In my very proud opinion that cardinal is silly, a bloody racist and a disgrace to the Church.
he told the media he had the backing of the pope to spew his teaching...and to think that he was papabile after the death of johnpaul 2, i'm happy that there is an age limit for cardinals.

It's interesting how you make it look like that was always Peter's position. Meanwhile, What is the topic of the synod holding next year?
it wasn't always peter's position, anyone who read the book of act will see that he had a change in belief, by the time of the council he was ready to bear witness to the universality of the new covenant.

The ordinary synod will still be on the family, i think they touched the title a little, but some of the topics discussed in this past synod will be rediscussed in the next one.

What do you call his use of parables?
most times his parables were to encourage clarity, he taught high stuff about the kingdom using images that were common to the people. Infact, he used parables so that he could be understood clearly by all who had goodwill.

What about his teaching that suggests a soft permission for divorce: 'in the case of fornication'?
that is your interpretation of that passage. I do not see it as even a permission for divorce.

A lot of examples abound that demonstrates the ambiguity of a number of teachings from Christ.

The Church is just following in the Master's footsteps.

I am of the opinion that the definitions the Church put forth with respect to her teachings are clear enough.
yeah, yeah, yeah, the churches position with respect to doctrines are most times clear enough. The mid term report of the synod certainly wasn't clear.

Hmm...danger, If Peter assumed this Position, he would have made a mistake in Acts 15. He rather allowed the Holy Spirit talk through the synod, and submitted to her position.
actually peter assumed exactly that position. After the judaizer started the arguement and paul gave his testimony, the scriptures record, and peter stood up and everyone was quite, he then calmly put down his teachings basing on the Old testament and his personal experience. He made his position known and the debate in the synod came to an end as James wrapped everything up. Here we have a synod where they say peter refused to speak.

Peter didn't just accept the position of the synod, he allowed the holyspirit to use him in teach all present. Imagine what will it look like if as the arguement raged on peter simply sat and played referee who had no position in the matter.

Yet your and God's expression of love towards the sinner would be inhibited by the supposed sins. Look at the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, the people were punished by fire, and that's hardly an expression of affection rather a typical expression of hatred. My own contention is that it is difficult to contain two contrasting emotions for a person and his actions separately.
and lastly i think it is possible and even a frequent thing that people bear different emotions for the action and the person. My mum is a prime example, when i was younger a wasn't the best kid and sincerly speaking, i'm sure my mum hated most of the stuff i pulled back then...that didn't stop her from loving me with every thing she could muster.

Her approach ensured i was never enstranged from her, i knew that when i got the rod it wasn't because she hated my guts.

i'll probably say i get the point you are making.

The problem with sodom and gomora wasn't because of some individual sin, but because the sins have become a culture, it was a civilisation that found itself happy in wrong doing. From the biblical narrative what happen there was hardly a case a hate, maybe punishment, but not hate. They had accumulated their sins and there weren't 10 good people in the cities. It was years and years of wrong doing, God had given then ample time for repentance, at a stage justice has to be served.

The bible doesn't teach a goody goody love, love isn't the absence of punishment, it is the superabundant balance for justice. Sin has its punishments even though God would prefer the repentance of a sinner and give him ample time for that.

And since it is a journey of human beings, with the consolations there were also moments of desolation, of tensions and temptations, of which a few possibilities could be mentioned:

- One, a temptation to hostile inflexibility, that is, wanting to close oneself within the written word, (the letter) and not allowing oneself to be surprised by God, by the God of surprises, (the spirit); within the law, within the certitude of what we know and not of what we still need to learn and to achieve. From the time of Christ, it is the temptation of the zealous, of the scrupulous, of the solicitous and of the so-called – today – “traditionalists” and also of the intellectuals.

-The temptation to a destructive tendency to goodness [it. buonismo], that in the name of a deceptive mercy binds the wounds without first curing them and treating them; that treats the symptoms and not the causes and the roots. It is the temptation of the “do-gooders,” of the fearful, and also of the so-called “progressives and liberals.”

- The temptation to transform stones into bread to break the long, heavy, and painful fast (cf. Lk 4:1-4); and also to transform the bread into a stone and cast it against the sinners, the weak, and the sick (cf Jn 8:7), that is, to transform it into unbearable burdens (Lk 11:46).

- The temptation to come down off the Cross, to please the people, and not stay there, in order to fulfil the will of the Father; to bow down to a worldly spirit instead of purifying it and bending it to the Spirit of God.

- The temptation to neglect the “depositum fidei” [the deposit of faith], not thinking of themselves as guardians but as owners or masters [of it]; or, on the other hand, the temptation to neglect reality, making use of meticulous language and a language of smoothing to say so many things and to say nothing! They call them “byzantinisms,” I think, these things…

I am not necessarily inclined toward sedesvacantism, actually i reject the ideology, but i'm gradually learning that there is a gem of truth in most lie, crude oil is black and totally useless in itself. The most stupid stuff people believe are usually important to them and most times it is important you look at things from their skewed glassed so you can show them why you are sure your own glass is clearer.

