You must be kidding me, married and you're both just 23yrs, such a young age. Your age is going to be the CO's area of concerntration. Hope you both have jobs and have travelled together previously on few occassions?

Your travel experience together will work for you if you have one, and an invitation from a relative in the States who will accomodate you, will be better for your case.

You have to be convincing to the CO to get that visa, trust me.....

annabelmom: Hi all, im really excited to discover this site is very educative. Thanks to you all for your advice and contributions, nigerians sure are intelligent. Im proud of you all. Please i need your advice concerning visa to us, i planned applying for a visit visa with my children(2 of them), my husband already has a 2year visa, i hv been to uk once, SA once, Dubai twice and Ghana twice. my husband has a cousin in US, but he is suggesting we apply without his cousin's involvement. That we should state we are going for a vacation. Now my question is (1)how do we find a holiday package to visit new york
(2) if the VO asked if i have a relation in US, should i say yes or No, since d person is my husband's relation
(3) how can i get a cheap hotel yet nice to book in New York. Thanks for anticipated wise counsel
If you claim to have a relation in the US, there will be questions for you to answer regarding his/her profile. And if you fail in this area, then it's a good bye to your application fees.

So in my opinion, if you dont have a solid information about that person in the US, it's best you pretend he/she never existed.

For your holiday vacation to New York, try :

FrontPageLawyer: LOL.

CO. Good morning
Me. Good morning

CO. What will you be doing in the US?
Me: sightseeing and shopping

CO: Places you want to visit?
Me: metropolitan museum of art in NYC, ellis island, eye to eye view of statue of liberty through helicopter ride.

CO: where do you work?
Me: managing director at XYZ

CO: how long have you been working there?
Me: 7months. ( wanted to explain my past jobs which was stated on the form before i resigned to established my coy that worth millions, but she skipped to the next question)

CO: have you traveled out of Nigeria?
Me: Yes, dubai

CO: Are you married?
Me: Yes with kids.

CO: why are your family not traveling with you?
Me: wife will be busy at work during that period.

CO: Ok, unfortunately i'll reject your application today.....bla bla bla. Handed the white paper to me.
Me. It's not a problem. Thank you.

I vex because, i nor believe my eyes, na so ame-lica visa hard? My first time sha! Maybe CO wanted me to apply with the whole family of four, so em go fit reject our applications, make 104k in 2mins. Help me shout hallelujah still. Going back to work. Will try december.

GOD bless tzetzefly and gbenga77. Learnt a lot here, but e pain me small. I hate rejection
Your interview wasnt so bad, but you made your refusal easy for her (CO). You had it coming from your reply to that first question:

What will you be doing in the US?
Your reply was too simple and illogical sightseeing and shopping are part of a broader holiday package. You cant take a thousand miles travel from home just to shop and sightsee. It should have been self vacation/holiday. Since you were doing it all alone.

Just for next time, it would have been appropriate of you to say, taking this holiday alone from the stress of work as your family is not accompanying you on this trip. This would have given you an offensive approach from the next question by the CO.

The other questions where just formalities asked by her so as not to give you the impression she dislikes your person.

I like your spirit...
PhonesWorld's Slimmest Smartphone, The Ascend P6, From Huawei by tzetzefly(op): 6:40pm On Jun 19, 2013
China's Huawei unveiled its flagship smartphone, the Ascend P6, at its first standalone launch event on Tuesday, underlining its ambitions to compete with Apple and Samsung in the top tier of mobile technology. The company says the device, at 6.18 mm thick, is the world's slimmest.

It has a 5 megapixel front- facing camera, designed for taking "selfies", or pictures of the owner to be shared on social media networks. The company picked the launch date - 6/18 (June 18) - to tie in with the smartphone's dimensions.

The launch, at an arts venue in North London, takes a cue from Apple and Samsung, both of which have made new product announcements at high profile events for a number of years

Previously Huawei unveiled its handsets at industry trade shows like Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Huawei, which also makes telecom networking gear, is looking to drive sales of its consumer devices, a sector in which it has only had its own brand for about three years.

The company was the fourth-largest maker of smartphones in the first quarter of 2013, trailing LG Electronics and the two dominant brands Apple and Samsung, according to analyst firm Gartner.

The top two sold more than 100 million units
between them, while LG sold 10 million and Huawei 9 million, most of which were in its native China. The Ascend P6 uses Huawei's customized version of Google's Android operating system. Industry analyst Ben Wood at CCS Insight said that at the right price the Ascend P6 would attract buyers who had not considered Huawei before. "Huawei P6 is darn thin," he tweeted.

But he added that the device was not, at this stage, compatible with the high speed, next generation 4G networks, which are being rolled out across the world.

Carolina Milanesi at Gartner said she would have liked to see a more original design instead of something that tries to position the brand as an alternative to Apple by going with a similar rounded metal design. Overall it shows that Huawei is working towards their goal of becoming a top brand by 2015, she said.

PoliticsFG Secures N935bn Loan From China, For Building Houses So They Claim... by tzetzefly(op):
The Goodluck administration may have yet taken another step in his 2014 election bid in sourcing for funds from China under the excuse of infrastructural development to the tune of #936billion.

Remember the aftermath of the 2011 election saga: the bombshell of the subsidy removal on 02/01/2012 when we all least expected it. It was obvious this so called subsidy removal was just a hoaux for a more bigger issue i.e. to recover about #60billion naira expended to fund the 2011 elections. The masses were the most affected with this economic brohaha from the economic team led by the iron lady, Okonjo Iweala.

Meanwhile, this is what the government claims they want to do:

The Federal Government said it had
commenced discussion with China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation, SINOSURE, and International Commercial Bank of China, ICBC, to source for a loan of N936 billion, to fund housing development in Nigeria.

Managing Director of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, Mr. Gimba Ya’u Kumo who
disclosed this at an interactive session aimed at creating a synergy between the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, in Abuja said, the loan has a tenure of 15 to 20 years.

Kumo who said the loan which will be provided under a single digit, stressed further that it shall be given directly to Chinese Construction firms on installmental basis of $1.5 billion, who are tobuild the houses under the supervision of FMBN.

He explained further that, FMBN’s responsibility shall be to create mortgages over the housing units, collect mortgage repayments and use the proceeds of the repayments to payback the loan over the tenure of the facility.

Mr. Kumo said, a 1,000 unit staff housing estate at Kagini, FCT, will be a model project for estate development in Nigeria. The estate, to be known as Goodluck Jonathan Legacy Model Housing Estate, according to him, will be funded by a commercial facility but projected to be delivered at affordable price to FMBN staff and general public........

bolanleife: Hello all, I have really found this forum very educative. I intend to have my baby in the U.S. Never been there before. My husband already has a 2 year visa which expired sometimes last month. we intend to apply together very soon. My questions are

1) Would it be a good idea to apply together or individually (because i already have a slight budge)
2) Does my husband previous visa increases my chances of getting the visa or not

Honest responses would be very much appreciated.
I have been to the U.K 3ce.
1. Obtaining an entry visa to give birth in the States, requires proof that you have funds to the tune of at least $140,000. This is regarded as confirmation of your ability to pay for your medical bills in the States in case of complications.

2. You should both apply together. The CO will want to see a certain family bond between you both.

3. Your husband's previous US visa has no impact on this new application. He will still be treated as a potential immigrant by the CO. Your husband needs to prove that he will be returning back to Nigerian at the expiration of his stay in the US.

4. His previous US visa has no positive outcome on your own application. You will also be treated as an immigrant until you prove otherwise.

5. Your past trips to the UK, are good travel experience that may sway the CO in your favour if you can both show you have $140,000 in your account and that your pregnancy is a high risk one requiring urgent medical attention.....

FrontPageLawyer: Final question before my interview on wednesday.

(1) in the ds160 form, Present Employer or School Name? Which is appropriate to be filled, is it self employed or the company's name. " i want the CO to have an idea of the business i'm involve in, which is petroleum marketing, i just feel self employed is not sufficient. THIS QUESTION IS IMPORTANT.

(2) to answer the CO's question. Why are you visiting the US? Which of these is appropriate.

(a) for tourism OR
(b) for tourism to see some historic landmarks in the US. ( PLEASE GUIDE ME IN THIS QUESTION)

(3) during the interview, should i use my right hand to carry the folder, while the left hand is pocketed? This way i' m very comfortable, hope it doesn't look rude?
1. For your employer, the name of your company is what is needed.

2. You should indicate that you're going for tourism and the places you hope to visit while in the States, must be stated. Endeavour to know these places by heart, it is very important.

3. How you hold your folder is irrelevant, what the CO wants to know is that you're sure of what you're saying, and you're not a flight risk.

Dont place your hand in your pocket as if you're auditioning for a Buckingham Palace Parade. Use your hand(s) to gesticulate when necessary, it is also a sign of confidence allowing you to emphasise your points thereby making you feel at ease with yourself....

There is nothing wrong with a virgin passport being presented for visa application, the main onus is convincing the CO an applicant(s) arent potential immigrant(s).

1. Spending a month in the States comes with a higher cost. I hope you're earning fat to shoulder these bills? If not, i advise you to reduce the duration to days.

2. Your bank statements should cover for the two of you if your earnings are good and your savings are reasonable.

3. You will both be interviewed together as a family and you can be issued with visa while she gets refused and surprisingly, vice versa..
Foreign AffairsEgyptian Plane Bound For Newyork, Forced To Land Over Note Threat by tzetzefly(op): 2:07am On Jun 16, 2013
An Egyptair flight from Cairo to New York was
forced to land at Glasgow Prestwick Airport after a message threatening to blow it up was found on board.

Armed police surrounded the Boeing 777 - which was travelling to JFK International Airport with 300 passengers on board - after it touched down at 2.30pm on Saturday. The emergency came after Nada Tawfik, a BBC New York producer and passenger on board, found the note in the plane's toilet, with the words "I'll set this plane on fire", along with a seat number, written on it in English.

Miss Tawfik, who was travelling with her young daughter, said she found the note - written on a napkin with a pencil - inside the sink about three hours into the flight. She immediately reported it to cabin crew who then locked the toilet. Before being allowed off the plane she said: "It's a bit chaotic on the plane. We are still here, as you can imagine, it's a pretty tense situation.

"No security has boarded the plane, people are out of their seats. Everyone's trying to grab what they can to drink, people are concerned, there are babies on board, everyone's very frustrated." The flight was checked by a technical team that includes bomb disposal experts. Passengers were let off to wait inside the airport, where they were being interviewed by police.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that it launched Typhoon fighter jets to escort the plane to the Glasgow airport. One driver reported seeing five police cars, fire engines, and ambulances travelling southbound on the A77, apparently heading for the airport.

Police confirmed a suspicious note was found on the plane and all passengers are to be interviewed. A spokeswoman said: "At around 1420 hours today an Egyptair aircraft flying from Cairo to New York was diverted to Prestwick Airport after a suspicious note was discovered on the aircraft.

"There are no reports of anyone injured and police are currently making arrangements for the 326 passengers to disembark. All passengers will then be interviewed by police."

A Prestwick Airport spokesman said: "The (diverted) plane was on route from Cairo to JFK in New York.

It is safely on the tarmac at Prestwick. "The airport is open for business with flights arriving and taking off.

If you value your credibility as it is and your plan still stands as to travel together with your family at the same time, then i suggest it's best you suspend that visit till next year when you can confidently seek visa for your infant child.

Else you are toying with a red flag to have fraudulently sought favour to enter the States by lying on your application and needless to say that your visa(s), can as well be cancelled if this situation is discovered by the embassy.

So take my advise and plan your visit if it includes your infant, for a later year....

FrontPageLawyer: Gurus in the house, my interview comes up next week. Having studied why many are refused visas base on traveling experiences. I have decided to add my south africa traveling history to my application, though the passport is missing, but i have a clear copy of the air ticked "south african airways" and the date 2006 is in print not hand written.

1. Can this be acceptable? I have also traveled to dubai which i added to my application, i have that on my recent passport.

2. If i make any changes at this time, hope it doesn't affect my application negatively.

Please advice.
Boarding Passes are not proof of an entry into any country, just a confirmation you saw the inside of a plane. The only acceptable evidence before any VO' is an immigration stamp authorising entry into a foreign country. This you currently dont possess as a result of missing passport.

Do not attempt to shoot yourself in both legs..grin

Asorock 1: Please house advice is needed on how to go about the Shengen visa ....thanks and God bless
It's quite unfortunate you were denied entry visa @ this time, i feared it was going to be the case based on my earlier information to you.

However, take heed of the CO's advise. He has actually given you a hint on how to secure that visa next application. Hardly will you get such information from every VO. His assessment on you is favourable.

I would state that you apply next year, same documents, same format except if your circumstance changes.

Meanwhile, Shengen visa assessment is same as that of the US, being that you need a travel experience as well. Take a trip to Dubai and Ghana together. It will change your present travel experience a bit...

lakayanababy: Thanks for your answer, Tzetzefly.

I am actually planning to attend a conference, and will add a few extra days to do some shopping, or is that frowned upon?

I will put engaged, but this means i have to show pictures, right?

Isn't a job promotion and increase in salary a change in circumstances? I work in one of the media relations firms. Not known like big companies though.
1. Shopping during or after your conference while in the States, does not have a negative implication on your visit. The problem is attempting to make use of the conference issued visa for visiting or tourism or an intention other than its intended purpose.

2. No need for pictures. You are not married yet.

3. It's a media firm, your job looks ok. A job promotion, salary increase, marriage, travel history etc are few examples of an individual's change in circumstance.

4. Your outing during the interview will help you overcome the hurdle. Turnout confident, bold and smart. Engage in eye contact with your interviewer it shows you know what you're saying and not being dishonest.

1. Can conference visas be subsequently used for regular visits/shopping trips? assuming one gets 2 years?

2. I am applying on a virgin passport (no travel history), but with a previous us refusal on an attempt to visit a relative some 5 months ago.

3. For marital status, can i choose 'other' and type in 'have a serious boyfriend or engaged'?

4. I know paid conferences are better, but can hotel accommodations just be reserved? just incase.... grin

I am looking to apply in a few months as my circumstances have changed since the last time I first applied - I have been promoted at my place of work and receive a higher salary now. I also got a car which I would term property cheesy

What are my chances?

Thank you in advance.
Conference, Visit or whatever category of visa at that is not always as difficult as it is made to look, as long as you have the requirements.

1. You cannot make use of a conference visa for visiting. You will be refused entry by the CBP officer at the US entry port.

2. Being a virgin passport will only work against you if you do not have a stable job in an agency or organisation with a solid reputation in Nigeria. Your previous denial may have no bearing on this new application as your circumstance may have changed in 5 months.

3. Type engaged. And i hope you both are ready to knot it wink

4. Yes, a reserved accomodation is good. But note that an unpaid accomodation works mostly for people with previous travel experience.

5.Since I'm studying in Ghana, how will i show strong ties to my country Nigeria? But i always come home every holiday and i don't want to apply in Ghana.

6. I dont have family in US

waiting for your answers from Number 1 to 6. smiley
1. If related to your field, then you're good to go.

2. Ok. Your parents' statement of account will do just fine.

3. What was your reason for going to Turkey. Was it vacation or similar conference? If it is the latter, then it further increases your chance of securing the visa.

4. It is not too early for the US embassy. Infact travellers are encouraged to make their applications early enough before their travel dates. Except for F1 visa category.

5. If you apply from Ghana, it makes your case for a related conference to your studies solid. And a consent letter from your parents will be required by the CO.

But if you choose to apply from Nigeria, the CO will require a tie back home. Which in your case, is going to be difficult to prove as your place of residence is Ghana, invariably your tie.

6. Excellent, it removes any suspicion of an intending immigrant.

The category of visa you should be applying for is B1 and not B2 since you are going for a conference. For the avoidance of doubt, these are itemised for your perusal :

1. Tourism and Visit Visa (B-2) :

* Tourism

* Vacation (holiday) visit with friends or relatives

* Medical treatment

* Participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations

* Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating

* Enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two- day cooking class while on vacation).
