Kay17: The main issue is meaningless suffering, is it justifiable? I say no, regardless of the remote possibility that God created humans. another christian teaching is that suffering has meaning, there is always a purpose. "by his suffering shall my servant justify many", it was a prophesy about Jesus, then paul continues by talking about our participation in the suffering, human suffering is a punishment for sin, but it goes futher than that. I don't know how to explain it even to a christian talkless of an atheist. But suffering is never meaningless and is certainly isn't worth life. |

A bit text-book-like for me. I was hoping to get a view peculiar to you but I forgot the peculiarity of your thoughts are greatly skewed to what we can find in any good Catholic literature.
In any case, I would have been elated if the Church were to permit the use of contraceptives. hehehe, i don't think the singularity of my thought process is affected by the fact that i can accept the beauty of catholic thoughts. I can pattern my thoughts on logic or even "illogic" that i accept or find acceptable. For the most parts i find the logic of most authoritative catholic documents acceptable, i can pattern my thoughts on them. I am also aware you have a biggy with contraception, i wanted to bust your bubble a liitle bit. I find humane vitae acceptable. |

striktlymi: Okay, I guess the question is a bit too hot to handle hence your evasiveness. the question isn't hot, just doesn't concern me. I'll always love a big family, all things been equal i'll advise people to have big families, but there is always a consideration of the reality on ground and grave reasons which makes such ideas unreachable, this is where the couples come in and this is where pope st John paul 2 talks about "responsible parenthood". These considerations are principally for the couples, nobody without good reason should pontificate in this issue. What about the use of contraceptives? If it is possible, would you support a move by the present Pope to sanction its use? no sir i won't support such a move as it would be a contradiction of the principles espoused in christian tradition on marriage and that of the previous magisterium. Infact if i were an adviser to such a pope, i would advise he considers using the option to resign. |

striktlymi: It does seem selfish to settle for one or two kids when one can afford to take care of at least three but experience has shown that it is relatively easier to cater for the needs of a small family than a large one.
The needs of children go beyond our material existence but the material is very important because sometimes it affects the spiritual if it is not properly managed.
I have this friend who earns a bit over 140k. Ordinarily this should be enough to have a nice family of four (to include two children) if he had thought about planning ahead for his family before he even got married.
A proper plan should include opening an account for his children and setting aside an amount every month for them while he is still a bachelor.
This buffer savings would have effectively sought out some material needs of the children when they start coming hence enabling him to focus more on their mental and spiritual development.
This he did not do, like very many Nigerians. Despite the lack of proper planning, he went ahead to have 3 children. The cost of school fees alone for one child is enough to make any low income eaner think himself to death.
In such situation, I guess your opinion may be that the dude stop at 3 and device a strategy to meet the needs of the children.
In a case where the individual can watch out for the material needs of more than two children but decides to stick to two in order to cater, adequately for their mental and spiritual upbringing; would you consider this selfish and wrong? i would consider it "responsible parenthood". I can't sit as judge on another mans conscience, all i can do is inform him about a few principle that shouls inform it and help him with his decision. The decision on how many kids to have and how many one can cater for still lies with the couple and the cost of taking care of kids is pretty high in an urban enviroment. |

Kay17: 1. I don't understand you, are you saying because the Big Ban.g is a natural event it can not be a sustainable theory? have you read up on the big bang? 2. But both the Bible and Science indulge in cosmology. The fact the bible says God did it and Science has an alternate answer proves a conflict between the Bible and Science. that is the point on what pope francis said, he doesn't see any conflict. 3. That's your extraneous interpretation. this is your opinion. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Today is all souls - What Does The Bible Say About Praying For The Dead? by Ubenedictus(m): 5:45pm On Nov 03, 2014 |
JusConcept: It is not only unbiblical to attempt to negate this, but it is illogical for a Christian to conclude that man should pray for those who have died, yet in their sins. For if they have any stain of sin yet to be purged at death, then after death is no opportunity to change the judgment thereof.
Hebrews 9:26-27
"For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" All of our sins, bar none, were put away "once" by the sacrifice of Christ. Anyone who needs purging from sin after death, has obviously never had his sin atoned for by Christ in life, and is thus still dead in trespass and sin. And after death is the judgment, not the opportunity for atonement. you didn't even attemp to answer my question. Are you scared? |

Christianity Etc › Re: Goshen, What Is The "Babylon System Of The World"? by Ubenedictus(op): 5:34pm On Nov 03, 2014 |
Goshen360: Babylon, just like Egypt was the return of God's people after the land of Israel but also, there's also a return to Christ. That is, from Babylon unto Christ (Mat 1:17). Today, what we see is the church returning against back to Babylon, 1 Peter 5:13 (a system of the world) and the church wants to use this system of the world to run the church of Jesus.
Babylon was described greatly in Rev 17:1-5 BUT you have to read the whole of Revelation chapter 17 & 18 to get the full picture. Babylon is a system of the world that was typified in Rome where Idolatry exist and har.lotry is the system going on then and now. Har.lotry, that is yielding one's self to defilement through the system of the world for the sake of gain. Typically, that is what har.lots and prostitu.tes does. It is a system whereby the church, that is married to Christ (Romans 7:4) gone prosti.tuting and forni.cating with the world system and doing things (abominable things as describe in Revelation) contrary to the Christ, the Bride.
By the church doing these acts, they sell themselves for gain to the system of this world. They've gone roman.cing the world and her system and therefore defiled with the Babylon system which in the long run ends in confusion. Babylon will always end in confusion, which is one of the meaning of Babylon and her system. So, when you see a church adopting the system of the world and had departed (that is, gone har.lotry, roman.cing and forni.cating) with the world, such is nothing but har.lot church.
Take a critical look at today's church (esp. RCCG as this thread applies) and you will see how many uses the pattern of the world's system to operate the church - you will see the church turning herself into family business. The founder dies and hand over to son or wife\husband. They set up HQ and open branches and tell all branches to remit all revenues to MOTHER CHURCH, which in Revelation 17:5 is typified as the MOTHER HAR.LOTS. They operate control of all resources and manpower. They roman.ce themselves with thieves and politicians diluting the truth of Christ, they allowed themselves to be call the "anointed one" which is false Christ, to mention but few etc. Non of these practices are Apostolic doctrines!!!
Anyway, I don dey enter the realm of typing too much. But, when we say this truth, I heard some people say I'm too proud, I do over-sabi etc. Well, we're not ready to sell ourselves to these folks. We'll continue to speak the truth in boldness and according the measure of Grace given to us. Make I stop here my brother. Sure you get the picture. hmmm.... This is an interesting one. |