Sedes Vacantist! They are a confused bunch, flip flopping their way through, yet pride will not allow them retrace their steps. They get their beliefs from a site called Most holy family Monastery, which some of them think is an actual monastery. The owners use half truths, unverified claims, fear, sensationalism and all sorts of cut and join to hypnotize their followers. Little by Little you see conspiracy in everything including what your own family members do or say, but they start with the church hierarchy. Pay no heed to them bro, that's nothing compared to what the church has stood against in history. Salc has said much in advise.
i think you are hurriedly dismissing them. Sedesvacantist are a tough nut, they are usually wrong in their conclusions but they are not necessarily all wrong.

Most times they raise important issue that should make a catholic think, vatican 2 is always an interesting topic to discuss, the council that shaped the catholic church today is very very much more controversial than the just concluded synod that everyone is still talking about.

They have half truths, lies sensation stories and all that, but, in every lie there is a germ of truth, the sedesvacantist just have a skewed perspective.

2ndly What Is The Diff B/w Libral And Conservative Catholic?
hehehe...

These a adjective people use to classify themselves.

A liberal catholic is usually the guy who says the church should readjust its teaching to the present world.

A conservative catholic will say the world should adapt itself to the Christian monopoly, i.e the world is to accept the church's unchanging truth...

I'll give you an example,

if you see a catholic who is pro choice (support abortion), believes that women should be ordained priests, thinks church doctrines are achaic, or contraception is ok....the list of new age stuff goes on... That person will mostly identify him/herself as liberal.

If you meet a catholic who won't shift even a little in doctrine or morals and is most likely to interprete things in the absolute sense, then he may likely identify himself as a conservative catholic.

Syncan:
“I can happily say that, with a spirit of collegiality and of synodality, we have truly lived the experience of synod, a path of solidarity, a journey together,” the Holy Father said in his closing address to participants Saturday. He added that there were moments of “profound consolation” when listening to the testimony of “true pastors, who wisely carry in their hearts the joys and the tears of their faithful people.”

He also spoke of “moments of consolation and grace and comfort,” when hearing the testimonies of the families who shared the “beauty and the joy” of their married life. He said the synod was a journey where the “stronger feel compelled to help the less strong” and where the “more experienced are led to serve others, even through confrontations.”

The Pope highlighted “moments of desolation, of tensions and temptations” and listed these temptations as the “hostile inflexibility” of “so-called traditionalists” and intellectuals; of a “destructive tendency to goodness” of “so-called progressives and liberals”; of transforming “stones into bread” to avoid the ascetical struggle and of “bread into stone” to cast at sinners; of coming down from the cross to “please the people” and “bow[ing] down to a worldly spirit instead of purifying it and bending it to the Spirit of God”; and the temptation to “neglect the depositum fidei [the deposit of faith]” and to “neglect reality.”

He warned that the synodal process should “never be seen as a source of confusion and discord” because the Church expresses herself in communion “in the variety of her charisms” and “cannot err.” He reminded the synod participants that he had said, from the beginning, that the synod would take place in “tranquility and with interior peace,” — cum Petro and sub Petro (with Peter and under Peter) — “and the presence of the Pope is the guarantee of it all.” He also reminded those present that his duty is “guaranteeing the unity of the Church” and that the “first duty” of any pastor is to nourish his flock and seek the lost sheep.

VIVA PAPA.

Read the Pope's speech here: http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/10/18/pope_francis_speech_at_the_conclusion_of_the_synod/1108944

We continue to pray, the church marches on.
interesting choice of words, the pope took the neutral position. I read it a few days ago, He is a great referee, i didn't know one can say so many quotable and fine words without actually saying something that takes a stand.

Usually the sections not agreed in the synod are scrapped and new stuff are written and voted upon, i found it interesting that the pope decided to keep the paragraphs that weren't agreed upon in the final document and just published the result of the voting.

Everybody seems unhappy with card lorenzo, they seem think the tried to manipulate the synod.

Anyway till next year.
Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by Ubenedictus(m): 10:57pm On Oct 22, 2014
Extraordinary Synod has ended, pope paul vi has been beatified. Card. Kasper has apologised to the african bishops for implying they shouldn't be listened to. Card burke may soon be removed from the supreme tribunal and the apostolic signatura. More cardinals and bishops are still blasting the concluded synod.

The final document reaffrimed church teaching on most subjects, topics like divorce and remarriage and maybe homosexuality may still be discussed in the ordinary synod next year. It seem the arguement will continue till the middle of next year.

Pope francis acted as a refree thru out the conference, maybe he will get some rest before he begins travelling again.

Pray for the pope, pray for the church.

Bl paul vi, pray for us.
