at MMA to split it into two. So, i think its advisable you get two bags too. Make sure you package your stuff very well, particularly your foodstuffs. Wrap them well in used newspaper and cello-tape each differently. Liquids arent allowed in the plane so you have to do a very tight packing. The immigration officers detected my body cream and it was seized. Do a tight packing, i repeat and be confident when you get to MMA. Those custom pple would always ask you what you have in your bag. Be free to explain.
I wasn't really queried. Once they heard i am going for a research and i am also a government employee...it was smooth sailing.
Get as much as would sustain you for few weeks before you settle down. As for me, what i have here might take me for a whole month. Rice, beans, garri, noodles, spag, even ogbono...lol
I hope this helps. Any more question? feel free to ask. The Hamburg Man is here for you. lol ABEG SHEY NA ONE WAY OR RETURN TICKET |

takeastep: I didnt use any of both. I'm actually going for a 3-month research at the University of Hamburg; a prelude to my Phd which i hope to commence after the 3 months stay. My host will be paying me 1000 Euro monthly for the period of stay. It was written boldly in the letter of invitation. So i didnt need to show forth any sort of financial muscle; just my credentials, required documents and proof of work experience. Your proof of work experience. Did you submit your cv or professional certifications? |

Somebody asked about exams. For this class certificate, you don't. necessarily need to wrote the certificate exam, The series of tests (3) will cover for that. Cc @ amahtrendy Thanks Eke40seven... But I thought the registration begins on the 20th of July.. I guess it's now July 27 right? |

Kelvinpam: Goodday House Earlier on, i complained about a change in my interview date. Well that is not all. I just discovered we were instructed to fill our application form online from now on and den print it. I suspect this change should be for applicants scheduled to hold their interview by august. For those that have not done their interview and used the previous downloaded application form (like i did), Kindly recheck your emails if you were affected by the changes and make the necessary corrections. A friend of mine who booked same day as i did confirmed the change in interview date and application form.
Here is the email i received today:
