Intending Couples: 5 Medical Tests You Should Do Before You Get Married

For most people, the joy of finding true love and deciding to enter into matrimony with a spouse usually knows no bounds. However, most people enter into this lifelong union without adequate knowledge of their partner’s health status and so become disappointed and frustrated with marriage because of medical conditions that could have been identified and tackled before this lifelong commitment.
The knowledge of your intending partner’s health status by no means implies that marriage is not possible, but provides an avenue to make informed consent and enables you and your spouse to seek proper medical care early to prevent unnecessary stress and burden during marriage. In this article, we will be looking at 5 medical tests you should do before you get married.

1. Test for HIV and other sexual transmitted diseases (STDs)

With the current prevalence of HIV and other STDs, it is important that spouses should request for their partners to be screened for these diseases before marriage. HIV, hepatitis B and C are lifelong conditions that, if not properly managed, can put serious strain on the marriage. The knowledge of your partner’s status helps you to protect yourself/ seek adequate medical care if your partner turns out to be positive and you also decide to go ahead with the marriage. Lifelong care and support is needed for partners who are infected. Other STDs e.g. gonorrhea, syphilis, bacterial vaginosis and warts can be treated with proper medical care. This reduces the risk of infertility and miscarriages during marriage.

2. Test for blood group:

Knowledge of your spouse’s blood group is important before marriage because of rhesus isoimmunisation/ blood group incompatibility that affects the fetus. This test is easy to perform and the result is usually ready within 30 minutes. Blood group is assigned to an individual as A, B, O and AB with another component known as the Rhesus factor, which is referred to as positive or negative. Women with rhesus negative blood group married to rhesus positive husbands have a greater chance of rhesus incompatibility, where the mother produces antibodies (body defense system) to target the red blood cells of the growing fetus (rhesus positive fetus), leading to intrauterine death and miscarriages. Knowledge of your spouse’s blood group will alert your doctor to institute preventive measures which are used to prevent rhesus incompatibility reactions during pregnancy.

3. Test for sickle cell gene:

Sickle cell disease is a chronic and debilitating medical condition caused by a defect in red blood cells. As the name implies, these cells are shaped as a ‘sickle’ and this affects their ability to pass through tiny blood vessels to supply oxygen to cells and tissue. This accounts for most crises experienced by sickle cell patients. It is advisable for sickle cell patients (SS) not to marry a carrier of the sickle cell gene (AS) because of the 50% chance of having a baby with the disease in each pregnancy. However, a sickle cell patient (SS) can marry an individual with no trait of the disease (AA), as their offspring will only be carriers of the sickle cell genes.

4. Fertility Test

This may sound out of place or weird, but truth be told, a fertility test is another test that all intending coupes should do before saying ‘I DO’. This is important because fertility issues can be addressed as early as possible without the unnecessary biological, psychological, social and emotional trauma associated with barrenness. A fertility test typically includes seminal analysis for the men to assess for male fertility; hormonal assay for both couples e.g. FSH, LH, Prolactin, Testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. Test for ovulation for the women, a pelvic ultrasound scan, may also be needed to assess the internal reproductive organs for any congenital or acquired abnormalities.

5. Testing for possible genetic /chronic medical conditions:

Marriage is a lifelong commitment with both partners looking after each another. Knowledge of possible genetic or chronic conditions of your partner wouldn’t be harmful, but it will go a long way in assisting both couples on how to best prepare for the challenges ahead. Early testing allows couples to seek medical care before the medical conditions arrive at a terminal stage. This test depends on the region and the common chronic/genetic condition seen in that populace. However, this test should include screening for diabetes, test for hypertension, certain cancers, kidney disease and test for thalassemia.
Do you agree that couples should screen for medical conditions before they get married?
CrimeWoman Kills Husband, Three Kids, Self Over Lingering Feud(photo) by TyroneP(op): 8:42am On Nov 04, 2018
Woman kills husband, three kids, self over lingering feud

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a man and his three children by his wife , Rachael Adetsav, who also took her life .
The children were named Ngwuavese , Senater and Joshua.
Our correspondent gathered that the woman , after killing her family members , rushed out of their apartment to smash her husband ’s car before she locked up the door and stabbed herself in the chest .

The command ’s spokesman , Mr Moses Yamu , in an interview with the News Agency 0f Nigeria on Saturday, said , “The man , Mr Nicholas Adetsav, an employee of Makurdi Local Government Council , and his children were killed on Friday night in Makurdi .
“His wife , who we believe is responsible for the death of the four people , also killed herself . From information available to us , the woman has been having issues with her husband , which might have culminated in this .”
Yamu said the couple, who lived at Vandeikya Street , opposite NKST Church , both worked with the Makurdi Local Government Council .
“They have been having issues ; just yesterday ( Friday ) , the woman was seen with a pestle trying to smash her husband ’s car . No one knows the cause of their frequent fights , ” the PPRO said .
He said police personnel sent to the house found the man foaming in the mouth , the three kids already dead , and the woman, also dead , was found holding a knife in her hands .
“The incident happened around 8 .30 pm on Friday . From what we have gathered , the couple fought on a daily basis , ” he told NAN .
A neighbour of the couple, Sandra Kaso , who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH , said the mother of three must have first hit the husband on the head with a pestle and, when he was unconscious, cut open his throat before butchering their three children.
She explained , “ When we heard the sound , we came out and found the woman breaking the windscreen of their vehicle. She then went inside and locked the door . We tried to prevail on her to open the door but she refused .

“At a point, when the fight was becoming prolonged , we had to alert the caretaker of the house so that he could call the police but he said if we couldn ’t settle the matter , we would be held responsible .
“By the time we called the police at about 9 pm , she had already killed every member of the family. The police had to break open the door to find all members of the family in a pool of blood .”
Residents of the area who gathered at the victims ’ residence described the woman as troublesome, adding that she had stabbed a neighbour once and the case was still in court .
When our correspondent visited the house , a massive clot of blood covered the apartment of the couple.
One of Nicholas ’ colleagues, Janet Iorpav, described him as someone who could not hurt a fly .
Iorpav said , “I knew Nick before he got married . He was a gentleman and a lovely person, but his life changed the moment he got married .”
According to her, everyone at the office knew Rachel as a troublesome person who could use anything to harm whoever crossed her way .
“No one dared court her trouble because there and then , she would tell the person that she would kill him or her ,” Iorpav said .
Yamu , however , stated that investigation had begun to determine the reasons for the murder - suicide, adding that the corpses had been deposited at the morgue of the St . Theresa’ s Catholic Hospital , Makurdi .
The Chairman , Makurdi Local Government Council , Mrs Akange Audu , confirmed that the couple were employees of the local government council .
“The husband worked in the Department of Finance , while his wife worked with the Department of Agriculture ,” she said .
She also confirmed that the couple “were always fighting ,” adding that the woman had warned neighbours to stay out of their fights .
A cross section of the neighbours , who spoke to NAN , also stated that the couple had been having issues.

They said the couple had been fighting since Friday afternoon , but no one seemed sure of the cause of their fight .
One of the neighbours told NAN that she stopped intervening in their quarrels when Mrs . Adetsav threatened her with a knife during one of such interventions .

PoliticsBREAKING: Court Stops NLC, Tuc’s Planned Strike by TyroneP(op): 1:50pm On Nov 02, 2018
BREAKING: Court stops NLC, TUC’s planned strike

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has ordered the organised labour, comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress not to embark on its indefinite strike scheduled to commence on November 6 .
Justice Sanusi Kado , on Friday , gave the order in a ruling on an ex parte application moved on behalf of the Federal Government by the Solicitor -General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary , Federal Ministry of Justice , Mr . Dayo Apata .
Agreeing with Apata , Justice Kado ruled that if the strike is allowed it would lead to huge economic loss to both public and private institutions and could jeopardise the health of many Nigerians who would not be able to access health facilities during the period .
The organised labour had threatened to commence an indefinite strike action to press for the increase in the national minimum wage from the current N18 ,000 .

The last meeting of the tripartite negotiation committee on the minimum wage had ended in deadlock after the Federal Government insisted that it could only afford to pay N25 ,000 , while the governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors ’ Forum had held on to N 22 , 500 and the labour N 30 , 000 .
Apart from the NLC and the TUC , the NGF is also joined as a defendant in the suit .
Justice Kado adjourned the matter till November 8 for the hearing of the motion on notice seeking the interlocutory injunction to stop the strike.
The judge ordered that the court order and other papers be filed on all the defendants .

Catholics, dark world battle as American witches curse Trump’s appointee, Brett Kavanaugh

A spiritual battle for the soul of the newly confirmed U.S . Supreme Court Justice , Brett Kavanaugh , took the centre stage on Saturday as a coven of New York witches placed a curse on Kavanaugh .
In reaction, some leaders of America ’s Catholic Church have countered the curse by “ standing in the gap ” for Kavanaugh , whom the church celebrates as “pro- life and anti -abortion .”
Dozens of witchcraft fans and curious minds attended the event at Brooklyn ’s Catland Books , while the event was also streamed online for effective viewership .
Organisers said the event was “an act of resistance and resilience .”
The American Senate had voted 50 - 48 on Saturday, October 6 , to confirm President Donald Trump ’s nominee , Brett Kavanaugh , to the Supreme Court .

Kavanaugh ’s nomination appeared to be in jeopardy for weeks , after multiple women came forward to publicly accuse him of sexual misconduct in high school and college . Kavanaugh denied the allegations in statements and testimony .
After several tumultuous weeks of uncertainty , Judge Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court , effectively becoming American Supreme Court ’s most embattled justice in decades.
Pro -abortion groups had loudly denounced Kavanaugh as a “serious threat to women ’s right” to abortion , fearing he will protect the life of unborn babies in his rulings .
Dakota Bracciale, co - owner of Catland Books and one of the organisers of the cursing event , said they would not share details or specifics of “the spells, ” but told the BBC that the curse was “aimed at exposing Brett Kavanaugh for what he truly is , to cause him harm and see him undone. ”
The Catland Books is a metaphysical boutique and occult bookshop in Brooklyn , New York, and they titled the event , “ The Ritual to Hex Brett Kavanaugh ;” while also targeting some other “enemies.”
The event held for three hours , starting at 7 p .m ., with the organisers swearing down that “all rapists and the patriarchy which emboldens , rewards and protects them ” will be cursed .
While the organisers were unable to state , categorically , when the curses would effectively take effect on their object , they expressed confidence that it would be “as soon as possible ;” adding: “There ’s not a firm timeline on these things. ”
Tickets to the event quickly sold out , with the organisers saying that half of the proceeds would be donated to charities , including the women ’s health group , Planned Parenthood .
But Catholics and exorcists are not backing down , as they have responded to the news , “fire for fire .”
A Catholic priest and exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose , California , Father Gary Thomas , opted to counter the spell by saying prayers for the justice at Mass .
“This is a conjuring of evil — not about free speech ,” Father Thomas told the National Catholic Register .
While the event gathered momentum earlier last week , Father Thomas offered Mass for Kavanaugh on Thursday and also on Saturday, the D -Day .
His training in Rome was the subject of the 2010 book , The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist , that was made into a movie in 2011 .
In the 12 years since becoming an exorcist, Father Thomas said that he had witnessed people in the satanic world becoming bolder.
“They are more confident that the general public will be more accepting of the demonic ,” he lamented .
By contrast , Father Thomas noted that throughout history, satanic groups have been secretive, but now they are making it public in the name of freedom of religion .
“This is a conjuring of evil — not about free speech ,” he said . “Conjuring up personified evil does not fall under free speech . Satanic cults often commit crimes ; they murder and sexually abuse everyone in their cult, ” he warned .
Father Thomas said that those involved in the curse on Kavanaugh clearly believe in the power of personified evil . “They are going to direct the evil to have a permanently adverse effect on the Supreme Court justice .”
He , however , gave Kavanaugh hope , noting, “ When curses are directed at people in a state of grace , they have little or no effect .”
Except for grace , the Catholic priest warns , “harm could come upon people such as physical illness , psychosis , depression and having demons attach to them when cursed ”.
He explained that curses sometimes involve a blood sacrifice, either through an animal or a human being , such as an aborted baby.
“The decision to do this against a Supreme Court justice is a heinous act and says a lot about the character of these people that should not be underestimated or dismissed ,” Father Thomas warns . “These are real evil people .”
A manager at a Catholic apostolate was also inspired to fast and pray the Rosary for three days and to give alms to counter the witches ’ intention.
She asks that “God will have mercy on those involved , that He will give everyone the grace of faith and repentance , and that He will grant spiritual protection to Brett Kavanaugh .”
The unnamed church manager said they were giving alms because , “St . Augustine said that fasting and alms -giving are the wings with which our prayers fly safely and are more easily carried to Heaven , where Christ our Peace has preceded us .’”
PoliticsWhat You Don't Know About Atiku Abubakar by TyroneP(op): 3:59pm On Oct 08, 2018
Atiku Abubakar GCON (born 25 November 1946) is a Nigerian politician, businessman, who served as the second elected vice-president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Abubakar worked in the Nigeria Customs Service for twenty years, rising to become the Deputy Director, as the second highest position in the Service was then known. He retired in April 1989 and took up full-time business and politics. He ran for the office of governor in the
Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba States) in 1991, and for the Presidency in 1993, placing third after MKO Abiola and
Babagana Kingibe in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries.
In 1998 he was elected Governor of Adamawa State. While still Governor-Elect he was selected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate Olusegun Obasanjo as his running mate. The duo went on to win elections in February 1999, and Abubakar was sworn-in as Nigeria's second democratically elected vice president on 29 May 1999.
Abubakar's second term as Vice President was marked by a stormy relationship with President Obasanjo. His bid to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter's support, and it took a judgment of the Supreme Court to allow Abubakar contest after he was initially disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission on the grounds that he had been indicted for financial misconduct by an investigating panel set up at Obasanjo's behest. The Supreme Court ordered the electoral commission to restore Abubakar's name onto the presidential ballot. Abubakar ran on the platform of the Action Congress , having quit the PDP on account of his issues with President Obasanjo. Abubakar lost the election, placing third after Umaru Yar'Adua and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) .
Abubakar is a co-founder of Intels, an oil servicing business with extensive operations in Nigeria and abroad. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) , both in Yola, Adamawa .
Early life
Atiku Abubakar was born on November 25, 1946 to a Fulani trader and farmer Garba Abubakar, and his second wife, Aisha Kande, in Jada village of Adamawa State. Atiku Abubakar became the only child of his parents when his only sister died at infancy. Atiku’s father and mother divorced before his father died in 1957 and his mother remarried. Eventually, his mother died in 1984 of heart attack. Atiku Abubakar could not start school when he ought to because his father was opposed to him obtaining western education. When his not going to school was noticed, his father was arrested and jailed until he paid a fine. Consequently, Atiku Abubakar got registered into Jada Primary School at the age of eight. After his primary school, Atiku was admitted into Adamawa Provincial Secondary School Yola in the year 1960. He later finished his Secondary school in 1965 after he made Grade Three in West African School Certificate Examination. Atiku Abubakar then proceeded to Nigerian Police College, Kaduna. He left the college for a work as Tax Officer in the Regional Ministry of Finance. Later he got admission to study at the School of Hygiene Kano in 1966. In 1967, he graduated with a Diploma. That same year, Atiku Abubakar was admitted for a Law Diploma at Ahmadu Bello University on a scholarship. He graduated in 1969 and got employed in the Nigerian Custom Service that same year.
Education
Like many of his generation, Abubakar's father was opposed to the idea of Western education, and tried to keep Abubakar out of the traditional school system. When the government discovered that Abubakar was not attending mandatory schooling, his father spent a few days in jail until Aisha Kande's mother paid the fine. [1]
At the age of eight Abubakar enrolled in the Jada Primary School. In 1960, he was admitted to Adamawa Provincial Secondary School in Yola where he did well in English Language and Literature, struggled with Physics and Chemistry and Mathematics. He graduated with a Grade Three WASC/GCE Certificate in 1965.
Following secondary school, Abubakar studied a short while at the Nigeria Police College in
Kaduna . He left the College when he was unable to present an O-Level Mathematics result. [2] He worked briefly as a Tax Officer in the regional Ministry of Finance, from where he gained admission to the school of Hygiene in
Kano in 1966.
He graduated with a Diploma in 1967, having served as Interim Student Union President at the school. In 1967 he enrolled for a Law Diploma at the Ahmadu Bello University Institute of Administration, on a scholarship from regional government. After graduation in 1969, during the Nigerian Civil War , he was employed by the Nigeria Customs Service.
Marriages and family
While at Idi-Iroko, Abubakar met nineteen-year-old Titilayo Albert, who he secretly married in December 1971, in Lagos, because her family was initially opposed to the union. On 26 October 1972, Titilayo delivered a baby girl they named Fatima. She later gave birth to Adamu, Halima and Aminu.
In January 1979 he married Ladi Yakubu as his second wife. "I wanted to expand the Abubakar family. I felt extremely lonely as a child. I had no brother and no sister. I did not want my children to be as lonely as I was. This is why I married more than one wife. My wives are my sisters, my friends, and my advisers and they complement one another," Abubakar has said. [3] He has six children with Ladi: Abba, Atiku, Zainab, Ummi-Hauwa, Maryam and Rukayatu.
In 1983 he married his third wife, Princess Rukaiyatu, daughter of the late Lamido of Adamawa. She gave birth to AIsha, Hadiza, Aliyu (named after her late father), Asmau, Mustafa, Laila and Abdulsalam. His fourth wife, Fatima Shettima, followed in 1986. Fatima gave birth to her first child Amina (Meena), Mohammed and two sets of twins Ahmed and Shehu, Zainab and Aisha then her last daughter Hafsat.
Abubakar later divorced Ladi, allowing him to marry, as his fourth wife (the maximum permitted him as a Muslim), Jennifer.
Business
Abubakar started out in the real estate business during his early days as a Customs Officer. In 1974 he applied for and received a 31,000 naira loan to build his first house in Yola, which he put up for rent. From proceeds of the rent he purchased another plot, and built a second house. He continued this way, building a sizeable portfolio of property in Yola.
In 1981 he moved into agriculture, acquiring 2,500 hectares of land near Yola to start a maize and cotton farm. The business fell on hard times and closed in 1986. "My first foray into agriculture, in the 1980s, ended in failure," he wrote in an April 2014 blog. [4]
He then ventured into trading, buying and selling truckloads of rice, flour and sugar.
His most important business move came while he was a Customs Officer at the Apapa Ports. Gabrielle Volpi, an Italian businessman in Nigeria, invited him to set up Nigeria Container Services (NICOTES), a logistics company operating within the Ports. NICOTES would go on to provide immense wealth to Abubakar. Conflict of interest accusations have since trailed him on account of his involvement in business while a civil servant, who exercised supervisory authority.
On his part, Abubakar has defended the decision, saying his involvement was limited to the ownership of shares (which government rules permitted), and that he was not involved in day-to-day running of the business. NICOTES would later be rebranded INTELS, and go on to feature prominently in accusations of money laundering levelled against Abubakar by the U.S. government during his Vice Presidency.
Abubakar's business empire also includes a beverage manufacturing plant in Yola, as well as an animal feed factory.
Politics
Abubakar's first foray into politics was in the early 1980s, when he worked behind-the-scenes on the governorship campaign of
Bamanga Tukur , who at that time was managing director of the Nigeria Ports Authority. He canvassed for votes on behalf of Tukur, and also donated to the campaign. Towards the end of his Customs career, he met Shehu Musa Yar'Adua , who had been second-in-command of the military government that ruled Nigeria between 1976 and 1979. Abubakar was drawn by Yar'Adua into the political meetings that were now happening regularly in Yar'Adua's Lagos home. In 1989 Abubakar was elected a National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Front of Nigeria, the political association led by Yar'Adua, to participate in the transition programme initiated by Head of State Ibrahim Babangida. The Peoples Front of Nigeria included politicians such as Umaru Musa Yar'Adua , Babalola Borishade , Bola Tinubu , Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila , Rabiu Kwankwaso and Sabo Bakin Zuwo .
Abubakar won a seat to represent his constituency at the 1989 Constituent Assembly, set up to decide a new constitution for Nigeria. The People's Front was eventually denied registration by the government (none of the groups that applied was registered), and found a place within the Social Democratic Party, one of the two parties decreed into existence by the regime.
First governorship run (1990)
On 1 September 1990, Abubakar announced his Gongola State gubernatorial bid. A year later, before the elections could hold, Gongola State was broken up into two – Adamawa and Taraba States – by the Federal Government. Abubakar fell into the new Adamawa State. After the contest he won the SDP Primaries in November 1991, but was soon disqualified by government from contesting the elections.
First presidential run (1992)
A similar fate – disqualification by the military – would befall Shehu Musa Yar'Adua , Abubakar's friend and political mentor, in his 1992 bid for the presidential primary of the SDP. With no chance of contesting for the presidency, Yar'Adua decided to push Abubakar forward as the focal point of SDP's ambitions. Abubakar came third in the convention primary. But because MKO Abiola , the winner, had won by only about 400 votes a run-off was due. Abubakar stepped down for Abiola, asking his supporters to cast their votes for him, with an unwritten agreement that Abiola would announce Abubakar as his running mate. Abiola won the SDP ticket, and announced Babagana Kingibe , the runner-up, as his running mate.
Second governorship run (1998)
In 1998 Abubakar launched a bid for the governorship of Adamawa State on the platform of the People's Democratic Party. He won the December 1998 elections, but before he could be sworn in he was tapped by the PDP's presidential candidate, former Head of State Olusegun Obasanjo, as his vice-presidential candidate. The Obasanjo-Abubakar ticket won the 27 February 1999 presidential election with 62.78 percent of the vote. [5]
Vice Presidency (1999–2007)
Seal of the Vice-President.
Abubakar was sworn in as Vice-President of Nigeria on 29 May 1999. He presided over the National Council on Privatization, overseeing the sale of hundreds of loss-making and poorly managed public enterprises.
In 1999 he, alongside South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma , launched the South Africa Nigeria Binational Commission. [6]
In 2006, Abubakar was involved in a bitter public battle with his boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, ostensibly arising from the latter's bid to amend certain provisions of the constitution to take another shot at the presidency (for the third consecutive time). [7]
In a November 2013 interview Abubakar is quoted as saying, regarding Obasanjo's alleged attempts to justify his third term bid: "[He] informed me that 'I left power twenty years ago, I left Mubarak in office, I left Mugabe in office, I left Eyadema in office, I left Umar Bongo, and even Paul Biya and I came back and they are still in power; and I just did eight years and you are asking me to go; why?' And I responded to him by telling him that Nigeria is not Libya, not Egypt, not Cameroun, and not Togo; I said you must leave; even if it means both of us lose out, but you cannot stay." [8]
The debate and acrimony generated by the failed constitutional amendment momentarily caused a rift in the People's Democratic Party. The Nigerian National Assembly eventually voted against any amendments allowing Obasanjo to run for another term. [9]
The Abubakar-Obasanjo face-off damaged the personal relationship between both men.
Second presidential run (2006–2007)
On 25 November 2006 Abubakar announced that he would run for president. On 20 December 2006, he was chosen as the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC). [10]
On 14 March 2007, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the final list of 24 aspirants for 21 April presidential election . Abubakar's name was missing from the ballot. INEC issued a statement stating that Abubakar's name was missing because he was on a list of persons indicted for corruption by a panel set up by the government. [11] Abubakar headed to the courts on 16 March to have his disqualification overturned.
Abubakar with Muhammadu Buhari .
The Supreme Court unanimously ruled on 16 April that INEC had no power to disqualify candidates. [12]
The ruling allowed Abubakar to contest the election, although there were concerns that it might not be possible to provide ballots with Abubakar's name by 21 April, the date of the election. On 17 April, a spokesman for INEC said that Abubakar would be on the ballot.
According to official results, Abubakar took third place, behind PDP candidate Umaru Yar'Adua and ANPP candidate Muhammadu Buhari, with approximately 7% of the vote (2.6 million votes). Abubakar rejected the election results and called for its cancellation, describing it as Nigeria's "worst election ever." [13]
He stated that he would not attend Umaru Yar'Adua's inauguration on 29 May due to his view that the election was not credible, saying that he did not want to "dignify such a hollow ritual with my presence." [14]
Fourth presidential run (2018)
Atiku declared his candidacy under the People's Democratic Party of Nigeria and won the presidential ticket on October 7, 2018. He won the ticket with 1, 532 delegate votes.
Post Vice-Presidency
Third presidential run (2011)
Following the 2007 elections, Abubakar returned to the People's Democratic Party. In October 2010 he announced his intention to contest for the Presidency. On 22 November, a Committee of Northern Elders selected him as the Northern Consensus Candidate, over former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, former National Security Adviser Aliyu Gusau and Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State. [15]
In January 2011, Abubakar contested for the Presidential ticket of his party alongside President Jonathan and Sarah Jubril, and lost the primary, garnering 805 votes to President Jonathan's 2736. [16]
Relationship with President Obasanjo
On 30 March 2014, Nigerian media reported that a delegation from the Northern Youth Leaders Forum visited Obasanjo at his home in Abeokuta and pleaded with him to "forgive your former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of whatever political sin or offence he might have committed against you." In response Obasanjo is quoted as saying that "as a leader and father, I bear no grudge against anybody and if there is, I have forgiven them all." [17]
Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM)
In August 2013, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered two new political parties. One of them was the Peoples Democratic Movement. Local media reports suggested that the party was formed by Abubakar as a back-up plan in case he was unable to fulfill his rumoured presidential ambitions on the PDP platform. [18] In a statement Abubakar acknowledged that the PDM was founded by his "political associates", but that he remained a member of the PDP. [19]
All Progressives Congress

PoliticsRe: Osun Rerun: Fayemi Leads APC Chieftains To Omisore’s Residence. Photo by TyroneP(m): 5:41pm On Sep 25, 2018
Gossiplover:
Kayode Fayemi, governor-elect of Ekiti state, on Thursday led some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the residence of Iyiola Omisore, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in Osun state governorship election.

His visit comes 24 hours after that of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The PDP and APC are wooing Omisore ahead of the governorship rerun scheduled for Thursday.

The rerun will hold in seven polling units across four local government areas — Orolu, Ife north, Ife south and Osogbo.

Ife is the stronghold of Omisore.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Saturday’s election inconclusive.

Ademola Adeleke of the PDP had polled 254,699, while his closest challenger, Isiaka Oyetola of the APC had 254,345 votes.

With 128,049 votes, Omisore placed a distant third.

Although all the 48 political parties will partake in the exercise, the contest is between Adeleke and Oyetola.

While receiving Saraki on Monday, Omisore listed the conditions under which he would work for any of the two leading parties.

“I have given my programmes to both the APC and the PDP. My programme is like this; payment of salaries and pensions. Good governance is what is important to me,” he had told reporters after the meeting.

“Anyone between the two that will do that will get my support. I am passionate about Osun State and my interest is the welfare of the people of this state. I have told those sent to me. At the appropriate time, we will tell you where we are going.”

RomanceRe: How Can I Ask My Girlfriend To Leave My House After 3 Months? by TyroneP(m): 5:42pm On Sep 23, 2018
Jasen1:
Good day all

Please I really need a good advise insults are welcome also

Please pardon any error in the post

It happened like this

She's a girl I met in 2012 via 2go, we became friends we talk, chat, and call each other, we've been just social media friends we never met each other physically till 2016 when we met in PH for the first time, it WI didn't stay together for more than 10minutes she left, we were still talking

Fast forward to this year I relocated to Abuja and she lives here also. We decided to date each other, she was staying with her sister here while I just rented an apartment, she visited me and passed the night in my house (yes we had sex) so from that day, she started complaining about her sister giving her troubles, always punishing her, she always quarrel with her, soany complain, she said she want to get an apartment, I said OK I will help her get one but first she needs to start working at least when I get the apartment for her she can be able to pay her bills she said OK, 2weeka after she told her that her sister had issues with her husband and she's packing out of the house that her sister is relocating to ph and her sister asked her to leave the house or stay with her husband

She said she can't stay with her sister husband, I then told her to come to my place and stay, she agreed.

Now my problem is this, since she been here she sleep wake up eat morning afternoon and evening, she's not bothered about working anymore like she became so lazy to go out and look for work, I spend lots of money every week making sure we've enough to eat at home. But I'm really getting tired of everything

I don't know how to ask her to leave and again she don't have anywhere to go to, excepts her village or her sister place in Lagos, she has lots of friends here in Abuja but they're not good friends to her, I stopped her from associating with them, but this time if she want to go back to them, I don't mind, I really need space

Please note she's my girlfriend, we are both in our early 20's

I want the best way to ask her to leave that won't cause problem
Jasen, to be honest with you and technically speaking, you just got a wife. You should have made arrangements for work first before moving in so that she could save for her accommodation. But I guess the s3x thing got the best of you way back then. Since you love her, sit her down and tell her what you really want and the way forward. She should get a job. You're lucky she's not pregnant yet. But I bet you, the more the s3x sessions, the higher the risk of her getting pregnant. Live-in lover in your apartment is a wrong decision. Act before it's too late. Correct her in love.

Mr Man what i will advise you first is to educate her on the Catholic Faith coz most of the comment here obviously show a shallow knowledge about what the Catholic faith entails and if she will not listen to you then i will advise that you look elsewhere. Also she has little knowledge about the faith from your post and you should not jeopardize your happiness for that flimsy reason. You can also still marry her and allow her to practice her faith if you want to navigate through.Honestly my advise is for you to let her go if she insist on not accepting your proposal because you are a Catholic. My humble opinion.
Brother, stand for what you believe in. It's better you let her go rather than compromise your faith. A lot of people compromise their faith in such situation like this. On the last day, God will not judge anyone according to denomination but rather what how best you served him. You're dealing with God and not a human. Besides, do not force her into marriage. Pray more about it

Sometimes i wonder why my felllow guys are killing themselves over having a relationship with a lady especially a naija babe.

What do you gain in a relationship with naija babes apart from sex?

See, the truth is that naija babes have nothing to offer in a relationship apart from sex.

They use relationship as a tool to extort money from us. When you dnt spend on them, do you think she will still love (lust) you?

That is why u see them opening some silly threads on how stingy their supposed boyfriends are( those are guys who know whats up)

instead of spending thousands on a lady because u are dating her, carry 500 naira go ashawo house go fucck there, u fit collect change sef..

Those ladies complaing that guys are stingy, ask them how much they have spent on their boyfriends.. U go know say naija babes na scammers..

When u catch a naija babe, fucck her possey... Fucck it like your life depend on it angry

CrimeLawyer Slumps And Die In Court by TyroneP(op): 4:15pm On Mar 17, 2016
Tragedy struck, yesterday, at Igbosere Magistrate’s Court premises Lagos Island, when a lawyer slumped and died after court proceedings. He was in court to represent Okedairo Okedeji 38, and Akolade Agbola, 28, charged with theft of meat and snail worth N28,000. When the lawyer, simply identified as Chidi, got to the court with the defendant, the court had already heard his matter and adjourned till April 14. He then apologised to the court for himself and on behalf of his client for coming late. He was said to have attributed his lateness to the traffic he encountered. It was while he was apologising that he started gasping for breath and coughing profusely. He was rushed outside the court for fresh air, but when he was not getting better, his tie was removed and he pleaded that they should help him get a cab to take him home. A source said: “Later, he could not move so his client had to carry him on his back down stairs. Immediately he got into the cab, he stopped breathing and the taxi man returned him to the court premises, saying he cannot carry a corpse.” It was later confirmed that he died at the Lagos Island General Hospital. His clients, who were arraigned on February 29, were alleged to have committed the said offences on November 11, 2015 and had pleaded not guilty. Magistrate F. M. Dalley granted them N5,000 bail, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the matter to yesterday for trial.

PoliticsThe Chronicles Of Sambo Dasuki-his Worth. by TyroneP(op): 2:20pm On Feb 12, 2016
IF by tomorrow Nigerians wake up to another revelation of how former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki allegedly allocated part of the $2.1billion arms fund, the revelation would likely not raise too much eyebrow. Most people have learnt to take most of the revelations in their stride and like someone said, Nigerians are becoming inured to the different ‘revelations’or to put it simply, It is becoming jaded. I have tried to put myself in the shoes of the former NSA since his incarceration, what goes on in his mind as the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) come up with all the cases against him? While not in support of people corruptly enriching themselves at the expense of all of us, it is essential to draw the line when prosecution becomes persecution, which the Dasuki case is tilting towards. In all I have heard concerning the disbursement or should I say allocation of the arms fund, a case of the former NSA diverting the money into his private pocket has not been established. It has always been that Dasuki gave the money to this or that person. It has not been said the money went into his personal pocket. That brings me to the question; Was Dasuki acting on his own or was he acting on instruction? As NSA, he was answerable to the president, but the disbursement of the money by Dasuki could not have been the decision of the president alone. Members and different chieftains of the former ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) must have sat to determine who gets what and to what purpose before instruction gets to Dasuki to disburse. Are we saying Dasuki took the decision to divert the money without recourse to a higher authority? That is clearly impossible. Another issue is whether those who got the money actually executed the project for which the money was given and whether the money was way above the project it was meant for. But that is another issue entirely. Pray, would Dasuki have disobeyed the command of the president to disburse money? Would he have been able to disobey the order of his superior? I doubt. Now if money was found in Dasuki’ possession, as the DSS claimed when his house was raided, should that be a surprise, who among our leaders do not have huge sum of money in their houses at different times for the purpose of patronage peculiar to politicians and public office holders? The above is just the least of my concern here. My main concern is whether in the bid to nail the former NSA, his fundamental human rights is not being trampled upon. Most of us have continued to hang the guilty verdict on him already since he had been taken to the court of public opinion. If Nigeria’s judiciary is such that the case had to go to a body of jurors, it would have been difficult to get untainted jurors or a prospective juror that had not heard about the matter. Indeed, empaneling impartial jurors would have constituted a problem because the former NSA had been put on public trial for a long time and had been pronounced guilty before his trial. On several occasions, the courts had granted him bail only for him to be re-arrested. When one looks at the way the two agencies of government have gone after Dasuki, one wonders whether there was no other motive behind all that is happening. Has Dasuki been found guilty of misappropriation of public funds by a court of competent jurisdiction? No. In any criminal case, an accused person also has his rights under the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is, he’s innocent until proven guilty. It is however curious to note that not only is Sambo Dasiki being treated like a common criminal, his case is being tossed from one security agency to the other while the court orders for bail have been denied (thrice he had been granted bail and thrice, he had been denied freedom. His request for medical check has been largely ignored because as one government agent is ordered to release him , the other is picking him up. That’s why I asked, what really is Dasuki worth? Do we want him alive or dead? Would his death be of any benefit to anybody? Definitely not. That is why he should be availed the opportunity of medical attention. His request for medical attention should not be ignored. Let’s assume he is a criminal, is a criminal not entitled to medical attention? President Buhari is strict, he is upright all which we know, on the other hand nobody has ever said he is an unfair leader. Dasuki should be treated fairly like all other people involved in this saga.
